My Thoughts on RAW (5/15/17): Strong Style Inner Thigh Grab

  • We kick off the show with the general manager Kurt Angle. Angle says Braun Strowman had his elbow shattered by Roman Reigns last week and may be out of action for 6 months. Angle then turns his attention to the Universal Championship, announcing that at Extreme Rules, there will be Fatal 5-Way, with the winner facing Brock Lesnar at, and this is not a joke...Great Balls of Fire. Yes, that is actually what they're calling their pay-per-view after Extreme Rules. Angle announces the five men that will compete in the match; Seth Rollins, Samoa Joe, Finn Balor, Bray Wyatt, and Roman Reigns. Reigns comes out and says he should already be the #1 contender because he's beaten the Undertaker at WrestleMania and put Strowman on the shelf. He says he's the only one who can beat Lesnar before Balor comes out. He says since he was the first Universal Champion and never lost his title, so the line starts behind him. Reigns says Balor doesn't have the killer instinct to beat Lesnar, but Balor brings up the fact that he beat Reigns on his first night on RAW. Samoa Joe comes out next and says wrestling is about actions & results and says when he enters the five-way, the result is that he wins. He is interrupted by Bray Wyatt, who appears in the ring, who says he knows all of them fear the Beast. He is interrupted by Seth Rollins, who says he's not here to talk, he's here to fight Joe. The two brawl in the entrance way as all five men brawl, ending with Balor hitting the Sling Blade on Reigns before taking out Rollins & Reigns with a somersault tope.
  • After a commercial break, Finn Balor, Roman Reigns & Seth Rollins argue until Kurt Angle breaks them up. He tells them they settle things in the ring and that Rollins will face Bray Wyatt and Reigns & Balor will face eachother.
  • Jeff Hardy with Matt Hardy vs Sheamus with Cesaro-Hardy takes the fight right to Sheamus, beating him down in the corner. Hardy avoids at flash Brogue Kick before sending Sheamus out of the ring. Hardy dives onto Sheamus, but Sheamus catches him and throws him into the barricade before the commercial break. We come back to see Sheamus hit a diving knee drop for a near fall. Sheamus controls the match until Hardy makes a comeback, hitting an inverted atomic drop, a double leg drop, and a basement dropkick for a near fall. Sheamus blocks the Twist of Fate and hits a high knee for a near fall. Sheamus goes to the top rope for a diving clothesline, but Hardy catches him with a stunner for a near fall. Cesaro hops up on the apron to distract Hardy, but Matt Hardy yanks him down. Sheamus blocks another Twist of Fate and goes for a Brogue Kick, but Hardy avoids it and hits the Twist of Fate before finishing off Sheamus with a Swanton Bomb for the win. Fine match, nothing special.
  • Sasha Banks vs Alicia Fox with Noam Dar-Wait, I thought the Noam Dar-Alicia Fox thing was over? I guess not. So this is happening again due to Fox getting pinned despite having her shoulder up next week. Sasha starts off in control and hits a big knee strike, only for Fox to come back with a big boot for a near fall. Fox hits a gorgeous Northern Lights suplex for a near fall. Alicia Fox might have the best Northern Lights suplex of all time. Just saying. Sasha comes back and hits a headscissor takedown before kicking out of a sunset flip attempt. Sasha goes for the Bank Statement, but Fox blocks it by grabbing the ropes and throws her to the outside. Fox brings Sasha back to the ring, almost getting rolled up in the process before hitting the scissor kick for the win. Short, nothing match. After the match, Dar puts Fox on his shoulders to celebrate her win.
