My Thoughts on SmackDown (12/27/16): Uniquely Attractive

  • We kick off the show with the return of JOHN CENA! DO DO DO DOOOOO! DO DO DO DOOOOOOOO!...anyways. He talks about Chicago and stuff before running down the card for the show tonight. He then says that he's not done with the WWE and that it's not the New Era, it's the "My Time is Now Era." He then officially challenges the winner of the WWE Championship match tonight to a match at the Royal Rumble because he's John Cena...that's not me being snarky, that's actually what he said.
  • Backstage, an interviewer walks up to Miz's huge dressing room guarded by security. Miz refuses to answer any questions that aren't from Renee Young
  • Randy Orton & Luke Harper (c) vs American Alpha vs Heath Slater & Rhyno vs The Usos in a Four Corners Elimination Match-SmackDown Tag Team Championships-Chad Gable & Rhyno start, with Rhyno overpowering Gable. Gable manages to hit a very impressive Northern Lights suplex before Jey Uso makes the blind tag. The Usos proceed to double team Rhyno until Rhyno hits a short-arm clothesline on Jimmy Uso. Slater gets the tag and runs wild on Jimmy, hitting a high knee, a leg lariat, and a neckbreaker for a near fall. Slater goes to the top rope, falls off by accident, lands, runs the ropes, then runs right into a superkick and gets pinned, eliminating him & Rhyno. After a commercial break, we come back to Jey Uso working over Jason Jordan with a headlock. Jordan flips out of a side suplex and makes the tag to Gable. It's Chad Gable hot tag time bitches? Gable suplexes Jey Uso around the ring, but Jimmy breaks the up the fall. The Usos go for a double splash, but American Alpha pops up and hit tandem belly-to-belly suplexes. Eventually, Jordan rolls up Jimmy Uso and eliminates the Usos. After that, the Usos attack American Alpha. Randy Orton takes the opportunity to suplex Jordan onto the ropes and hits a powerslam on him for a near fall. Orton continues to beatdown on Jordan until Jordan dropkicks him. Gable gets the hot tag again and runs wild on Luke Harper, even German suplexing him for a near fall. However, the Wyatt's regain control with a big boot from Harper before another commercial break. We come back to Harper working over Gable with a side headlock. Harper continues to beat down Gable before putting him between the ropes and slingshotting him, causing him to fall out of the ring. Gable gets back in, so Harper throws him back out and tags in Orton, who side suplexes Gable onto the barricade twice. Back in the ring, Orton suplexes Gable onto the ropes before hitting a slingshot suplex for a near fall. The Wyatt's continue to beat down on Gable until Gable reverses a powerbomb with a hurricanrana. Jason Jordan gets the hot tag. IT'S JASON JORDAN HOT TAG TIME BITCHES! Jordan suplexes the Wyatt's around the ring before brawling to the outside with Harper, where Gable takes him out with a cannonball. Jordan takes out Bray Wyatt on the outside but gets caught with a draping DDT by Orton when he gets back in the ring. Orton calls for the RKO, but Gable distracts him. A scuffle ensues, ending with Orton knocking Harper off the apron and Gable hitting a missile dropkick on Orton. American Alpha finishes Orton off with Grand Amplitude for the win and the titles. New SmackDown Tag Team Champions American Alpha! Really good match, especially towards the end with the Wyatts & American Alpha. Orton & Harper argue in the ring before being broken up by Wyatt.
  • Backstage, Dolph Ziggler gets interviewed by Renee Young. Ziggler says putting his title shot on the line wasn't the smartest decision, but now he's focused on the title match tonight. He says he's the wild card tonight and every once and a while, the wild card changes the whole game
  • James Ellsworth in a neck brace and a sling gets interviewed. He says the fans making fun of his appearance gets him down sometimes before Carmella comes over and says she finds Ellsworth "uniquely attractive."
