My Thoughts on RAW (7/24/17): Top Nerds

  • Kurt Angle comes out to kick off the show. He announces that Jason Jordan will have his first match on RAW tonight before turning his attention to the Universal Championship situation. He says Braun Strowman ruined the #1 contenders match between Roman Reigns & Samoa Joe last week and before he announces who Brock Lesnar will face at SummerSlam, Strowman comes out. He says he better be the one to face Lesnar or else and says unlike Reigns & Joe, he actually won at Great Balls of Fire and says that he doesn't fear Brock Lesnar, Brock Lesnar fears him. Samoa Joe's out next and says that Strowman is lucky they haven't crossed paths since he came to RAW and says he's the one who doesn't fear Brock Lesnar, and he definitely doesn't fear Braun Strowman. He says all Strowman did was save Reigns from taking another loss to him and says Angle needs to give Lesnar to him. Roman Reigns comes out and says Joe & Strowman haven't done anything in WWE before listing off his accomplishments. Angle finally announces that at SummerSlam, Lesnar will defend the Universal Championship against Samoa Joe...and Roman Reigns...and Braun Strowman in a Fatal 4-Way. Angle starts to leave, but Joe interjects and says he should be facing Lesnar one on one. Strowman says he doesn't care how many people are in the match, he just cares about piling bodies. Reigns tells Strowman to shut up before punching him. All three men fight before Reigns & Joe toss Strowman over the barricade. Those two start to brawl in the ring before Strowman returns and takes out Reigns. Angle sends security down to the ring, who are quickly tossed away by Strowman. Joe goes for the Coquina Clutch on Strowman as the entire locker room runs down to separate the three, but not before Reigns gets a spear in on Strowman. Reigns tosses everyone out of the ring, only to take a running powerslam from Strowman. Strowman stands tall as superstars hold Joe back to close out the opening segment.
  • Elias Samson vs Finn Balor in a No Disqualifications match-Balor takes the fight right to Samson before throwing him out of the ring and hitting a wrecking ball dropkick. Balor throws Samson back in the ring, only for him to roll right back out. Balor catches Samson with a forearm to the back before the commercial break. We come back to see Balor continuing to beat down Samson at ringside. Back in the ring, Samson mounts some offense, catching Balor with a clothesline. Samson beats down Balor, targeting the shoulder Samson hit with his guitar last week. Samson controls the match until Balor mounts his comeback, hitting a few forearm shots before hitting a basement dropkick. Balor stomps away at Samson before leaving the ring and grabbing a chair. However, Samson kicks him and takes the chair before smashing it across his back before another commercial break. We come back to Samson kicking Balor out of the ring. Samson controls the match as he sets up a chair in the corner. Samson tries to throw Balor into the chair, but Balor turns it around on him and throws Samson into the corner. The two trade blows before Balor hits a Pele kick. Samson manages to toss Balor out of the ring, but Balor ties him up between the apron and the ring skirt. Balor beats down and stomps away at Samson before hitting the running punt from the apron. Balor dropkicks Samson into the barricade before throwing him back into the ring. Balor beats down Samson with the chair before hitting a hesitation dropkick in the corner. Balor follows up with a dropkick, sending Samson into the corner before hitting the Coup de Grace. However, the spooky screen effect hits and Bray Wyatt appears, giving Balor a Sister Abigail and allowing Samson to crawl into the pin. Samson gets the three and the win. Pretty good match.
  • Renee Young interviews Kurt Angle. He says Jason Jordan wanted to prove he can make it on his own and says he thinks he can become a successful singles wrestler. He is interrupted by Emma, who asks when the focus will be on her. She says she started the women's revolution, but now she looks on as women who used to look up to her have moved past her. She threatens to start dating Jordan to get Angle to give her opportunities. Man, why does Jason Jordan get everything good? Angle decides to give her a match tonight...against Nia Jax.
  • Enzo Amore vs Big Cass-This was basically the same match they had at Great Balls of Fire. Enzo managed to mount a bit more offense, but Cass ended up dominating about 95% of the match. Cass finished off Enzo with a big boot for the three and the win. Cass continues to beat down Enzo until WELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL...it's the Big Show. Big Show comes down to the ring, but Cass threatens to break Enzo's neck if he comes closer. Show comes closer, so Cass shoves Enzo into Show before giving him a big boot. Cass beats down Show and gives him four Empire Elbows.