  • Dean Ambrose (c) vs The Miz with Maryse-Intercontinental Championship-Miz avoids Ambrose at first, only to get hip tossed, chopped, and floored with a crossbody. Miz goes for a quick Skull Crushing Finale and almost gets the win off a roll up, but Ambrose comes back with a swinging neckbreaker. Ambrose goes to the top rope, but Miz rolls out of the ring before the commercial break. We come back to see Miz hit the Awesome Clothesline before hitting a double axe handle for a near fall. Miz controls the match until Ambrose sends Miz out of the ring and hits a suicide...dive. Back in the ring, Ambrose clotheslines Miz before hitting a bulldog and cradles Miz for a near fall. Ambrose sets up Miz on the top rope for a superplex, but Miz knocks him down. The two block each other's finishers before Ambrose goes back to the top rope for a diving elbow for a near fall. Ambrose goes for a move he never does so Miz can reverse it and go for the figure four, but Ambrose blocks it, only for Miz to hit the Skull Crushing Finale, but Ambrose kicks out. Miz goes for it again, but Ambrose counters it and goes for Dirty Deeds. Miz blocks it, but Ambrose clotheslines him out of the ring. Ambrose goes for a...dive...off the top rope, but Maryse gets in his way. Ambrose says "f*ck it" and dives anyway, connecting with Miz. Back in the ring, Maryse gets in the ring to distract the referee. Miz tries to low blow Ambrose, but Ambrose blocks it and kicks Miz in the balls. The referee sees this and disqualifies Ambrose, giving Miz the win but not the title. Ambrose just cost himself the match like a stupid idiot. Corey Graves defends Miz's low-blow as a "Strong Style Inner Thigh Grab."
  • Charly Caruso interviews Finn Balor. Balor says it's not about the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog and that it might be Roman Reigns' yard, but it's his universe.
  • Alexa Bliss comes out. She calls Newark, New Jersey the sweat glands on America and the crowd the poster children of failure. She says they're experiencing a winner by seeing her and that winning is easy when you're better than everyone else. She shuts down a "WHAT" chant before saying she would have won Miss USA if she had entered, telling Miss DC "you're welcome." Bayley comes out and congratulates Bliss on all she has accomplished, but she's getting her rematch at Extreme Rules. Bliss says that at Extreme Rules, no one can save her and that she'll never get extreme because she's basically a kid. Bayley dropkicks Bliss out of the ring, who grabs a kendo stick. Bliss smacks Bayley with the kendo stick in the back before holding the title up.
  • Backstage, Kurt Angle is confronted by Miz & Maryse. He says he should be the Intercontinental Champion, but Ambrose got himself disqualified. Angle gives him a rematch at Extreme Rules, but Miz demands that he add a stipulation that if Ambrose gets disqualified or counted out, he loses the title. Maryse yells at Angle in French, which Angle responds to with half-French/half-English until the Drifter shows up and plays his guitar.
  • Neville & TJP vs Gentleman Jack Gallagher & Austin Aries-Aries & Neville start off, but quickly tags in TJP, who gets murked by Aries & Gallagher before rolling out of the ring. Aries takes out TJP & Neville with a...dive...after launched by Gallagher before the commercial break. We come back to Perkins bodyslamming Aries before tagging in Neville to stomp away at him. The heels control the match until Aries bell claps TJP's head and tags in Gallagher, who suplexes TJP around the ring for a near fall. Gallagher goes the for the corner dropkick, but Neville gets in his way. Neville & Aries brawl until TJP takes out Aries' knee with a chop block. Gallagher gives TJP & Neville a dropkick each before Aries takes out Neville with a...dive. TJP goes for the Detonation Kick, but Gallagher escapes it and headbutts TJP. Gallagher goes for the corner dropkick, but Neville holds Gallagher's foot, allowing TJP to hit the Detonation Kick for the win. Fine match, nothing special.
  • Backstage, Bayley is receiving medical attention before Kurt Angle shows up. He says her match against Bliss will be a straight up singles match at Extreme Rules, but Bayley says she wants to get revenge on Bliss. Angle decides to make the match a Kendo Stick on a Pole match.
  • Also backstage, R-Truth apologizes to Goldust, saying he let down Goldust by getting pinned in tag team turmoil. Goldust says it's fine and says they're going to show everyone what the Golden Truth is about tonight.
