Worst in the World: Victory Roadblock

(Note: I began writing this post last week. In that time, the Dark Side of the Ring episode on the infamous Plane Ride from Hell has released. I bring this up because one of the matches I cover here (a match that I enjoyed) involves Tommy Dreamer, who made disgusting comments regarding & defending an alleged sexual assault by Ric Flair. Any positive comments I make regarding the match are by no means support for Tommy Dreamer as he faces the consequences of his own actions)
(Special thanks to Frost for suggesting these matches. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.)
When you see the words "Victory Road 2011", what's the first thing you think of? I can bet with almost 100% certainty that it's the main event, where Jeff Hardy walked down to the ring, clearly in no condition to compete, before Sting quickly gave him a Scorpion Death Drop and shoot pinned him to end the match in under 90 seconds, which was so bad even Sting himself commented on it when the crowd chanted "BULLSHIT!" It was actually one of the first matches I ever covered on Worst in the World (which, as it was early in this series, is not my best work, I'll admit.) However, what the main event also did was make everyone forget that the majority of this show is also very bad. As bad as the main event? Not quite, but still bad enough to find a place in this series. Today, I'll be looking at four matches from Victory Road 2011, all of which were rated one and a half stars or lower by Dave Meltzer. Also, since I've already done the main event, it will not be re-covered here. And if you want to judge any of these matches for yourself, you can, because for whatever reason, Victory Road 2011 is available on Impact Plus, in its entirety, completely for free. I have no idea why. I can't imagine this was done so people could get a taste of what TNA has to offer when the offer in question is this pile of a show. So with all that out of the way, let's get into this.
Also, bonus note, the fact that the theme for Victory Road 2011 is "All I Want" by A Day to Remember is already bumping up my opinion of this show.

