My Thoughts on RAW (6/26/17): Balls to the Wall

  • We kick off the show with Roman Reigns. The crowd instantly breaks out in "We Want Strowman" chants before Reigns says Braun Strowman is a coward who attacked him after he had been knocked out by Samoa Joe. He accepts Strowman's challenge to face him in an Ambulance match at Great Balls of Fire, saying he's going to put him in that ambulance and drive him straight to hell. Suddenly, an ambulance pulls up next to the stage. Reigns goes to investigate and opens the back door, revealing...nothing. Strowman then comes out and attacks Reigns from behind. Strowman throws Reigns onto the stage and the two brawl. Reigns tries to Superman Punch Strowman off the edge, but Strowman catches him and throws him into the side of the ambulance. Strowman picks up Reigns and throws him into the back before the ambulance drives off.
  • Elias Samson prepares to sing a song with Sheamus & Cesaro. It's a shame there's not a fourth person with them, then they could be the barbershop quartet...get it...cause Sheamus & Cesaro always say they're the bar...please don't leave. They are interrupted before they can start by the Hardy Boyz & Finn Balor.
  • Elias Samson, Sheamus, and Cesaro vs Finn Balor & The Hardy Boyz-Matt Hardy & Sheamus start the match with Sheamus beating down Hardy in the corner. Matt is able to get him to his team's corner and tags in Jeff for Poetry in Motion. Cesaro runs in to take a double suplex before the commercial break. We come back Sheamus beating down Jeff Hardy in his team's corner. Jeff is able to bring Cesaro over to his team's corner and tags in Balor, who hits a basement dropkick for a near fall. Cesaro drops Balor onto the apron and tags in Sheamus for 10 Beats of the Bodhran. The heels beat down Balor until Balor escapes a backbreaker rack by Sheamus and tags in Jeff Hardy. Hardy runs through Sheamus and goes for the Twist of Fate, but Sheamus blocks it, only to go shoulder-first into the ring post after Hardy dodges him in the corner. Jeff goes to the top for the Swanton Bomb, but Cesaro pulls Sheamus out of the ring. Hardy dives onto both of them and throws Sheamus back in the ring, but gets caught with a high knee from Sheamus. Sheamus makes the cover, but Jeff gets his foot on the ropes before the commercial break. We come back to Samson flooring Jeff Hardy with a clothesline. The heels beat down Jeff until Jeff hits the Twist of Fate on Sheamus. Matt Hardy gets the hot tag and runs wild on Samson, ramming his head into the every turnbuckle before hitting a bulldog and the Side Effect, but Sheamus breaks up the fall. Cesaro throws Matt into the turnbuckle shoulder first before hitting an assisted-White Noise with Sheamus, but Balor breaks up the fall. Matt hits a jawbreaker on Cesaro and tags in Balor, who runs through all the heels before hitting a somersault plancha onto Sheamus & Cesaro. Balor follows up with a Sling Blade on Cesaro in the ring and a dropkick into the corner before going for the Coup de Grace. The Hardys take out Sheamus & Samson as Balor hits the Coup de Grace on Cesaro for the three and the win. Pretty good opening match...Oh, Josh Duhamel showed up on commentary too...so that happened.
  • In a Shattered Dreams production, Goldust says there's magic in the air and says the Shattered Truth hits Hollywood tonight.
  • Goldust vs R-Truth-Goldust comes out in his classic attire with his own personal camera man. Goldust keeps his camera man between him & Truth, only to blindside truth when the referee tells the cameraman to get out of the ring. The cameraman keeps filming as Goldust continues to beat down Truth
  • Charly Caruso interviews Paul Heyman. Heyman says Brock Lesnar will be here tonight and he'll call out Samoa Joe for a fight. Suddenly, Joe shows up and wraps his arms around Heyman's neck. However, Joe doesn't lock in the Coquina Clutch and tells him that the Coquina Clutch is meant for Lesnar tonight.
  • Bayley, Sasha Banks, Emma, Mickie James, Dana Brooke, and Nia Jax will face off in a gauntlet match tonight, with the winner facing Alexa Bliss for the RAW Women's Championship. We see Bayley picking her number out of a tumbler.
  • It's time for MizTV. Miz tries to kiss Maryse, but she turns away from him. Miz then brings out his first guests, Lavar & LaMelo Ball. I mean, I don't like Lavar Ball and his nonsense...but this is perfect. I mean, who in the world is more hilariously nuts than Lavar "I can beat Michael Jordan one-on-one despite averaging 2.2 points in collage" Ball. I mean...just look at this entrance.
