My Thoughts on RAW (3/27/16): Death of a Superhero

  • We kick off the show with Bayley. She says WrestleMania gives her butterflies and says that the odds are stacked against her in a Fatal 4-Way, which is now an elimination match. She is interrupted by Charlotte, who calls her a paper champion and says Sasha Banks made her a pawn. She says Sasha helped Bayley win the title so she could get back in the title picture and that she should still be the Women's Champion. She says she'll win the title at WrestleMania and that Bayley will have nothing after WrestleMania. She then throws up a tweet from Sasha Banks saying "keep your friends close and your enemies closer", saying she used Charlotte and now she's using Bayley. This brings out Sasha Banks, who says Charlotte is just trying to stir the pot and that she'll beat both Charlotte & Bayley at WrestleMania. Nia Jax then comes out, who says their drama is pathetic and that she'll eliminate every one of them. Charlotte says Nia's only in the match because Sasha didn't interfere in her match against Bayley. This causes Sasha to attack Charlotte before all four women brawl.
  • Bayley & Sasha Banks vs Charlotte & Nia Jax-Sasha & Charlotte start off by locking up and fighting out of the ring. They quickly go back in the ring, where Sasha hits a Thesz Press before locking in a straightjacket surfboard. Charlotte fights out and throws Sasha out of the ring before tagging in Nia. Sasha goes for a sunset flip, but Nia stands tall, only for Sasha to avoid it when Nia tries to sit down on her. Bayley tags in for a double dropkick, but the heels quickly take control. Bayley turns the tables by ramming Charlotte's head into the corner for a near fall, but misses on the double jump crossbody, allowing Charlotte to take control. Charlotte goes for the Figure 8, but Bayley blocks it and tags in Sasha. Sasha runs wild, hitting a diving crossbody for a near fall before Nia makes a blind tag. Sasha rolls up Charlotte, but she's not legal, so Nia can take control by setting Sasha up on the top rope and knock her down to the outside. After a commercial break, we come back to Charlotte dropping a knee on Sasha. The heels control the match until Sasha takes Charlotte down with tilt-a-whirl headscissors and throws her into Nia. Bayley gets the hot tag, hits a stunner through the ropes, but gets floored with a knee by Charlotte. Bayley comes back with a side suplex for a near fall before going to the top rope, only for Charlotte to yank her down and drop a knee on Bayley's leg. Charlotte locks in the Figure 8, but Sasha breaks it up. Sasha then Nia out of the match before Bayley hits the Bayley-to-Belly for the win. Pretty good match. After the match, Nia attacks Sasha, Bayley, and Charlotte before holding up the Women's Championship.
  • Charly Caruso interviews Sami Zayn. He says it's been weird not having Mick Foley around but now he has to stand up for what is right and takes the toughest challenges. He announces he's participating in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, but Stephanie McMahon walks up and says he has to earn his spot...in a No Disqualifications match against Kevin Owens. And if he loses, he's fired.
  • Austin Aries vs Noam Dar with Alicia Fox-Dar blows a kiss to Fox on the outside, only to get caught with a corner dropkick from Aries. Dar rolls out of the ring before the commercial break. We come back to Dar stomping a mudhole in Aries in the corner. Dar controls the match until Aries hits a tilt-a-whirl facebuster. Aries fires up, hits two clotheslines, a gutbuster, and an STO before booting Dar out of the ring for a suicide dive. Aries hits a middle rope neckbreaker before removing his elbow pad. However, an Alicia Fox distraction allows Dar to get a near fall off a roll up. Aries responds with a huge forearm, followed by a discuss forearm before yelling at Neville. Aries finishes Dar off with the Last Chancery for the submission win. Another pretty good match.
  • Outcomes Seth Rollins to sign a "hold harmless agreement" for a match with Triple H at WrestleMania. Rollins limps out on a crutch and calls out Triple H. Trips comes out and warns Rollins not to attack him because he will defend himself and the match will be off. Triple H refuses to read the contract until Rollins sits down, which he does. Trips says that he will destroy Rollins at WrestleMania and by signing the contract, Rollins can't sue anyone for letting him wrestle. Triple H says the fans are jealous of success and says Rollins is literally a one-legged man in an ass-kicking contest. He says not competing will cause Rollins to miss his second straight WrestleMania, but if Rollins does walk into WrestleMania, he won't walk out. Rollins says he's not falling for the same crap Triple H told him three years ago and says he was proud of himself before he met Trips. He says he loves wrestling and this isn't about revenge, it's about redemption. He says he gave up everything to stand next to Triple H and says he will have to rip his leg off to stop him from destroying him. Rollins signed the contract and Triple H starts to walk off, only for Triple H to push the table into his bad knee. Triple H grabs the crutch, but Rollins catches him with an enziguri. Rollins goes for the Pedigree, but Triple H hits his knee. Trips goes for one of his own, but Rollins back body drops him out of the ring and smacks him with the crutch when he tries to get back in the ring.
  • Over the Top Rope Challenge
    • Big Show vs Jinder Mahal-Big Show almost throws Jinder right over the top rope, but Jinder fights back, only to get thrown right over
    • Big Show vs Bo Dallas-Dallas takes the fight right to Big Show, only to be thrown out very quickly