Match #1: Tommy Dreamer vs Bully Ray

The first match I'll be taking a look at is the show's opening contest between Bully Ray (Bubba Ray Dudley) and Tommy Dreamer. And just like the last time I looked at multiple matches from one show, this show also features the post-break-up feud of a legendary tag team. Ray is just four months removed from turning on his longtime tag partner and kayfabe brother Devon (D-Von Dudley), beginning his change from Brother Ray to Bully Ray. Unlike with Scott Steiner, however, Brother Ray & Bully Ray aren't really that different...or any different. The former Team 3D/Dudley Boyz teammates would feud for several months, with Devon's sons Terrence & Terrell even taking some abuse from Ray. This all set up a match at Victory Road between Bully Ray and...Tommy Dreamer. I'm not really sure how Dreamer found his way into this feud, but if Lucha Underground taught me anything, it's that Tommy Dreamer is always around, even if he has no business being there.
Before the match, Bully Ray demands a microphone from SoCal Val before screaming at her to get out of the ring. I laughed. Bully thanks God for Eric Bischoff & Hulk Hogan for seeing the potential in him as one of the greatest wrestlers right now. He is interrupted by Dreamer, who Bully taunts by mentioning how many times he's kicked his ass over the years and the time he broke Dreamer's wife Beulah McGillicutty's neck back in ECW. I wasn't gonna mention it, but since they did, it is very weird that they would use that angle as heat for Bully when he's about to face Dreamer, who is fighting on behalf of Devon...who also took part in breaking Beulah's neck. Just a weird little detail. Bully announces that thanks to his friendship with Hogan & Bischoff, that this match is now a Falls Count Anywhere match before calling Dreamer a fat ass. Dreamer immediately takes the fight to Bully, laying into him with punches before hitting a crossbody.
After some ground and pound, Dreamer goes for a bulldog, but Bully blocks it and hits a clothesline. Bully goes for an elbow drop for the follow-up, but Dreamer avoids it and tosses Bully out of the ring. Dreamer beats down Bully at ringside before stealing a woman's drink, drinking it, and then hitting Bully with it.
What a dick! That probably cost like five bucks minimum.  Dreamer continues to beat down the former Bubba Ray at ringside before having a fan hold up a chair so he can throw Bully into it. Dick moment #2 for Dreamer as he takes a fan's water bottle, takes a drink, spits it in Bully's face, then smacks him with it. Tommy Dreamer is just taking liberties with the fan's wallets at this point. Dreamer follows all this up by grabbing a giant stuffed Minion from the crowd and hitting Bully with it.
It is here we learn that Taz has no idea what a Minion is. Hook must've been more of a How to Train Your Dragon kid. Even funnier, as Taz desperately tries to figure out what a Minion is for a full 20 seconds, Mike Tenay just goes SILENT, it's the best. I know I'm making a lot of jokes about this, but so far, this has been a lot of fun, and the crowd is loving it.
Dreamer continues to control the match, throwing Bully over the barricade and brawling into the stands. Dreamer beats Bully through the crowd before the match finally gets back to ringside, where Bully turns the tides by dropping Dreamer crotch first across the guardrail. Bully grabs a kendo stick and, for no reason whatsoever, charges at SoCal Val, screams "MOVE IT YOU BITCH!" and smashes the stick across the guard rail so hard it breaks apart completely.
What in the world is Bully Ray's problem with SoCal Val? I know he grabs the chair she was sitting in right after, but it's wrestling, I'm like 99% sure there are chairs available to him without threatening...whatever SoCal Val is. She's not the ring announcer, that's Jeremy Borash, so is her job tonight literally just to be out there and get screamed at by Bully Ray?
Bully stomps on Dreamer's hand on the steps before trying to smash it with a chair, but Dreamer pulls his arm away before throwing Bully into the post. Dreamer throws a trash can, Dead End sign, and a roadblock into the ring before grabbing a kendo stick. Dreamer dives off the second rope (the most dangerous rope) for a kendo stick shot before going under the ring and grabbing...a sex doll.
Before you ask, yes, Vince Russo was working for TNA at the time. Dreamer grabs a pizza tray out of the trash can and smashes it over Bully's head, causing him to fall right into a 69 with the doll. Mike Tenay reminds everyone that this is not a three-way match. Nice one. Dreamer follows up with a on both Bully and the doll for a near fall. Based on the fact that the doll didn't pop, either that was the world's weakest splash, or that's the world's most resilient sex doll. Dreamer goes to the top rope with the Dead End sign, but Bully smashes the pizza tray across his head. Bully follows up with a superplex and an elbow drop...on the doll. Again, somehow this does not pop it. This is staggering. Bully finally just tosses the doll out of the ring after that.
Bully goes for the Bully Bomb (a full nelson bomb), but Dreamer fights out and hits a DDT, but Bully kicks out. Dreamer pulls a table out from under the ring and tries to piledrive Bully through it, but Bully powers out and smashes the trash can across Dreamer's head. Dreamer blocks an Uranage, but Bully immediately follows up with a big boot. Bully makes the cover, but Dreamer grabs the bottom rope...and gets a rope break. What? It's no DQ, how can you there be rope breaks? Makes no sense. Bully beats down Dreamer with a kendo stick before demanding a mic from SoCal Val. Bully taunts Dreamer as he continues beating him down before setting up for a powerbomb through the table. Suddenly, Team 3D's music hits and outcomes Devon's sons Terrence & Terrell, one of whom is in a neck brace. But it's all a distraction, as Devon slides into the ring and hits a 3D with Dreamer on Bully, allowing Dreamer to get the three and the win.

The Verdict

You know what...I liked this match. I am dead serious. Is it a technical masterpiece? No. Am I still confused as to why Tommy Dreamer is suddenly involved in this storyline? Yes. Is it ever gonna make anybody's list of best matches ever? Absolutely not. But was still a lot of fun with nonstop action. In all seriousness, this is the best match I've watched in this series. I would actually go as far as to say that this match is actually fairly good.

So, we've started this off on a high, let's bring it waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay down low.

