My Thoughts on RAW (6/12/17): I Need A Cigarette

  • We kick off the show with Brock Lesnar & Paul Heyman. Heyman says today is Samoa Joe's day of reckoning and Brock Lesnar will administer it. Heyman says he showed Joe respect last week, only for Joe to attack him unprovoked. He says Lesnar now has a problem with Joe that he plans to solve  He says he thought Samoa Joe was the worst case scenario and says Joe is the only Samoan that all the other Samoan want nothing to do with. He says Joe will never be able to lock in the Coquina Clutch on Brock Lesnar before Joe comes out. Lesnar challenges Joe to get in the ring, which Joe does. The two go face to face before Joe headbutts Lesnar. The two brawl before Kurt Angle runs out and sends security & referees to separate them. Lesnar & Joe easily get rid of them, so Angle brings out the entire RAW roster to separate them.
  • Elias Samson sings a song about how Louisiana sucks and Dean Ambrose. He is interrupted by Ambrose because they have a match.
  • Elias Samson vs Dean Ambrose-The two fight into the corner before Ambrose locks in a hammerlock. Samson fights out and the two go back and forth before Ambrose hits a spinning back elbow. Samson rolls out of the ring before the commercial break. We come back to Samson flooring Ambrose with a clothesline for a near fall. Samson controls the match before Ambrose fires up and clotheslines Samson. Ambrose hits a fisherman's suplex for a near fall and goes for a bulldog, but Samson blocks it and hits a big boot. Ambrose manages to send a charging Samson out of the ring before hitting a suicide dive. Back in the ring, Ambrose goes to the top rope, but Samson meets him there. Samson goes for a superplex, but Ambrose knocks him down. Suddenly, the Miz runs down and distracts Ambrose, allowing Samson to roll up Ambrose for a near fall. Ambrose is able to hit the Lunatic Lariat before going out after Miz. Ambrose almost gets counted out going after Miz, only for Samson to drop a knee on him when he gets back into the ring. Samson finishes Ambrose off with a rolling cutter (not a swinging neckbreaker like Michael Cole says) for the three and the win. I thought this was a pretty solid match. Samson's been pretty impressive in the ring since he's debuted.
  • In a Shattered Dream production, Goldust says that R-Truth was jealous & scared, so he turned on him before he could. He says nobody understands and that nothing lasts forever...unless you're made of gold. He ends by saying the Golden Age is back.
  • Backstage, Kurt Angle confronts The Miz & Maryse. He says Ambrose ruined his celebration last week and Maryse is still mad at him for destroying the grandfather clock. He blames Angle for allowing Ambrose back into the building and tells him to do something about him. Angle says he's not going to do anything about Ambrose and tells Miz that if he has a problem, he should do it himself.
  • Cedric Alexander confronts Noam Dar in the locker room. He says he's done with him & "his ratchet ex-girlfriend" Alicia Fox. It turns out Dar is face-timing with Fox, who is at home recovering from a neck injury. She says seeing Dar kick Alexander's face in will make her happy before Alexander says this ends tonight.
  • Cedric Alexander vs Noam Dar with Alicia Fox...via FaceTime-Dar comes out with his phone as Fox is face-timing him. She actually ends up appearing on the TitanTron so people can see & hear her.
The two argue as Fox tells Dar to prop her up so she can see the match. He ends up just putting the phone down before walking right into the Lumbar Check by Alexander, who gets the three and the quick win.
  • Bray Wyatt cuts a promo. He says the world is ending and he is the only one who can save it. He then comes out to the ring and says that those who deny him will be judged and those who blaspheme his name will be punished, just as Seth Rollins was last week. He runs down Rollins and says that if you take his name in vain, you will fall. Rollins comes out and mocks Wyatt for targeting him because he called him a few names. He says Wyatt is a false martyr and people like him don't like to hear the truth. He calls Wyatt a coward and dares Wyatt to prove him wrong. Wyatt laughs at him and says Rollins is beneath him. He says his power is more than Rollins can fathom before the lights go out. When the come back on, Wyatt is gone. They go out again, and Wyatt appears on the TitanTron. He says Rollins might be able to slay a king, but a God lives forever.
  • Charly Caruso interviews the Hardy Boyz. Matt says they have a daunting task in front of them, but when they have a daunting task in front of them, they climb it and jump off of it. They say that if Sheamus & Cesaro are the bar, they are going to break it.
