My Thoughts on RAW (10/3/16): That Jeri-KO Show

  • We kick off the show with Roman Reigns to a lot of boos. He says he's the first person in his bloodline to win the United States Championship before being interrupted by Lana. She says she came out without Rusev's knowledge to negotiate a rematch for the United States Championship. Reigns insults Rusev for not coming out, but Lana slams him for disrespecting both Rusev & her and not knowing the meaning of "family." Lana says Rusev will embarrass him, but Reigns tells her to get Rusev and give him his "Bulgarian balls." Lana tells Reigns to go to Hell and Rusev comes out. Reigns and Rusev brawl at ringside. They fight into the ring, ending with Reigns punching Rusev out, only to run into a kick. Rusev tosses Reigns into the stairs before superkicking him over the barricade. Rusev holds the United States Championship up and walks off with it. At the top of the ramp, Reigns pops out and hits a Superman Punch. Can't let Rusev get the upper hand at the end of a segment, of course. That doesn't make Reigns look strong at all. Reigns grabs the mic and says he'll give Rusev his rematch...in Hell in a Cell!
  • TJ Perkins vs Brian Kendrick-Brian Kendrick looks homeless. Just saying. Despite hesitation, Perkins accepts Kendrick's handshake. Perkins quickly dropkicks Kendrick out of the ring and fakes him out on a dive before dabbing on him. Perkins fakes out Kendrick again and sends him back to the outside before hitting a corkscrew plancha. Perkins rolls Kendrick back in the ring, but Kendrick dodges a senton bomb and boots Perkins to the ground. Kendrick exposes the turnbuckle and traps Perkins fingers in there, allowing him to stand on his fingers before the commercial break. We come back to see Perkins hit a top rope Frankensteiner. Perkins hits an Atomic drop followed by an enziguri and a hurricanrana before hitting the double hook gutbuster for a near fall. Perkins immediately turns it into a kneebar, but Kendrick gets to the ropes. Kendrick hits a corner-STO followed by Sliced Bread #2 for a near fall before locking in Captain's Hook. Perkins rolls over and almost gets the pin before sending Kendrick into the ropes off a drop toe hold and hits a springboard 619. Perkins lifts Kendrick on his shoulders, but Kendrick pulls on his nose and frees himself, allowing him to lock in Captain's Hook again and get the submission win. Really good match, both men did great.
  • An interview from earlier today where Michael Cole interviews Seth Rollins.
    • He says he was advised not to come to Los Angeles tonight due to his rib injury and says Kevin Owens was handed the Universal Championship.
    • He says he's alienated a lot of people because that's what happens on your way to the top.
    • He says he wasn't replaced by Kevin Owens because you can't replace him and that Owens is just a cog in the machine. He adds that he's going to tear the machine apart.
  • Braun Strowman vs Chase Silver-Why did this guy chose to fight Strowman? Well, he had a dream last night where he beat up Braun Strowman. Spoiler alert; that doesn't happen. At one point, Strowman boots Silver half way across the ring. Strowman finishes him off with a running powerslam for the win. After the match, Byron Saxton interviews Strowman and asks him what's next. Strowman says he's the gift of destruction and demands real competition.
  • Backstage, Bayley congratulates Sasha Banks for getting the chance to main event RAW tonight. Sasha says this is what she's been working for her whole life.
