RAW vs Nitro #30 (4/29/96)

Welcome back to another edition of RAW vs Nitro. Click here to read the last edition if you missed it. So let's get into it, this is RAW vs Nitro #30.
But first! A quick recap of In Your House 7: Good Friends, Better Enemies, which happened the night before this RAW
  • Owen Hart & The British Bulldog defeated Jake Roberts & Ahmed Johnson after the Bulldog hit Roberts knee with Jim Cornette's tennis racket before submitting Roberts with a standing kneebar
  • The Ultimate Warrior defeated Goldust in an Intercontinental Championship match by countout in one of the worst matches I've ever seen.
  • Vader defeated Razor Ramon after Vader sat on Ramon
  • The BodyDonnas retained the WWF Tag Team Championships against the Godwinns. Henry Godwinn got the visual three on Zip after a Slop Drop, but outside commotion between Sunny, Hillbilly Jim, and Phineas Godwinn caused the referee to miss the pin. Skip took the opportunity to switch places with Zip before rolling up Henry for the win.
  • Shawn Michaels defeated Diesel in a No Holds Barred match to retain the WWF Championship after hitting Sweet Chin Music. After the match,

RAW

  • Before the show, we see a clip from In Your House last night where the British Bulldog starts yelling about Shawn Michaels sleeping with his wife. Bulldog tries to confront Michaels after the main event, but security holds him off.
  • Mankind vs Bart Gunn-Mankind starts off the match by beating down Gunn around the ring. Mankind continues to control the match until Gunn dodges him in the corner, sending him right into the ring post. Gunn applies a wristlock before the two trade holds. Mankind tries for the Mandible Claw, but Gunn avoids by leaving the ring. The two brawl outside the ring before Mankind throws Gunn back in the ring. Mankind bodyslams Gunn, but Gunn dodges an elbow drop attempt and goes back to the wristlock. Mankind regains control and stomps away at Gunn before kicking him to outside before the commercial break. We come back to Gunn flooring Mankind with a shoulder tackle. Mankind responds by throwing Gunn out of the ring before clawing at his eyes. Back in the ring, Mankind starts beating down Gunn in the corner before hitting a running knee. Mankind continues to control the match. At one point, Mankind intentionally headbutts the guard rail. And hat's how you get CTE, everybody. Gunn fights back, clotheslining Mankind to the ground before going to the top rope for a missile dropkick for a near fall. Gunn follows up with a diving elbow drop for a near fall before going for the slowest ground and pound ever. Mankind takes this opportunity to lock in the Mandible Claw for the submission win. This was pretty boring, it shouldn't have taken Foley this long to beat Bart Gunn. Especially if he's being set up for a feud with the Undertaker. After the match, Jim Ross tries to interview Gunn, only for Mankind to attack him and reapply the Mandible Claw.
  • Steve Austin with Ted Dibiase vs Scott Taylor-Savio Vega is on commentary for this match, where he challenges Steve Austin to a Caribbean Strap match, which he describes as a match where "we strap the guys in the wrist and the other guys in the other side". At one point in this match, Austin swings Taylor around.
So that's why he likes Cesaro so much! Austin easily defeats the future Scotty 2 Hotty with the Million Dollar Dream. After the match, Vega officially challenges Austin to the strap match, but he refuses. Vega enters the ring and whips Austin out of it.
  • Vince McMahon interviews Jim Cornette, the British Bulldog and his wife, Diana Hart-Smith aka the woman who has the same reaction to. McMahon also brings out Shawn Michaels & Jose Lothario to address the accusations made about him by Bulldog. Cornette slings the allegation that Michaels tried to sleep with Diana, showing a video of Diana (who was in the crowd at In Your House) getting a message from an official telling her to come backstage. Cornette follows up saying that Michaels hit on Diana and tried to touch Diana's "most private parts." Diana says that she knows Michaels wants her, but Michaels says she shouldn't flatter herself. Diana slaps him before Michaels says Diana wears the pants in the Smith family. This causes Bulldog to attack Michaels and the two brawl.
