My Thoughts on RAW (10/10/16): Splash Zone

  • We kick off the show with Sasha Banks. She says she would watch her idol Eddie Guerrero lie, cheat, and steal and that she wanted to do what he did. She says women like Trish Stratus & Lita inspired her and last week she became the two-time Women's Champion. She says she did it not just for herself, but for all the women and girls who look up to her. Sasha says Charlotte gets a rematch, so she proposes that Charlotte gets her rematch in Hell in a Cell...inside Hell in a Cell. Charlotte comes out, only for Rusev & Lana to come out right after her. Rusev says no one cares about the women's revolution or that Sasha & Charlotte main evented RAW because he is the main event. Charlotte takes his mic and says no one disrespects her before accepting Sasha's challenge. Rusev takes the mic back and says the ring is his before Sasha takes his mic and spikes it. Rusev & Sasha argue before Lana grabs the mic and says Sasha & Charlotte whine like little girls. Sasha & Charlotte attack Lana before dropkicking Rusev out of the ring. Rusev gets back in, only for Roman Reigns to come out. Rusev looks ready to fight but leaves the ring before anything happens. Reigns' music plays to close out the segment.
  • Kofi Kingston vs Cesaro-Pre-match, Big E feeds people Booty-Os that he keeps in his singlet. That...happened. The New Day name drop some famous brothers from the bay area before complimenting Cesaro and saying Sheamus is hot garbage. They say they will show Cesaro & Sheamus why they're the best because NEW...DAY ROCKS. The two kick off with a quick exchange, ending with Cesaro tossing Kofi from the ring and doing a 619 fakeout. Meanwhile, Sheamus sits on the ring steps while he goes on Facebook Live. That's not a joke, he actually went live on Facebook while the match was going on. I'm pretty sure he stole someone's drink. Kofi sends Cesaro out of the ring with tilt-a-whirl headscissors before faking a dive of his own. Cesaro & The New Day square off outside the ring before the commercial break. We come back to Kofi hitting a double jump crossbody for a near fall. Kofi hits the Boom Drop and calls for Trouble in Paradise, but Cesaro dodges and hits two uppercuts for a near fall. Cesaro goes through the Uppercut Train before hitting a big boot for a near fall. Cesaro goes for a Sharpshooter, but Kofi escapes and botches a springboard, hurting his knee in the process. Cesaro goes for the Cesaro Swing but gets distracted by Sheamus grabbing Francesca II at ringside. Woods takes it back, so Sheamus shoves him, only to get body checked to the ground by Big E. This distraction allows Kofi to counter the Cesaro Swing and roll up Cesaro for the win. Fine match, I hope Kofi isn't hurt too bad. After the match, Cesaro & Sheamus argue before Sheamus walks off.
  • Bayley vs Cami Fields-The two exchange holds before Bayley hits a hip toss followed by a low clothesline. Bayley hits a diving arm drag, but goes face first into the turnbuckle after Fields dodges a corner splash. Fields counters a sunset flip with a kick, but quickly eats a Bayley-to-Belly afterward. After the match, Dana Brooke attacks Bayley from behind.
  • Backstage, Chris Jericho is talking on the phone about getting a payday. R-Truth interrupts him to give him a Payday bar, but Jericho tells him that's not the payday he wants.
  • Lince Dorado & Sin Cara vs Tony Nese & Drew Gulak-Yes, they're finally mixing the cruiserweights with the other RAW superstars. Sin Cara announced on the pre-show that he was joining the cruiserweight division. Dorado & Gulak start off with Dorado hitting a hurricanrana. Gulak tags out and the faces take control until Nese forces Dorado into his corner. The heels double team Dorado, complete with Gulak locking in a Gory Special. Dorado hits a double handspring back elbow on Gulak & Nese before Sin Cara gets the hot tag. Sin Cara flies around the ring before hitting a schoolboy powerbomb on Gulak, but Nese breaks up the pin. Dorado tags in while Sin Cara take out Nese with a suicide dive. Dorado hits a spinning heel kick followed by a shooting star press for the win. Fine little match, nothing special.
  • Backstage, Mick Foley runs into Stephanie McMahon. She asks to join Foley for his Hell in a Cell announcement, and Foley agrees.
  • After a commercial break, Foley & Stephanie are out in the ring for the Hell in a Cell announcement. Stephanie says Hell in a Cell will be better than No Mercy before turning it over the Foley. Foley says Charlotte & Sasha deserve to make history and announces that Sasha Banks vs Charlotte will take place inside Hell in a Cell. Foley also announces Rollins will get his rematch against Kevin Owens for the Universal Championship inside Hell in a Cell. OK, two Hell in a Cell matches might be a bit too much, but three is definitely too much. Kind of devalues the match when you do so many of them in one night. Outcomes Kevin Owens & Chris Jericho. Owens blasts Foley for booking him in a Hell in a Cell match because he wants to have a long career ad not end up like Foley. Owens says Rollins doesn't deserve a rematch and Jericho says Foley is doing this because he doesn't like himself and is taking it out on Foley. Jericho adds that Foley just made the List of Jericho again, and then a third time. Jericho asks Stephanie to take care of Foley, but Stephanie tells him to show Foley respect. Stephanie says that she thinks RAW can do a triple threat better than RAW and proposes that if Jericho beats Seth Rollins tonight, then he gets added to the Universal Championship match at Hell in a Cell, which Foley agrees to.