Match #2: Rosita & Sarita vs Angelina Love & Winter

The second match of Victory Road 2011 saw the Knockouts Tag Team Champions Angelina Love and Winter (Katie Lea Burchill in WWE) defending the titles against Rosita (Thea Trinidad/Zelina Vega) and Sarita of Mexican America, a stable that preached the superiority of Mexican-Americans even though neither Rosita or Sarita are Mexican-American. This storyline...is weird. Fresh off her release from WWE, Winter debuted in TNA as an "admirer" of Love, but would only appear to Love. And by "only appear to Love", I mean everyone watching at home could also see her, but anytime Love tried to show Winter to her Beautiful People teammate Velvet Sky, she'd be gone. Hogan & Bischoff clearly booking this from experience. Eventually. Winter began appearing in front of other wrestlers and, after Sky was injured by Sarita, teamed up with Love to win the vacant tag titles. Three months later, Winter & Love put the titles on the line against Rosita & Sarita in the midst of a conflict between Sky & Winter. Let's get into this.
Rosita & Sarita have a fun entrance. Also, I knew Rosita was short, but I didn't realize that she was so short that she's only a little taller than Sarita when Sarita kneels down.
Sarita is not that tall either, she's 5'5. We get our second straight match with pre-match promo in the ring, as Sarita says she and her cousin will leave tonight as the Tag Team Champions. She says Love & Winter are too focused on their "kinky love triangle thing happening" with Sky and not on their match before speaking in Spanish, eliciting USA chants from the crowd because they're foreign, you see. Sarita, a woman born in the small Mexican village of Winnipeg, Manitoba, ends her promo by saying Mexico is taking back what's rightfully theirs. Love & Winter come out to the Beautiful People's music. Kind of kills the mysterious mystique of Winter when she comes out to...whatever the Beautiful People's theme is supposed to be.
Love & Rosita start the match off. with Love taking control with a headlock followed by a shoulder block, a clothesline, and another shoulder block. Rosita quickly tags out so Sarita can take her licks, as Love counters a back suplex with a headlock takeover. Winter scares Sarita as she recovers, allowing Love to follow up with a suplex. Rosita tags back in, only to eat a drop toe hold from Love, who tags in Winter. Winter lays out Rosita with a back elbow followed by a backbreaker for the near fall. Rosita immediately tags back out to Sarita, who immediately takes a flapjack. Sarita slips out of a slam attempt, but after a reversal that I can only describe as "not the cleanest". Winter hits a Northern Lights suplex, but Rosita breaks up the pinfall. Holy shit, did Rosita & Sarita piss somebody off backstage? The first two minutes of this match is just them getting squashed with little effort.
Sarita manages to hit the first offensive maneuver for her team when Love tags in and gets her Irish whip attempt countered with a hair pull takedown. Rosita tags in, but the advantage doesn't last long as Love dodges Rosita & Sarita's electric chair drop splash. Love follows up with a falling slam as the crowd chants "USA" in support of a Canadian woman and a German-English woman and in disapproval of another Canadian woman and a woman born in Queens. What are we even doing? Winter tags back in for a big boot, but Rosita dodges it and kicks her leg out of her leg.
Sarita tags back in as Rosita holds Winter in place, but Winter avoids Sarita's dropkick, causing Rosita to take the hit. Winter hits a wristlock takedown before tagging in Love, who works the arm with a wristlock. Sarita breaks the hold and whips Love into the ropes, where Rosita gets a cheap shot in by pulling Love down by her hair. Rosita tags back and goes for a slingshot senton, but Love moves out of the way. How did these two goofballs get a title match? They have hit a total of three offensive moves in this match, and every time they take control, they instantly lose it. Are you telling me Angelina Love and Winter are just THAT much better than them?
Love follows that up with that dumb inverted Stunner Shane Douglas used in WCW and makes the cover, but Sarita breaks up the pin. Winter tags back in for a Botox Injection (Love's bad name for a bicycle kick)-Samoan Drop combo and makes the pin, but Sarita breaks it up again. As Love knocks Sarita out of the ring, referee Earl Hebner gets distracted by Love, allowing Sarita to grab one of the title belts from SoCal Val. Sarita is significantly nicer to Val than Bully Ray was when she does this. Love immediately notices this and knocks Sarita out of the ring again, leading to a brawl at ringside that also distracts Hebner. It is here where either Velvet Sky misses her cue, or Rosita jumps the gun on her cue to grab the title belt and prepare to hit Winter, leaving her standing with the belt above her head awkwardly for a good seven seconds too long before Sky runs down and yanks the belt away from her.
Winter takes the opportunity to roll up Rosita and gets the visual three, but Hebner is still distracted by Angelina Love at ringside. Sarita takes the opportunity to slide in and roll the pin over in favor of Rosita. Despite the fact that Winter has taken just one move all match, Rosita manages to pin her for well over three seconds before Hebner finally returns to the match, counts the three, and the win for Rosita & Sarita. Winter, Love, and Sky argue and Velvet calls Winter a spazz.

