My Thoughts on RAW (12/12/16): Demolishing Records

  • IT'S A NEW DAY, YES IT IS! We kick off the show with the New Day. They say that they will make history tonight by retaining the Tag Team Championships and breaking Demolition's record title reign. They say they are doing it for everyone who has supported them tonight.
  • The New Day (c) vs Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows vs Cesaro & Sheamus-RAW Tag Team Championships-Cesaro & Kofi start off with Kofi hitting a headscissor takedown followed by a corner crossbody for a near fall. Cesaro follows up with a delayed vertical suplex for a near fall before tagging Sheamus. Sheamus hits top rope double ax handle for a near fall before Kofu escapes a running powerslam and tags in Big E. The New Day double team Sheamus before Big E gets a near fall. Kofi avoids suplex and hits a jawbreaker before Karl Anderson tags in Sheamus. Gallows & Anderson double team Kofi, including a big roundhouse kick from Gallows for a near fall before the commercial break. We come back to Anderson working over Kofi with a headlock. Big E tries to help out Kofi, but Gallows & Anderson take him out. Gallows takes out Cesaro before Kofi hits a dropkick. Sheamus makes the blind tag and runs wild on Gallows & Kofi. Sheamus gives Gallows the Beats of the Bodhran before giving him a running powerslam, but Big E prevents the three. Sheamus hits an Irish Curse Backbreaker on Big E, but Gallows & Anderson hit the Boot of Doom on Sheamus. Cesaro breaks up the pin and makes the save before getting the tag from Sheamus. Cesaro runs wild on Anderson, hitting a 619 before literally just running through everybody at ringside. He is the absolute best. Cesaro swings Anderson before locking in the Sharpshooter. Big E dishes Sheamus out of the ring before Cesaro takes out Big E. Cesaro holds Anderson up for a Brogue Kick, but Kofi takes out Sheamus with Trouble in Paradise. Kofi pins Sheamus as Big E holds Cesaro back, allowing Kofi to get the win. Really good match, a great way to open RAW.
  • Backstage at the New Day's celebration, featuring members of the roster and even some indy wrestlers, such as Brittany Blake & Deonna Purrazzo. Stephanie McMahon gives the New Day a toast before Xavier Woods sprays some champagne, accidentally getting it Stephanie's eyes. Stephanie smacks a punch bowl full of Booty-Os out of Big E's hand before leaving in anger.
  • We see Stephanie McMahon drying off when she is approached by Kevin Owens. Owens says the New Day need to be taught a lesson before saying he has an idea for her. Stephanie says she'll get changed and then Owens can tell her
  • Braun Strowman vs Curtis Axel-Strowman dominates the match, finishing Axel off with a wheelbarrow facebuster. Byron Saxton tries to interview Strowman, but Strowman yells at him to congratulate him. Strowman says that Mick Foley is protecting Sami Zayn because Zayn couldn't last 2 minutes with him.
  • Backstage, Sami Zayn comes up to Mick Foley. He says he wants a match with Strowman. Foley says he can't but Zayn says he doesn't need to be saved. Zayn asks Foley who he would be someone tried to keep Foley safe, but Foley says Strowman will try to end his career. Foley says he can't beat Strowman, so Zayn says that maybe he doesn't need to be on RAW. Foley says he'll call Daniel Bryan and trade Zayn right now.
  • Ariya Daivari vs Lince Dorado-Dorado does a few flips when the match starts for no reason. Daivari starts by working over Dorado with a headlock before locking in a hammerlock. Dorado comes back with a headscissor takedown followed by kicks and a springboard crossbody for a near fall. Daivari comes back with a clothesline before Jack Gallagher's music hits. Gallagher comes out and says that, being an extraordinary gentleman, he is declaring his intention to interfere in the match. He calls Daivari a scoundrel and says he will give him a thorough thrashing. The two fight before Gallagher gives him a headbutt and a dropkick. Jack Gallagher is great.