  • Alexa Bliss (c) vs Becky Lynch-SmackDown Women's Championship-The two lock up, with Lynch getting the upper hand at first. Lynch locks in a reverse figure four on Bliss, but Bliss gets to the ropes. Lynch continues to control the match until the two trade near falls. Lynch kicks Bliss down and goes for an armbar, but Bliss able to escape and gets a few near falls. Bliss hits an STO and takes control of the match. Lynch comes back with a few arm drags before Bliss rolls out of the ring. Lynch goes for a baseball slide, but Bliss dodges and beats down Lynch at ringside. Lynch tries to bodyslam Bliss, but Bliss escapes and shoves her into the ring post before the commercial break. We come back to Bliss beating down Lynch in the ring. Lynch fights back with uppercuts before hitting a leg lariat and goes for the Flying Firearm. Bliss dodges, but Lynch keeps control. Bliss blocks the Bex-Ploder, but Lynch blocks a DDT and attacks Bliss's arm. Lynch goes to the top rope and hits a missile dropkick for a near fall. Suddenly, outcomes...La Luchadora? The distraction almost gets Lynch rolled up, but she kicks out while La Luchadora takes off the second turnbuckle. Bliss gives Lynch a stiff forearm but dodges Twisted Bliss and locks in the Dis-Arm-Her. Bliss escapes the hold by getting her foot on the ropes, but she actual dislocated her elbow. Either that or she's double jointed. Either way, it looked nasty. As the referee checks on Bliss, who popped her shoulder back in place, La Luchadora rams Becky into the ring post, allowing Bliss to get back up and DDT her for the win. Fine match. As for who La Luchadora is, that's a mystery. Just about every part of her body is covered,
  • Renee Young tries to interview the Miz. Maryse threatens Renee, but the Miz calms her down. Renee unenthusiastically asks her question, and Miz says 2017 will be his year. He doesn't notice Dean Ambrose walk up behind him and attacks him.
  • Nikki Bella gets interviewed. She says she got where she is today because of her determination and that she'll say what she has to say to Natalya's face.
  • Baron Corbin gets interviewed. He says he should've been a top star a long time ago and that there's no pressure for him.
  • AJ Styles (c) vs Baron Corbin vs Dolph Ziggler-WWE Championship-Corbin shoves Styles to start before everyone goes back and forth. Eventually, Corbin sends Styles to the outside before the commercial break. We come back to Corbin beating down Ziggler & Styles at ringside. Corbin gets a near fall on Styles before almost hitting the End of Days, only for Styles to block it. Ziggler dropkicks Corbin and almost gives Styles the roll up win. Ziggler & Styles trade blows before Corbin clotheslines both of them. Corbin starts to beat down Ziggler and goes for the End of Days. but Styles saves Ziggler. Corbin clotheslines Ziggler down before hitting an STO on Styles before the commercial break. We come back to Corbin dominating again. Ziggler & Styles double team Corbin and clotheslining him out of the ring. Outside of the ring, the three brawl, where Corbin comes out on top and takes apart the announce table. Styles gives Corbin a Phenomenal Forearm and Ziggler gives him a superkick, causing him to lay out across the table. Ziggler & Styles scale the barricade and Styles hits a leg drop while Ziggler hits an elbow drop. Ziggler gives Styles an Uranage into the ring apron before hitting a jumping DDT back in the ring for a near fall. Ziggler goes for the Zig Zag, but Styles blocks it and hits a fireman's carry backbreaker and goes for the Styles Clash. Ziggler blocks it and counters the Phenomenal Forearm by kicking Styles legs out off the top rope before superkicking him for a near fall. Ziggler hits a neckbreaker and an elbow drop on Corbin for a near fall before Corbin hits the Deep Six, only for Styles to break up the pin. Styles & Corbin trade blows before Corbin hits the End of Days on Styles as Ziggler hits the Zig Zag on Corbin at the same time, but Ziggler only gets a near fall on Corbin. Corbin ends up hitting the End of Days on Ziggler, only for Styles to take him out with a Phenomenal Forearm and pin Ziggler for the win. Fantastic match, possibly one of the best of the year. After the match, John Cena runs down. Cena offers a handshake to Styles, and Styles shakes Cena's hand.

