My Thoughts on SmackDown (3/14/17): Bust Your Windows

  • We open with Daniel Bryan on his phone talking about the show tonight when AJ Styles comes in looking for Shane McMahon. Bryan says he'll be here later, but Styles says he's going out in front of the WWE Universe tonight. Bryan tells him to watch himself, but Styles says he's looking out for himself. This leads to Styles coming out and taking a mic. He says he's tired of being messed with by Bryan & Shane. He says he's been put in unfair situations by Bryan and has been screwed over, like how he hasn't gotten a one-on-one rematch for the WWE Championship. He says Randy Orton got put in the main event of WrestleMania over him for burning down Bray Wyatt's house, that he had the best 2016 of anyone, and that he's the reason people watch SmackDown. He wonders why the best WWE superstar doesn't have a match at WrestleMania and he plans on having a conversation about his career with Shane McMahon.
  • Also, no David Otunga on commentary tonight because he's filming a movie
...However, Mauro Ranallo isn't on commentary tonight either due to travel issues.
  • Becky Lynch vs Natalya-The two lock up before Becky takes down Natalya. Becky hits a spin kick before Natalya calls a timeout. She extends a hand, so Becky does to...to her face...she slapped her is what I'm trying to say. Becky locks in an STF, but Natalya gets to the ropes to break the hold. Natalya recovers outside the ring before the commercial break. We come back to see Natalya leaving the ring again. Becky follows her out, only to get bodyslammed outside the ring. Natalya throws Becky back in the ring and works over Becky. Becky comes back with two clotheslines, a leg lariat, and a Bex-Ploder before going for the Flying Firearm. Natalya counters and sets Becky up on the top rope, but Becky rolls off the top rope right into the Dis-Arm-Her for the submission win. Fine match, nothing special. After the match, Carmella shows up and superkicks both Becky & Natalya.
  • Backstage, Carmella explains why she did what she did. She says she'll become the Women's Champion at WrestleMania.
  • It's time for Miz TV! This is a special edition of Miz TV, as the guests tonight are...Miz & Maryse. He says they'll be giving the fans a look into how big of frauds John Cena & Nikki Bella are. They say Cena will never marry Nikki because he only loves himself. Maryse says that Nikki is even worse than Cena, so Miz asks her to explain. According to Maryse, she was offered a contract to be on Season One of Total Divas with the Bellas and Kelly Kelly, but Nikki (her best friend) told her to hold out for better offers. When WWE pulled the deal, Nikki said she'd fix it because she was dating John Cena...and she was untouchable. And later, Nikki told her that she & Brie were going back to WWE and were going to be on Total Divas. Maryse says Nikki robbed her of an opportunity, and she'll expose her for who she really is. A lying, backstabbing bitch. John Cena & Nikki Bella come out and chase Miz & Maryse off. Nikki grabs the mic and says if she didn't want Maryse in WWE, she wouldn't be here today. She says Maryse made her whole story up and challenges her to a fight right now. Miz says she won't fight Nikki right now because she has nothing to prove and ends Miz TV. However, Daniel Bryan comes out and says he's disappointed in how lame this edition of Miz TV was. He says he really wants to punch Miz in the face for all the times he's mocked him for being able to wrestle anymore and copying his moves, but he can't do that...but Cena & Nikki can. So he books a match for WrestleMania; John Cena & Nikki Bella vs The Miz & Maryse.
  • Mickie James vs Alexa Bliss-The two shove eachother before locking up and fighting to the mat. Alexa forearms Mickie in the face before the two fight into the corner. Mickie throws Alexa out of the ring, only for Alexa to throw Mickie's head into the post and yank her out of the ring to the outside before the commercial break. We come back to Alexa working over Mickie in the ring. Mickie fights back and locks in a single leg Boston Crab, but Alexa breaks the hold by getting to the ropes. Mickie kicks Alexa in the face for a near fall before hitting a fisherman's suplex for another near fall. We then get my favorite Alexa Bliss spot...the CHOKE SPOT! Just once, I want her to do a chokeslam. I don't care if she's only 5 feet tall and it makes no sense, it would be great. Alexa hits an STO for a near fall before going for the DDT, but Mickie blocks it by holding the ropes. Mickie goes for the Mickie-DT, but Alexa reverses it and the two trade roll ups before Alexa clocks James. Alexa goes for Insult to Injury, but Mickie dodges the standing moonsault and hits the Mick Kick for the win. Pretty good match.
  • Renee Young interviews AJ Styles who is waiting for Shane McMahon in the parking garage. Shane pulls up suddenly, only for him to be attacked by Styles. Styles throws him around the garage before throwing him through a car window. Finlay runs over and tells Styles to leave before calling for paramedics.
  • After a commercial break, paramedics check on a bloody Shane McMahon. They walk him to the back to get his head checked out.
  • AJ Styles is packing his stuff and trying to leave before he is confronted by Daniel Bryan. Bryan says he has lost all respect for Styles before firing him. Bryan has security escort him out
  • Mojo Rawley vs Dolph Ziggler-Or as I call him; "UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH...Mojo Rawley. " The two lock up before Rawley forces Ziggler into the corner. Rawley throws Ziggler high into the air before throwing him out of the ring...twice. Ziggler starts to yell at JBL, so Rawley yanks Ziggler back in by his hair, only for Ziggler to yank him down on the ropes for a near fall. Ziggler tries to throw Rawley over the top rope, only for Rawley to throw him out instead. Ziggler decides "f*ck it" and walks to the back for the countout loss.
  • Outcomes Randy Orton for a promo. He says you can learn a lot from a Viper and says he waited for months to hit Bray Wyatt where it hurt the most. He says he earned Bray Wyatt's trust before Wyatt shows up and pours Sister Abigail's ashes on himself, saying she lives through him now.
  • Baron Corbin gets interviewed. He says he didn't cross the line when he pinned Dean Ambrose with a forklift because he has no lines. He challenges Ambrose to a match at WrestleMania for the Intercontinental Championship and says he'll put Ambrose down.
  • American Alpha vs The Usos-Gable & Jimmy Uso start before Jey quickly tags in. Jordan tags in and dropkicks Jey for a near fall. During the match, we get a picture-in-picture showing Shane McMahon walking backstage with Finlay & Jamie Noble. During that time, the Usos go for a double team move on Jordan off the top rope, but Gable comes over to make the save and dropkick them both down before the commercial break. We come back to see Jason Jordan getting knocked off the apron by Jey Uso. The Usos continue to work over Jordan while we get another picture-in-picture showing Shane McMahon refusing to leave the arena and coming out to the ring. Gable gets the hot tag and hits two German suplexes on Jey before catching a diving Jimmy and hitting a belly-to-belly suplex before giving Jey a third German suplex for a near fall. Jey almost gets the win off a roll up before Jordan tags in and American Alpha goes for the Steinerizer. However, Jimmy knocks Gable off the top rope and ties him up in the ropes before superkicking Jordan, allowing Jey to get the pin and the win. Fine match, these teams have had better matches together, though.
  • Outcomes Shane McMahon, who quickly says AJ Styles has an opponent for WrestleMania now.

