My Thoughts on SmackDown (3/28/17): Untouchable

  • We kick off the show with the contract signing for the match between Shane McMahon & AJ Styles at WrestleMania. Daniel Bryan brings out both men and they sit down to talk. Shane says Styles is one of the best wrestlers of all time, which Styles agrees with. However, Shane says AJ's ego got too big and it cost him the WWE Championship. He says his ego couldn't handle not having a match at WrestleMania, and that's why he attacked him. Shane says he forces everyone he steps in the ring with to bring their A-game and if Styles doesn't bring his A-game, then Shane will win. Shane signs the contract and slides it to Styles. Styles warns Shane that he can't use weapons like he usually does, it'll be a straight up singles match in the world of AJ Styles. He says he is untouchable in the ring and while Shane has faced tons of legends, he's never faced him. He says he'll show Shane how phenomenal he really is at WrestleMania. Styles signs the contract and pushes the table to the side before Bryan gets in between them. Bryan asks them to seal the deal with a handshake, which Shane offers, but Styles just walks away.
  • Becky Lynch vs Carmella with James Ellsworth-Alexa Bliss & Mickie James are on commentary for the match. After the bell rings, Carmella stops the match so she can give Ellsworth her gum...AND HE STARTS CHEWING IT! THAT'S DISGUSTING! Becky takes the fight to Carmella, but Carmella is able to take control. The match continues while Mickie & Alexa leave the commentary table to fight at ringside. Mickie flapjacks Alexa into the ring and starts punching her before slapping Carmella for the DQ. All four women fight, ending with Mickie hitting the Mick Kick on Alexa before staring down Becky. Two heels & two babyfaces get into a fight during a match? You know what that means!
  • Becky Lynch & Mickie James vs Alexa Bliss & Carmella-The babyfaces control the match at first until Carmella tags in. However, Alexa shoves Carmella into the ring. Mickie kicks Carmella a bunch before taking a forearm from Carmella. The heels control the match until Natalya comes out before the commercial break. We come back to see Natalya has taken a seat at commentary. Meanwhile, Mickie takes Alexa down with a hurricanrana before hitting a neckbreaker. Becky gets the hot tag and runs wild on Carmella, hitting a spin kick, a Bex-Ploder, and a Flying Fire-arm. Suddenly, Natalya leaves commentary and hops up on the apron, only to get decked by Becky. Becky then gets tripped up by James Ellsworth on the outside, allowing Carmella to pin her for the win. After the pin, the heels beat down the babyfaces until Naomi returns! She hits a hurricanrana on Natalya on the ramp, forcing her to land right on her head, before taking out Carmella and hits Alexa with the Rear View. She takes a mic and says everyone was wondering if she'd be back for WrestleMania, and she is! She enters herself in the SmackDown Women's Championship match and says everyone will feel the glow this Sunday.
  • Daniel Bryan is talking on the phone with Brie Bella when her "sister" walks in. In actuality, it's Tyler Breeze, still dressed up as Nikki Bella. "She" offers to be in the SmackDown Women's Championship match at WrestleMania, but Bryan says no. Breeze & Fandango sulk over not being on the WrestleMania card, but Bryan offers them a spot in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal and places them in a 10-Man Tag Match with some of the other participants.
  • It's MizTV! They play the conclusion of "Total Bellas Bullsh*t", with Miz mocking Cena for being an emotionless robot who only says he loves Nikki when cue cards tell him too and for being a freak about the rules. This one also features the Miz on his knees as Daniel Bryan, and it's hilarious. "Nikki" asks "Cena" to marry her before going back to MizTV, where Miz & Maryse tell them will find out what "Cena" says after the commercial break. When we come back, "Cena" says no, says he hustles the fans, he is only loyal to himself, and only respects money. He says when the Miz & Maryse beat him & her at WrestleMania, he'll fade into obscurity and he'll dump her. Miz & Maryse drop the act, telling Cena he'll be nothing after WrestleMania and says Cena's life is total bullsh*t. The real Cena & Nikki come out to the ring and say the spoof was funny, but the real Miz & Maryse are full of it. Cena says that Nikki didn't stop Maryse from getting her job back; the WWE never wanted Maryse back. He says he's loyal to the WWE and rags on the Miz's straight-to-DVD movies. He says Maryse is a waste of space and that the only reason she's back is because the Miz begged WWE to let her back so he could be on Total Divas. He also ball taps Miz. He says he &  Nikki will crush Miz & Maryse at WrestleMania before calling Miz a pussy and him & Maryse the sh*t couple. Cena challenges them to a fight right now, but Miz & Maryse back off, only to walk back. Miz gets on the apron, but they back off again.
  • American Alpha, Heath Slater, Rhyno, and Mojo Rawley vs The Usos, Breezango, and Dolph Ziggler-Jordan & Ziggler start off with some mat wrestling, which Jordan gets the better of. Ziggler hits a dropkick, only for Jordan to follow up with one of his own for a near fall. Gable tags in and works over Ziggler's arm before tagging in Slater, who quickly tags in Rhyno. Rhyno runs through Ziggler with clotheslines and a belly-to-belly suplex. Rhyno calls for the Gore, but Breezango pulls him out of harms way before the commercial break. We come back to see Gable lock in a hanging armbar on one of the Usos. However, a Breezango distraction allows the Uso to clothesline Gable. The heels control the match until Gable dodges a Stinger Splash from an Uso in the corner. Gable hits a side suplex on the Uso before making the hot tag to Mojo Rawley, who runs through the heels before hitting a gorilla press slam on Breeze, but the pin is broken up by one of the Usos. Chaos ensues before Rawley hits the running punch in the corner on Breeze for the win.
  • Luke Harper cuts a promo, saying Bray Wyatt didn't listen to him when he told him Randy Orton wasn't loyal to the family, and instead cast him aside. Harper says he is free now and tells him to run.
  • Bray Wyatt vs Luke Harper-Hey, Luke Harper finally changed his shirt! Wyatt takes the fight right to Harper before hitting a cross body block. Harper responds with a single leg dropkick before taking the fight to the outside, where Harper hits a big running elbow. Harper throws Wyatt into the timekeeper's area before the commercial break. We come back to Wyatt laying the boots to Harper. Wyatt goes for a Ura-nage, but Harper counters it with a spinning side slam for a near fall. Wyatt is able to hit the Ura-nage on the second try followed by a senton for a near fall. Wyatt calls for Sister Abigail, but Harper goes for it himself. Wyatt avoids it by rolling out of the ring, only for Harper to hit two suicide dives, sending Wyatt over the announce table. Back in the ring, Harper hits a slingshot senton bomb followed by a big boot for a near fall.Wyatt goes for a quick Sister Abigail, but Harper counters it and hits a superkick followed by a discus clothesline. Harper makes the cover, but Wyatt grabs the ropes to save himself. Wyatt & Harper stare eachother down before Wyatt hits Sister Abigail for the win. Pretty good match. The only good match on the show, really. After the match, Randy Orton appears on the screen where Wyatt's compound used to stand. He jams a staff into the ground before saying he's coming for Wyatt at WrestleMania.