  • Outcome Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho, who is still adding people to the List of Jericho. Owens insults Michael Cole before saying Rollins should have listened to the doctors. He says Rollins is a stupid idiot (Jericho confirmed) and says Rollins doesn't deserve a rematch for the Universal Championship. He says he's the only reason Rollins lost at Clash of Champions. Jericho says he & Owens are best friends as the crowd calls them "Stupid Idiots", which Owens points out just makes them stupid idiots. Owens suggests Jericho should be the referee for a rematch with Rollins, but Jericho suggests that they challenge the New Day for the RAW Tag Team Championships too many cheers. Owens points out that Cesaro & Sheamus already have a title shot, so Jericho suggests a non-title match, then win the Tag Team Championships so they can be Tag Team Champions and Universal Champions. Jericho teases dissension by implying that he could be asking for a Universal Championship match, so Owens agrees to go for the RAW Tag Team Championships. This brings out the New Day and Kofi says the New Day are better friends than Owens & Jericho. Jericho responds by putting Kofi on the List of Jericho. Big E decides to hold a champions huddle and invite Owens, but not Jericho because Jericho has no championship, so Jericho puts Big E on the list. Woods laughs, so Jericho adds him to the list. Owens slams the New Day and says they jumped the shark, but Woods says they don't swim. He also says that Owens hasn't jumped over anything, so Owens makes Jericho put Woods on the list again. Woods closes the segment by saying Jeri-KO will never end their reign as the W-W-E-WORLD-TAG-TEAM-CHAMPIONS! Great segment, so funny!
  • We get another earlier today segment that shows Sheamus & Cesaro arguing as they arrive at RAW. Tag partners who hate eachother? I think we all know who to call!:
  • Sami Zayn vs Titus O'Neil-I guess the Darren Young/Titus O'Neil feud is done...thankfully. The two go back and forth to start before Titus hits multiple backbreakers. Titus beats down Zayn in the corner while singing Zayn's entrance theme poorly. Titus locks in a bearhug on Zayn before hitting an over-the-shoulder backbreaker. Zayn mounts some offense off a big clothesline before hitting the exploder suplex in the corner and finishes Titus off with the Helluva Kick for the win.
  • Backstage, Sheamus & Cesaro argue over who's fault it was that they were late. Foley shows up and says he believes in them as a team. He wants them to be cohesive together and tells them to get on the same page.
  • The Golden Truth vs Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson-ARE YOU SERIOUS?! GALLOWS & ANDERSON GOT A JOBBER ENTRANCE! F*CK RIGHT OFF! Earlier tonight in a promo, Gallows & Anderson say that the New Day ruined the tag division. Truth starts by hip tossing Anderson before he & Goldust hit a double Russian leg sweep. Anderson eventually forces Goldust into his team's corner and tags in Gallows. Gallows beats down Goldust before Goldust hits a scoop slam. Truth gets the hot tag and runs wild on Anderson, hitting a heel kick followed by a scissor kick, but Gallows breaks up the pin. Gallows takes out Goldust and Anderson & Gallows hit the Magic Killer on Truth for the win. I'm sorry, but any luster these guys had is gone now after their losses to the New Day.
  • Backstage, Jeri-KO run into Ashton Kutcher and Danny Masterson. Jericho tries to put them on the List of Jericho, so Masterson takes the list and reads the list. He then makes fun of Jericho for losing to Fandango at WrestleMania 29. The four argue over who are the better friends before Owens leaves, but not before Owens says That 70's Show would've been better with him & Jericho. Kutcher says he & Masterson will be on commentary for their match tonight with the New Day, so Jericho warns them to watch themselves before they get...and he walks off...only to appear on the other side of them to tell them...IT! Chris Jericho is literally the best. Please never leave, Chris Jericho. Fozzy's not worth it, dude.
  • The New Day vs Jeri-KO-Jericho & Woods start with Jericho taking control. Owens fakes a senton twice, only for Woods to dodge it when he goes for it a third time. Owens maintains control and the heels continue to beat down Woods until Woods hits the Honor Roll on Jericho. Big E tags in and knocks Owens down, only to go shoulder-first into the ring post. Jericho tags in and works over Big E. Big E starts slapping Jericho, but Jericho comes back with a dropkick. Jeri-KO go to work on Big E. Woods eventually gets the hot tag, but Owens is able to cut him off and locks in a headlock. The heels continue to work over Woods until Woods blocks a superplex attempt by Jericho and hits a crossbody