My Thoughts on RAW (7/17/17): Who's Your Daddy?

  • Dean Ambrose comes down to the ring to kick off the show with a steel chair in hand. He says he's bent out of shape because of the Miz, but he had fun beating him, Bo Dallas, and Curtis Axel up last week. He calls out Miz & his Miztourage and threatens to beat Miz so bad he'll wake up back on the Real World. Instead of the Miz, Seth Rollins comes out and says Ambrose shouldn't pick a fight he can't win on his own. He says Ambrose needs to come up with a better plan, but Ambrose says that's not his way and he came down after Rollins' match last week because he wanted to. He tells Rollins to stay out of his business, but Rollins says Miz insulting him made it his business. He asks if Ambrose will be in his way or on his side when he fights the Miz. Ambrose says he doesn't know this Seth Rollins, he knows the one that beat him down with a chair three years ago and broke up the Shield. Rollins apologizes for what he did and says he lives with that every single day. He runs through their history from their match at Hell in a Cell to Ambrose cashing in the Money in the Bank briefcase on him last year. He says he's moved on and asks Ambrose what it will take for him to move on. Despite that, Ambrose still doesn't trust him. Rollins says he'll let his actions speak for him and offers him a free shot with the chair. Ambrose hesitates and throws the chair out of the ring. The Miz comes out with Axel & Dallas and says that Rollins trying to make amends with Ambrose is a waste of time. He says Ambrose can't beat him no matter what as Axel & Dallas surround the ring. The Miztourage grabs steel chairs as Miz picks up the one Ambrose threw out of the ring. Ambrose goes after the Miz, leaving Rollins open to a beat down from Axel & Dallas. Miz beats down Ambrose and throws him into the ring steps before joining the beat down on Rollins, ending with the ugliest Skull Crushing Finale I've ever seen into a set-up chair. Miz gets in one last chair shot on Ambrose before heading to the back with the Miztourage.
  • After a commercial break, Charly Caruso tries to interview the Miz, but Miz brushes her off, quickly leaving the arena with Maryse & the Miztourage.
  • Bayley vs Alexa Bliss-Bliss slaps Bayley right away, which leads to the two trading blows in the corner. Bayley clotheslines Bliss to the ground before Nia Jax comes out before the commercial break. We come back to Bliss working over Bayley with a surfboard. Bliss controls the match until Bayley hits a stunner through the ropes. Bayley follows up with a flapjack into the top turnbuckle. Bayley goes for an overhead throw, but Bliss blocks it, only to get caught with a back elbow. Bayley follows up with a side suplex and a second ropes elbow drop, which Bliss rolls out of the ring for. Bliss hides behind Nia, who gets in front of Bayley and allows Bliss to cheap shot Bayley. Sasha Banks runs down to even the odds and takes out Nia as Bayley rolls up Bliss for a near fall. Bayley follows up with a Bayley to Belly for the three and the win. Fine match, nothing special.
  • Backstage, Kurt Angle is nervous about coming clean tonight and venting to Corey Graves. Graves tells him that the story will come out no matter what and it would be better if he came out from him and not someone else. Angle thanks Graves before Graves walks off.
  • In the locker room, Titus O'Neil talks to Apollo Crews & Akira Tozawa. They are interrupted by Ariya Daivari, who says Tozawa has no honor and challenges him to a match tonight.
  • The Brian Kendrick & Drew Gulak vs Mustafa Ali & Gentleman Jack Gallagher-Jesus Christ, how long has it been since Drew Gulak's been on RAW? But anyway, Gulak's got a new gimmick now. He seems to have a pseudo-politician schtick going, as he's trying to enforce a "No Fly Zone" on 205 Live and has a new logo similar to a presidential seal. He's even starting to look like Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner.
Maybe when he's done with his feud with Ali he can fight to take away the wrestler's health insurance...oh wait. Gallagher & Kendrick start off, only for Kendrick to quickly tag out to Gulak. Gallagher quickly gets Gulak in a surfboard and stomps on him. However, Gallagher gets distracted by Kendrick, allowing Gulak to hit him from behind. Gallagher comes back with a body scissor takeover and back drops Gulak out of the ring. Kendrick makes the tag mid back drop, but Gallagher headbutts Kendrick and tags out to Ali, who instantly hits the imploding 450 splash for the three and the win.