  • Backstage, Seth Rollins gets interviewed. Rollins says that he's going to keep it a one-on-one match at Hell in a Cell and ruin Stephanie's plan. Rollins just says "obsolete", and a bunch of people start yelling "DELETE!" Rollins says he's no longer a piece in the game or a cog in the machine, but he's the man who's going to destroy the machine piece by piece.
  • Enzo Amore & Big Cass vs Bo Dallas & Curtis Axel-It's the Social Outcasts reunion nobody was asking for....except NOPE! Gallows & Anderson blindside Enzo & Cass, hitting the Boot of Doom on Enzo and the Magic Killer on Cass.
  • We come back from commercial and Dallas & Axel are still in the ring demanding a match. Outcomes Sami Zayn & Neville to accept the challenge.
  • Bo Dallas & Curtis Axel vs Sami Zayn & Neville-Dallas & Zayn kick off with Dallas beating down on Zayn. Axel tags in and do more of the same. Zayn flips out of a backbody drop before hitting an exploder suplex on Axel followed by a Helluva Kick. He tags in Neville for the Red Arrow for the win, all as Bo watches without trying to break up the pin. Bo walks out without Axel. In regards to Zayn & Neville as a team, I'd rather see both of them doing big things as singles stars, but if WWE isn't going to do anything with them, a team is a good idea in my opinion.
  • Backstage, Charlotte is warming up before being confronted by Lana. Lana blasts Charlotte for putting her hands on her, but Charlotte just tells her to stay out of her way. Lana tells Charlotte to stay out of Rusev's way tonight.
  • R-Truth vs Titus O'Neil-The reason this match is happening is because Truth got a sponsorship from Payday that Titus wanted. Oh god, it's the shampoo feud all over again. Truth takes down Titus with a double leg takedown, but Titus quickly takes over. Titus hits a body slam for a near fall. Titus hits a backbreaker before he gets distracted by Goldust stomping on the stairs. The distraction allows Truth to get the roll up for the win.
  • Backstage, Brian Kendrick & TJ Perkins talk. Perkins says he knows who Brian Kendrick really is and says Kendrick is afraid while making video game references. Perkins says he doesn't need to use cheap shots to win and talks about the two going on road trips and getting picked up for matches. Perkins says it's not late for him to be "The Brian Kendrick." They shake hands, only for Kendrick to try to blindside him. Perkins was ready and punches him back, saying he was wrong. Seemed like a scene straight out of a high school sports drama.
  • Braun Strowman vs The Splash Brothers-Just...look at these guys:
What the hell am I looking at? So, we've got Carrot Top with a Hulk Hogan mustache in Zubaz and black Tyler Breeze in furry trunks and boots. What more do I need to say? I laughed for like a solid minute straight. I didn't even pay attention to the match I was laughing so hard. I know Strowman won because...I mean, look at them. Post-match, Strowman tells Foley to get him better competition or else what happens next will be on his hands. I'm assuming the Splash Brothers returned to Hoodslam after this. Oh, and by the way, their names were Steven & Clay Splash. And they were in Oakland. As a Cavs fan, I appreciate that, WWE.
  • Backstage, Roman Reigns & Sasha Banks talk about their match tonight
  • Charlotte & Rusev vs Sasha Banks & Roman Reigns-Rusev & Reigns start off, only for Charlotte to quickly tag in. Rusev then tags back in and he & Reigns locks up. Rusev hits a spinning heel kick for a near fall before stomping on Reigns in the corner. Reigns fights back with a clothesline followed by a leaping clothesline. Reigns does more clotheslines in the corner before hitting a big kick. Reigns wanks his fist and calls for the Superman Punch, but Charlotte distracts him. Sasha takes out Charlotte and Reigns tosses Rusev out of the ring before the commercial break. We come back to Rusev working over Reigns. Reigns fights back and hits a Superman Punch before Charlotte blind tags Rusev out. Sasha comes in and runs wild on Charlotte, hitting the double knee drop in the corner for a near fall before reversing a roll up into a Bank Statement. Reigns jumps over both of them and hits Rusev with a spear to stop him from breaking it up and Charlotte taps out. Fine little match, nothing special.