  • Renee Young interviews Alexa Bliss. She says she's not worried about SummerSlam and says that Bayley & Sasha Banks, or "Team Gag Reflex" as she calls them, will destroy their friendship tonight before she destroys the winner at SummerSlam.
  • Nia Jax vs Emma-Nia manhandles (womanhandles?) Emma to start before Emma manages to hit a few dropkicks. Nia then kills her, tossing her around the ring, splashing her in the corners, hitting an elbow drop and finally, hitting a somersault senton for the three and the win. Man, I wish they'd do something with Emma.
  • Charly Caruso interviews Akira Tozawa. Before he really says anything, he is interrupted by Titus O'Neil. He says Tozawa's shoulder is a liability right now and says he got Tozawa's match against Ariya Daivari tonight canceled. Furious, Tozawa storms off and comes down to the ring, saying he's still going to wrestle tonight. Titus follows him down to the ring and tries to persuade him against wrestling, so Tozawa slaps him. After a commercial break, Titus is gone and Tozawa tells Daivari to come down to the ring and face him like a man. Instead, Neville comes down to the ring. He says Tozawa seems to have forgotten about him and says he's the reason Tozawa is in the shape he's in right now. Tozawa challenges Neville to get in the ring, but Neville says he's in no shape to fight him right now. He says Tozawa trusted Titus O'Neil and it didn't get him anywhere and says he's a shell of his former self. Tozawa responds with a headbutt and an enziguri and goes to the top rope to hit a senton bomb. Tozawa hurts his shoulder in the process, which prompts Ariya Daivari to run down and lay him out with a hammerlock lariat. Daivari then gives Neville a hammerlock lariat before throwing the Cruiserweight Championship down onto Neville.
  • Backstage, Sasha Banks vents about what Alexa Bliss said to Bayley, but Bayley says this match won't destroy their friendship. However, Sasha then says she can't wait to beat Bliss at SummerSlam, so Bayley tells her to focus on their match tonight. Tension builds before Bayley says "May the best woman win." Sasha says she will.
  • Renee Young interviews Jason Jordan. He says he's grateful for the opportunity his dad gave him tonight and says all eyes are on him. He says he can handle the pressure, but he is nervous. He says it's unbelievable that Kurt Angle, his hero, ended up being his biological father and says his wildest dream came true.
  • In the locker room, Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins talk about their match tonight. Rollins says he's looking forward to teaming up with Ambrose for the first time in three years and says they need a plan tonight, but Ambrose says he doesn't need one. Rollins says he does since they have three guys to worry about tonight; the Miz, Curtis Axel, and Bo Dallas. Ambrose responds by saying that Rollins might have three guys to worry about, but he has four.
  • Bayley vs Sasha Banks-#1 Contendership for the RAW Women's Championship-Alexa Bliss decides to take a seat on commentary for this match. The two trade holds and go back and forth, with neither able to gain too much of an edge at the start. Bayley goes for a diving back elbow at one point, but Sasha springs up and pushes Bayley to the outside before the commercial break. We come back to Sasha working over Bayley with a straight jacket surfboard. Sasha controls the match until Bayley flapjacks Sasha into the top turnbuckle. Bayley follows up with a stunner through the ropes for a near fall before going for a backslide. Sasha blocks and it and knees Bayley in the face before giving her a double knee strike in the corner. Sasha locks in the Bank Statement and Bayley tries to get to the ropes, but Sasha kicks off. Bayley tries to turn it into a pin, but Sasha kicks out and locks in a chin lock. Bayley fights to her feet and goes for the Bayley to Belly, but Sasha blocks it and slaps Bayley. Bayley responds with a slap of her own before the two throw punches. Sasha throws Bayley face first into the corner before hitting a double knee drop. Sasha goes for the diving double knee strike, but Bayley dodges it and hits a running knee lift. Sasha is able to come back with a Shining Wizard, leaving both women down. The two get to their feet and trade blows before Sasha goes to the top rope. Bayley meets her there and goes for a superplex, but Sasha blocks it and front suplexes Bayley down to the mat. Sasha hits a Frog Splash and makes the cover, but Bayley turns it over and pins Sasha for the three and the win. Really good match between these two, wouldn't expect anything less. After the match, Alexa Bliss comes down to the ring and holds up the title in front of Bayley.
