We finally get to come back into some nWo in fighting. We've already looked at the terrible three team WarGames match and the Hulk Hogan/Randy Savage match where Savage both sided with and turned his back on the nWo, so now we get another, much lower-profile match-up between nWo Hollywood and nWo Wolfpac. It's Booker T's much less talented brother & slap jack enthusiast Stevie Ray of Hollywood taking on Konnan of the Wolfpac at World War 3 1998. Let's get into this.
The match kicks off with lots of posing before Stevie Ray starts beating down Konnan in the corner. Stevie Ray definitely exceeds a five count, but the referee doesn't disqualify him because "WCW." After almost 40 seconds of that, Stevie Ray throws Konnan into the other corner, but Konnan gets his feet up and hits a somersault clothesline. Konnan stomps away at Stevie Ray before locking in an armbar. Stevie Ray fights back up and takes Konnan down with a superkick. Tony Schiavone says that Konnan "blocked that kick, but he still went down." Go home, Schiavone, you're breaking kayfabe.
Stevie Ray tosses Konnan out of the ring, allowing Vincent to hit Konnan in the back. Stevie Ray continues to beat down Konnan and distract the referee, allowing Vincent to beat down Konnan. Stevie Ray locks in a chin lock and the referee does the raise the hand spot. Konnan keeps the hand up on the third drop, fights out, and counters a hip toss with a backslide. Stevie Ray clotheslines Konnan to the ground and body slams him, but Konnan dodges an elbow drop and hits a facebuster. Stevie Ray pokes Konnan in the eye and calls for Vincent to use the slap jack. Konnan reverses an Irish whip and sends Stevie Ray into Vincent, causing him to hit the slap jack. Konnan starts beating down Stevie Ray, and the referee tries to stop him because "reasons." Konnan shoves him off and gets DQ'd. After the match, Booker T runs out to help his brother, but Stevie Ray rejects his help.
The Verdict
It's lame, not much else to say. Neither man's offense or selling looked good and that's about it. Far from the worst, but still bad.

Stevie waa only good in Harlem Heat. The guy has AWFUL embarrassingly bad solo matches. If you think the ww3 match it bad they met again at uncensored 99 and it was even worse. Stevie flat out can't work his way out of a wet paper bag. I blame stevie more than konnan because it looked like Konnan was trying to carry him.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. Even in Harlem Heat, you could tell that Booker was the one who could really work.
DeleteHey, sorry I'm replying again so long after you commented, but do you mean their match at Slamboree 1999? I looked up Uncensored 1999 and the card doesn't say they wrestled there.
DeleteIt was tolerable in Harlem heat but by seeing him solo was sad. Not that he was anything special in Harlem heat but it was a great tag team. Seems like had hit a power decline as he aged and accumulated injuries that really became noticable sometime in the late 90s. He was never a worker but he at least was strong enough to be the power house in a good tag team. I believe he had some muscle injuries that legitimately zapped his power.