  • Kevin Owens & Chris Jericho are talking when Owens senses a stupid question from Tom Phillips coming. Tom Phillips is behind him and Owens says he'll walk out of Hell in a Cell as the champion regardless of the match. Phillips brings up Owens not helping Jericho last week when he got attacked by Seth Rollins, and Owens says they both know one of them has to be healthy so they can both be Universal Champion. Owens tells Phillips to leave, and Jericho puts him on the List of Jericho as "Phillipe Thomastein."
  • Outcomes Paul Heyman. He addresses Goldberg's comments about wanting to come back to face Brock Lesnar again. He says everytime a big guy in WWE got on a roll, the crowd would chant Goldberg. He says Goldberg conquered everyone he stepped in the ring with and that it keeps Brock Lesnar up at night that Goldberg has a 1-0 record against him. Heyman throws down the challenge; Brock Lesnar vs Goldberg. Anytime. Any place. Heyman says Goldberg can remain the one blemish on Lesnar's career by not fighting, or he can be victimized in the ring.
  • We get another vignette for the "Makeover of Emma into Emmalina". Apparently, her new gimmick is just showing off all her Instagram pictures...not that I'm complaining.
  • TJ Perkins vs Ariya Daivari-Daivari rushes Perkins to start, only for Perkins to make Daivari fall out of the ring. Daivari hits a crossbody block, but Perkins comes back with a  diving crossbody and hurricanrana before locking in the knee bar. Daivari gets to the ropes and takes out Perkins with a high knee. Daivari locks in a headlock and counters Perkins comeback with a neckbreaker for a near fall. Daivari starts slapping Perkins, who comes back with a wheelbarrow bulldog and a neckbreaker. Perkins hits a fireman's carry drop into a kick for a near fall before going to the top rope. Daivari sits down on a sunset flip attempt for a near fall before hitting a rolling elbow followed by a superkick for a near fall. Daivari hurts his knee off a missed splash, allowing Perkins to hit a springboard dropkick before locking in a kneebar for the win. Good match.
  • Backstage, Chris Jericho runs into Stephanie McMahon backstage. Stephanie says she's rooting for him tonight before Jericho confesses he thought about putting Stephanie on the List of Jericho, but didn't because he doesn't really know how to spell Stephanie. Stephanie says that if Jericho & Owens are in the Hell in a Cell together, he'll know what to do. Owens walks up after Stephanie walks away, asking what that was about. Jericho says "Friendship".
  • Goldberg tweets out that he'll be on RAW next week to answer Paul Heyman's challenge.
  • Chris Jericho vs Seth Rollins-Jericho throws his scarf in Rollins' face, so Rollins beats him down and wipes his ass with the scarf. Rollins hits a snapmare followed by a kick before Jericho hides behind the referee. Rollins hits a second rope Blockbuster for a near fall before Jericho ducks out of the ring. Rollins responds with a kick through the ropes and throws Jericho into the barricade before hitting a double axe handle off the ring apron. Rollins throws Jericho into the stairs before rolling him back in the ring, only for Kevin Owens to come out. The distraction allows Jericho to suplex Rollins onto the ropes before the commercial break. We come back to Jericho working over Rollins, including hanging up on the top rope and kicking him, making him do a Shawn Michaels SummerSlam 2005 bump. Rollins fights back with strikes before Jericho locks in an abdominal stretch. Rollins escapes with an arm drag and hits a corner STO. Rollins hits an enziguri followed by a Sling Blade for a near fall. Jericho fights back by targeting Rollins's ribs, but Rollins fights back with a backbreaker. Rollins goes to the top rope, but Jericho meets him there. Rollins blocks a superplex and goes for a crossbody, but Jericho counters with a dropkick for another near fall. Rollins blocks a Codebreaker and hits a superkick for another nearfall. Rollins hits a high knee on Jericho before Owens distracts Rollins. Jericho catches Rollins off a springboard and locks in the Walls of Jericho. Rollins makes it to the ropes, but Owens superkicks Rollins while Jericho distracts the referee for a near fall. Rollins dodges a springboard dropkick and hits a suicide dive on Owens. Rollins hits a springboard high knee, even landing on Jericho, but Jericho kicks out again. Rollins goes for a Frog Splash, but Jericho dodges and hits the Lionsault for another near fall. Jericho goes to the top rope, but Rollins meets him up there. Jericho knocks him back down and goes for a flying nothing, only to get superkicked. Rollins goes for the Pedigree, but Jericho counters and goes for the Walls of Jericho. Rollins counters and rolls up Jericho for the win. Great match, very dramatic. After the match, Owens beats down Rollins. Rollins reverses a Pop-Up Powerbomb and goes for the Pedigree, but Jericho saves Owens, only to get a Pedigree himself as Owens walks off. Rollins stands tall to close the show.

