Worst in the World: The 7 Sins of WrestleMania VII

(NOTE: Hey everyone. Before I start this post, I wanted to run an idea by everyone and gauge what people thought of a change to how suggestions are covered. Up until now, I've been just trying to covering suggestions in the order I received them, theming a month around posts, or at the very least pairing up similar matches for multi-match posts. However, I was wondering how everyone would feel about me setting up a poll after every post and letting everyone vote on certain suggestions. I have this month all planned out, so I wouldn't implement it until after April, but let me know how you would feel about it. Usually, when I cover a ton of matches from one show in one post, that show is, as a whole, pretty damn bad. While I wouldn't really consider this show one you really need to go out of your way and watch, WrestleMania VII is not what I'd call a terrible show. It has its moments, most notably the Career vs Career match between Randy Savage and The Ultimate Warrior, a match that's heavily considered the best match of Warrior's career. There were also two solid tag matches on the undercard, the opening match between the Rockers and Haku & The Barbarian, and the Tag Team Championship match between the Hart Foundation and the Nasty Boys. But aside from that, most of the card is just short & unremarkable at best, and bad at worst. Out of the 14 matches on the card, only five of them go over 10 minutes, and only four of them have a rating of three stars or higher from Dave Meltzer. All in all, WrestleMania VII is certainly a show that happened. This week, I'm gonna take a look at (fittingly) seven matches from WrestleMania VII. Some of these were recommended by readers in the comments, and some were added by me, but they all come up short quality-wise.

Match #1: Texas Tornado vs Dino Bravo

We'll start this look back at WrestleMania VII with the second match on the card, skipping over the aforementioned solid tag match between the Rockers and Haku & The Barbarian to look at the Texas Tornado, better known as Kerry Von Erich, and Dino Bravo. Kerry, a member of the famous Von Erich family, joined the WWF in 1990 following the closure of his family's promotion, best known as World Class Championship Wrestling, that same year. He'd have a three-month run with the Intercontinental Championship, but for the most part, his WWF run isn't all that memorable. Still, the fact that he's even able to wrestle here is shocking. While it wasn't known at the time, it has since come out that a motorcycle accident in 1986 caused Von Erich to get his right foot amputated. He wrestled with a prosthetic leg for years after, including here. He faces Dino Bravo, another guy who was just kind of...there...in the WWF, with Jimmy Hart in his corner. This match earned three-quarters of a star from Dave Meltzer, and is too short for a rating on Cagematch.net. Let's take a look.
Bravo jumps Tornado as he gets in the ring, with the bell sounding right after. Tornado fights back, but gets caught up trying to take off his entrance jacket. Bravo capitalizes, clotheslining Tornado out of the ring. Bravo follows him out, punching away at him before tossing him back into the ring. Tornado recovers, ducking a clothesline, hitting an Atomic Drop, and following up with a clothesline of his own. Tornado goes for his family's famous Claw Hold, but Bravo blocks it and takes control with a shot to the gut. Bravo chops away at Tornado, and keeps control after Tornado reverses an Irish whip, catching him with a boot in the corner. Bravo follows up with an Atomic Drop of his own and two elbow drops, with Tornado kicking out of the pin attempt. Tornado fires up, ducking a clothesline and a back elbow, but Bravo cuts him off with a sidewalk slam, which gets a two count. Bravo follows up with a second-rope double axe handle and a shot to the throat, but a second axe handle attempt is countered by Tornado, who puts on the Claw. Bravo fades, allowing Tornado to hit the Tornado Punch (a discus punch) for the three and the win.

The Verdict

Not terrible, but just kind of unremarkable. There are a couple of clunky moments, but that's really the only big complaint I have.