  • It's time for the Rollins Report. Rollins says he wants Triple H before saying he'll get rid of Chris Jericho at Roadblock. Don't. He brings out Kevin Owens, who walks out with a microphone, walks back, then comes back with a stool. Owens says he doesn't care about his show before saying he only came out because he has an announcement to make. Rollins asks him about his & Chris Jericho's friendship, but Owens dodges the question. Owens says he'll have Jericho's back and Jericho will have his. Owens warns Rollins not to interrupt him or he'll break his face. He announces that Stephanie McMahon has booked the New Day in another Tag Team Championship match tonight against the team of Chris Jericho & himself. This brings out Chris Jericho, who says Owens is crazy. Owens apologizes for not running it by him but says they could make history by ruining the New Day's chance at breaking Demolition's record. Rollins tries to stir the pot between them before Jericho calls him a stupid idiot. Jericho says he'll put him on the list...the disabled list. Owens & Jericho both run down and beat up Rollins before Roman Reigns comes down. He & Rollins brawl with Owens & Jericho, ending with Rollins going for the Pedigree on Jericho, but Owens makes the save.
  • Charly Caruso interviews "The Outlandish" Rich Swann. Why is he outlandish? What is "outlandish" about him. The definition of outlandish is, as follows, "looking or sounding bizarre or unfamiliar." He's not weird looking. Unless this is the only picture of Rich Swann you've ever seen.
He says it doesn't matter who he face before Brian Kendrick walks up. He says the only reason Kendrick lost at 205 Live was because of TJ Perkins. Kendrick brings up that Perkins kicked Swann on 205 Live. This brings over Perkins, who says he'll do whatever it takes to win the Cruiserweight Championship back.
  • TJ Perkins vs Brian Kendrick-No handshake to start before Kendrick starts working over the left arm of Perkins. Perkins fights out before going for the kneebar, but Kendrick escapes the hold. Perkins goes for the Detonation Kick, but Kendrick grabs the rope to avoid it. Perkins kicks Kendrick to the outside and hits a wrecking ball dropkick before the commercial break. We come back to Kendrick working over Perkins with a headlock. Kendrick goes for Captain's Hook, but Perkins blocks it and hits a spin kick. Perkins hits an atomic drop followed by a dropkick to Kendrick's knee. Perkins hits a hesitation dropkick to Kendrick in the Tree of Woe before hitting a missile dropkick for a near fall. Perkins goes for the double chickenwing gutbuster, but Kendrick blocks it and hits a big boot. Kendrick goes for Captain's Hook again, but Perkins reverses it and locks in the kneebar, but Kendrick makes it to the ropes. Kendrick hits the Sliced Bread for the win. Fine match, nothing special.
  • Seth Rollins & Roman Reigns are walking backstage when Mick Foley confronts them. He says seeing them team up reminded him of the Shield, so he adds Reigns & Rollins to the Tag Team Championship match, making it a triple threat match.
  • Bayley vs Alicia Fox-Why are they having a match tonight? Because Alicia Fox destroyed Bayley's teddy bear for talking to Fox's boyfriend Cedric Alexander...I think. The two go back and forth to start before Bayley hits a backelbow for a near fall. Fox hits a huge scissor kick for a near fall before hitting a Northern Light suplex for another near fall. Fox hits two forearm strikes before Bayley catches her on the third and hits the Bayley-to-Belly for the win.
  • It's time for Rusev & Lana: Behind Closed Doors. Rusev says he's destroyed all of our American heroes, but last week he took out the American trash. He says that after he beat up Enzo Amore in the hotel room and threw him into the hallway, he & Lana "did their business." Rusev asks the crowd if they want to see it before Lana tells the kids to close their eyes. Byron Saxton says he doesn't want to see this. They instead just show Enzo getting beat up last week. Lana laughs at everyone thinking they were going to show a sextape. She says Enzo is delusional for thinking he had a shot with her. Rusev then threatens to crush anyone who tries to go for Lana before Big Cass comes out. He says Rusev caught Enzo with his pants down, but Cass' pants are on. Ummm...no they aren't. He's wearing trunks. Rusev & Cass brawl around ringside.