    • Big Show vs The Shining Stars-The Stars use their two-on-one advantage, only to get thrown right over the top rope. After that, Goldust, R-Truth, and Curtis Axel run down before all the eliminated men re-enter the ring and throw Big Show out. Big Show re-enters and chokeslams & knocks out everyone. Show's music plays but is cut off by Braun Strowman, who says if he wanted to, he'd come down to the ring and kick Big Show's ass. However, he won't, and says he'll wait until WrestleMania. This was pointless.
  • Mike Rome interviews Tex Ferguson & Chad 2 Badd...I mean Gallows & Anderson. They blame Enzo & Cass for their loss last week and calls them stupid.
  • Charly Caruso interviews Roman Reigns. He says he's not scared of the Undertaker and says he'll go tell the entire world what he's going to do at WrestleMania.
  • Mike Rome interviews Cesaro & Sheamus. They say they knew they were going to win last week, only to be attacked by Gallows & Anderson. They attack them with conveniently placed ladders before walking off. I don't understand, though. Why didn't Anderson just scrap up enough money to pay Greg Valentine to put Cesaro & Sheamus in arm bars for two and a half hours?
  • Neville vs Gentleman Jack Gallagher-The two circle eachother before Neville locks in a headlock, which Gallagher escapes with a handstand walk. Gallagher gets a near fall off a roll up before flooring Neville with a shoulder tackle, which Neville kips up right after. The two trade moves before Neville hits a huge release German suplex before the commercial break. We come back to Neville kicking away at Gallagher until Gallagher hits a nasty headbutt. Gallagher grabs William the Umbrella and goes to the top rope for a diving seated senton. Back in the ring, Neville throws Gallager into the corner before hitting a superkick. Neville pulls Gallagher up to the top rope for a superplex before locking the in Rings of Saturn fo the submission win. Another good match. After the match, we get a special "Austin Aries News Report." He brings over the New Day, who say the winner will be the one who can move their hips the best. Aries & The New Day chant and dance to close out the show.
  • Roman Reigns comes out. Boo. The crowd boos when he brings up the fact that he won the Royal Rumble in this arena and that he main evented WrestleMania twice. He says the Undertaker is his biggest challenge yet and says he'll do what no one else could do; he's going to put the Undertaker down. No one could do that? Brock Lesnar might think otherwise. He says this is his yard now before the gong hits. The Undertaker says the Roman Empire will fall at WrestleMania while digging a grave for Reigns. Taker says that at WrestleMania, Reigns will...the lights go out...and Taker is in the ring when they come back on. Taker says "Rest. In. Piece." Fade to black.
And that's about it. Come back tomor...the show's not over? Wow, that really felt like a show-closing segment. My mistake. Back to the show.
  • Enzo Amore & Big Cass vs Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson...NOPE! Cesaro & Sheamus come out and attack Gallows & Anderson with a ladder before taking the fight to Enzo & Cass. Cass stands tall, but Gallows & Anderson recover and batter everyone with the ladder.
  • Charly Caruso interviews Kevin Owens. He cuts her off when she says Chris Jericho was his former best friend before saying Jericho was never his friend or his hero. He says Jericho was right to make fun of him for being a Chris Jericho fan because Jericho fans are idiots. He says he's going to rip Sami Zayn apart, which is something he's wanted to do for a long time.
  • Kevin Owens vs Sami Zayn-If Zayn wins, he's in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. If Zayn loses, he's fired-Owens takes the fight right to Zayn at the start. The two go back and forth before taking the fight to the outside. Owens throws Zayn's jacket at him before throwing him at the barricade. Zayn lands on the barricade, but Owens pushes him into the crowd. The two fight into the crowd before Owens throws Zayn into the announce table and onto the stage. Zayn kicks him off and hits a somersault dive off the stage before the commercial break. We come back to Zayn taking apart the steps, only for Owens to give him a DDT on them followed by a senton off them. Owens throws Zayn back into the ring for a near fall before clotheslining him in the corner. Owens goes for the cannonball, but Zayn catches him and gives him an exploder suplex into the corner, causing him to land right on his head. Owens rolls out of the ring, leaving him prone for the tornado DDT through the turnbuckle. Back in the ring, Zayn goes for the Helluva Kick, but Owens catches him with a superkick for a near fall before hitting a frog splash for another near fall. Owens goes for the Pop-Up Powerbomb, but Zayn hops over him and hits the Blue Thunder Bomb for a near fall. At this time, Samoa Joe comes down to ringside and grabs a chair. This brings out Jericho, who enters through the crowd and batters Joe with the chair. Owens, distracted with Jericho, gets rolled up by Zayn for the win. Pretty good match, Owens & Zayn have had better, though. After the match, Owens beats up Zayn before Jericho chases him off with the chair. Jericho takes the mic and says that because Owens betrayed him...HE'S ON THE LIST! Jericho writes Owens' name on the new list of Jericho.
And that's about it. Stay tu...seriously, that's not the end of the show, either. OK...
  • We close the show...maybe...with Brock Lesnar & Paul Heyman. Heyman says the Universal Championship is the most prized possession on RAW and Brock Lesnar wants it. He says he respects Goldberg and says he is the man...but Lesnar is a beast. Heyman says Goldberg is going to Suplex City at WrestleMania and says the show should be renamed "WrestleMania 33: The Death of a Superhero." Goldberg comes out. He says people paid to see them fight, not talk. Goldberg drops the title at the top of the ramp and spears a charging Lesnar. Goldberg rips his shirt off and celebrates in the ring.