Match #2: The Blindfold Match

I'll be skipping over the next two matches, a fine enough match between the British Bulldog and the Warlord, and another solid tag match between the Hart Foundation and the Nasty Boys. That brings us to the fifth match on the card, and one of the more infamous gimmick matches in the history of WrestleMania: the Blindfold match between Jake Roberts and Rick Martel. Late in the previous year, Roberts was blinded by Martel after The Model sprayed him in the eyes with his "Arrogance" cologne. Since Roberts was blinded, what better match the two could have than a blindfold match...figuratively, of course. Literally, a match where they didn't have to pretend they couldn't see each other probably would have been better, but I digress. This match earned a DUD (zero stars) rating from Meltzer, and currently sits at a show-worst 3.06 rating on Cagematch. The last time I covered a blindfold match on this series was all the way back at entry #11 with James Storm and Chris Harris' Blindfold Steel Cage match, a match that held the distinction of the absolute worst match in the series for a minute. Will the most famous blindfold match of all-time fare any better? Let's take a look.
Quite literally, Jake Roberts blows the entire concept of the match before the match even starts. As the referees put the bags on both men's hands, Roberts just kind of...puts his hand up in the bag. Because the bags have mesh eye holes so Roberts & Martel can actually see, that hand is very clearly visible.
It's hilarious. The match starts with both men wandering around the ring. Roberts points and uses the crowd's cheers as a guide to where Martel is, while Martel stays close to the ropes. I will say, the crowd is a lot more into this match than you'd expect, and is a lot kinder than the crowd was during Storm & Harris' match. Bobby Heenan has a funny line on commentary, saying Martel should be allowed to take the hood off, close his eyes, and work on the honor system. Martel crawls around the ring as Roberts points, eventually making their first contact with each other when their feet hit. Roberts tries to pounce on Martel, but Martel scrambles away. Martel gets to his feet, but stumbles over Roberts, who crawls over him and chokes him. Martel fights out and chokes Roberts himself before striking him a few times.
The two stand up and Martel whips Roberts across the ring and tries to hit a backdrop, but Roberts steps out of the way. Another positive note, I think Roberts and Martel both do a good job with what they're given here, not trying to do too much wrestling-wise that wouldn't make sense in this match. Martel in particular is really playing the chickenshit heel that's completely out of his element really well, his quickly looking around and blind failing really works. This match is a tour de force for Martel in terms of physical comedy. Compare this to Storm vs Harris, where they just give up at a certain point and just start doing actual wrestling moves while pretending to be blindfolded. Roberts points at Martel and the crowd cheers, as the two cautiously approach each other. The two bump into each other and sprint toward each other, but they miss, causing Martel to run into the ropes and fall to the mat.
Martel throws blind kicks as Roberts points, the crowd cheering when he points at Martel. However, Roberts' guiding hand costs him, as Martel flails into it and body slams him. Roberts quickly gets to his feet, leaving Martel to drop an elbow on nothing. Roberts tries to crawl and find Martel, who has accidentally cornered the referee. Martel crawls around the ring as Roberts claps. Martel follows the sound as Roberts circles the ring before grabbing him around the waist. Martel scrambles, reaching the ropes to break the hold. Martel crawls around the ring, right into the corner where Roberts has left his snake Damien in a bag. Martel grabs the bag, stumbling back and nearly getting caught by Roberts. Roberts points again, finding Martel and putting on a side headlock. Martel quickly fights out and shoves Roberts into the ropes, causing him to bounce back and for the two to collide. The collision causes Roberts to fall out of the ring.
Presumably, the referee tells Martel Roberts is out of the ring, prompting him to leave the ring and grab a chair. Martel blindly jabs away at nothing with the chair, eventually back into the ring post. Martel swings for the fences, smashing the post and hurting his hands in the process. Roberts finds Martel and pulls him back into the ring, but Martel is able to take control and hit a backbreaker. Martel locks in the Boston Crab, but Roberts powers out, sending Martel into the corner. Both men stumble to their feet and make contact. Roberts quickly turns Martel around, hits the DDT, and crawls into the pin for the three and the win.

The Verdict

Look...listen...is this a good match on a wrestling level? Not really. Is this even a wrestling match given how the majority of the match is pointing, slowly walking around the ring, and crawling, with the occasional wrestling move? Debatable. Does it go on a bit too long? Probably. But is this one of the worst matches ever? Not in my opinion. Hell, it's not even the worst blindfold match I've ever seen. James Storm vs Chris Harris is infinitely worse than this. I think there is some fun in this match, and while I think it could be shorter, I still thought this was a little enjoyable. Since actual wrestling is at a minimum in this match, I'm not going to put it too high up, but it's not going anywhere near the bottom.