for a near fall. Owens manages to stop the hot tag to Big E, but Rollins comes out and stares down Owens. The distraction allows Woods to hit an enziguri and make the hot tag to Big E. Big E suplexes Jericho around the ring before going for the big splash. Owens cuts it off with a superkick only to get taken out by Woods with a tope. Big E hits the big splash and calls for the Midnight Hour, but Owens yanks Big E down on the rope. Jericho locks in the Liontamer on Woods, but Rollins runs down and distracts Jericho. This allows the New Day to hit the Midnight Hour for the win. Good match, nice to see Rollins is still unofficial buddies with the New Day. After the match, Rollins hits the Pedigree on Jericho as Owens watches from the ramp.
  • Tom Phillips interviews Charlotte & Dana Brooke. Charlotte says she's the only reason Sasha Banks is in the main event and says she'll prove that Sasha is not her equal tonight.
  • Backstage, Stephanie McMahon scolds Seth Rollins for showing up tonight before pointing out that Rollins is all alone for the first time in his career. Rollins says he wants his rematch with Kevin Owens.
  • Rich Swann vs Tony Nese-Swann toys with Nese before locking in a headlock. Nese powers out and the two have a back and forth ending with Swann hitting a big dropkick. Nese does incredible stuff, including jumping right up to the top turnbuckle and flipping over Swann. Nese hits a big roundhouse kick to the back of Swann's head and counters a sunset flip with a kick to the neck for a near fall. Nese continues to beat down Swann before locking in a body lock. Swann fights back before hitting a standing avalanche-Frankenstiener on Nese on the top rope. Nese catches Swann and throws him into the top rope before hitting a pumphandle driver for the win. Good little match. Nese is flat-out incredible, glad WWE picked him up after the Cruiserweight Classic.
  • We get a vignette hyping the return of Emma, or as the vignette put it, "The Makeover of Emma to Emmalina" will be "Premiering Soon." I don't know what that's about, but glad to see Emma finally coming back soon.
  • Cesaro & Sheamus vs Two Jobbers Whose Names I Didn't Bother To Listen For-Yeah, it's more of the same; Sheamus & Cesaro bicker before Sheamus Brogue Kicks one guy for the win. There was one cool spot where Sheamus leaned over and Cesaro jumped off his back and hit a diving DDT on one of the guys.
  • Before the main event, Charlotte makes fun of Bayley. Dana pats Bayley on the head and threatens her, only for Bayley to throw Dana into a crate and hurt her knee.
  • Charlotte (c) vs Sasha Banks for the RAW Women's Championship-Sasha tosses Charlotte from the ring and despite having her first attempt blocked, hits a suicide dive on the second attempt before a commercial break. We come back to Charlotte working over the back of Sasha. Charlotte batters Sasha's back for a long time until Sasha fights back with JENNA MORASCA SLAPS. For shame, Sasha. For shame. Sasha runs wild and hits a double knee facebreaker for a near fall. Sasha hits a hurricanrana and sends Charlotte out of the ring. Charlotte then, confusingly, pulls Sasha off the ring apron...just to throw her onto it again. Sasha blocks the Figure 8 and goes the top rope, but Charlotte yanks her down onto the top rope, kicks her into the corner, and hits a big boot for a near fall. Charlotte sets up Sasha on the top rope, but Sasha blocks the superplex and hits a double knee senton for a near fall. Sasha goes for a backstabber, but Charlotte grabs the ropes and sends Sasha to the outside. Charlotte goes to the top rope and hits a corkscrew moonsault. F*ck, it looked awesome. Charlotte rolls Sasha back in and hits Natural Selection, but only gets a two count. Honestly, would've been fine if it ended right there. Charlotte smacks Sasha around, only for Sasha to lock in the Bank Statement off a tilt-a-whirl. Charlotte rolls over for the pin only for Sasha to keep the hold locked in and get off her back. Charlotte taps out, giving Sasha the win and the Women's Championship for the second time! Great main event, what a match! The story, the in-ring action, the psychology, all fantastic.