  • Kalisto vs Apollo Crews with Titus O'Neil-We find out that Titus O'Neil has given Akira Tozawa a front row seat to RAW tonight. Kalisto kicks off with a tilt-a-whirl headscissor takedown, but Crews catches him on a handstand with a basement dropkick for a near fall. Crews hits a snap suplex for a near fall as Titus yells at Tozawa. Crews controls the match before Kalisto hits an up kick before hitting a springboard hurricanrana. Kalisto follows up with a hurricanrana to a kneeling Crews for a near fall, only for Titus to distract Kalisto. Crews rolls up Kalisto for a near fall before catching Kalisto off a handspring right into a spin-out powerbomb for the three and the win. After the match, Titus picks Tozawa out of the crowd like a small child and takes him to the ring, where he, Crews, and Tozawa take a selfie together. So...is Crews a heel? Because he seems to go back and forth on his alignment.
  • Heath Slater & Rhyno are eating cheese & crackers before Miz & Maryse approach them. He says they've fallen off since coming to RAW before offering Slater a spot in his entourage. Rhyno says he's already got a partner, but Miz reminds Slater that he got him a role in the Marine 5 and says he can make him a star. Slater says that one of his dreams as a kid was to become Intercontinental Champion, so Miz promises a shot at the title some day if he joins him. Rhyno again points out that Slater already has a partner and says Miz should find a partner because he's going to get Angle to book a tag match between him & Slater and Miz and his partner if he finds one. Rhyno then aggressively eats crackers.
  • Alexa Bliss comes out for a promo. She says she has no obligation to defend her title tonight before being interrupted by Nia Jax. Jax gets in her face, causing Bliss to change her tone. She says she was glad to defend her title against Jax and that she wanted to have a classic match with her, blaming Mickie James & Dana Brooke for ruining their match. Mickie & Dana come out, with Mickie saying that she's better than Bliss because she's held more titles than her. Mickie & Dana point out that Bliss tried to get them on her side against Nia. Bliss says Mickie & Dana are lying to get attention before Emma comes out and says she's back and ready to take her place at the top of the women's division. Bliss says Emma, Mickie, and Dana are trying to take her & Nia's spotlight before Sasha Banks comes out. She says being the champion means proving you are the best day in and day out, but Bliss is backing down right now. She then attacks Bliss, leading to a brawl between all six women. Naturally, this leads to...
  • Alexa Bliss, Nia Jax, and Emma vs Sasha Banks, Mickie James, and Dana Brooke-The match started during the commercial break. We come back to Bliss working over Dana. The heels control the match until Dana dodges a big boot from Emma and tags in Sasha. Sasha runs through Emma before throwing her into Nia Jax. Sasha goes for the Bank Statement, but Emma blocks it. Emma tries to tag in Bliss, but Bliss drops off the apron and walks up the ramp. Sasha hits a neckbreaker on Emma, but Nia breaks up the fall. Mickie takes out Nia, sending her out of the ring before diving onto her. Emma rolls up Sasha, but Sasha turns it into the Bank Statement for the submission win.
  • Corey Graves has a sit-down interview with Bayley. She says she wasn't ready for the match at Extreme Rules, saying she's not here to bruise people, she's here to put smiles on people's faces. Graves questions if you can be successful with that attitude, but Bayley says she's not going to change for anyone, she's going be herself. She says that she wants to be the best and recapture the RAW Women's Championship so she can walk into WrestleMania again as the champ. She asks to end the interview on a hug, which they do. Graves then says he needs a cigarette.
  • Heath Slater & Rhyno vs The Miz & ?-Well...Miz got a partner...it's the bear. The beat from last week that Miz beat up. Miz tries to get a Slater to help him beat up the bear, but Slater rejects the offer. Slater hits two arm drags before tagging in Rhyno. Rhyno runs through Miz before tagging Slater back in. Slater back body drops Miz before the bear tags himself in. Slater tries to take the bear's head off, but the pair keeps slapping him. The bear locks in a bear hug until  Rhyno saves him. The bear tags Miz back in, so Miz attacks him. Miz unmasks the bear, revealing him to be...some guy. Rhyno brings Miz back, only for the bear to spring up and hit Dirty Deeds on Slater. The bear unmasks again, revealing him to be Dean Ambrose. Ambrose chases Miz into Maryse, who falls off the apron. Maryse walks to the back as Ambrose hits Dirty Deeds on Miz. Ambrose throws Slater onto Miz for the three and the win for Slater & Rhyno.