Match #3: Tenryu & Kitao vs Demolition

We'll be skipping the next two matches, the most forgettable Undertaker vs Jimmy Snuka match, and the excellent Ultimate Warrior vs Randy Savage match, to jump to the eighth match on the card, a tag match between Smash & Crush of Demolition, with Mr. Fuji in their corner, and the team of Genichiro Tenryu & Koji Kitao. Crush was added to Demolition a year ago after Ax began to slow down due to health concerns. Initially a temporary member, Crush became a permanent member after Ax left the WWF in late 1990. Tenryu & Kitao found their way to the WWF as part of a working relationship between the WWF and the Tenryu-owned Super World of Sports. Tenryu, a legend of Japanese wrestling and a staple of 80s All Japan Pro-Wrestling, left All Japan in 1990 to found SWS. Kitao entered wrestling in 1989 after an eight-year career in sumo, where he'd be the 60th man to reach the highest rank of yokozuna (in case you were wondering where the WWF got the name for Yokozuna.) Kitao's sumo career ended in controversy, with him being expelled from the sport after an incident with his stable boss, and his wrestling career would cause controversy as well. Kitao's most infamous moment would actually come just eight days after WrestleMania at SWS' Wrestle Dream in Kobe where, in a match with Earthquake, he would no sell Quake's offense, tried to gauge his eyes, shoot-kicked a referee, grabbed the mic, and called wrestling fake, which got him fired from SWS. This match got a show-low negative half-star rating from Meltzer, and isn't long enough for a rating on Cagematch.net.
Demolition jumps Kitao from behind to start, with Crush striking away at him. Kitao replies, reversing an Irish whip and hitting a jumping knee. Smash runs in to distract Kitao, bringing in Tenryu, who draws the attention of the ref. The distraction allows Crush to regain control, hitting Kitao from behind before holding him in place for Fuji to hit him with his cane. Smash tags and hits a back suplex before tossing him into Crush's boot. Smash tags out and holds Kitao in place for Crush to hit a double axe handle. Crush follows up with a bodyslam before tagging in Smash, who chokes Kitao against the ropes. Crush tags in for a headbutt and a punch...and then tags Smash back in. Kitao fires back, hitting a clothesline before quickly tagging in Tenryu.
Tenryu chops away at Smash, and fends off Crush with a dropkick. Tenryu bodyslams Smash and goes to the top rope for a reverse elbow drop, but Smash rolls out of the way just in time. Smash follows up with a clothesline and tags in Crush, who hits a spinning backbreaker. Smash tags back in for another back suplex before setting Tenryu up for the Demolition Decapitation (a backbreaker/elbow drop combo), but Kitao runs in to distract Crush. Crush easily fends off Kitao and goes back to the top rope, but Kitao pops up and shoves him to the outside. Smash strikes away at Kitao, only for Tenryu to catch him with an enziguri. Kitao whiffs on a clothesline (for some reason) right before Tenryu gives Smash a powerbomb for the three and the win.

The Verdict

The part where Tenryu gets to come in is pretty fun, but overall, this is a super bland match. Genuinely, this is closer to a television-quality match than a pay-per-view, let alone a WrestleMania. Easy skip.

Match #4: Earthquake vs Greg Valentine

We're going to skip over the next match, a (for lack of a better term) perfectly fine match between Mr. Perfect and Big Boss Man, and jump to the 10th match on the card between Earthquake and Greg Valentine. Valentine's a face now, having split from Jimmy Hart, and now he's taking on one of Hart's clients in Quake here. This match got a DUD rating from Meltzer, and is too short to get a rating on Cagematch.
Oh my god, Greg Valentine is such a jobber at this point that his entrance is ignored in favor of Mean Gene meeting celebrities in the crowd. Seriously, Earthquake makes his entrance, it cuts to Mean Gene talking to Donald Trump, Chuck Norris, Henry Winkler, and Lou Ferrigno, and when it cuts back, Valentine's already in the ring. Trump, Norris, and Ferrigno even get nameplates. Valentine doesn't even get his entrance shown. Hilarious. I'd say it's sad, but everything I've ever read about Greg Valentine makes me think he's a gigantic dickhead, so it's not that sad. Quake takes control early on, forcing Valentine into the corner and repeatedly shoulder-blocking him. Quake follows up with a delayed power slam and makes the cover, but Valentine kicks out. Quake whips Valentine across the ring and goes for the corner splash, but Valentine dodges and starts beating him down. Valentine tries to whip Quake across the ring, but he doesn't budge. Quake then reverses the whip, sending Valentine into the corner.
Valentine knocks Quake down to one knee with elbows and fires away at him, but Quake won't go down. Valentine hits a clothesline, which Quake doesn't fall for, and goes to the second for a diving elbow, finally knocking him down. Valentine follows up with an elbow drop before headbutting Quake in the gut. Valentine works the legs and tries to lock in the Figure Four, but Jimmy Hart hops up on the apron and distracts him. Quake recovers and hits Valentine in the back, knocking him down and putting him in position for Quake to hit an elbow drop. Quake calls for the sitdown splash, runs the ropes, and crushes Valentine for the three and the win. Quake tries to hit the splash again, but Valentine rolls out of the ring to avoid it.

The Verdict

Another nothing match. That's all I can really say about it.