  • Finn Balor vs Roman Reigns-The two go back and forth before Reigns tosses Balor across the ring. Reigns continues to overpower Balor until Balor sends Reigns into the ring post through the turnbuckle. Balor comes back with a soccer kick from the apron and a double stomp to the back before the commercial break. We come back to see Balor throw Reigns out of the ring. Reigns gets up on the apron, only to get dropkicked off by Balor. Balor goes for a running dropkick, but Reigns catches him and rams him into the ring post. Reigns follows up with a drive-by dropkick for a near fall before hitting a spinning powerbomb for another near fall. Reigns goes for a Superman Punch, but Balor blocks it with a kick before blocking a powerbomb and double stomping Reigns. Balor follows up with a Sling Blade, but Reigns catches him with a Superman Punch when Balor goes for a dropkick for a near fall. Reigns goes for the spear, but Balor catches him with a Sling Blade before hitting the corner dropkick. Balor goes for the Coup de Grace, but Reigns knocks him off the top rope and hits the spear for the win. Pretty good match.
  • Bray Wyatt appeared on the screen. I just can't even deal with Bray Wyatt anymore. The House of Horrors has killed any interest I have in Bray Wyatt anymore. Seriously, anytime I hear him talk, I just picture this.
  • Charly Caruso interviews Seth Rollins. He says he's not gutless like Bray Wyatt say he is and he's not going to let Wyatt get in his way on the path to the Universal Championship.
  • The Golden Truth vs NOPE! Goldust attacks Truth, beating him down in the corner before throwing him out of the ring. Goldust takes the mic as one fan loudly yells 'WHY GOLDUST WHY!?" Goldust simply says that's what's up.
  • Enzo Amore with Big Cass vs Apollo Crew with Titus O'Neil-Before the match, Titus O'Neil brags about winning Celebrity Mega Dad of the Year and mocks Enzo's dancing & promo style. However, Big Cass informs Titus that Enzo's not facing Apollo tonight...Cass is facing Titus. Titus tries to get out of it, but Cass says it's happening. How do you not know you're wrestling until you get out there? Whatever.
  • Big Cass with Enzo Amore vs Titus O'Neil with Apollo Crews-Titus takes the fight to Cass before carefully taking off his jacket and his belt. Titus prepares to whip Cass with his belt, but Enzo distracts him, allowing  Cass to finish Titus off with a big boot. After the match, Enzo mocks Titus by taking a selfie with Titus while he's on the ground, but Crews stops him with a jumping roundhouse kick.
  • Backstage, Neville says TJP did good tonight, but TJP implies he still wants a Cruiserweight Championship match. Neville says they still have to take care of the Austin Aries problem, and they'll finish it on 205 Live tomorrow.
  • Bray Wyatt vs Seth Rollins-
That's all I think of now. The two lock up before Wyatt floors Rollins with a headbutt. Back to the lock up, which Rollins gets the better of before kicking Wyatt twice. Rollins dodges a body block that sends Wyatt out of the ring and dives onto Wyatt. Rollins throws Wyatt into the barricade but gets caught off a...dive...off the barricade by Wyatt, who Uranages Rollins into the barricade before the commercial break. We come back Rollins dropkicking Wyatt. Rollins goes to the top rope, but Wyatt meets him there and hits a jawbreaker for a near fall. Wyatt sets Rollins on the top rope and hits a superplex for another near fall. Wyatt controls the match until Rollins blocks a Uranage, but Wyatt blocks a suicide...dive. Rollins comes back with a Blockbuster before hitting a spin kick and a Sling Blade. Rollins hits a corner STO before tossing Wyatt out of the ring. Rollins hits a wrecking ball dropkick before hitting a suicide...dive. Back in the ring, Rollins hits a springboard clothesline for a near fall before going for a suplex, but Wyatt blocks it. Wyatt goes for Sister Abigail, but Rollins avoids it and hits an enziguri, only for Wyatt to come back with a clothesline for a near fall. Wyatt follows up with an Uranage for a near fall before going for Sister Abigail, but Rollins avoids it and rolls up Wyatt for a near fall. Rollins hits a Falcon Arrow for a near fall before going to the top rope, only for Wyatt to roll out of the ring. Rollins decides to...dive...anyway, only for Samoa Joe to hop out of the crowd and attack him for the DQ. Back in the ring, Joe gives Rollins an Uranage before going face-to-face with Wyatt. The two decide to beat down Rollins before Wyatt hits Sister Abigail on Joe. Wyatt hits Sister Abigail on Rollins to close the show.