Worst in the World: The Gimmick Battle Royal-WrestleMania X-Seven

(Special thanks to Frost for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) WrestleMania X-Seven. Heavily considered the not just the best WrestleMania, but the greatest wrestling show of all time, WrestleMania X-Seven took place during the hottest period in the WWF's history, and features just about every one of the hottest acts in wrestling at the time. An undercard featuring the likes of Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, William Regal, Kane, and the Big Show. One of the biggest female stars in the history of wrestling in Chyna. A killer TLC match between the Dudley Boyz, the Hardy Boyz, and Edge & Christian. A wild brawl between The Undertaker and Triple H. A massive main event between Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock. Hell, even the father vs son Street Fight between Vince & Shane McMahon. It's a star-studded affair. However, there's one match that sticks out like

Worst in the World: The Last Rites Match-TNA Destination X 2007

(Special thanks to an anonymous user for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) An often discussed aspect of professional wrestling is the backstage politicking of Hulk Hogan. Throughout his career as a major attraction in wrestling, Hogan's philosophy has always been to protect Hulk Hogan...OK, sometimes he'd help Ed Leslie, but most of the time it was to protect Hulk Hogan. Because of that philosophy and Hogan's influence as a top guy, there have been multiple instances where a company's booking and other wrestlers have suffered as a result. Would having Mr. Perfect win the 1990 Royal Rumble made sense and could have elevated a rising star and potentially created a new main event player? Yes, but that would require Hogan to not win, and that doesn't work for Hogan, so he wins the Rumble even though he doesn't need elevating. Would booking Randy Orton to beat Hogan at SummerSlam 20

Worst in the World: D-Generation X vs Brothers of Destruction-Crown Jewel

This match didn't need to happen. After Triple H and the Undertaker had one of the most brutally bad matches of 2018 at Super Show-Down not even a month earlier, nobody wanted to see them try to wrestle again. Also, nobody wanted to see Shawn Michaels come out of retirement after his fantastic sendoff in 2010, especially for a match like this. But here we are, Triple H & Shawn Michaels facing The Undertaker & Kane in 2018. The combined ages of these four at the time is 206. That's a number you'd expect to see from a match at Heroes of Wrestling. And anyone can come up with their own reason as to why this match is happening, but that would just be ignoring the actual reason. For those of you who don't know, Crown Jewel was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. That might not seem like important information, but you can't really discuss this match without mentioning it. Despite the numerous reasons that running shows in Saudi Arabia is morally wrong (their abuse

Worst in the World: What is the Worst Wrestling Match of All Time?

Note: This series is based off a YouTube series " The Search for the Worst " by I Hate Everything, where he reviews every movie on IMDB's Bottom 100. It's a great, funny series and I'd recommend checking it out. Have you ever just thought to yourself "What is the worst match of all time?"? I don't mean something like a boring John Cena-Randy Orton match, I mean a match where the wrestlers have zero chemistry, little wrestling ability, or literally no idea what they are actually doing. I've thought about this for a while, and I've decided to finally figure it out. So I'm going to watch any match that is: a) A winner of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Award for the Worst Worked Match of the Year. or:  b) Listed on the 100 worst rated wrestling matches of all time on the Internet Wrestling Database .   (Note: Some matches appear on awards that aren't on the list.) There are 115 (EDIT: Now 99)  matches on here. I pu

Worst in the World: Trash at the Beach

Click the link here to vote in the poll and help decide the next edition of the Worst in the World. Just over a month ago, I briefly covered the massive success the WWF was having in 1999. Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock are at the top of the card. Triple H is on the rise to the main event. Mankind is playing the ultimate likable & respected babyface. Names like the Undertaker, Kane, and the Big Show are all major players. The undercard is stacked with big names like D-Generation X, D'Lo Brown, and Ken Shamrock, rising stars like The Hardy Boyz and Edge & Christian, and new signings like Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho, and the Dudley Boyz. The WWF was so red hot in 1999 that even an all-time bad WrestleMania in WrestleMania XV couldn't slow them down. But there was one other factor that made 1999 such a good year for the WWF; the fact that their main competitor, WCW, was beginning to crack. At the same time the WWF was reaching the highest heights they'd ever reache
