Worst in the World: The Kennel From Hell Match-Unforgiven 1999

Photo credit: thesportster.com I'm just going to be completely honest: the Attitude Era is by far the most overrated period in wrestling history. I'm not saying the Attitude Era was bad, it was amazing, and the hottest wrestling ever was. What I'm saying is is that people tend to look at it with rose-tinted glasses. Guys like Stone Cold, The Rock, and Mick Foley are easily some of the biggest stars in wrestling history, but things like Hawk's addiction issues being used in storyline, the Pretty Mean Sisters (P.M.S), and Mae Young giving birth to a hand are generally left out of the conversation about the Attitude Era and ignored like they never happened. It seems like people just try to ignore any bad thing that happened during that time, which is a huge contrast to today's wrestling where if something is bad, they'll never forget it. You can't just ignore the bad parts of an era and act like it was perfect. There is one match from the Attitude Era, how

Worst in the World: The Royal Family vs Clowns R' Us-Survivor Series 1994

Photo credit: thedailyspotlight.com I hate clowns. Almost as much as I hate pointless, filler, traditional Survivor Series matches. So basically, this is my nightmare match. This is an 8-man elimination tag match, where six of the eight participants are dwarfs, and only the dwarfs can fight the dwarfs, and the normal sized people fight each other. Because all wrestling is better with little people! The match pits Doink the Clown, and his Mini Doinks Dink, Pink, and Wink, known as Clowns R' Us, facing Jerry Lawler and his "Mini Lawlers" Cheesy, Queasy, and Sleazy, known as The Royal Family. Before I start, I just want to talk about wrestlers who are simply extensions of better wrestlers. Unless their name is Kane, they never work out...ever. Seriously, think of all the characters that have been introduced just to further a pre-existing character that have failed that isn't Kane. Zeus, Giant Gonzales, Isacc Yankem, Dave Sullivan, The Knights the list goes on a

Shinsuke Nakamura's NXT Debut Date & Opponent Revealed (SPOILERS)

Photo Credit: WWE.com Like it says in the title: This post contains spoilers for the January 27th tapings of NXT Former New Japan Pro Wrestling star Shinsuke Nakamura is officially coming to NXT! The rumor was confirmed by WWE on WWE.com that the former IWGP Heavyweight and Intercontinental Champion has signed with the company and will debut in NXT. While it's a bit disappointing that he won't be going straight to the main roster like AJ Styles and like how the rumors went, it will still be exciting to see the King of Strong Style go up against the likes of Finn Balor, Samoa Joe, and the newly signed Austin Aries. In fact, Nakamura's debut date and opponent have already been revealed. (Once again...) At Wednesday's NXT tapings, a video announced that Nakamura would be making his NXT debut at NXT Takeover: Dallas, and he will be facing NXT fan favorite Sami Zayn. This should be without a doubt an amazing match and a possible Match of the Year candidate. Ho

Worst in the World: Ultimate Warrior vs Hercules-WrestleMania IV

I hate these kinds of matches. Not because they're outrageously bad, but because they're pretty much...nothing. Which is worse because when the match gives me nothing, I can't write anything about it. At least when a match is bad and full of frying pans, blindfolds falling off, and Brie Mode, I can usually write a paragraph or two just about those parts. This sucks. Ultimate Warrior vs Hercules is like Konnan vs One Man Gang from SuperBrawl VI. It's not bad enough to actually be on this list, but it's on there, so I might as well get through this. Before I start, I just want to point out that Hercules is by far one of the most pale people in history, and this is coming from one of the most pale people in history. Rumor has it that Hercules didn't actually die, but he dyed his hair orange and changed his name to Sheamus. I'm not saying that's true, but I've never seen Hercules and Sheamus in the same place. Just saying. Man, first Summer Rae'

My Thoughts on the Royal Rumble Match

Photo credit: @WWEUniverse on Twitter Well, another Royal Rumble has passed, and it didn't end with the crowd booing the winner into oblivion! Yes! Chalk one up for WWE Creative. Anyway, this was definitely the best Royal Rumble in years (judging by the last few Royal Rumbles, that sounds like a backhanded compliment, but it's not) and we got a new champion in Triple H. Here's what I thought about the match. Reigns getting mostly booed right from the start is just further proof that he isn't what the fans want. Rusev getting tossed out immediately bummed me out. AJ Styles' debut made me freak out to the point that my brother had to question why I was freaking out for this guy he's never heard of. Tyler Breeze being eliminated quickly is just depressing. Curtis Axel getting tossed out and not re-entering, claiming this makes up for last year is without a doubt the biggest missed opportunity of 2016. Side-note: where were the other Social Outcasts? How