  • The New Rockers vs The Godwinns with Hillbilly Jim-During the match, Sunny cuts a picture-in-picture promo, who runs down both team before saying she needs to get a closer look. Jannetty & Phineas start off with Jannetty controlling the match. Phineas is able to set Jannetty up on the top rope, but Jannetty is able to hop over him and hit an arm drag. The Rockers try to double team Phineas, but he overpowers them and goes mental, causing the Rockers to flee from the ring. After well over ten seconds outside the ring, Jannetty re-enters the ring, only to get battered by Phineas. During this, Sunny comes down to ringside with the Tag Team Championships before the commercial break. We come back to see the Rockers hit a double hip toss on Henry. The Rockers get the heat until Henry counters a diving fist drop by getting his boot up. Phineas gets the hot tag, only to get taken out of the ring with a crossbody from Leif Cassady. Sunny goes over Phineas, only for Hillbilly Jim to chase him off. During the commotion, the ref calls off the match, ruling it a double countout.
  • Jim Ross interviews Mankind in the basement. He explains the specifics of the Mandible Claw and how he learned how to perfect it. He says he's surprised how easily the Mandible Claw took down the Undertaker.
  • Isaac Yankem DDS with Jerry Lawler vs The Ultimate Warrior-HOW IS THE EVIL F*CKING DENTIST STILL HERE!? During his entrance, Warrior runs all the way down to ringside...then runs back up to the back...and then right back to the ring. Warrior dominates the match before throwing Yankem over the top rope and out of the ring. After a commercial break, Warrior runs wild on Yankem before hitting the Ultimate Splash for the win. Warrior then throws Yankem out of the ring for no reason.
That's it for RAW. Onto Nitro!
  • Sting & Lex Luger (c) vs Harlem Heat-WCW Tag Team Championships-Sting & Booker T start off trading holds before Booker hits a Harlem Side Kick. Sting responds with a shoulder tackle followed by a body slam and an elbow drop for one. Luger tags in for a double back elbow for a near fall, which Harlem Heat responds to by beating down Luger. Luger takes the fight right back to Stevie Ray before tagging Sting in for a double clothesline for one. Sting locks in an armbar, but Stevie powers out and tags in Booker. Sting manages to keep control with a dropkick before tagging in Luger for a double axe handle before the commercial break. We come back to see Booker hit a sidewalk slam on Sting. Sting avoids an elbow drop, but Booker recovers with a Spinaroonie and hits a jumping wheel kick for a near fall. Booker continues to work over Sting until a double clothesline sends both men down. Luger gets the hot tag and runs wild on Harlem Heat, hitting a powerslam on Booker, only for Stevie to break up the pin. Stevie tosses Sting out of the ring, allowing Harlem Heat to double team Luger and hit the Heat Bomb, a powerbomb/elbow drop combo. Suddenly, Jimmy Hart comes down to ringside and throws in a towel. Booker catches it before Stevie tosses Hart into the ring. While Booker is distracted wth Hart, Sting rolls up Booker for the win and to retain the Tag Team Championships. The match was pretty good until the BS finish.