The Verdict

What the fuck was this? Why was this match so one-sided? Why would TNA book this match the way they did when the people getting demolished end up winning the match? Who did this benefit? All in all, this match was not good whatsoever. It's not the worst I've seen by any stretch of the imagination (hell, it's not even the worst on this show) and while there are definitely some clunky moments and a laughably bad ending, I still can't put it too low. But it's definitely on the lower side.

Match #3: Hernandez vs Matt Morgan

Match #3 in this post is also match #3 of the night, as former tag partners Hernandez and Matt Morgan squared off in a First Blood match. Hernandez & Morgan have pretty similar stories in TNA, as both were clearly guys the company wanted to push as main eventers, but neither really panned out so they'd just throw them into a tag team. Following the official split of the Latin American Xchange and the end of Morgan's feud with Kurt Angle, Hernandez & Morgan teamed up and quickly found success, winning the tag titles from the British Invasion at Genesis 2010. Four months later, however, Morgan would turn on Hernandez, kayfabe injuring him and declaring himself the sole champion. After Hernandez ended the feud with a win over Morgan in a Steel Cage match at the previous year's victory road, Hernandez...left...and then came back as a heel in the Immortal faction as their heavy. I don't know why they did this. In between then, Morgan had joined the Fortune stable...only to get kicked out and turn face shortly after Fortune joined Immortal. Also, Hernandez has formed Mexican America with Rosita & Sarita since then, who are also part of Immortal...I think...explaining that he was treated like a star in Mexico, but as a second-class citizen in the United States. Hernandez would then cost Morgan his TNA World Heavyweight Championship match against Mr. Anderson, restarting the feud. After a brawl between the two saw Morgan get busted open, the First Blood stipulation was added.
So yes, TNA decided that the HERNANDEZ & MATT MORGAN feud needed to span over a FULL CALENDAR YEAR. 391 days to be exact. For the break-up of HERNANDEZ & MATT MORGAN. To put this into perspective, the break-up feud between Hernandez & Homicide, one of the most popular tag teams in the history of TNA, didn't get a single televised match between the two. Not even a multi-man tag, just a few house show matches. The Hernandez-Matt Morgan split got five matches on TV, and an additional four matches on pay-per-view for nine total matches broadcasted. THEY CHARGED PEOPLE MONEY TO WATCH THIS FEUD FOUR SEPARATE TIMES. That has to be some degree of grand larceny. I could forgive a feud for being this long if the matches are at least good, but these are not the matches that justify a year-long feud. Most of them aren't even awful their just...forgettable. I wasn't watching TNA when this feud was happening, and I genuinely had no idea this feud went this long. I thought the Victory Road 2011 match was the only match they had. None of them even have enough votes on Cagematch.net to get a rating, that's how forgettable they are. I didn't know they feuded for so long that this storyline spanned TWO SEPERATE VICTORY ROAD SHOWS. Let's get into this.
Both men make their entrances, and just by looking at them, you can see why TNA thought these guys could be in the main event. They both look like a million bucks and then some. The only problem is that the eye test is really the only thing these two excel at. Neither are awful workers, but they definitely need the right person across the ring from them to have a good match, and the promos leave a lot to be desired. Morgan rushes the ring and quickly takes the fight to Hernandez, immediately punching him down to the ground before stepping on his neck. Morgan beats down Hernandez in the corner before clotheslining him out of the ring. Morgan follows him out and tries to ram Hernandez into the steel steps (the same way Morgan was busted open during the brawl), but Hernandez blocks it. Hernandez tries to do the same, but Morgan also blocks it before successfully throwing Hernandez into the steps. Back in the ring, Morgan rips of one of the turnbuckles pad, revealing...a smaller turnbuckle pad.