Worst in the World: The Gimmick Battle Royal-WrestleMania X-Seven

(Special thanks to Frost for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) WrestleMania X-Seven. Heavily considered the not just the best WrestleMania, but the greatest wrestling show of all time, WrestleMania X-Seven took place during the hottest period in the WWF's history, and features just about every one of the hottest acts in wrestling at the time. An undercard featuring the likes of Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, William Regal, Kane, and the Big Show. One of the biggest female stars in the history of wrestling in Chyna. A killer TLC match between the Dudley Boyz, the Hardy Boyz, and Edge & Christian. A wild brawl between The Undertaker and Triple H. A massive main event between Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock. Hell, even the father vs son Street Fight between Vince & Shane McMahon. It's a star-studded affair. However, there's one match that sticks out like

Worst in the World: The Last Rites Match-TNA Destination X 2007

(Special thanks to an anonymous user for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) An often discussed aspect of professional wrestling is the backstage politicking of Hulk Hogan. Throughout his career as a major attraction in wrestling, Hogan's philosophy has always been to protect Hulk Hogan...OK, sometimes he'd help Ed Leslie, but most of the time it was to protect Hulk Hogan. Because of that philosophy and Hogan's influence as a top guy, there have been multiple instances where a company's booking and other wrestlers have suffered as a result. Would having Mr. Perfect win the 1990 Royal Rumble made sense and could have elevated a rising star and potentially created a new main event player? Yes, but that would require Hogan to not win, and that doesn't work for Hogan, so he wins the Rumble even though he doesn't need elevating. Would booking Randy Orton to beat Hogan at SummerSlam 20

Worst in the World: D-Generation X vs Brothers of Destruction-Crown Jewel

This match didn't need to happen. After Triple H and the Undertaker had one of the most brutally bad matches of 2018 at Super Show-Down not even a month earlier, nobody wanted to see them try to wrestle again. Also, nobody wanted to see Shawn Michaels come out of retirement after his fantastic sendoff in 2010, especially for a match like this. But here we are, Triple H & Shawn Michaels facing The Undertaker & Kane in 2018. The combined ages of these four at the time is 206. That's a number you'd expect to see from a match at Heroes of Wrestling. And anyone can come up with their own reason as to why this match is happening, but that would just be ignoring the actual reason. For those of you who don't know, Crown Jewel was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. That might not seem like important information, but you can't really discuss this match without mentioning it. Despite the numerous reasons that running shows in Saudi Arabia is morally wrong (their abuse

Worst in the World: What is the Worst Wrestling Match of All Time?

Note: This series is based off a YouTube series " The Search for the Worst " by I Hate Everything, where he reviews every movie on IMDB's Bottom 100. It's a great, funny series and I'd recommend checking it out. Have you ever just thought to yourself "What is the worst match of all time?"? I don't mean something like a boring John Cena-Randy Orton match, I mean a match where the wrestlers have zero chemistry, little wrestling ability, or literally no idea what they are actually doing. I've thought about this for a while, and I've decided to finally figure it out. So I'm going to watch any match that is: a) A winner of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Award for the Worst Worked Match of the Year. or:  b) Listed on the 100 worst rated wrestling matches of all time on the Internet Wrestling Database .   (Note: Some matches appear on awards that aren't on the list.) There are 115 (EDIT: Now 99)  matches on here. I pu

Worst in the World: Trash at the Beach

Click the link here to vote in the poll and help decide the next edition of the Worst in the World. Just over a month ago, I briefly covered the massive success the WWF was having in 1999. Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock are at the top of the card. Triple H is on the rise to the main event. Mankind is playing the ultimate likable & respected babyface. Names like the Undertaker, Kane, and the Big Show are all major players. The undercard is stacked with big names like D-Generation X, D'Lo Brown, and Ken Shamrock, rising stars like The Hardy Boyz and Edge & Christian, and new signings like Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho, and the Dudley Boyz. The WWF was so red hot in 1999 that even an all-time bad WrestleMania in WrestleMania XV couldn't slow them down. But there was one other factor that made 1999 such a good year for the WWF; the fact that their main competitor, WCW, was beginning to crack. At the same time the WWF was reaching the highest heights they'd ever reache