Worst in the World: The Last Rites Match-TNA Destination X 2007

(Special thanks to an anonymous user for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) An often discussed aspect of professional wrestling is the backstage politicking of Hulk Hogan. Throughout his career as a major attraction in wrestling, Hogan's philosophy has always been to protect Hulk Hogan...OK, sometimes he'd help Ed Leslie, but most of the time it was to protect Hulk Hogan. Because of that philosophy and Hogan's influence as a top guy, there have been multiple instances where a company's booking and other wrestlers have suffered as a result. Would having Mr. Perfect win the 1990 Royal Rumble made sense and could have elevated a rising star and potentially created a new main event player? Yes, but that would require Hogan to not win, and that doesn't work for Hogan, so he wins the Rumble even though he doesn't need elevating. Would booking Randy Orton to beat Hogan at SummerSlam 20

Worst in the World: The Gimmick Battle Royal-WrestleMania X-Seven

(Special thanks to Frost for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) WrestleMania X-Seven. Heavily considered the not just the best WrestleMania, but the greatest wrestling show of all time, WrestleMania X-Seven took place during the hottest period in the WWF's history, and features just about every one of the hottest acts in wrestling at the time. An undercard featuring the likes of Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, William Regal, Kane, and the Big Show. One of the biggest female stars in the history of wrestling in Chyna. A killer TLC match between the Dudley Boyz, the Hardy Boyz, and Edge & Christian. A wild brawl between The Undertaker and Triple H. A massive main event between Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock. Hell, even the father vs son Street Fight between Vince & Shane McMahon. It's a star-studded affair. However, there's one match that sticks out like

Worst in the World: D-Generation X vs Brothers of Destruction-Crown Jewel

This match didn't need to happen. After Triple H and the Undertaker had one of the most brutally bad matches of 2018 at Super Show-Down not even a month earlier, nobody wanted to see them try to wrestle again. Also, nobody wanted to see Shawn Michaels come out of retirement after his fantastic sendoff in 2010, especially for a match like this. But here we are, Triple H & Shawn Michaels facing The Undertaker & Kane in 2018. The combined ages of these four at the time is 206. That's a number you'd expect to see from a match at Heroes of Wrestling. And anyone can come up with their own reason as to why this match is happening, but that would just be ignoring the actual reason. For those of you who don't know, Crown Jewel was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. That might not seem like important information, but you can't really discuss this match without mentioning it. Despite the numerous reasons that running shows in Saudi Arabia is morally wrong (their abuse

Worst in the World: Nia Jax's Worst Matches

Click the link here to vote in the poll and help decide the next edition of the Worst in the World. Nia Jax's first run with the WWE can really only be described as hard to watch. Sure, she had a few stand-out matches, most notably (and surprisingly) her match with Ronda Rousey at Money in the Bank, and an underrated gem with Bayley at NXT TakeOver: London, but those were always outshined by her most infamous matches and moments. She's since returned to WWE and, for the most part, seems to have improved a bit, but the reputation she got from her initial run is gonna be hard to shake off. This week, I'll be looking at some of Jax's worst matches. These include just flat-out bad matches, and matches that have become infamous examples of her reckless in-ring work. Match #1: vs Charlotte Flair-April 10th, 2017 Raw The first match we'll be looking at is from the April 10, 2017 episode of Monday Night Raw, when Nia took on Charlotte Flair. The two had been on the losing e

Worst in the World: Carmella vs Asuka: How to Destroy an Aura

Throughout the entire history of the WWE, we've never seen, and probably will never see again, a woman booked as strong as Asuka was to start her run. Coming into WWE in 2015 with over a decade of experience wrestling in her native Japan as Kana, Asuka was immediately treated like a huge deal. Hell, even from the first time we saw her on a WWE broadcast, she was seated in the crowd of NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn next to two Hall of Famers in Ric Flair & Sgt. Slaughter. Officially debuting in October 2015, Asuka would go her entire NXT career, nearly two full years, without being pinned or submitted. She was booked so strong, in fact, that instead of dropping the NXT Women's Championship in what would be her last match in NXT at the time to Ember Moon (even after sustaining an injury), an act that is almost always the case for champions leaving NXT for the main roster, Asuka retained and later vacated the title, keeping her streak intact. For a company that is more than willing t