  • Fire & Ice vs The Steiner Brothers-Rick and Ice Train start off going back and forth until Ice Train hits a powerslam after a very impressive leap frog. Rick responds with a German suplex before Scott Steiner & Scott Norton tag in. Steiner hits an overhead suplex followed by an overhead belly-to-belly suplex that sends Norton out of the ring. Steiner brings him back in the ring and tries for a diving cross body, but Norton catches him and gorilla press slams him. Steiner comes back with a flapjack into the ropes before tagging Rick back in. Norton floors him with a shoulder tackle before tagging in Ice Train for a hip toss. Ice Train then floors Scott with a clothesline followed by a big boot & gorilla press slam. Steiner tries for a double underhook suplex, but Norton stops him and clotheslines him out of the ring. However, Rick Steiner (who was still the legal man) catches Ice Train with a body block for the win. This was a lot of fun. Just four big dudes throwing eachother around for a couple of minutes. Although I will say the finish was a bit anti-climatic.
  • Mean Gene interviews Ric Flair. He tells everyone to stand attention when he talks before calling the Giant an ignoramus. He says he's not worried about the Giant before Woman & Miss Elizabeth say the Giant isn't half the man Flair is.
  • We get our first vignette hyping up the debut of one of the most over-hyped wrestlers in history...Glacier. For those of you who aren't aware, Glacier is basically the 90s version of Emmalina. For months and months...and months...and months, WCW would play these vignettes saying "Our World Is About To Change" and "Blood Runs Cold." This is the first one they ever did, so from her on out, I'm keeping count of how many of these vignettes we get, so...
Blood Has Run Cold For: 1 Episode
  • The Belfast Bruiser vs Lord Steven Regal in a Parking Lot Brawl-William Regal & Fit Finlay beating the piss out of eachother with cars in a parking lot...I love it. At one point, Finlay tries to give Regal a big boot, only to put his foot right through a car window, and it looks awesome.
And after that, Finlay starts beating Regal up with a concrete block.
And after THAT, Finlay beats up Regal with a spare tire.
And after THAT, Finlay beats up Regal with a car bumper. Regal is able to mount some offense, but Finlay eventually starts choking him with a seatbelt.
They fight around the parking lot until Regal grabs the bumper and starts to hit Finlay. Finlay tries for a Tombstone Piledriver, but Regal counters it and goes for a piledriver on the hood of a car. Finlay is able to back body drop Regal onto the roof of the car, but after a low blow, Regal hits the piledriver on the roof and gets the pin on the hood of car. Finlay then immediately no sells it and throws the bumper through a window.
  • Ric Flair (c) with Woman & Miss Elizabeth vs The Giant with Jimmy Hart-WCW World Heavyweight Championship-For the third straight week, Flair flirts with Debra McMichael during his entrance. Flair tries to take the fight right to the Giant, but the Giant isn't fazed by any of his offense. Flair rolls out of the ring to compose himself before re-entering the ring. Flair goes for a shoulder tackle, but it doesn't faze the Giant, who gorilla press slams Flair and throws him to the outside. The Giant chases Flair back into the ring, where Flair jams his thumb into the Giant's eye. Flair tries to chop the Giant in the corner, but it has no effect. Flair goes to the top rope, but the same thing that happens every time Ric Flair goes to the top rope happens. Giant throws him down to the mat before suplexing Flair. The Giant tries to chokeslam Flair, but Flair grabs the ropes to save himself before low blowing the Giant while Woman & Elizabeth distract the referee. Flair takes brass knuckles out from under his knee pad and hits the Giant with them before hiding them in his trunks. Flair locks in the Figure Four, but the Giant sits up and grabs Flair by the throat while he's in the hold. The Giant stands up and chokeslams Flair for the win and the title. Fine match, nothing special. After the match, Mean Gene interviews the Giant. The Giant says the title has been his since Halloween Havoc and that he'll be a fighting champion.
And that's about it. I actually really enjoyed this episode of Nitro a lot more than RAW. I never felt uninterested in this Nitro, it had a lot of good & fun matches. RAW really had nothing worth watching at all.
RAW: 14
Nitro: 16
That's it for this edition of RAW vs Nitro. Stay tuned for the next one.

