Worst in the World: The House of Horrors Match-Payback 2017

(NOTE: Before this post starts, I wanted to give a heads up. Throughout this review, there are GIFs that contain bright, flashing lights on repeat. If you suffer from p hotosensitive epilepsy, it might be best to skip this post) Over a year ago, I covered Randy Orton and Bray Wyatt's WWE Championship match at WrestleMania 33 , the Wrestling Observer Newsletter's "winner" of the Worst Match of the Year award. While the match was nothing above subpar, especially for a world title match at WrestleMania, and featured... whatever that was, I mentioned in my post that I didn't think that it was actually the worst match of the year. In fact, I gave not one, but four matches as examples of matches I thought were worse than it in 2017. So, allow me to put my money where my mouth is and cover those four matches over the next two months. And what better place to start than with the follow up to Orton & Wyatt's WrestleMania stinker. After Orton's victory, Wyatt wo

Worst in the World: Roddy Piper vs Hollywood Hogan-Halloween Havoc 1997

(Special thanks to Otter Empire for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) Just when I said a month and a half ago that there have only been two pairings that have multiple matches in this series, we've got another one. Roddy Piper vs Hollywood Hogan from Halloween Havoc 1997 in a Steel Cage match. Last seen in the series stinking up the joint at SuperBrawl that same year , Hogan & Piper had a legendary rivalry in the mid-80s in the WWF. The only problem for 1997 was that it wasn't the mid-80s anymore, and both were far past their primes, which is extra alarming considering neither of them were known for their expert in-ring abilities, even in their primes. This match is the third in a lackluster trilogy the two had for nearly a year, with Piper winning the first non-title match (which made no sense because Piper was the one who had the contract written up in storyline) at Starrcade 1996 and Ho

Worst in the World: Shane McMahon vs Eric Bischoff-SummerSlam 2003

(Special thanks to Otter Empire for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) SummerSlam 2003 is a mixed bag of a show. Kurt Angle vs Brock Lesnar. That's good. Triple H going over Goldberg in the main event even though he had a groin tear. That's bad. A fatal 4-way involving Eddie Guerrero, Chris Benoit, Tajiri, and Rhyno. That's good. La Résistance...existing. That's bad. And Shane McMahon vs Eric Bischoff...that''s also bad. Thrust in the middle of Shane's feud with Kane, we were all subjected to this match-up between El Hijo de Mr. McMahon himself and the Co-Raw General Manager in Bischoff at the 16th edition of SummerSlam. Bischoff would never be confused for a serious in-ring competitor, usually only wrestling for storyline purposes, while Shane, who has had some legitimately good matches in his career, really needs the right opponent to have a watchable match. And Eric Bisch

Worst in the World: Hollywood Hogan & Dennis Rodman vs Diamond Dallas Page & Karl Malone-Bash at the Beach 1998

Special thanks to Otter Empire for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below. Professional wrestling and basketball. Two of my favorite things in the world. As evident by the fact that I run a wrestling blog, my love for it is no secret, but basketball is another thing I love. So much so that I have another blog for it . So, putting wrestling and basketball together seems like something right up my alley, right? Well...not when it's this match. Hulk Hogan & Dennis Rodman vs Diamond Dallas Page & Karl Malone from Bash at the Beach 1998. Now, casual wrestling fans would more than likely know why Hogan and Page would square off, as the two were key figures in the nWo vs WCW feud...but where do Dennis Rodman and Karl Malone fit into this? Well, time to delve into a little basketball history. Dennis Rodman was already a two-time NBA Champion by the time he was traded to the Chicago Bulls in 1996, where h