Sure, why not?  Hernandez gains the advantage by pulling Morgan's head down into the ropes before hitting a big spear. Hernandez goes back to ringside where he broomstick out from under the ring. That's not even the second weirdest weapon that's been used on this show. Hernandez breaks the stick over his knee before choking Morgan with it. He then tries to stab Morgan in the eye with the jagged end of the stick.
Hernandez was ahead of his time. Morgan avoids getting impaled (and worse, losing the match) and knocks the stick out of the ring, but Hernandez keeps control with a boot to the gut.
Hernandez drags Morgan's face across the middle rope before giving him a back rake and gouging his eyes with his thumbs. Hernandez saw the First Blood stipulation and decided to go one step further apparently. Morgan comes back with a big sidewalk slam, but Hernandez keeps control with a huge shoulder tackle. Hernandez throws Morgan's head into the tiny turnbuckle pad, knocking it off, before whipping Morgan across the ring and hitting a shoulder block in the corner. Hernandez plays up to the crowd, but Morgan springs up and hits a big discus clothesline. Someone in the crowd was not thrilled with that, as they chuck an empty water bottle at Morgan.
Morgan runs wild on Hernandez with clotheslines before splashing him in the corner. Morgan follows up with a fallaway slam before leaving the ring and grabbing the jagged broomstick. Morgan also tries to stab Hernandez as he sits in the corner, but Hernandez boots him in the gut. Impressively, Hernandez pulls him up from the mat to the top rope, but Morgan quickly meets him there and tosses him down to the mat. Morgan sets up for the Carbon Footprint (his much-less dumb name for a bicycle kick), only for a fan to run into the ring. He is quickly taken out of the ring, but the distraction allows for Hernandez to pull a tiny chain out of his shorts. I don't know why he didn't just do that from the beginning. Also, that "fan" is actually Anarquia, who would go on to become Hernandez's tag team partner in Mexican America. However, I can neither confirm nor deny that he is also the one that threw the water bottle.
The plan fails, however, as Morgan blocks Hernandez's chain-wrapped fist before wrapping his own fist and clocking Hernandez with it. Hernandez pretty blatantly blades on camera as Morgan calls for a referee. We then see referee Brian Hebner laid out at ringside. We never saw him get laid out. Terrible camera work by TNA here in the closing moments of this match. As Morgan waits for another referee, Hernandez springs up and squirts fake blood on Morgan.
Morgan floors Hernandez with a punch before setting up for the Carbon Footprint. As he does this, a referee runs down. He sees Hernandez first and then looks at Morgan, both of whom are bleeding...and calls the match and gives the win to Hernandez. So I'm about to do something that I don't think I've ever done in this series...I'm going to defend an ending that everyone thinks is dumb...because, in hindsight, this ending made sense.
So, at first glance, it looks like the referee ran down, saw Hernandez bleeding first, but then still said that Morgan bled first and gave the win to Hernandez for whatever reason. Again, that's what it looks like. But look at who the referee was:
Jackson James. Jackson James had a history of making mistakes in matches that always benefited members of Immortal. We later find out that not only is Jackson James part of Immortal himself but that he's also Eric Bischoff's son Garrett. And what happened in this match? Hernandez, a member of Immortal, got a cheap win against Matt Morgan, who is feuding with Immortal, thanks to a referee, who is secretly in Immortal, making a "mistake." Is it a good finish? Not really. But does it make sense with the story they were telling? In my opinion, yes.

The Verdict

This is another match that, by itself, isn't very good whatsoever, but when you put it up against the other matches I've covered in this series, the standard is so low that a match like this is way closer to the top than the bottom. It's a pretty uneventful hoss match with a finish that seems illogical at the moment but makes sense when the full story has run its course.