  • Renee Young interviews Curt Hawkins. He says he doesn't care about Jason Jordan and says he'll ruin is Monday Night RAW debut. He ends by saying after tonight, everyone will be talking about him.
  • Jason Jordan vs Curt Hawkins-Hawkins punches Jordan in the face before the match starts, so when it does start, Jordan tosses him around. Jordan squashes Hawkins before hitting a belly-to-back neckbreaker for the three and the win.
  • Charly Caruso tries to interview the Revival in the ring, but they quickly send her away. They then interview themselves, saying they dominated NXT and are ready to take the top spot in the RAW Tag Team Division. They are interrupted by Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson, who say the crowd doesn't want to hear this. They say they did what the Revival did first, even being bald like Scott Dawson. Gallows calls them the top nerds before they get in the ring.
  • The Revival vs Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson-Anderson & Dawson start by fighting over to the corner. Anderson slaps Dawson before Wilder tags in, with the Revival proceeding to double team Anderson. Anderson comes back with a back elbow before Gallows tags in. However, the Revival keep control until Gallows hits a double clothesline and gives both Dawson & Wilder back drops. Gallows & Anderson clothesline the Revival out of the ring before the commercial break. We come back to Dawson working over Anderson with a hammerlock. The Revival controls the match until Gallows tags in and runs through the Revival. Gallows hits a big boot on Dawson before calling him a nerd and hitting a splash. Dawson dodges a corner splash, only to run into a superkick from Gallows. Anderson tags in for the Boot of Doom, but the Revival block it before Dawson takes out Gallows knee with a chop block. The Revival sets up for the Shatter Machine, only for the Hardy Boyz music to hit. The distraction allows Gallows & Anderson to toss the Revival out of the ring before they stare down the Hardyz. However, this allows the Revival to knock Gallows out of the ring and hit the Shatter Machine on Anderson for the three and the win. Fine match, nothing special. After the match, the Hardyz brawl with the Revival, hitting Poetry in Motion on Wilder. Matt hits the Twist of Fate on Wilder before Jeff goes to the top rope, but Dawson pulls Wilder out of the ring before the inevitable Swanton Bomb.
  • Backstage, the Miz & the Miztourage discuss their match tonight. He & Maryse talks sh*t about The Mummy before turning his attention to Ambrose & Rollins. He says Rollins is trying to reboot the Shield, but tonight he & the Miztourage are what's "it" in the WWE and prove Ambrose & Rollins are a "box office bomb waiting to happen."
  • Seth Rollins & Dean Ambrose vs The Miz & The Miztourage with Maryse-Curtis Axel's out here sporting the laziest attire, pulling off his best Corporate Kane cosplay with his wrestling slacks.
Miz & Ambrose start, only for Miz to instantly tag out Corporate Axel. Ambrose pulls Axel into the ring runs through him. Rollins tags in and body slams Axel before hitting a knee drop. Dallas tags in, but Rollins gives him a hip toss before kicking him. Dallas comes back with a forearm before Miz tags in to beat down Rollins. Miz goes to the headlock, but Rollins fights out and hits a Sling Blade. Ambrose tags and chases Miz out of the ring. Axel tags in when Miz gets back in the ring, but Ambrose catches him with a knee lift before Rollins tags in for a single leg dropkick. Ambrose & Rollins clothesline Dallas out of the ring and chase off the Miz before the commercial break. We come back to Rollins hitting a back suplex on Dallas. The Miz tags in and hits a suplex on Rollins. The Miztourage controls the match until we get a double clothesline between Rollins & Miz. Ambrose gets the hot tag and runs through Dallas & Axel before taking out Miz with a plancha and throwing him into the timekeeper's area. Back in the ring, Ambrose rolls up Dallas for a near fall before hitting the Lunatic Lariat and a flying elbow, but Miz breaks up the fall. Rollins sends the Miz out of the ring, only for Axel to ram him into the barricade. Axel & Dallas try to double team Ambrose, but Ambrose prevents it before Miz make a blind tag. Ambrose tosses Axel out of the ring, only for Miz to hit a Skull Crushing Finale. Rollins is able to break up the pin and sends Dallas into the bottom rope Enzo Amore-style. Ambrose back drops Miz out of the ring before he & Rollins hit suicide dives in stereo. Back in the ring, Miz does a sh*tty roll up and goes for the Skull Crushing Finale again, but Rollins catches him with a diving knee before Ambrose hits Dirty Deeds for the three and the win. Really good, hot main event to close out RAW. After the match, Rollins extends a fist, but Ambrose leaves him hanging.

