Worst in the World: "Barack Obama" vs "Hillary Clinton"-Monday Night Raw (4/21/2008)

Well, it's Super Tuesday in the United States, the one day of every presidential election cycle where the most states hold their Democratic & Republican presidential primaries to pick which candidates will be the parties' nominees. With that in mind, what better time to talk about this...match...I guess. Back in 2007, WWE made the odd decision to book a match between "Donald Trump" and "Rosie O'Donnell", i.e., two independent wrestlers impersonating the two feuding public figures. The match has gone down as one of the absolute worst segments WWE has ever put on television, and is generally considered a massive waste of time devoid of entertainment...
...
...
...
Remember when they did it again...
Over a year after the Trump-Rosie match, WWE trotted out a few more impersonators to have another "match", this time to coincide with the 2008 Presidential Primaries. Then-senators Barack Obama of Illinois and Hillary Clinton of New York (who was also the former First Lady of the United States) were in the middle of a tight primary for the Democratic nomination. This primary included reaching out to the WWE audience. Yes, on the same episode WWE had two wrestlers impersonating them and (spoilers) had them get beat down by another wrestler, both Obama and Clinton, along with the Republican nominee John McCain, had pre-recorded videos addressing the audience play on the show. I can't imagine they were clued in on that beforehand. I'd assumed this was done in the lead-up to Super Tuesday 2008 (since the most people would be voting in primaries), but it actually wasn't. There was a primary the day after this Raw in Pennsylvania...this episode was broadcast from South Carolina. I don't know.
So yeah, it's Obama vs Clinton on Monday Night Raw. But this also begs the question of how WWE would play this. With Trump-Rosie, it's obvious why WWE would write the match they way they did, like frequently mocking Rosie's weight, based on the relationship between Trump and Vince McMahon and the company. McMahon clearly had a side in the feud. That's not the case for this match, as the McMahons are well-known Republicans. How would McMahon weigh in on something he doesn't have a side in? Let's take a look.
Lillian Garcia introduces Hillary first, describing her as a "devoted Hulkamaniac." Hillary, alongside another impersonator of her husband, former President Bill Clinton, enter to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme. The Hillary impersonator is portrayed here by Lexie Fyfe, an independent wrestling veteran who had wrestled for 13 years prior to this match. The Bill impersonator holds the ropes open for Hillary, only to stumble & fall trying to get in the ring himself. The Clintons both do Hogan's mannerisms before Hillary cuts a promo. Bill won't stop doing Hogan poses, however, frequently interrupting her before saying she and her superdelegates will run wild on you.
Obama's out next, entering to The Rock's theme. Obama's portrayed by another indy wrestler Deon Davis. His career didn't seem to be too prominent, as his Cagematch.net only lists nine matches over six years. Like with the Trump-Rosie match, this match isn't listed on Cagematch, but it is listed on the Internet Wrestling Database. The Obama impersonator also comes out with giant, oversized ears.
He also decided to just do a bad impression of The Rock more-so than an Obama impression. Bill decides to interrupt Obama and tell him what he thinks, only for Obama to say "IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YOU THINK!"
Before the match, the referee tries to check Obama's ears for weapons, while Bill objects to him checking Hillary because "she doesn't even let him touch her." The bell rings and Obama charges in, only for Hillary to get a double-leg takedown. Hillary punches away at Obama, but Obama quickly throws her off. Hillary follows up with a bodyslam and a leg drop before making the cover, but Obama kicks out. Obama fires back with a knee to the gut and a Rock Bottom before setting up for the People's Elbow. Obama hits the ropes, only for Bill to reach in and trip him.
With both wrestlers down, the referee starts to count them both out, only for Umaga's music to hit. Umaga comes down to the ring as Bill checks on Hillary. Without Umaga doing anything, the referee calls for the bell to end the match. Umaga then hits the Samoan Spike on Obama, prompting Bill to try and celebrate with him. Umaga screams at Bill, prompting Bill to flee from the ring. Umaga then picks up Hillary and hits a Samoan Drop. Umaga stands tall to close out the segment.

The Verdict

It's literally a nothing segment. They do their "big" moves and then it ends. It's nowhere near as bad as Trump vs Rosie, probably because it's half as long, but it's still not an enjoyable watch.

  1. Starrcade 94 was a pretty awful show as it showed how much of an iron grip Hulk Hogan had in WCW. From Jim Duggan dominating Vader, Mr T wrestling Kevin Sullivan and Brutus Beefcake main eventing WCW's equivalent to Wrestlemania.

