My Thoughts on NXT (10/19/16): (Roddy) Strong Style Has Arrived

  • Rich Swann & No Way Jose vs Drew Gulak & Tony Nese-Swann & Gulak kick off by exchanging shoulder blocks before Swann dropkicks Gulak. Jose & Nese tag in and Jose hits a snapmare and a flapjack for a one count. Nese leapfrogs Jose and dodges a punch before kicking Jose to the ground. Jose hits a delayed suplex on Nese before tagging in Swann. Jose slams Nese before Swann hits an assisted splash for a near fall. Nese throws Swann into the ropes and to the outside, where Nese superkicks Swann before the commercial break. We come back to Gulak working over Swann with a headlock. After a double clothesline spot, Jose gets the hot tag and runs wild, hitting clothesline that turns Nese inside out for a nearfall. The heels go for a double suplex, but Jose fights out and hits a pop-up knockout punch, but Nese makes the save. Swann takes Nese out with a somersault plancha on the outside as Jose hits the cobra clutch slam on Gulak for the win. Fine little match. Post-match, Jose says that Gulak & Nese couldn't handle them, and Nese said there was no way they could get knocked out in the first round. They do their joint "Can You Handle This/No Way Jose" chant to close the segment.
  • We get a video from earlier today of Tye Dillinger in the trainer's room. Dillinger says Bobby Roode gave him his word for Dusty Rhodes, and he broke it. He says he knows William Regal will give him a match at Takeover: Toronto against Roode before walking off.
  • Austin Aries gets interviewed about his partner in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic while eating a banana. He says he won't say who it is, but he says his partner is the only person who deserves to be his partner. He also rags on Hideo Itami for getting injured and having to pull out of the Tag Team Classic.
  • Bobby Roode vs Sean Maluta-How does WWE expect anyone to boo Bobby Roode with an entrance like that? It's not possible. Roode yells "GLORIOUS" right in Maluta's face before taking him down with a snapmare and doing it again. Maluta responds with a dropkick and tilt-a-whirl headscissors before Roode hits a side suplex. Roode proceeds to beat down Maluta, tossing him around the ring before Maluta hits a spin kick, only to get a spinebuster in return. Roode hits the implant DDT for the win. Post match, Roode says that he will Takeover Toronto in five weeks, and says that Dillinger has been whining on Twitter for days. He says he only teamed with Dillinger because he felt bad for him and wanted to bring him up to his level. He says he has no beef with Dillinger, but he has to eliminate the losers from his life. Dillinger runs down and the two brawl, ending with Dillinger clotheslining Roode from the ring.
  • Liv Morgan gets interviewed. She says she doesn't have to run her mouth like Billie Jay & Peyton Royce only to get blindsided by Kay & Royce. They drag her out to the stage and beat her down some more before mocking her again. Royce says they are putting the women's division on notice, including Asuka, before saying the division belongs to them.
  • Tucker Knight & Otis Dozovic vs Austin Aries & ?-I'm pretty sure Dozovic is the security guard who ate a Kinshasa last week. But more importantly, Austin Aries mystery partner is...
RODERICK STRONG! MR. ROH IS IN NXT! Aries & Dozovic start off with by trading blows before catching Aries off a crossbody, tagging in Knight, and sandwiching Aries between both of them. Strong tags and the two trade blows before Knight dropkicks Strong. The big guys get a lot of offense, double splashing Aries before doing a big chest bump. Dozovic goes for a Vader Bomb, but Aries distracts him, allowing Strong to kick him down. Strong beats down Dozovic before tagging in Aries to hammer away at Dozovic. The heels work over Dozovic until Dozovic blocks a double suplex with a double suplex of his own. Knight gets the hot tag and runs through the heels, hitting an arm trap belly-to-belly on Strong followed by a double corner splash, only for Strong to pull Aries out of the way of another that sends him over the top rope. Aries hits a suicide dive on Knight before hitting a rolling elbow, followed by Death by Roderick, a fireman's carry double knee gutbuster, and a Sick Kick, a running single leg dropkick, from Strong for the win. Really good match. Strong & Aries were obviously great, but Knight & Dozovic held their own in there as well. Really impressed with those two.
  • Andrade Cien Almas gets interviewed in Spanish with Andrea DeMarco translating for him. He says he's been disrespected by the NXT crowd and that he deserves respect. He then speaks in English and says he doesn't care about respect anymore and only cares about himself.
  • Nikki Cross vs Daniel Kamela-Cross takes the fight right to Kamela before Kamela suplexes her to no effect. Cross hits a neckbreaker before starting to bite & claw herself. Cross hits a fisherman's neckbreaker to get the quick win. After the match, Cross continues to beat down Kamela before Eric Young pulls her off. She ends up forearming Young across the face, but Young looks happy that she did it. She goes back to Kamela before Sawyer Fulton pulls her off again. The announcer then says that the referee has reversed his decision, giving the win to Kamela.
  • Outcomes Shinsuke Nakamura. He says he's not done with Samoa Joe and tells him that if he wants the NXT Championship, he'll face him again at Takeover. He says he'll beat him with no mercy, which brings out...Patrick Clark? He says we're gathered here today to get to NXT Takeover: Toronto. He says Joe vs Nakamura has already happened, and that something new should happen. He proposes himself vs Nakamura, so Nakamura kicks him in the head. Out limps Samoa Joe, who stares down Nakamura before going back to the back. The referees tend to Clark, only to set him up in perfect position for a Kinshasa, which Nakamura gives him to close the show.