Worst in the World: The Last Rites Match-TNA Destination X 2007

(Special thanks to an anonymous user for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) An often discussed aspect of professional wrestling is the backstage politicking of Hulk Hogan. Throughout his career as a major attraction in wrestling, Hogan's philosophy has always been to protect Hulk Hogan...OK, sometimes he'd help Ed Leslie, but most of the time it was to protect Hulk Hogan. Because of that philosophy and Hogan's influence as a top guy, there have been multiple instances where a company's booking and other wrestlers have suffered as a result. Would having Mr. Perfect win the 1990 Royal Rumble made sense and could have elevated a rising star and potentially created a new main event player? Yes, but that would require Hogan to not win, and that doesn't work for Hogan, so he wins the Rumble even though he doesn't need elevating. Would booking Randy Orton to beat Hogan at SummerSlam 20

Worst in the World: The Gimmick Battle Royal-WrestleMania X-Seven

(Special thanks to Frost for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) WrestleMania X-Seven. Heavily considered the not just the best WrestleMania, but the greatest wrestling show of all time, WrestleMania X-Seven took place during the hottest period in the WWF's history, and features just about every one of the hottest acts in wrestling at the time. An undercard featuring the likes of Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, William Regal, Kane, and the Big Show. One of the biggest female stars in the history of wrestling in Chyna. A killer TLC match between the Dudley Boyz, the Hardy Boyz, and Edge & Christian. A wild brawl between The Undertaker and Triple H. A massive main event between Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock. Hell, even the father vs son Street Fight between Vince & Shane McMahon. It's a star-studded affair. However, there's one match that sticks out like

Worst in the World: D-Generation X vs Brothers of Destruction-Crown Jewel

This match didn't need to happen. After Triple H and the Undertaker had one of the most brutally bad matches of 2018 at Super Show-Down not even a month earlier, nobody wanted to see them try to wrestle again. Also, nobody wanted to see Shawn Michaels come out of retirement after his fantastic sendoff in 2010, especially for a match like this. But here we are, Triple H & Shawn Michaels facing The Undertaker & Kane in 2018. The combined ages of these four at the time is 206. That's a number you'd expect to see from a match at Heroes of Wrestling. And anyone can come up with their own reason as to why this match is happening, but that would just be ignoring the actual reason. For those of you who don't know, Crown Jewel was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. That might not seem like important information, but you can't really discuss this match without mentioning it. Despite the numerous reasons that running shows in Saudi Arabia is morally wrong (their abuse

Worst in the World: Nia Jax's Worst Matches

Click the link here to vote in the poll and help decide the next edition of the Worst in the World. Nia Jax's first run with the WWE can really only be described as hard to watch. Sure, she had a few stand-out matches, most notably (and surprisingly) her match with Ronda Rousey at Money in the Bank, and an underrated gem with Bayley at NXT TakeOver: London, but those were always outshined by her most infamous matches and moments. She's since returned to WWE and, for the most part, seems to have improved a bit, but the reputation she got from her initial run is gonna be hard to shake off. This week, I'll be looking at some of Jax's worst matches. These include just flat-out bad matches, and matches that have become infamous examples of her reckless in-ring work. Match #1: vs Charlotte Flair-April 10th, 2017 Raw The first match we'll be looking at is from the April 10, 2017 episode of Monday Night Raw, when Nia took on Charlotte Flair. The two had been on the losing e

Worst in the World: Carmella vs Asuka: How to Destroy an Aura

Throughout the entire history of the WWE, we've never seen, and probably will never see again, a woman booked as strong as Asuka was to start her run. Coming into WWE in 2015 with over a decade of experience wrestling in her native Japan as Kana, Asuka was immediately treated like a huge deal. Hell, even from the first time we saw her on a WWE broadcast, she was seated in the crowd of NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn next to two Hall of Famers in Ric Flair & Sgt. Slaughter. Officially debuting in October 2015, Asuka would go her entire NXT career, nearly two full years, without being pinned or submitted. She was booked so strong, in fact, that instead of dropping the NXT Women's Championship in what would be her last match in NXT at the time to Ember Moon (even after sustaining an injury), an act that is almost always the case for champions leaving NXT for the main roster, Asuka retained and later vacated the title, keeping her streak intact. For a company that is more than willing t