Would you expect anything less from a man who wants people to pay almost 500 dollars for shoes? Lavar then brings out the newest member of the Los Angeles Lakers, Lonzo Ball. They must've left LiAngelo at home. Miz that says a partnership between him & the Big Baller Brand, but Lavar says he's not on the level of the Big Baller Brand. Miz & Lavar go back and forth on the mic before Miz says he's the Michael Jordan of the WWE. Lavar tells Miz to stay in his lane and even takes off his shirt and does fake X-Pac karate.
Eventually, Dean Ambrose comes out in a Big Baller Brand t-shirt. That should be instant heel heat. Also, I'm not even kidding, LaMelo Ball yelled into the mic "BEAT THAT N***A ASS!". Twice. On live TV. And it wasn't censored. Dear God, Kevin Dunn was slacking. And that's...just kind of how the segment ends. Ambrose says some stuff about balls and getting a free t-shirt, which is obviously a lie because Lavar Ball charges almost 500 dollars for shoes, you think he's giving away a free t-shirt.
  • Dean Ambrose, Rhyno, and Heath Slater vs The Miztourage-That's what they kept calling it on commentary. The babyfaces start off in control until Curtis Axel forces Rhyno into his team's corner. Rhyno starts to mount some offense when Miz tags in, only to get whipped into the corner hard. The heels control the match until Rhyno floors Axel with a clothesline. Ambrose tags in and runs through Axel before hitting a neckbreaker on Miz and a bulldog on Axel. Ambrose goes for Dirty Deeds on Miz, but Miz avoids, only to get thrown out of the ring by Slater & Rhyno before the commercial break. We come back to Axel working over Slater with an armbar. The Miztourage controls the match until Slater hits a heel kick on Miz. Rhyno gets the hot tag and runs through Bo Dallas before hitting a spinebuster, but Miz breaks up the fall. Ambrose chases Miz around the ring as Axel cheap shots Rhyno, allowing Dallas to roll up Rhyno for the three and the win. Fine match, nothing special.
  • Outcomes Enzo Amore. He says he's not doing alright before saying he's been trying to contact Big Cass all week, but he's gotten nothing. He says they need to talk right now, so Cass comes out with the same entrance music as Enzo. He says he knows that getting booed hurts Cass and says Cass is right about a lot of the things he said. He says he bites off more than he can chew sometimes, but that was alright because he had Cass with him. He says Cass is his brother not just in wrestling, but in life. He says what happened last week is in the past and he still wants to be Cass' tag partner and win the Tag Team Championships. Cass takes the mic and says Enzo never knows when to shut up, but says he's ashamed of what he did. He knows he can't change Enzo, but he accepts who he is. He apologizes for everything he said & did and extends a hand. The two shake hands & hug and says that if anyone really thought they would split, then they are S-A-W-F-T. The two leave the ring together and walk up the stage, only for Cass to clothesline Enzo down. Cass then presses Enzo and tosses him down the ramp before walking off.
  • After the commercial break, Cass comes out to the commentary table and threatens Corey Graves, telling him to stay out of his business.
  • Seth Rollins vs Curt Hawkins-Hawkins starts off in control, getting a near fall of a back suplex and another of another suplex. Rollins eventually kicks Hawkins to the outside and hits a suicide dive. Back in the ring, Rollins hits a Sling Blade followed by a Blockbuster and a springboard clothesline. Rollins goes for a superkick, but Hawkins blocks it and rolls up Rollins, only for Rollins to roll through and hit the superkick. Rollins finishes Hawkins off with the Rain-Trigger for the three and the win. After the match, Bray Wyatt appears on the screen and says...stuff. He tells Rollins to give in to his true self and that he'll save Rollins.
  • In the parking lot, we see Brock Lesnar arriving to RAW.
  • Paul Heyman is in the ring for a promo. He says Samoa Joe is the only person who doesn't fear Brock Lesnar and that he's a dumbass for not fearing Lesnar. He brings out Brock Lesnar, only for Joe to attack Lesnar from behind. Joe tries to lock in the Coquina Clutch, but Lesnar is able to stop him by ramming him into the mini-tron. However, Joe keeps a hold off Lesnar as Lesnar's face goes completely pink. Other wrestlers pull Joe off of Lesnar and take him to the back. This match is going to be awesome. It better be awesome. I'll be super disappointed if it's not awesome.