Worst in the World: The Gimmick Battle Royal-WrestleMania X-Seven

(Special thanks to Frost for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) WrestleMania X-Seven. Heavily considered the not just the best WrestleMania, but the greatest wrestling show of all time, WrestleMania X-Seven took place during the hottest period in the WWF's history, and features just about every one of the hottest acts in wrestling at the time. An undercard featuring the likes of Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, William Regal, Kane, and the Big Show. One of the biggest female stars in the history of wrestling in Chyna. A killer TLC match between the Dudley Boyz, the Hardy Boyz, and Edge & Christian. A wild brawl between The Undertaker and Triple H. A massive main event between Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock. Hell, even the father vs son Street Fight between Vince & Shane McMahon. It's a star-studded affair. However, there's one match that sticks out like

Worst in the World: The Last Rites Match-TNA Destination X 2007

(Special thanks to an anonymous user for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) An often discussed aspect of professional wrestling is the backstage politicking of Hulk Hogan. Throughout his career as a major attraction in wrestling, Hogan's philosophy has always been to protect Hulk Hogan...OK, sometimes he'd help Ed Leslie, but most of the time it was to protect Hulk Hogan. Because of that philosophy and Hogan's influence as a top guy, there have been multiple instances where a company's booking and other wrestlers have suffered as a result. Would having Mr. Perfect win the 1990 Royal Rumble made sense and could have elevated a rising star and potentially created a new main event player? Yes, but that would require Hogan to not win, and that doesn't work for Hogan, so he wins the Rumble even though he doesn't need elevating. Would booking Randy Orton to beat Hogan at SummerSlam 20

Worst in the World: D-Generation X vs Brothers of Destruction-Crown Jewel

This match didn't need to happen. After Triple H and the Undertaker had one of the most brutally bad matches of 2018 at Super Show-Down not even a month earlier, nobody wanted to see them try to wrestle again. Also, nobody wanted to see Shawn Michaels come out of retirement after his fantastic sendoff in 2010, especially for a match like this. But here we are, Triple H & Shawn Michaels facing The Undertaker & Kane in 2018. The combined ages of these four at the time is 206. That's a number you'd expect to see from a match at Heroes of Wrestling. And anyone can come up with their own reason as to why this match is happening, but that would just be ignoring the actual reason. For those of you who don't know, Crown Jewel was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. That might not seem like important information, but you can't really discuss this match without mentioning it. Despite the numerous reasons that running shows in Saudi Arabia is morally wrong (their abuse

Worst in the World: What is the Worst Wrestling Match of All Time?

Note: This series is based off a YouTube series " The Search for the Worst " by I Hate Everything, where he reviews every movie on IMDB's Bottom 100. It's a great, funny series and I'd recommend checking it out. Have you ever just thought to yourself "What is the worst match of all time?"? I don't mean something like a boring John Cena-Randy Orton match, I mean a match where the wrestlers have zero chemistry, little wrestling ability, or literally no idea what they are actually doing. I've thought about this for a while, and I've decided to finally figure it out. So I'm going to watch any match that is: a) A winner of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Award for the Worst Worked Match of the Year. or:  b) Listed on the 100 worst rated wrestling matches of all time on the Internet Wrestling Database .   (Note: Some matches appear on awards that aren't on the list.) There are 115 (EDIT: Now 99)  matches on here. I pu

Worst in the World: Trash at the Beach

Click the link here to vote in the poll and help decide the next edition of the Worst in the World. Just over a month ago, I briefly covered the massive success the WWF was having in 1999. Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock are at the top of the card. Triple H is on the rise to the main event. Mankind is playing the ultimate likable & respected babyface. Names like the Undertaker, Kane, and the Big Show are all major players. The undercard is stacked with big names like D-Generation X, D'Lo Brown, and Ken Shamrock, rising stars like The Hardy Boyz and Edge & Christian, and new signings like Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho, and the Dudley Boyz. The WWF was so red hot in 1999 that even an all-time bad WrestleMania in WrestleMania XV couldn't slow them down. But there was one other factor that made 1999 such a good year for the WWF; the fact that their main competitor, WCW, was beginning to crack. At the same time the WWF was reaching the highest heights they'd ever reache