    Jimm Duggan vs Vader
    Alex Wright vs Jean-Paul Levesque
Johnny B Badd vs Arn Anderson
    Nasty Boys vs Harlem Heat

Worst in the World: The Gimmick Battle Royal-WrestleMania X-Seven

(Special thanks to Frost for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) WrestleMania X-Seven. Heavily considered the not just the best WrestleMania, but the greatest wrestling show of all time, WrestleMania X-Seven took place during the hottest period in the WWF's history, and features just about every one of the hottest acts in wrestling at the time. An undercard featuring the likes of Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, William Regal, Kane, and the Big Show. One of the biggest female stars in the history of wrestling in Chyna. A killer TLC match between the Dudley Boyz, the Hardy Boyz, and Edge & Christian. A wild brawl between The Undertaker and Triple H. A massive main event between Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock. Hell, even the father vs son Street Fight between Vince & Shane McMahon. It's a star-studded affair. However, there's one match that sticks out like

Worst in the World: The Last Rites Match-TNA Destination X 2007

(Special thanks to an anonymous user for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) An often discussed aspect of professional wrestling is the backstage politicking of Hulk Hogan. Throughout his career as a major attraction in wrestling, Hogan's philosophy has always been to protect Hulk Hogan...OK, sometimes he'd help Ed Leslie, but most of the time it was to protect Hulk Hogan. Because of that philosophy and Hogan's influence as a top guy, there have been multiple instances where a company's booking and other wrestlers have suffered as a result. Would having Mr. Perfect win the 1990 Royal Rumble made sense and could have elevated a rising star and potentially created a new main event player? Yes, but that would require Hogan to not win, and that doesn't work for Hogan, so he wins the Rumble even though he doesn't need elevating. Would booking Randy Orton to beat Hogan at SummerSlam 20

Worst in the World: D-Generation X vs Brothers of Destruction-Crown Jewel

This match didn't need to happen. After Triple H and the Undertaker had one of the most brutally bad matches of 2018 at Super Show-Down not even a month earlier, nobody wanted to see them try to wrestle again. Also, nobody wanted to see Shawn Michaels come out of retirement after his fantastic sendoff in 2010, especially for a match like this. But here we are, Triple H & Shawn Michaels facing The Undertaker & Kane in 2018. The combined ages of these four at the time is 206. That's a number you'd expect to see from a match at Heroes of Wrestling. And anyone can come up with their own reason as to why this match is happening, but that would just be ignoring the actual reason. For those of you who don't know, Crown Jewel was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. That might not seem like important information, but you can't really discuss this match without mentioning it. Despite the numerous reasons that running shows in Saudi Arabia is morally wrong (their abuse

Worst in the World: What is the Worst Wrestling Match of All Time?

Note: This series is based off a YouTube series " The Search for the Worst " by I Hate Everything, where he reviews every movie on IMDB's Bottom 100. It's a great, funny series and I'd recommend checking it out. Have you ever just thought to yourself "What is the worst match of all time?"? I don't mean something like a boring John Cena-Randy Orton match, I mean a match where the wrestlers have zero chemistry, little wrestling ability, or literally no idea what they are actually doing. I've thought about this for a while, and I've decided to finally figure it out. So I'm going to watch any match that is: a) A winner of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Award for the Worst Worked Match of the Year. or:  b) Listed on the 100 worst rated wrestling matches of all time on the Internet Wrestling Database .   (Note: Some matches appear on awards that aren't on the list.) There are 115 (EDIT: Now 99)  matches on here. I pu

Worst in the World: Trash at the Beach

Click the link here to vote in the poll and help decide the next edition of the Worst in the World. Just over a month ago, I briefly covered the massive success the WWF was having in 1999. Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock are at the top of the card. Triple H is on the rise to the main event. Mankind is playing the ultimate likable & respected babyface. Names like the Undertaker, Kane, and the Big Show are all major players. The undercard is stacked with big names like D-Generation X, D'Lo Brown, and Ken Shamrock, rising stars like The Hardy Boyz and Edge & Christian, and new signings like Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho, and the Dudley Boyz. The WWF was so red hot in 1999 that even an all-time bad WrestleMania in WrestleMania XV couldn't slow them down. But there was one other factor that made 1999 such a good year for the WWF; the fact that their main competitor, WCW, was beginning to crack. At the same time the WWF was reaching the highest heights they'd ever reache