  • Rich Swann vs Neville-Neville attacks Swann before the bell, beating him down before locking him in the Rings of Saturn. Neville takes to the mic and lists off the names of the wrestlers he's beaten. He kicks Swann out of the ring before saying that it feels good to be the king...or does it? He asks how many more men does he have to beat before he gets the respect he deserves before calling out Akira Tozawa, telling him to tread carefully or bow before the king.
  • Charly Caruso interviews Sheamus & Cesaro. Cesaro says he's been studying up on the Hardy Boyz by reading their book "Exist to Inspire". Sheamus calls their book ridiculous and says they are the ones who inspire people. They end by saying tonight, they'll inspire the Hardy Boyz to retire.
  • Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson vs Enzo Amore & Big Cass-Enzo & Cass don't come out when their music hits because Big Cass got laid out backstage again. You can see the Revival in the background before Enzo shows up. Enzo says he'll find a replacement, but Cass says he wants to wrestle still. Anderson & Gallows mock Cass for getting jumped backstage, only for Enzo & Cass to come out this time. Cass is able to hold is own, but is clearly in bad shape, selling the attack after every move. Cass eventually tags in Enzo, who holds his own for a bit until he eats a single leg dropkick from Anderson. Enzo tries to tag out, but Cass is still recovering outside the ring. Gallows & Anderson hit the Magic Killer for the three and the win. After the match, Gallows & Anderson go for it again, only for Big Show to come down to make the save. Gallows & Anderson run off to the back before Big Show hugs Enzo as Cass recovers and sees it.
  • In a Truth Be Told production, R-Truth says Goldust stabbed him in the back and he won't let that slide.
  • Backstage, Enzo thanks Big Show for saving him, but questions if he is the one who keeps attacking him & Cass. Big Show says this is Cass implying that and says Cass is S-A-W-F-T.
  • Mike Rome interviews Samoa Joe. He says Brock Lesnar is playing right into his strategy. He says Lesnar didn't sweat him until after last week when he attacked Paul Heyman. He says Lesnar came out tonight to tell everyone that this was his yard, so he went out there to show him what he'll do to him at Great Balls of Fire. He says that at Great Balls of Fire, he'll become the Universal Champion.
  • Sheamus & Cesaro (c) vs The Hardy Boyz in a 2-out-of-3 Falls match-RAW Tag Team  Championships-Sheamus goes for a Brogue Kick right away, but Matt Hardy dodges it and hits a bulldog for a near fall. The Hardyz hit Poetry in Motion before Matt hits the Side Effect and Jeff hits a splash, but Cesaro breaks up the fall. Matt sends Cesaro to the outside as Jeff goes for the Twist of Fate. Cesaro yanks Matt off the apron as Sheamus counters the Twist of Fate and catches Jeff with a Brogue Kick when he tries to leap over him in the corner. Sheamus makes the cover and gets the three, giving him & Cesaro the first fall before the commercial break. We come back to Sheamus working over Jeff Hardy with a headlock. Hardy fights out, but Sheamus catches him with an Irish Curse Backbreaker for a near fall. Sheamus goes for the Cloverleaf, but Hardy blocks it and kicks Sheamus out of the ring. Matt gets the hot tag and runs through Cesaro, ramming him face first into the turnbuckles before going for a bulldog. Cesaro blocks it, but Hardy is able to hit a tornado DDT for a near fall. Hardy takes out Sheamus with a Side Effect on the apron before hitting the Twist of Fate on Cesaro for the three, evening it up at a fall apiece. Hardy tries for a quick pin, but Cesaro kicks out. Cesaro blocks another Twist of Fate and catches Hardy with an uppercut. Sheamus tags in and knocks Jeff off the apron before hitting a high knee on Matt for a near fall. Cesaro tags in for the assisted White Noise, but Jeff Hardy breaks up the fall. Cesaro goes for the Neutralizer, but Hardy blocks it, only Cesaro to roll through and lock in the Sharpshooter. The hold is broken when Matt grabs the bottom rope. Puns. Hardy almost gets the win off a small package before hitting a clothesline. Jeff Hardy & Sheamus tag in and Hardy runs wild, hitting an inverted atomic drop and a double leg drop before hitting the Twist of Fate, only for Cesaro to break up the fall. Cesaro & Matt Hardy fight outside the ring as Sheamus launches Jeff Hardy onto the top rope. Cesaro catches Jeff with an uppercut when he hangs across the middle rope before Sheamus rolls him up, but Jeff kicks out. Cesaro & Matt continue to fight at ringside before Jeff knocks down Sheamus and hits the Swanton Bomb. Hardy makes the cover, only for Cesaro to pull Sheamus out of the ring. Hardy dives off the apron onto Sheamus & Cesaro before all four men brawl outside the ring. The referee counts both teams out, ending the match in a draw. The two teams continue to brawl at ringside before Jeff Hardy dives off the top rope onto Sheamus & Cesaro to close the show.