  • Enzo Amore comes down to the ring. He says for every action, there is a reaction, and nobody gets a reaction on the mic like he does. He says he runs his mouth knowing the repercussions and says his losses might outway is assets, but that's OK. He says you always have to fight for what you believe in and he says he let Big Cass throw him at their opponents because he wanted to win. He says that even though Cass is seven feet tall, they never won any championships and says even though Cass threw him out of the ring at Great Balls of Fire, he didn't throw him out of his life. He says if he gets knocked down nine times, he gets back up ten times and he even got to his feet when he got tossed out of the ring. He then mocks Cass for getting beat up by Big Show last week before I tuned out to make that Gulak-Kushner picture. Man...this was just rambling and rambling and rambling. Big Cass eventually cuts him off and blames Corey Graves for this. He says Enzo didn't learn his lesson at Great Balls of Fire and comes down to the ring to kick his ass. Enzo quickly ducks out of the ring (like a babyface, of course) and takes a seat in the crowd before the Big Show comes down to the ring. The two brawl, with Big Show getting the upper hand and throwing Cass into the barricade. The two continue to slowly brawl before they get on the ring apron, where Cass shoves Show into the ring post. Cass beats down Show until Enzo runs in to eat a big boot. This was bad. Enzo's promo was pretty much just rambling, then he dipped out of the ring when Cass tried to fight him, and then we got a sh*t brawl.
  • Charly Caruso interviews Roman Reigns. Reigns says the stakes are high tonight in his match against Samoa Joe, but Joe's previous wins over him are in the past. He says he'll beat Joe tonight and go to SummerSlam, where he'll beat Brock Lesnar and become the next Universal. Champion.
  • Backstage, Seth Rollins & Dean Ambrose argue about what happened earlier tonight before Kurt Angle shows up. Angle says that next week, they'll face any two members of the Miztourage, but Ambrose says they can take all three. Angle instead makes it a 2-on-3 handicap match for next week; Rollins & Ambrose vs Miz & the Miztourage.
  • Elias Samson vs Finn Balor-Before the match, Samson tries to sing a song about Nashville, but Balor interrupts him. The two go back and forth to start until Samson body slams Balor into the ropes. Samson beats down Balor, slamming him down on the ring apron before flooring him with a back elbow. Samson controls the match until Balor catches him with a Pele kick. Balor follows up with forearms and a basement dropkick but gets caught trying to leap over Samson in the corner. Samson catches Balor in an electric chair before turning it into a sitout powerbomb, but Balor kicks out. Samson follows up with a backbreaker for a near fall before going to the top rope. Balor kicks him down to the outside and hits a wrecking ball dropkick before hitting the punt kick from the apron. Balor follows up with a dropkick, sending Samson into the barricade. However, Samson crawls over to the timekeeper's area and grabs his guitar before smashing it over Balor's shoulder. FINALLY! He's been doing this gimmick for like two years now and this is the first time he went full on Jeff Jarrett on someone. Balor gets busted open as the match gets thrown out, ending in an obvious DQ. Bray Wyatt pops up on the screen and says he's been watching Balor and feels he needs to cause Balor pain & agony.
  • Backstage, Kurt Angle is on the phone before Bayley & Sasha Banks come in, arguing over who should be the #1 contender to the RAW Women's Championship. Angle says that next week, they'll face off, with the winner facing Alexa Bliss for the title at SummerSlam.
  • Charly Caruso interviews the Revival. They say they attacked Hardy Boyz because they're the Hardy Boyz and they go against their motto of "No Flips, Just Fists." They say the Hardy Boyz acted like they didn't know who they were when they met them, but they'll definitely know after tonight.
  • Akira Tozawa with Titus O'Neil vs Ariya Daivari-Tozawa starts off in control, but Daivari quickly cuts him off, blocking a senton with his knees. Daivari works over Tozawa's shoulder until Tozawa hits a Frankensteiner. Tozawa follows up with a side suplex and goes to the top rope, but Daivari gets to his feet. Tozawa jumps over him, but Daivari catches him with an armbreaker for a near fall. Daivari follows up with a knee to the back of the head and continues to beat down Tozawa until Titus hops up on the apron, yelling at the referee to end the match. The ref complies and calls for the bell, giving Daivari the win by ref stoppage. After the match, Titus & Tozawa argue over Titus' call to throw in the towel.