  • Lince Dorado vs Neville-Akira Tozawa is at ringside in what the commentators called the "Titus Section." That reminds me, how did they not capitalize and have Titus O'Neil meet Lavar Ball. Titus Brand meets the Big Baller Brand. For shame, WWE. For shame. Neville takes control right from the start and keeps control until Dorado dropkicks Neville out of the ring. Dorado hits a somersault tope and brings Neville back in the ring for a diving crossbody, but Neville kicks out. Neville then kicks Dorado down and locks in the Rings of Saturn for the submission win. After the match, Tozawa gets in the ring and it looks like a fight is about to start, but Titus O'Neil comes out and says that they shouldn't fight for free because he finalized a deal to have them face off at Great Balls of Fire for the Cruiserweight Championship.
  • Charly Caruso interviews Paul Heyman again. He says everything he's said about Samoa Joe is true and criticizes Joe for attacking Lesnar from behind. He says that if Joe locks in the Coquina Clutch at Great Balls of Fire, then Lesnar has a problem, but Lesnar will retain the Universal Championship at Great Balls of Fire.
  • Nia Jax walks out of Kurt Angle's office before Alexa Bliss walks up to her. She says she and Nia have a lot in common with everyone judging them and that there's not a single woman in the match tonight who can drag her down. She wishes Nia good luck, but Nia says she doesn't need luck and that she'll see her at Great Balls of Fire.
  • RAW Women's Championship #1 Contenders Gauntlet Match
    • Bayley vs Nia Jax-Bayley starts off with forearms to Nia's face. Nia responds by picking up Bayley and hitting Snake Eyes. Nia follows up by working over Bayley in the corner & in the ropes before Bayley hits a knee strike through the ropes. Bayley goes to the top rope and hits an elbow drop to the back of Nia's head, but Nia kicks out. Bayley stomps away at a floored Nia before Nia boots Bayley into the corner. Bayley goes back to the top rope, but Nia knocks her down to the mat and hits the Samoan Drop for the three and the elimination.
    • Nia Jax vs Mickie James-This portion of the match starts during the commercial break. We come back to Nia throwing Mickie across the ring. Nia controls the match until Mickie kicks away at Nia. Mickie goes to the top rope for a diving Thesz Press for a near fall before hitting the Mick Kick. Mickie goes for the Mickie-DT, but Nia blocks it and hits a body block for the three and the elimination.
    • Nia Jax vs Dana Brooke-Nia quickly throws Dana into the corner and pushes Dana out of the way when she goes for a handspring back elbow. Nia hits the leg drop for the three and the elimination.
    • Nia Jax vs Emma-Emma manages to hit two basement dropkicks for a near fall before going for a crossbody off the top rope, but Nia catches her and hits a Samoan Drop for the three and the elimination.
    • Nia Jax vs Sasha Banks-Sasha takes the fight right to Nia and hits a jawbreaker before slapping Nia. Sasha sends Nia out of the ring and goes for a suicide dive, but Nia catches her. Nia tries for the Samoan Drop, but Sasha slips out and shoves Nia into the ring post. Sasha hits a seated senton off the apron before the commercial break. We come back to Nia working over Sasha with a headlock. Nia controls the match, brutally beating her down and constantly throwing her out of the ring to try to get a countout win. However, Sasha keeps fighting and getting back in the ring for more. Sasha is able to dodge a leg drop and hits a basement knee strike. Sasha is able to lock in a standing Bank Statement, but Nia powers out and hits a Samoan Drop. Sasha rolls under the bottom rope, prevent a pin attempt, so Nia tries for the Samoan Drop again. Sasha blocks it and is able to lock in the Bank Statement while on Nia's back. Nia collapses to her knees and finally taps out, giving Sasha Banks the submission win. Nia looked like a beast running through all the women on the roster, and Nia vs Sasha was great. Made Sasha look like a valiant, vigilant babyface who fought till the end and came out on top. After the match, Kurt Angle comes out and raises Sasha's hand. Alexa Bliss then comes out and goes face to face with Sasha, only for Sasha to dropkick her out of the ring and hold up the RAW Women's Championship.