Match #5: L.O.D. vs Power & Glory

Our fifth match sees the Legion of Doom, better known as the Road Warriors, taking on Power & Glory, the team of Hercules and Paul Roma. The legendary Road Warriors left WCW and joined the WWF in the summer of 1990, and after we sort of kind of got the dream match-up between L.O.D. and Demolition, they're wrestling their first WrestleMania match. Power & Glory formed last summer...that's kind of it for them. This match also earned a DUD rating from Meltzer, and was too short to get a rating on Cagematch. Are you noticing a pattern?
Power & Glory don't get a televised entrance, but I guess that's still better than making an entrance while Henry Winkler gets interviewed. Power & Glory jump L.O.D. out of the ring as soon as they enter, knocking Animal to the outside while they double-team Hawk. Hawks ducks dual back elbows and dual clotheslines before hitting a double clothesline of his own. Power & Glory recover, with Hercules backdropping Hawk out of the ring and Roma bodyslamming Animal. Hercules & Hawk brawl at ringside while Roma goes to the top rope. Roma goes for a crossbody, but Animal catches him with a powerslam. Animal wastes no time, lifting Roma up on his shoulder as Hawk climbs to the top. L.O.D. hits the Doomsday Device for the three and the win in under a minute.

A brief, but inoffensive match with a fun spot. Not much else to say.

Match #6: The Mountie vs Tito Santana

We're gonna skip over Virgil vs Ted DiBiase, which was pretty disappointing overall given the feud, but I don't know if it's bad enough for this series (side note; I'll definitely cover it if someone wants me to), and jump right to the penultimate match on the card, pitting The Mountie with Jimmy Hart in his corner against Tito Santana. Following the retirement of his brother Ray, Jacques Rougeau took on the gimmick of The Mountie, a comedy heel, and a corrupt member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. It's a super cheesy gimmick, but I personally think it's a lot of fun. Santana, on the other hand, has been kind of floating around the WWF undercard since the breakup of Strike Force, and is a few months away from becoming the bullfighter El Matador. This match would earn a show-low negative half-star rating from Meltzer, and (say it with me) wasn't long enough to get a rating on Cagematch.
The match starts with a headlock from Santana. The Mountie pushes Santana back towards the ropes and pushes out. The Mountie then leapfrogs Santana as he runs the ropes, but a second leapfrog is countered by Santana with a crossbody. I liked that spot. The Mountie rolls out of the ring and cowers with Jimmy Hart, only for Santana to follow him out and crack their heads together. Santana throws the Mountie back in the ring, and keeps him in the ring when he tries to crawl back out. Santana hits an Atomic drop before dropping the Mountie with a punch. The Mountie tries to escape again, but Santana keeps a hold of him. Since the Mountie is in the ropes, the referee breaks the hold, allowing Hart to hand the Mountie his cattle prod. Santana shoves the referee out of the way, allowing the Mountie to jab him in the chest and shock him. The Mountie quickly makes the cover, gets the three, and his man in quick fashion. Gorilla Monsoon straight up says on commentary that this match will go down in the record books as a win for the Mountie, but not anyone who watched it.

The Verdict

Like the last match, this one is short, but inoffensive. I don't really think this deserves a negative rating, though, especially if the L.O.D./Power & Glory match only got a DUD.