Worst in the World: The Last Rites Match-TNA Destination X 2007

(Special thanks to an anonymous user for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) An often discussed aspect of professional wrestling is the backstage politicking of Hulk Hogan. Throughout his career as a major attraction in wrestling, Hogan's philosophy has always been to protect Hulk Hogan...OK, sometimes he'd help Ed Leslie, but most of the time it was to protect Hulk Hogan. Because of that philosophy and Hogan's influence as a top guy, there have been multiple instances where a company's booking and other wrestlers have suffered as a result. Would having Mr. Perfect win the 1990 Royal Rumble made sense and could have elevated a rising star and potentially created a new main event player? Yes, but that would require Hogan to not win, and that doesn't work for Hogan, so he wins the Rumble even though he doesn't need elevating. Would booking Randy Orton to beat Hogan at SummerSlam 20

Worst in the World: The Gimmick Battle Royal-WrestleMania X-Seven

(Special thanks to Frost for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) WrestleMania X-Seven. Heavily considered the not just the best WrestleMania, but the greatest wrestling show of all time, WrestleMania X-Seven took place during the hottest period in the WWF's history, and features just about every one of the hottest acts in wrestling at the time. An undercard featuring the likes of Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, William Regal, Kane, and the Big Show. One of the biggest female stars in the history of wrestling in Chyna. A killer TLC match between the Dudley Boyz, the Hardy Boyz, and Edge & Christian. A wild brawl between The Undertaker and Triple H. A massive main event between Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock. Hell, even the father vs son Street Fight between Vince & Shane McMahon. It's a star-studded affair. However, there's one match that sticks out like

Worst in the World: D-Generation X vs Brothers of Destruction-Crown Jewel

This match didn't need to happen. After Triple H and the Undertaker had one of the most brutally bad matches of 2018 at Super Show-Down not even a month earlier, nobody wanted to see them try to wrestle again. Also, nobody wanted to see Shawn Michaels come out of retirement after his fantastic sendoff in 2010, especially for a match like this. But here we are, Triple H & Shawn Michaels facing The Undertaker & Kane in 2018. The combined ages of these four at the time is 206. That's a number you'd expect to see from a match at Heroes of Wrestling. And anyone can come up with their own reason as to why this match is happening, but that would just be ignoring the actual reason. For those of you who don't know, Crown Jewel was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. That might not seem like important information, but you can't really discuss this match without mentioning it. Despite the numerous reasons that running shows in Saudi Arabia is morally wrong (their abuse

Worst in the World: Nia Jax's Worst Matches

Click the link here to vote in the poll and help decide the next edition of the Worst in the World. Nia Jax's first run with the WWE can really only be described as hard to watch. Sure, she had a few stand-out matches, most notably (and surprisingly) her match with Ronda Rousey at Money in the Bank, and an underrated gem with Bayley at NXT TakeOver: London, but those were always outshined by her most infamous matches and moments. She's since returned to WWE and, for the most part, seems to have improved a bit, but the reputation she got from her initial run is gonna be hard to shake off. This week, I'll be looking at some of Jax's worst matches. These include just flat-out bad matches, and matches that have become infamous examples of her reckless in-ring work. Match #1: vs Charlotte Flair-April 10th, 2017 Raw The first match we'll be looking at is from the April 10, 2017 episode of Monday Night Raw, when Nia took on Charlotte Flair. The two had been on the losing e

Worst in the World: Carmella vs Asuka: How to Destroy an Aura

Throughout the entire history of the WWE, we've never seen, and probably will never see again, a woman booked as strong as Asuka was to start her run. Coming into WWE in 2015 with over a decade of experience wrestling in her native Japan as Kana, Asuka was immediately treated like a huge deal. Hell, even from the first time we saw her on a WWE broadcast, she was seated in the crowd of NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn next to two Hall of Famers in Ric Flair & Sgt. Slaughter. Officially debuting in October 2015, Asuka would go her entire NXT career, nearly two full years, without being pinned or submitted. She was booked so strong, in fact, that instead of dropping the NXT Women's Championship in what would be her last match in NXT at the time to Ember Moon (even after sustaining an injury), an act that is almost always the case for champions leaving NXT for the main roster, Asuka retained and later vacated the title, keeping her streak intact. For a company that is more than willing t