Match #4: Mr. Anderson vs Rob Van Dam

Thankfully, we get a pallet cleanser between bad matches #3 and #4, as we get two decent matches in the Ultimate X match and Beer Money/Ink Inc. tag title match, and a solid AJ Styles/Matt Hardy match before we get to the last match of the post; Mr. Anderson vs Rob Van Dam. This match comes to be as both men claimed they were owed a shot at the TNA World Heavyweight Championship, Anderson because he was the former champion and has a rematch, while RVD was stripped of the title back in April 2010. Tensions between Anderson & RVD grew when Anderson refereed a title match between RVD and Jeff Hardy, which Hardy won, and then gave a Mic Check (a reverse STO) to both men. This match crowns the #1 contender to the World Heavyweight Championship now held by Sting. This feud also falls in between Mr. Anderson's conflict with Hogan, Bischoff, and "the Network" due to Anderson not being "family-friendly." Although from what I've seen, it just seems like Mr. Anderson just adamantly refuses to stop referring to himself as an asshole and that's it. This led to the most confusing promo package I have ever seen. You could have no idea what this feud was about, then watch that video, and you will have gained no new information about what is going on. Let's get into this.
Van Dam is out first and HOLY SHIT HIS THEME IS AWFUL. I've never had the chance to say it, but that day has finally come. This theme is trash. I don't know what the worst part is, the singer just shouting every line or the fact that he just starts listing off RVD's moves. Just terrible. Anderson is out second and, I can't deny it, I'll always pop for his entrance. The self-ring announcing schtick is gold. The two go nose-to-nose before exchanging punches. Anderson takes control with a headlock followed by a shoulder block, but Van Dam dodges it and goes for a flipping leg drop. Despite the move clearly hitting Anderson when he tries to roll out of the way, Anderson acts as if he didn't get hit.
The two trade counters before Van Dam gets a slick body scissor roll-up for a near fall, which Anderson follows up with a roll-up of his own. The two circle each other before locking up, once again trading holds and counters before Anderson floors Van Dam with a shoulder block. Unfortunately, a leapfrog attempt doesn't go well, as either Anderson pops up too quickly or Van Dam jumps too soon, causing a funky collision in the middle of the ring.
Everything in the beginning of this match has either been really nice or clunky as shit. The crowd chants "YOU FUCKED UP!" at them, prompting Anderson to try and cover for the botch by yelling "I MEANT TO DO THAT!" Anderson beats down Van Dam in the corner before whipping him across the ring and hitting a clothesline. Van Dam counters another Irish whip across the ring and hits a spinning heel kick in the corner. Van Dam drives his shoulder into Anderson twice before hitting a springboard kick followed by Rolling Thunder. Anderson rolls out of the ring, prompting Van Dam to send him into the guard rail with a baseball slide before diving onto him from the ring. Van Dam follows up with a front suplex onto the guard rail and sets up for the corkscrew leg drop, but Anderson avoids it, sending Van Dam's leg into the guard rail hard.
Anderson targets the legs, slamming both into the ring post before stomping them and dropping knees onto them. Anderson locks in a single-leg Boston Crab, but Van Dam manages to get the ropes to break the hold. Anderson traps Van Dam's leg in the ropes before nailing a dropkick, followed by a chop block to the leg for a near fall. Van Dam fights back and fights back with clotheslines and a superkick, and manages to block a surprise Mic Check grabbing the ropes, but a second Rolling Thunder attempt gets caught by Anderson in a not-so-clean sequence. Van Dam slips out of a fireman's carry, but Anderson quickly follows up with a back suplex. Anderson runs wild with a clothesline and a back elbow before hitting a slow swinging neckbreaker for a near fall. Anderson follows that up with the rolling fireman's carry senton for another near fall before going for the Mic Check, but Van Dam fights out of it. Both men go down following a double clothesline spot.
The two trade blows before Van Dam takes control with shoulder blocks in the corner, but Anderson dodges a charging one, only for both to collide and go down again. Anderson goes for a clothesline, but Van Dam dodges it and sends Anderson & himself out of the ring with a crossbody. Van Dam strikes Anderson up the ramp until Anderson hits the Mic Check. The move takes out both men, however, and the referee counts out both men to end the match. The crowd boos before dueling "RESTART THE MATCH!/NO!" chants break out. You know you've done a bad job when the crowd is vocally rejecting the idea of you two continuing to wrestle. It's the exact opposite of the "FIGHT FOREVER!" chant.