  • In the locker room, Kevin Owens says that Foley put Reigns & Rollins in the triple threat match to spite them before giving Chris Jericho a pep talk. Jericho says he should focus on winning tonight.
  • For f*cks sake! What happened to "Premiering Next Week"? Now Emmalina is "Premiering Soon" again. F*cking hell!
  • Sami Zayn vs Jinder Mahal-Zayn dominates the match until Mahal hits a Stun Gun and a knee strike for a near fall. Mahal works over Zayn until Zayn hits a big clothesline, followed by an exploder suplex in the corner and a Helluva Kick for the win. Foley comes out after the match to announce that Zayn will be traded to SmackDown for a "talent of equal value." Zayn asks once more time if Foley will give him a match wtih Braun Strowman, but Foley says no. Foley then says he traded Zayn for EVA MARIE! Zayn gets mad, saying he's worth a thousand Eva Maries. Hey, thats...pretty true. He then yells at Foley for trying to protect and says he wants Strowman, yelling in Foley's face and shaking him. Foley finally gives in and books the match for Roadblock; Sami Zayn vs Braun Strowman. Foley reveals he never made the trade and he always believed in him, but he needed Zayn to show him that he really wanted it. Foley then reveals the match has a 10-minute time limit for Zayn to show everyone what he's got.
  • The New Day (c) with Kofi Kingston vs Kevin Owens & Chris Jericho vs Seth Rollins & Roman Reigns-RAW Tag Team Championships-Seth Rollins & Xavier Woods start off by trading holds before Woods hits a shoulder tackle. The two avoid eachother's kicks before Woods hits an uppercut, to which Rollins responds too with a Sling Blade for a near fall. Reigns & Big E tag in, with Reigns blocking the apron spear before clotheslining Big E. Jericho tags Reigns, allowing Owens & Jericho to work over Big E. Big E & Owens both go down on a double clothesline, allowing Woods to tag in and hit a hesitation dropkick for a near fall. Woods goes to the top rope but Jericho distracts him. Owens & Jericho try to superplex Woods, but Rollins runs over to stop them. Reigns & Big E then run over for a double Tower of Doom spot before the commercial break. We come back to Kevin Owens being the HEADLOCK MASTER! He works over Woods with a headlock before Woods avoids a senton. Big E gets the hot tag and suplexes Jericho around the ring before hitting the big splash. Rollins tags Big E when he hits the splash and hits a suicide dive on Jericho before hitting another one on Big E. Rollins hits a high knee as Reigns tags in before Rollins takes out Woods & Kofi with a suicide dive. Jericho goes for a Codebreaker, but Reigns catches him and hits a powerbomb for a near fall. Reigns takes out Owens with a Superman Punch before Woods tags Jericho, hitting a coast-to-coast elbow drop for a near fall. Woods & Reigns exchange strikes before Rollins makes a blind tag on Reigns, allowing the two to hit an assisted knee strike. Everyone gets their spots in before Jericho hits a Lionsault on Woods for a near fall. Jericho locks in the Walls of Jericho, but Woods turns it into a rollup for a near fall. Woods goes for a springboard tornado DDT, but Jericho blocks it and he & Owens hit a pop-up Codebreaker. Jericho makes the cover, but Rollins shoves Owens into Jericho to break up the pin. Owens & Jericho argue before Rollins knees Jericho into Owens and hits the Pedigree on Jericho. Big E pulls Rollins out of the ring, allowing Woods to make the cover and retain the titles. Great match, very exciting and full of great tags. After the match, Owens & Jericho argue, with Jericho saying that their friendship is over. Jericho leaves the ring, allowing Owens to be speared by Reigns.