Worst in the World: The Last Rites Match-TNA Destination X 2007

(Special thanks to an anonymous user for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) An often discussed aspect of professional wrestling is the backstage politicking of Hulk Hogan. Throughout his career as a major attraction in wrestling, Hogan's philosophy has always been to protect Hulk Hogan...OK, sometimes he'd help Ed Leslie, but most of the time it was to protect Hulk Hogan. Because of that philosophy and Hogan's influence as a top guy, there have been multiple instances where a company's booking and other wrestlers have suffered as a result. Would having Mr. Perfect win the 1990 Royal Rumble made sense and could have elevated a rising star and potentially created a new main event player? Yes, but that would require Hogan to not win, and that doesn't work for Hogan, so he wins the Rumble even though he doesn't need elevating. Would booking Randy Orton to beat Hogan at SummerSlam 20

Worst in the World: The Gimmick Battle Royal-WrestleMania X-Seven

(Special thanks to Frost for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) WrestleMania X-Seven. Heavily considered the not just the best WrestleMania, but the greatest wrestling show of all time, WrestleMania X-Seven took place during the hottest period in the WWF's history, and features just about every one of the hottest acts in wrestling at the time. An undercard featuring the likes of Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, William Regal, Kane, and the Big Show. One of the biggest female stars in the history of wrestling in Chyna. A killer TLC match between the Dudley Boyz, the Hardy Boyz, and Edge & Christian. A wild brawl between The Undertaker and Triple H. A massive main event between Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock. Hell, even the father vs son Street Fight between Vince & Shane McMahon. It's a star-studded affair. However, there's one match that sticks out like

Worst in the World: D-Generation X vs Brothers of Destruction-Crown Jewel

This match didn't need to happen. After Triple H and the Undertaker had one of the most brutally bad matches of 2018 at Super Show-Down not even a month earlier, nobody wanted to see them try to wrestle again. Also, nobody wanted to see Shawn Michaels come out of retirement after his fantastic sendoff in 2010, especially for a match like this. But here we are, Triple H & Shawn Michaels facing The Undertaker & Kane in 2018. The combined ages of these four at the time is 206. That's a number you'd expect to see from a match at Heroes of Wrestling. And anyone can come up with their own reason as to why this match is happening, but that would just be ignoring the actual reason. For those of you who don't know, Crown Jewel was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. That might not seem like important information, but you can't really discuss this match without mentioning it. Despite the numerous reasons that running shows in Saudi Arabia is morally wrong (their abuse

Worst in the World: Nia Jax's Worst Matches

Click the link here to vote in the poll and help decide the next edition of the Worst in the World. Nia Jax's first run with the WWE can really only be described as hard to watch. Sure, she had a few stand-out matches, most notably (and surprisingly) her match with Ronda Rousey at Money in the Bank, and an underrated gem with Bayley at NXT TakeOver: London, but those were always outshined by her most infamous matches and moments. She's since returned to WWE and, for the most part, seems to have improved a bit, but the reputation she got from her initial run is gonna be hard to shake off. This week, I'll be looking at some of Jax's worst matches. These include just flat-out bad matches, and matches that have become infamous examples of her reckless in-ring work. Match #1: vs Charlotte Flair-April 10th, 2017 Raw The first match we'll be looking at is from the April 10, 2017 episode of Monday Night Raw, when Nia took on Charlotte Flair. The two had been on the losing e

Worst in the World: Carmella vs Asuka: How to Destroy an Aura

Throughout the entire history of the WWE, we've never seen, and probably will never see again, a woman booked as strong as Asuka was to start her run. Coming into WWE in 2015 with over a decade of experience wrestling in her native Japan as Kana, Asuka was immediately treated like a huge deal. Hell, even from the first time we saw her on a WWE broadcast, she was seated in the crowd of NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn next to two Hall of Famers in Ric Flair & Sgt. Slaughter. Officially debuting in October 2015, Asuka would go her entire NXT career, nearly two full years, without being pinned or submitted. She was booked so strong, in fact, that instead of dropping the NXT Women's Championship in what would be her last match in NXT at the time to Ember Moon (even after sustaining an injury), an act that is almost always the case for champions leaving NXT for the main roster, Asuka retained and later vacated the title, keeping her streak intact. For a company that is more than willing t