The Verdict

This match was messy. That's the best way I can describe it. The early part of the match had those clunky moments, but there were still some nice moments. The second half of this match, however, doesn't have any of those nice moments to boost it up, but it still has those clunky moments. Neither of them are bad wrestlers either, it just seemed like the two had no chemistry whatsoever. It was very boring and went on longer than it needed to. Add on the double countout non-finish and you get a match that accomplished nothing and entertained no one, and the crowd agreed.

Thanks for reading! Be sure to share if you enjoy and leave any suggestions for matches you'd like to see covered in the Worst in the World in the comments. Next time, I'll be going back to Monday Nitro in the year 2000, where I'll take a look at a match that took half of the midcard and buried them six feet under. Until then...

    1. Thanks for the suggestions! Those are all great suggestions and I'll definitely be looking at those. That Elimination Chamber match is one that I completely forgot about, but you mentioning just reminded me of how bad it was.
I have a few scheduled to post right now, but once those are done, I'll get to work on these three

    2. (It would be great speak about some bad matches like Kevin Nash vs triple tlc 2011 I think. Or What about that elimination chamber when everything got out control when the mark Henry's chamber opened before the planned. Or that terrible tuxedos match between hornswoggle and Chavo Guerrero in 2008 I think.)

      Thank you.

  2. Thank you for covering this! I didn't realize the implications of the referee in Immortal for the Hernandez-Morgan match, so that definitely gets a pass for covering up some of the flaws with that finish. But as for the RVD-Anderson match, I still cannot comprehend why from a) the kayfabe perspective of why Anderson would do his finisher on the ramp to cause a double countout and b) a booking perspective TNA thought it was a good idea to have a number-one contendership match end in a draw. And, as the main event of the show proved, having someone to step up as a clear number-one contender would have REALLY helped in avoiding a disaster.

Also, I have a more interesting suggestion for World in the World: January 4, 1999. Georgia Dome in Atlanta. Main event of Nitro. 38,809 paid attendance. A Nielsen rating of 5. WCW World Heavyweight Title match. Kevin Nash, leader of the Wolfpac. Hulk Hogan, leader of nWo Hollywood. The second Nitro after Starrcade '97. The Fingerpoke of Doom.

Now, obviously it isn't exactly a long match, but in other matches on the list the booking and long-term implications have been brought into consideration. Do you think the FoD deserves a ranking on Worst in the World, or is the fact it is almost more of a segment than a match something that renders it unrankable?

    1. I have debated the idea of doing the Fingerpoke of Doom if it ever got recommended. In my opinion, while it is obviously super short, the damage it did was too much to pass up. Since it was so short though, I thought I'd do a double header with the match where David Arquette wins the world title in a sort of "The Matches that Killed WCW" kind of thing.

    2. Also, your totally right about the Mr. Anderson finisher. In kayfabe, it's especially dumb when it's a move like the Mic Check when he's taking just as much of a bump as his opponent.
And to be the honest, the Matt Morgan/Hernandez finish was something I didn't know until I did research for this. I only figured it out because I recognized Garrett Bischoff, but Googled him to verify it was him because Tenay & Taz kept calling him Jackson James, and that's how I found out he ends being revealed as part of Immortal. I'd even seen reviews of this show that don't bring it up, but I get the feeling most of them are from right after the show when the storyline hadn't fully played out. But like I said, not a great ending, but knowing the actually context makes it a little more tolerable

