On July 3, 2022, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla held their Nineteen event. Among the six-match card was a match pitting Masha Slamovich against Yuka Sakazaki. At first glance, this doesn't seem too out of place on an independent show, as Slamovich is one of the most popular women in the scene right now, and Sakazaki's work in Japan makes her an excellent fit for the company. For PWG, however, this match was highly significant, as it was the first straight-up women's match to take place in the company in over 12 years. The mid to late 1980s were not kind to the American Wrestling Association.