Worst in the World: The Last Rites Match-TNA Destination X 2007

(Special thanks to an anonymous user for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) An often discussed aspect of professional wrestling is the backstage politicking of Hulk Hogan. Throughout his career as a major attraction in wrestling, Hogan's philosophy has always been to protect Hulk Hogan...OK, sometimes he'd help Ed Leslie, but most of the time it was to protect Hulk Hogan. Because of that philosophy and Hogan's influence as a top guy, there have been multiple instances where a company's booking and other wrestlers have suffered as a result. Would having Mr. Perfect win the 1990 Royal Rumble made sense and could have elevated a rising star and potentially created a new main event player? Yes, but that would require Hogan to not win, and that doesn't work for Hogan, so he wins the Rumble even though he doesn't need elevating. Would booking Randy Orton to beat Hogan at SummerSlam 20

Worst in the World: The Gimmick Battle Royal-WrestleMania X-Seven

(Special thanks to Frost for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) WrestleMania X-Seven. Heavily considered the not just the best WrestleMania, but the greatest wrestling show of all time, WrestleMania X-Seven took place during the hottest period in the WWF's history, and features just about every one of the hottest acts in wrestling at the time. An undercard featuring the likes of Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, William Regal, Kane, and the Big Show. One of the biggest female stars in the history of wrestling in Chyna. A killer TLC match between the Dudley Boyz, the Hardy Boyz, and Edge & Christian. A wild brawl between The Undertaker and Triple H. A massive main event between Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock. Hell, even the father vs son Street Fight between Vince & Shane McMahon. It's a star-studded affair. However, there's one match that sticks out like

Worst in the World: D-Generation X vs Brothers of Destruction-Crown Jewel

This match didn't need to happen. After Triple H and the Undertaker had one of the most brutally bad matches of 2018 at Super Show-Down not even a month earlier, nobody wanted to see them try to wrestle again. Also, nobody wanted to see Shawn Michaels come out of retirement after his fantastic sendoff in 2010, especially for a match like this. But here we are, Triple H & Shawn Michaels facing The Undertaker & Kane in 2018. The combined ages of these four at the time is 206. That's a number you'd expect to see from a match at Heroes of Wrestling. And anyone can come up with their own reason as to why this match is happening, but that would just be ignoring the actual reason. For those of you who don't know, Crown Jewel was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. That might not seem like important information, but you can't really discuss this match without mentioning it. Despite the numerous reasons that running shows in Saudi Arabia is morally wrong (their abuse

Worst in the World: Nia Jax's Worst Matches

Click the link here to vote in the poll and help decide the next edition of the Worst in the World. Nia Jax's first run with the WWE can really only be described as hard to watch. Sure, she had a few stand-out matches, most notably (and surprisingly) her match with Ronda Rousey at Money in the Bank, and an underrated gem with Bayley at NXT TakeOver: London, but those were always outshined by her most infamous matches and moments. She's since returned to WWE and, for the most part, seems to have improved a bit, but the reputation she got from her initial run is gonna be hard to shake off. This week, I'll be looking at some of Jax's worst matches. These include just flat-out bad matches, and matches that have become infamous examples of her reckless in-ring work. Match #1: vs Charlotte Flair-April 10th, 2017 Raw The first match we'll be looking at is from the April 10, 2017 episode of Monday Night Raw, when Nia took on Charlotte Flair. The two had been on the losing e

Worst in the World: Carmella vs Asuka: How to Destroy an Aura

Throughout the entire history of the WWE, we've never seen, and probably will never see again, a woman booked as strong as Asuka was to start her run. Coming into WWE in 2015 with over a decade of experience wrestling in her native Japan as Kana, Asuka was immediately treated like a huge deal. Hell, even from the first time we saw her on a WWE broadcast, she was seated in the crowd of NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn next to two Hall of Famers in Ric Flair & Sgt. Slaughter. Officially debuting in October 2015, Asuka would go her entire NXT career, nearly two full years, without being pinned or submitted. She was booked so strong, in fact, that instead of dropping the NXT Women's Championship in what would be her last match in NXT at the time to Ember Moon (even after sustaining an injury), an act that is almost always the case for champions leaving NXT for the main roster, Asuka retained and later vacated the title, keeping her streak intact. For a company that is more than willing t