Worst in the World: The Last Rites Match-TNA Destination X 2007

(Special thanks to an anonymous user for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) An often discussed aspect of professional wrestling is the backstage politicking of Hulk Hogan. Throughout his career as a major attraction in wrestling, Hogan's philosophy has always been to protect Hulk Hogan...OK, sometimes he'd help Ed Leslie, but most of the time it was to protect Hulk Hogan. Because of that philosophy and Hogan's influence as a top guy, there have been multiple instances where a company's booking and other wrestlers have suffered as a result. Would having Mr. Perfect win the 1990 Royal Rumble made sense and could have elevated a rising star and potentially created a new main event player? Yes, but that would require Hogan to not win, and that doesn't work for Hogan, so he wins the Rumble even though he doesn't need elevating. Would booking Randy Orton to beat Hogan at SummerSlam 20

Worst in the World: The Gimmick Battle Royal-WrestleMania X-Seven

(Special thanks to Frost for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) WrestleMania X-Seven. Heavily considered the not just the best WrestleMania, but the greatest wrestling show of all time, WrestleMania X-Seven took place during the hottest period in the WWF's history, and features just about every one of the hottest acts in wrestling at the time. An undercard featuring the likes of Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, William Regal, Kane, and the Big Show. One of the biggest female stars in the history of wrestling in Chyna. A killer TLC match between the Dudley Boyz, the Hardy Boyz, and Edge & Christian. A wild brawl between The Undertaker and Triple H. A massive main event between Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock. Hell, even the father vs son Street Fight between Vince & Shane McMahon. It's a star-studded affair. However, there's one match that sticks out like

Worst in the World: D-Generation X vs Brothers of Destruction-Crown Jewel

This match didn't need to happen. After Triple H and the Undertaker had one of the most brutally bad matches of 2018 at Super Show-Down not even a month earlier, nobody wanted to see them try to wrestle again. Also, nobody wanted to see Shawn Michaels come out of retirement after his fantastic sendoff in 2010, especially for a match like this. But here we are, Triple H & Shawn Michaels facing The Undertaker & Kane in 2018. The combined ages of these four at the time is 206. That's a number you'd expect to see from a match at Heroes of Wrestling. And anyone can come up with their own reason as to why this match is happening, but that would just be ignoring the actual reason. For those of you who don't know, Crown Jewel was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. That might not seem like important information, but you can't really discuss this match without mentioning it. Despite the numerous reasons that running shows in Saudi Arabia is morally wrong (their abuse

Worst in the World: Nia Jax's Worst Matches

Click the link here to vote in the poll and help decide the next edition of the Worst in the World. Nia Jax's first run with the WWE can really only be described as hard to watch. Sure, she had a few stand-out matches, most notably (and surprisingly) her match with Ronda Rousey at Money in the Bank, and an underrated gem with Bayley at NXT TakeOver: London, but those were always outshined by her most infamous matches and moments. She's since returned to WWE and, for the most part, seems to have improved a bit, but the reputation she got from her initial run is gonna be hard to shake off. This week, I'll be looking at some of Jax's worst matches. These include just flat-out bad matches, and matches that have become infamous examples of her reckless in-ring work. Match #1: vs Charlotte Flair-April 10th, 2017 Raw The first match we'll be looking at is from the April 10, 2017 episode of Monday Night Raw, when Nia took on Charlotte Flair. The two had been on the losing e

Worst in the World: Carmella vs Asuka: How to Destroy an Aura

Throughout the entire history of the WWE, we've never seen, and probably will never see again, a woman booked as strong as Asuka was to start her run. Coming into WWE in 2015 with over a decade of experience wrestling in her native Japan as Kana, Asuka was immediately treated like a huge deal. Hell, even from the first time we saw her on a WWE broadcast, she was seated in the crowd of NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn next to two Hall of Famers in Ric Flair & Sgt. Slaughter. Officially debuting in October 2015, Asuka would go her entire NXT career, nearly two full years, without being pinned or submitted. She was booked so strong, in fact, that instead of dropping the NXT Women's Championship in what would be her last match in NXT at the time to Ember Moon (even after sustaining an injury), an act that is almost always the case for champions leaving NXT for the main roster, Asuka retained and later vacated the title, keeping her streak intact. For a company that is more than willing t