Worst in the World: The Gimmick Battle Royal-WrestleMania X-Seven

(Special thanks to Frost for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) WrestleMania X-Seven. Heavily considered the not just the best WrestleMania, but the greatest wrestling show of all time, WrestleMania X-Seven took place during the hottest period in the WWF's history, and features just about every one of the hottest acts in wrestling at the time. An undercard featuring the likes of Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, William Regal, Kane, and the Big Show. One of the biggest female stars in the history of wrestling in Chyna. A killer TLC match between the Dudley Boyz, the Hardy Boyz, and Edge & Christian. A wild brawl between The Undertaker and Triple H. A massive main event between Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock. Hell, even the father vs son Street Fight between Vince & Shane McMahon. It's a star-studded affair. However, there's one match that sticks out like

Worst in the World: The Last Rites Match-TNA Destination X 2007

(Special thanks to an anonymous user for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) An often discussed aspect of professional wrestling is the backstage politicking of Hulk Hogan. Throughout his career as a major attraction in wrestling, Hogan's philosophy has always been to protect Hulk Hogan...OK, sometimes he'd help Ed Leslie, but most of the time it was to protect Hulk Hogan. Because of that philosophy and Hogan's influence as a top guy, there have been multiple instances where a company's booking and other wrestlers have suffered as a result. Would having Mr. Perfect win the 1990 Royal Rumble made sense and could have elevated a rising star and potentially created a new main event player? Yes, but that would require Hogan to not win, and that doesn't work for Hogan, so he wins the Rumble even though he doesn't need elevating. Would booking Randy Orton to beat Hogan at SummerSlam 20

Worst in the World: D-Generation X vs Brothers of Destruction-Crown Jewel

This match didn't need to happen. After Triple H and the Undertaker had one of the most brutally bad matches of 2018 at Super Show-Down not even a month earlier, nobody wanted to see them try to wrestle again. Also, nobody wanted to see Shawn Michaels come out of retirement after his fantastic sendoff in 2010, especially for a match like this. But here we are, Triple H & Shawn Michaels facing The Undertaker & Kane in 2018. The combined ages of these four at the time is 206. That's a number you'd expect to see from a match at Heroes of Wrestling. And anyone can come up with their own reason as to why this match is happening, but that would just be ignoring the actual reason. For those of you who don't know, Crown Jewel was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. That might not seem like important information, but you can't really discuss this match without mentioning it. Despite the numerous reasons that running shows in Saudi Arabia is morally wrong (their abuse

Worst in the World: What is the Worst Wrestling Match of All Time?

Note: This series is based off a YouTube series " The Search for the Worst " by I Hate Everything, where he reviews every movie on IMDB's Bottom 100. It's a great, funny series and I'd recommend checking it out. Have you ever just thought to yourself "What is the worst match of all time?"? I don't mean something like a boring John Cena-Randy Orton match, I mean a match where the wrestlers have zero chemistry, little wrestling ability, or literally no idea what they are actually doing. I've thought about this for a while, and I've decided to finally figure it out. So I'm going to watch any match that is: a) A winner of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Award for the Worst Worked Match of the Year. or:  b) Listed on the 100 worst rated wrestling matches of all time on the Internet Wrestling Database .   (Note: Some matches appear on awards that aren't on the list.) There are 115 (EDIT: Now 99)  matches on here. I pu

Worst in the World: Trash at the Beach

Click the link here to vote in the poll and help decide the next edition of the Worst in the World. Just over a month ago, I briefly covered the massive success the WWF was having in 1999. Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock are at the top of the card. Triple H is on the rise to the main event. Mankind is playing the ultimate likable & respected babyface. Names like the Undertaker, Kane, and the Big Show are all major players. The undercard is stacked with big names like D-Generation X, D'Lo Brown, and Ken Shamrock, rising stars like The Hardy Boyz and Edge & Christian, and new signings like Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho, and the Dudley Boyz. The WWF was so red hot in 1999 that even an all-time bad WrestleMania in WrestleMania XV couldn't slow them down. But there was one other factor that made 1999 such a good year for the WWF; the fact that their main competitor, WCW, was beginning to crack. At the same time the WWF was reaching the highest heights they'd ever reache