Worst in the World: The Gimmick Battle Royal-WrestleMania X-Seven

(Special thanks to Frost for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) WrestleMania X-Seven. Heavily considered the not just the best WrestleMania, but the greatest wrestling show of all time, WrestleMania X-Seven took place during the hottest period in the WWF's history, and features just about every one of the hottest acts in wrestling at the time. An undercard featuring the likes of Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, William Regal, Kane, and the Big Show. One of the biggest female stars in the history of wrestling in Chyna. A killer TLC match between the Dudley Boyz, the Hardy Boyz, and Edge & Christian. A wild brawl between The Undertaker and Triple H. A massive main event between Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock. Hell, even the father vs son Street Fight between Vince & Shane McMahon. It's a star-studded affair. However, there's one match that sticks out like

Worst in the World: The Last Rites Match-TNA Destination X 2007

(Special thanks to an anonymous user for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) An often discussed aspect of professional wrestling is the backstage politicking of Hulk Hogan. Throughout his career as a major attraction in wrestling, Hogan's philosophy has always been to protect Hulk Hogan...OK, sometimes he'd help Ed Leslie, but most of the time it was to protect Hulk Hogan. Because of that philosophy and Hogan's influence as a top guy, there have been multiple instances where a company's booking and other wrestlers have suffered as a result. Would having Mr. Perfect win the 1990 Royal Rumble made sense and could have elevated a rising star and potentially created a new main event player? Yes, but that would require Hogan to not win, and that doesn't work for Hogan, so he wins the Rumble even though he doesn't need elevating. Would booking Randy Orton to beat Hogan at SummerSlam 20

Worst in the World: D-Generation X vs Brothers of Destruction-Crown Jewel

This match didn't need to happen. After Triple H and the Undertaker had one of the most brutally bad matches of 2018 at Super Show-Down not even a month earlier, nobody wanted to see them try to wrestle again. Also, nobody wanted to see Shawn Michaels come out of retirement after his fantastic sendoff in 2010, especially for a match like this. But here we are, Triple H & Shawn Michaels facing The Undertaker & Kane in 2018. The combined ages of these four at the time is 206. That's a number you'd expect to see from a match at Heroes of Wrestling. And anyone can come up with their own reason as to why this match is happening, but that would just be ignoring the actual reason. For those of you who don't know, Crown Jewel was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. That might not seem like important information, but you can't really discuss this match without mentioning it. Despite the numerous reasons that running shows in Saudi Arabia is morally wrong (their abuse

Worst in the World: Nia Jax's Worst Matches

Sure, she had a few stand-out matches, most notably (and surprisingly) her match with Ronda Rousey at Money in the Bank, and an underrated gem with Bayley at NXT TakeOver: London, but those were always outshined by her most infamous matches and moments. She's since returned to WWE and, for the most part, seems to have improved a bit, but the reputation she got from her initial run is gonna be hard to shake off. This week, I'll be looking at some of Jax's worst matches. These include just flat-out bad matches, and matches that have become infamous examples of her reckless in-ring work. Match #1: vs Charlotte Flair-April 10th, 2017 Raw The first match we'll be looking at is from the April 10, 2017 episode of Monday Night Raw, when Nia took on Charlotte Flair. The two had been on the losing e

Worst in the World: Eric Young & Shark Boy vs Generation Me-TNA Destination X 2011

Throughout the late 2000s and 2010s, few tag teams made as much noise on the independent scene as the Young Bucks. Really breaking out at a time when WWE made their tag division a borderline afterthought, Matt & Nick Jackson were almost unmatched in terms of elite matches on the indys, most notably in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla & Ring of Honor before joining New Japan Pro-Wrestling and Bullet Club, becoming mainstays of the group as it reached its peak throughout the mid-2010s. Sure, their style hasn't endeared them to old-school wrestling fans, but you can't deny their impact on wrestling. And with the arrival of All Elite Wrestling in 2019, North American fans would finally get to see the Young Bucks on national television for the first time... However... In what has become somewhat of a footnote in their careers, the Young Bucks had been on a nationally televised wrestlin