  • Kurt Angle comes down to the ring to come clean. He says that every action has a consequence, and an act from his past has a serious consequence. He says his family is 100% supportive and the WWE is supportive of this announcement. He says when he was in college, he dated someone, and after they broke up, she gave birth to a baby boy. The baby was put up for adoption and he went on to become a great athlete who wanted to become a WWE superstar. Kurt Angle brings out his son...that's right...it's CHAD GAB-wait, why is Jason Jordan here? Oh...it's Jason Jordan? Not that I'm complaining, Jason Jordan is great, but...dude, Chad Gable is like, literally the second coming of Kurt Angle. They're pretty much the same person. But whatever, Jason Jordan is Kurt Angle's son now. Jordan comes down to the ring and hugs it out with his dad. I guess that's the end of American Alpha, at least for now. I'm gonna miss Jason Jordan Hot Tag Time...bitches, but to be honest, American Alpha was absolutely wasted on SmackDown. That's mostly because the tag division was so weak on SmackDown, but still. Hope this leads to better things for both Jordan and Chad Gable on SmackDown.
  • The Hardy Boyz vs The Revival-SAY YEAH! It's been way too long since I've seen a Revival match. The Hardys take the fight right to the Revival before the match starts. Matt Hardy & Scott Dawson start off going back and forth before Matt tags in Jeff. The two stomp a mudhole in Dawson before Jeff clotheslines Dawson. The Hardys control the match until Dawson forces Matt into the Revival's corner. The Revival beats on Matt until Matt fights back and rams Dawson's head into three turnbuckles. Matt follows up with a bulldog for a near fall before tagging in Jeff for a leg drop/splash combo. Dash Wilder runs in, only to eat a double team move from the Hardys before the commercial break. We come back to the Revival targeting Matt Hardy's knee. The Revival controls the match, continuing to beat on Matt's knee and cutting off Matt's attempts to tag out. Matt is able to tag out to Jeff after back dropping Wilder and Jeff runs wild, hitting an atomic drop, a leg drop, and a basement dropkick for a near fall. Jeff hits a second rope splash for a near fall and calls for the Twist of Fate, but a distraction from Dawson allows Wilder to hit him from behind. The Revival goes for a double team, but the Hardys counter it and Jeff hits Dawson with the Twist of Fate, but Dawson kicks out. The Hardys hit Poetry in Motion before Jeff goes to the top rope, but Wilder pushes him and crotches him on the top rope. Dawson pins Jeff with a handful of pants for the three and the win. Pretty good tag match.
  • Charly Caruso interviews Samoa Joe. He says he showed the world he doesn't fear Brock Lesnar and that Roman Reigns has made the mistake of seeing him as an obstacle to get to Lesnar. Joe says he'll beat Reigns tonight and go on to slay the beast.
  • Backstage, Akira Tozawa is icing his shoulder as Titus tries to explain why he stopped the match. Tozawa says he wouldn't have quit, which Titus says he knows, which could've ended with him getting seriously injured. Tozawa says that next week, he wants to face Ariya Daivari again.
  • Roman Reigns vs Samoa Joe-Winner Faces Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship at SummerSlam-The two go back and forth to start before Joe slaps Reigns. Reigns responds with a shoulder block. Joe rolls out of the ring but quickly gets back up on the apron. Reigns knocks him back down to the outside before the commercial break. We come back to Joe hitting a corner enziguri. Joe punches away at Reigns in the corner before Reigns rolls him up for a near fall. Joe floors Reigns with a back elbow for a near fall before going to a chinlock. Joe controls the match until Reigns fires back with two clotheslines and a flying clothesline for a near fall. Reigns clotheslines Joe in the corner before hitting a big boot. Joe rolls out of the ring, so Reigns tries to go for the Drive By Dropkick. However, Joe catches him with a clothesline, but Reigns responds with a clothesline of his own before another commercial break. We come back to Reigns hitting a Samoan Drop for a near fall. Reigns goes for the Superman Punch, but Joe catches him with an atomic drop before hitting a big boot and a senton for a near fall. Joe goes for the Uranage, but Reigns counters it with an arm drag and hits the Superman Punch for a near fall. Both men are down before BRAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN! Braun Strowman comes down to the ring and pulls Samoa Joe out. Strowman hops up on the apron, but Reigns knocks him down. Reigns takes the fight to Strowman, but Strowman throws him into the barricade and throws him through the second rope from ringside. Strowman then turns his attention to Joe and the two brawl. Strowman floors Joe before getting back in the ring. Strowman blocks a Superman Punch before splashing Reigns in the corner. Joe gets back in the ring, only to get splashed. Reigns fights back and sends Strowman right into a Coquina Clutch from Joe. Reigns connects with a Superman Punch, breaking the Coquina Clutch, but Strowman catches the second one and plants him with a spinebuster. Strowman then splashes Joe in the corner and gives him a running powerslam. Strowman then gives Reigns one as well. Strowman starts to leave but goes to pick Reigns up again. Several security guys come down to stop Strowman, but it's no use. Strowman hits the running powerslam on Reigns again before leaving the ring.