Worst in the World: Hollywood Hogan vs The Giant-Hog Wild

Remember that WCW pay-per-view I talked about where they couldn't pull in any money at the gate. Well, this is it. Hog Wild (later Road Wild) was a 1996 pay-per-view that WCW held at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Because there is no admission at the rally, nobody pays to watch the wrestling. This means that WCW held a pay-per-view not once, but four times, and earned zero from the gate. That's just a gigantic waste of money. It's like a real life version of Brewster's Millions, with Eric Bischoff as Richard Pryor. The only difference is that instead of getting 300 million dollars for spending a bunch of money, he gets to do nothing with Bret Hart. This was one month after Hulk Hogan joined the NWO, and wrestling is about to enter its hottest period in history. How does WCW decide to kick off this new angle? With The Giant...dammit. Yep, even in 1996, Big Show ruined everything he touched. He defends his WCW World Heavyweight Championship against Hollywood Hogan in t

Austin Aries Showed Up in NXT (SPOILERS)

Photo credit: WWE.com The commentators always say "Anyone can show up in NXT", and that statement continues to be ever more true. Former TNA World Heavyweight Champion & Ring of Honor World Champion Austin Aries showed up at Friday's NXT tapings. This has been rumored for months now, but has now come to fruition. Along with his World Championship reigns in both TNA & Ring of Honor, Aries is a six-time X Division Champion, one time TNA World Tag Team Champion with Bobby Roode, and a one time ROH Tag Team Champion with Roderick Strong. This makes Aries the second for TNA World Heavyweight Champion to show up in NXT in the last year, the other being Samoa Joe. Now I'm going to talk about what happened at his debut, but before I do... You've been warned  Aries was introduced by General Manager William Regal. He walked out as the titantron read Austin Aries, with the same logo on his t-shirt, so he likely got the Samoa Joe-deal where he gets to kee

Worst in the World: James Storm vs Chris Harris-Lockdown 2007

It's finally time to tackle some TNA! And man oh man, this one is a big one. One thing TNA has become infamous for is taking wrestling stipulations, and trying to add some other gimmicks to it to make it better, only making it worse. "Like Money in the Bank matches? How about we multiply it by four, and have a match with FOUR briefcases!" "Like WarGames? How about we put a bunch of weapons in the cage!" And in today's case, "do you like steel cage matches? Well, what if we took two sworn enemies, put them in a cage...AND BLINDFOLD THEM! Wait, where are you going?" Ladies and gentleman: the Blindfold Steel Cage match. Straight out of the insane mind of Vince Russo, this match pits former America's Most Wanted tag team partners James Storm and Chris "LOL, remember Braden Walker?" Harris. Harris had come back two months prior at Against All Odds after Storm had partially blinded him with a beer bottle. If this sounds similar to the

2016 Royal Rumble Predictions

Well, another year, another Rumble. Since the last two years have disasters for WWE, it will be interesting to see what direction the company goes, especially with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship on the line in the Royal Rumble match. With six matches confirmed, here are my predictions for the 2016 Royal Rumble. Pre-Show Darren Young & Damien Sandow vs The Dudley Boyz vs The Ascension vs Mark Henry & Jack Swagger-Winners get to be in the Royal Rumble Winners: Henry & Swagger Ummm...what is this match? Since when are Mark Henry & Jack Swagger a tag team? Why wouldn't Darren Young be teaming with Titus O'Neil? And why is he teaming with Damien Sandow? Wasn't Mark Henry already announced for the Royal Rumble? I'm sorry, but this match makes zero sense. It's tough to pick, mainly because none of these eight have a chance of winning the Royal Rumble, so it doesn't really matter. If I had to pick, I'd pick Henry & Swagger, ju