Worst in the World: The Last Rites Match-TNA Destination X 2007

(Special thanks to an anonymous user for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) An often discussed aspect of professional wrestling is the backstage politicking of Hulk Hogan. Throughout his career as a major attraction in wrestling, Hogan's philosophy has always been to protect Hulk Hogan...OK, sometimes he'd help Ed Leslie, but most of the time it was to protect Hulk Hogan. Because of that philosophy and Hogan's influence as a top guy, there have been multiple instances where a company's booking and other wrestlers have suffered as a result. Would having Mr. Perfect win the 1990 Royal Rumble made sense and could have elevated a rising star and potentially created a new main event player? Yes, but that would require Hogan to not win, and that doesn't work for Hogan, so he wins the Rumble even though he doesn't need elevating. Would booking Randy Orton to beat Hogan at SummerSlam 20

Worst in the World: The Gimmick Battle Royal-WrestleMania X-Seven

(Special thanks to Frost for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) WrestleMania X-Seven. Heavily considered the not just the best WrestleMania, but the greatest wrestling show of all time, WrestleMania X-Seven took place during the hottest period in the WWF's history, and features just about every one of the hottest acts in wrestling at the time. An undercard featuring the likes of Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, William Regal, Kane, and the Big Show. One of the biggest female stars in the history of wrestling in Chyna. A killer TLC match between the Dudley Boyz, the Hardy Boyz, and Edge & Christian. A wild brawl between The Undertaker and Triple H. A massive main event between Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock. Hell, even the father vs son Street Fight between Vince & Shane McMahon. It's a star-studded affair. However, there's one match that sticks out like

Worst in the World: D-Generation X vs Brothers of Destruction-Crown Jewel

This match didn't need to happen. After Triple H and the Undertaker had one of the most brutally bad matches of 2018 at Super Show-Down not even a month earlier, nobody wanted to see them try to wrestle again. Also, nobody wanted to see Shawn Michaels come out of retirement after his fantastic sendoff in 2010, especially for a match like this. But here we are, Triple H & Shawn Michaels facing The Undertaker & Kane in 2018. The combined ages of these four at the time is 206. That's a number you'd expect to see from a match at Heroes of Wrestling. And anyone can come up with their own reason as to why this match is happening, but that would just be ignoring the actual reason. For those of you who don't know, Crown Jewel was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. That might not seem like important information, but you can't really discuss this match without mentioning it. Despite the numerous reasons that running shows in Saudi Arabia is morally wrong (their abuse

Worst in the World: Nia Jax's Worst Matches

Click the link here to vote in the poll and help decide the next edition of the Worst in the World. Nia Jax's first run with the WWE can really only be described as hard to watch. Sure, she had a few stand-out matches, most notably (and surprisingly) her match with Ronda Rousey at Money in the Bank, and an underrated gem with Bayley at NXT TakeOver: London, but those were always outshined by her most infamous matches and moments. She's since returned to WWE and, for the most part, seems to have improved a bit, but the reputation she got from her initial run is gonna be hard to shake off. This week, I'll be looking at some of Jax's worst matches. These include just flat-out bad matches, and matches that have become infamous examples of her reckless in-ring work. Match #1: vs Charlotte Flair-April 10th, 2017 Raw The first match we'll be looking at is from the April 10, 2017 episode of Monday Night Raw, when Nia took on Charlotte Flair. The two had been on the losing e

Worst in the World: Carmella vs Asuka: How to Destroy an Aura

Throughout the entire history of the WWE, we've never seen, and probably will never see again, a woman booked as strong as Asuka was to start her run. Coming into WWE in 2015 with over a decade of experience wrestling in her native Japan as Kana, Asuka was immediately treated like a huge deal. Hell, even from the first time we saw her on a WWE broadcast, she was seated in the crowd of NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn next to two Hall of Famers in Ric Flair & Sgt. Slaughter. Officially debuting in October 2015, Asuka would go her entire NXT career, nearly two full years, without being pinned or submitted. She was booked so strong, in fact, that instead of dropping the NXT Women's Championship in what would be her last match in NXT at the time to Ember Moon (even after sustaining an injury), an act that is almost always the case for champions leaving NXT for the main roster, Asuka retained and later vacated the title, keeping her streak intact. For a company that is more than willing t