Worst in the World: The Gimmick Battle Royal-WrestleMania X-Seven

(Special thanks to Frost for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) WrestleMania X-Seven. Heavily considered the not just the best WrestleMania, but the greatest wrestling show of all time, WrestleMania X-Seven took place during the hottest period in the WWF's history, and features just about every one of the hottest acts in wrestling at the time. An undercard featuring the likes of Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, William Regal, Kane, and the Big Show. One of the biggest female stars in the history of wrestling in Chyna. A killer TLC match between the Dudley Boyz, the Hardy Boyz, and Edge & Christian. A wild brawl between The Undertaker and Triple H. A massive main event between Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock. Hell, even the father vs son Street Fight between Vince & Shane McMahon. It's a star-studded affair. However, there's one match that sticks out like

Worst in the World: The Last Rites Match-TNA Destination X 2007

(Special thanks to an anonymous user for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) An often discussed aspect of professional wrestling is the backstage politicking of Hulk Hogan. Throughout his career as a major attraction in wrestling, Hogan's philosophy has always been to protect Hulk Hogan...OK, sometimes he'd help Ed Leslie, but most of the time it was to protect Hulk Hogan. Because of that philosophy and Hogan's influence as a top guy, there have been multiple instances where a company's booking and other wrestlers have suffered as a result. Would having Mr. Perfect win the 1990 Royal Rumble made sense and could have elevated a rising star and potentially created a new main event player? Yes, but that would require Hogan to not win, and that doesn't work for Hogan, so he wins the Rumble even though he doesn't need elevating. Would booking Randy Orton to beat Hogan at SummerSlam 20

Worst in the World: D-Generation X vs Brothers of Destruction-Crown Jewel

This match didn't need to happen. After Triple H and the Undertaker had one of the most brutally bad matches of 2018 at Super Show-Down not even a month earlier, nobody wanted to see them try to wrestle again. Also, nobody wanted to see Shawn Michaels come out of retirement after his fantastic sendoff in 2010, especially for a match like this. But here we are, Triple H & Shawn Michaels facing The Undertaker & Kane in 2018. The combined ages of these four at the time is 206. That's a number you'd expect to see from a match at Heroes of Wrestling. And anyone can come up with their own reason as to why this match is happening, but that would just be ignoring the actual reason. For those of you who don't know, Crown Jewel was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. That might not seem like important information, but you can't really discuss this match without mentioning it. Despite the numerous reasons that running shows in Saudi Arabia is morally wrong (their abuse

Worst in the World: What is the Worst Wrestling Match of All Time?

Note: This series is based off a YouTube series " The Search for the Worst " by I Hate Everything, where he reviews every movie on IMDB's Bottom 100. It's a great, funny series and I'd recommend checking it out. Have you ever just thought to yourself "What is the worst match of all time?"? I don't mean something like a boring John Cena-Randy Orton match, I mean a match where the wrestlers have zero chemistry, little wrestling ability, or literally no idea what they are actually doing. I've thought about this for a while, and I've decided to finally figure it out. So I'm going to watch any match that is: a) A winner of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Award for the Worst Worked Match of the Year. or:  b) Listed on the 100 worst rated wrestling matches of all time on the Internet Wrestling Database .   (Note: Some matches appear on awards that aren't on the list.) There are 115 (EDIT: Now 99)  matches on here. I pu

Worst in the World: Trash at the Beach

Click the link here to vote in the poll and help decide the next edition of the Worst in the World. Just over a month ago, I briefly covered the massive success the WWF was having in 1999. Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock are at the top of the card. Triple H is on the rise to the main event. Mankind is playing the ultimate likable & respected babyface. Names like the Undertaker, Kane, and the Big Show are all major players. The undercard is stacked with big names like D-Generation X, D'Lo Brown, and Ken Shamrock, rising stars like The Hardy Boyz and Edge & Christian, and new signings like Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho, and the Dudley Boyz. The WWF was so red hot in 1999 that even an all-time bad WrestleMania in WrestleMania XV couldn't slow them down. But there was one other factor that made 1999 such a good year for the WWF; the fact that their main competitor, WCW, was beginning to crack. At the same time the WWF was reaching the highest heights they'd ever reache