Worst in the World: The Gimmick Battle Royal-WrestleMania X-Seven

(Special thanks to Frost for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) WrestleMania X-Seven. Heavily considered the not just the best WrestleMania, but the greatest wrestling show of all time, WrestleMania X-Seven took place during the hottest period in the WWF's history, and features just about every one of the hottest acts in wrestling at the time. An undercard featuring the likes of Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, William Regal, Kane, and the Big Show. One of the biggest female stars in the history of wrestling in Chyna. A killer TLC match between the Dudley Boyz, the Hardy Boyz, and Edge & Christian. A wild brawl between The Undertaker and Triple H. A massive main event between Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock. Hell, even the father vs son Street Fight between Vince & Shane McMahon. It's a star-studded affair. However, there's one match that sticks out like

Worst in the World: The Last Rites Match-TNA Destination X 2007

(Special thanks to an anonymous user for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) An often discussed aspect of professional wrestling is the backstage politicking of Hulk Hogan. Throughout his career as a major attraction in wrestling, Hogan's philosophy has always been to protect Hulk Hogan...OK, sometimes he'd help Ed Leslie, but most of the time it was to protect Hulk Hogan. Because of that philosophy and Hogan's influence as a top guy, there have been multiple instances where a company's booking and other wrestlers have suffered as a result. Would having Mr. Perfect win the 1990 Royal Rumble made sense and could have elevated a rising star and potentially created a new main event player? Yes, but that would require Hogan to not win, and that doesn't work for Hogan, so he wins the Rumble even though he doesn't need elevating. Would booking Randy Orton to beat Hogan at SummerSlam 20

Worst in the World: D-Generation X vs Brothers of Destruction-Crown Jewel

This match didn't need to happen. After Triple H and the Undertaker had one of the most brutally bad matches of 2018 at Super Show-Down not even a month earlier, nobody wanted to see them try to wrestle again. Also, nobody wanted to see Shawn Michaels come out of retirement after his fantastic sendoff in 2010, especially for a match like this. But here we are, Triple H & Shawn Michaels facing The Undertaker & Kane in 2018. The combined ages of these four at the time is 206. That's a number you'd expect to see from a match at Heroes of Wrestling. And anyone can come up with their own reason as to why this match is happening, but that would just be ignoring the actual reason. For those of you who don't know, Crown Jewel was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. That might not seem like important information, but you can't really discuss this match without mentioning it. Despite the numerous reasons that running shows in Saudi Arabia is morally wrong (their abuse

Worst in the World: What is the Worst Wrestling Match of All Time?

Note: This series is based off a YouTube series " The Search for the Worst " by I Hate Everything, where he reviews every movie on IMDB's Bottom 100. It's a great, funny series and I'd recommend checking it out. Have you ever just thought to yourself "What is the worst match of all time?"? I don't mean something like a boring John Cena-Randy Orton match, I mean a match where the wrestlers have zero chemistry, little wrestling ability, or literally no idea what they are actually doing. I've thought about this for a while, and I've decided to finally figure it out. So I'm going to watch any match that is: a) A winner of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Award for the Worst Worked Match of the Year. or:  b) Listed on the 100 worst rated wrestling matches of all time on the Internet Wrestling Database .   (Note: Some matches appear on awards that aren't on the list.) There are 115 (EDIT: Now 99)  matches on here. I pu

Worst in the World: Trash at the Beach

Click the link here to vote in the poll and help decide the next edition of the Worst in the World. Just over a month ago, I briefly covered the massive success the WWF was having in 1999. Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock are at the top of the card. Triple H is on the rise to the main event. Mankind is playing the ultimate likable & respected babyface. Names like the Undertaker, Kane, and the Big Show are all major players. The undercard is stacked with big names like D-Generation X, D'Lo Brown, and Ken Shamrock, rising stars like The Hardy Boyz and Edge & Christian, and new signings like Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho, and the Dudley Boyz. The WWF was so red hot in 1999 that even an all-time bad WrestleMania in WrestleMania XV couldn't slow them down. But there was one other factor that made 1999 such a good year for the WWF; the fact that their main competitor, WCW, was beginning to crack. At the same time the WWF was reaching the highest heights they'd ever reache