Worst in the World: Total Divas vs The Other Divas-Survivor Series 2013

What happens when you put 14 Divas in a ring and only about four or five of them are any good? Trash. You get trash. That's what this match is. This is a 7-on-7 Survivor Series tag match between the cast of Total Divas (The Bella Twins, Natalya, Eva Marie, The Funkadactyls, and JoJo) against the other Divas (AJ Lee, Tamina Snuka , Rosa Mendes, Kaitlyn, Summer Rae, Alicia Fox, and (My girl!) Aksana). Technically they're called the "True Divas" but let's be honest, they're just the other Divas. Also, oddly enough, this match is listed as "Team Eva Marie vs Team AJ Lee" on the WWE Network. That's weird. So the match starts with Naomi and Alicia Fox. They do some awkward moves that look like botches, but I can't really tell. They go up to the top rope (oh God) and Fox gets knocked off. Naomi gets down...goes right back up, and Fox gets eliminated after a split-leg moonsault. It hasn't even been two minutes and there's already been a

Is AJ Styles Going to be in the Royal Rumble?

Royal Rumble bound? Maybe. Ever since the reports earlier this month about several New Japan Pro Wrestling stars signing with WWE, the company has given very vague, inconclusive comments about the situation. They've written articles and done interviews with Finn Balor and Matt Bloom , but nothing has actually been confirmed either. The rumors of Shinsuke Nakamura (who vacated the IWGP Intercontinental Championship) reporting to the Performance Center in Florida and reports of Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson going to NXT have also surfaced, but nothing yet as been confirmed. Nakamura, Gallows, and Anderson have been quiet since the rumors came out. AJ Styles, on the other hand, has only been fueling the fire on the rumors of his debut, by giving off a few contradictory statements. One of these statements came during an interview with WhatCulture's Adam Blampied and Kenny McIntosh. During the interview, McIntosh asks Styles that if WhatCulture were to have an event on Ja

Worst in the World: Greg Valentine vs George Steele-Heroes of Wrestling

I take back every bad word I've said about WCW, because I don't think they've ever put on a show as bad as Heroes of Wrestling. I'm not even joking, this might be the worst pay-per-view of all time. It's so bad, that four of the matches on the card are on the 100 Worst Rated matches on the Internet Wrestling Database . That's half the card! The only bright side of this is that after this, there are only three left to review. First, let me just explain what Heroes of Wrestling was (according to Wikipedia). Bill Stone, the president of Fosstone Productions, had an idea to have a series of wrestling shows featuring some of the biggest stars of the 80s and early 90s. A show featuring the likes of 2 Cold Scorpio, Jake Roberts, and The Iron Sheik; sounds like a great show in say, 1993. The problem, this event was in 1999. By this point, all the stars were passed their prime and some could barely work. Every single match on the card was panned by critics and fans,

Worst in the World: The Doomsday Cage Match-Uncensored 1996

Quick Note: Just to let you know, this entry is going to have a lot more visuals than my other ones so far. The match is so hard to talk about, it's just easier to show you it.   I have no words. Only rants. What in the hell was this match? It is the most confusing, nonsensical, laughably bad attempts at a new match type. And I don't mean like the Chamber of Horrors where there was wacky stuff happening the entire time and nothing made any sense. This is just a slow, plodding match with zero stability whatsoever. This isn't thinking outside the box, this is taking the box and completely throwing it out the window First complaint, what is with Michael Buffer's outrageously long introductions? Did WCW pay him by the word? I get it for guys like Hogan and Flair, but he gives a long detailed introduction to Meng. What the hell is a Meng? Whatever. This match pits Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage against "The Alliance to End Hulkamania", which is easily the wors

Worst in the World: Konnan vs One Man Gang-SuperBrawl VI

Sometimes I wonder if Dave Meltzer is a little harsh when reviewing wrestling. For example, this match, Konnan vs One Man Gang from SuperBrawl VI, got minus two stars from Meltzer. To put that in perspective, Jeff Hardy vs Sting from Victory Road (the match where Hardy showed up completely out of it) was only a minus one star. This match is by no means negative stars. It's not good by any means, but it is by no means one of the worst matches ever.  Basically, this is a pretty just your average bad wrestling match. One Man Gang is way too out of shape to be in a ring at this point, and his in ring work shows it. Almost all of his offense is punches and slow plodding around the ring while Konnan tries his hardest to get this guy to a good match. Another big problem with the match is how there is almost nothing exciting in the match. Aside from Konnan's pretty nice crossbody to One Man Gang that took them to the outside through the second rope and a superplex off the top ro