Worst in the World: The Last Rites Match-TNA Destination X 2007

(Special thanks to an anonymous user for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) An often discussed aspect of professional wrestling is the backstage politicking of Hulk Hogan. Throughout his career as a major attraction in wrestling, Hogan's philosophy has always been to protect Hulk Hogan...OK, sometimes he'd help Ed Leslie, but most of the time it was to protect Hulk Hogan. Because of that philosophy and Hogan's influence as a top guy, there have been multiple instances where a company's booking and other wrestlers have suffered as a result. Would having Mr. Perfect win the 1990 Royal Rumble made sense and could have elevated a rising star and potentially created a new main event player? Yes, but that would require Hogan to not win, and that doesn't work for Hogan, so he wins the Rumble even though he doesn't need elevating. Would booking Randy Orton to beat Hogan at SummerSlam 20...

Worst in the World: The Gimmick Battle Royal-WrestleMania X-Seven

(Special thanks to Frost for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) WrestleMania X-Seven. Heavily considered the not just the best WrestleMania, but the greatest wrestling show of all time, WrestleMania X-Seven took place during the hottest period in the WWF's history, and features just about every one of the hottest acts in wrestling at the time. An undercard featuring the likes of Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, William Regal, Kane, and the Big Show. One of the biggest female stars in the history of wrestling in Chyna. A killer TLC match between the Dudley Boyz, the Hardy Boyz, and Edge & Christian. A wild brawl between The Undertaker and Triple H. A massive main event between Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock. Hell, even the father vs son Street Fight between Vince & Shane McMahon. It's a star-studded affair. However, there's one match that sticks out like...

Worst in the World: D-Generation X vs Brothers of Destruction-Crown Jewel

This match didn't need to happen. After Triple H and the Undertaker had one of the most brutally bad matches of 2018 at Super Show-Down not even a month earlier, nobody wanted to see them try to wrestle again. Also, nobody wanted to see Shawn Michaels come out of retirement after his fantastic sendoff in 2010, especially for a match like this. But here we are, Triple H & Shawn Michaels facing The Undertaker & Kane in 2018. The combined ages of these four at the time is 206. That's a number you'd expect to see from a match at Heroes of Wrestling. And anyone can come up with their own reason as to why this match is happening, but that would just be ignoring the actual reason. For those of you who don't know, Crown Jewel was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. That might not seem like important information, but you can't really discuss this match without mentioning it. Despite the numerous reasons that running shows in Saudi Arabia is morally wrong (their abuse ...

Worst in the World: Nia Jax's Worst Matches

Click the link here to vote in the poll and help decide the next edition of the Worst in the World. Nia Jax's first run with the WWE can really only be described as hard to watch. Sure, she had a few stand-out matches, most notably (and surprisingly) her match with Ronda Rousey at Money in the Bank, and an underrated gem with Bayley at NXT TakeOver: London, but those were always outshined by her most infamous matches and moments. She's since returned to WWE and, for the most part, seems to have improved a bit, but the reputation she got from her initial run is gonna be hard to shake off. This week, I'll be looking at some of Jax's worst matches. These include just flat-out bad matches, and matches that have become infamous examples of her reckless in-ring work. Match #1: vs Charlotte Flair-April 10th, 2017 Raw The first match we'll be looking at is from the April 10, 2017 episode of Monday Night Raw, when Nia took on Charlotte Flair. Worst in the World: Eric Young & Shark Boy vs Generation Me-TNA Destination X 2011

Click the link here to vote in the poll and help decide the next edition of the Worst in the World. Throughout the late 2000s and 2010s, few tag teams made as much noise on the independent scene as the Young Bucks. Really breaking out at a time when WWE made their tag division a borderline afterthought, Matt & Nick Jackson were almost unmatched in terms of elite matches on the indys, most notably in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla & Ring of Honor before joining New Japan Pro-Wrestling and Bullet Club, becoming mainstays of the group as it reached its peak throughout the mid-2010s. Sure, their style hasn't endeared them to old-school wrestling fans, but you can't deny their impact on wrestling. And with the arrival of All Elite Wrestling in 2019, North American fans would finally get to see the Young Bucks on national television for the first time... However... In what has become somewhat of a footnote in their careers, the Young Bucks had been on a nationally televised wrestlin...