Match #7: Hulk Hogan vs Sgt. Slaughter

Who's ready for some ol' fashioned exploitation? The final match we'll be taking a look at is the main event, where Sgt. Slaughter defended the WWF Championship against Hulk Hogan. After a five-year absence from the company, Slaughter returned to the WWF in August of last year. At the same time, the United States became involved in the Gulf War, which was prompted by Iraq's invasion of Kuwait. The WWF took the opportunity to turn the once-patriotic military veteran into an anti-American turncoat who sided and sympathized with Iraq and their leader Saddam Hussein. Keep in mind, again, that the Gulf War wasn't some long-ended conflict, it was still very much happening. The majority of this storyline was happening in the middle of Operation Desert Shield, where the coalition against Iraq built up their military. With his manager General Adnan (Shiek Adnan Al-Kaissey from the AWA) by his side, Slaughter would capture the WWF Championship at the 1991 Royal Rumble, just two days after the beginning of Operation Desert Storm and the aerial bombings against Iraq. Hulk Hogan would win the Royal Rumble match that same night, and took a stand against Slaughter's pro-Iraq ways, setting up this match, which would take place one month after the war had ended.
All of this has gone on to be considered incredibly poor taste given that these were still transpiring events, and is some of the cheapest heat you'll see. This storyline also didn't do much to push ticket sales. WrestleMania VII was originally supposed to take place in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, a then-93,000+ seat stadium, with the goal of selling over 100,000 tickets. However, the show was moved down the street to the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena, a significantly smaller venue that can fit under 17,000 seats for wrestling & boxing. The WWF has claimed the heat for Slaughter was so bad that security concerns were too much to run the Coliseum, but multiple outlets have claimed it was moved due to poor ticket sales, with Dave Meltzer even reporting that the company didn't have to refund any tickets due to the move. As such, WrestleMania VII has the second-lowest attendance in the history of the event. The only WrestleMania with a worse attendance (not counting the Chicago & Los Angeles portions of WrestleMania 2, which was a show split for three venues) was WrestleMania 36, and when the only edition of the event you could outdraw was one that was held during a global pandemic that nobody outside the company could attend, you've failed pretty bad.
As for the match itself, it's generally considered one of the worst WrestleMania main events of all time. It currently sits at a 3.35 on Cagematch, the fifth worst of eligible matches on the site. Dave Meltzer, on the other hand, was kinder, giving it a two-and-a-half-star rating. Let's judge it for ourselves.
Before the match, we get some special guests for the main event. Doing commentary will be Regis Philbin, doing the timekeeping is Marla Maples, and Alex Trebek is doing the ring announcing. Maples rings the bell before Slaughter has even taken off his belt and entrance shirt, let alone is in the ring with Hogan, prompting Hogan to exit and chase him & Adnan around ringside and into the ring. After over a minute and a half of stalling. We then get nearly over a minute and a half of Slaughter taking off his belt and his shirt, him & Hogan circling each other, pausing, and circling some more. The first two minutes of this match have zero wrestling. The two finally lock up, tussling into the ropes until the referee breaks them up. They immediately lock up again and fight right back into the ropes. The referee breaks them up again, and they go right back to the lock-up. Hogan finally gets the better of the exchange, shoving Slaughter to the ground.
After about 30 seconds of arguing and circling, the two lock up again. Hogan puts on a headlock, but fights out and sends Hogan towards the ropes. Slaughter goes for a shoulder block, but Hogan doesn't budge. Slaughter drops down as Hogan runs the ropes, but Hogan keeps control with a shoulder block. Slaughter retreats from the ring, but Hogan follows him out. Hogan beats down Slaughter until Adnan hits him from behind. Hogan goes after Adnan as Slaughter grabs a chair and hits him across the back. Even though the referee is looking right at it, no DQ, as Hogan no sells the chair shot. Slaughter retreats, but Hogan tosses him back in the ring. Slaughter gains the upper hand, however, with an eye poke. Slaughter punches Hogan around the ring before hitting a back elbow. More punches before Slaughter hits two knee drops. Slaughter tries to follow up with an elbow drop, but Hogan avoids it and fires up (not Hulks up, it's different.)
Hogan hits an Axe Bomber (a lariat) and fends off Adnan when he gets on the apron. Hogan rakes Slaughter's eyes before whipping him across the ring and hitting a back elbow. Hogan follows up with an Atomic Drop and makes the cover, but Slaughter kicks out at two. Slaughter rolls out of the ring, but Hogan follows him out and keeps control. Hogan rakes the back before tossing Slaughter back in the ring, where he hits a running elbow for a two count. Hogan tosses Slaughter's head into the turnbuckle three times before backdropping him. Hogan whips Slaughter across the ring before kneeing him in the back and slingshotting him into the corner. Hogan continues beating down before hitting a corner clothesline. Hogan follows up with eight punches in the corner before throwing Slaughter into the turnbuckle, which gets a two-count. This is weird, I'm not used to babyface Hogan so thoroughly trouncing his opponent.
Hogan goes to the second rope and, despite a distraction from Adnan, hits a double axe handle followed by a body slam. Hogan follows up with two elbow drops before going to the top rope. Adnan interferes again, grabbing his foot and allowing Slaughter to toss him to the mat. Slaughter follows up by clotheslining Hogan out of the ring, following him out and tossing him into the ring post. Slaughter grabs another chair and hits Hogan in the back. The referee was distracted by Adnan and didn't see it, but he definitely saw the second hit, which doesn't get a DQ. Slaughter then starts choking Hogan with a camera cable, which also doesn't get a DQ. This isn't a no disqualification match, just pointing that out. Just a flagrant disregard for the rules.
Slaughter throws Hogan back into the ring, where he clubs Hogan in the back. Slaughter continues targeting the back before hitting a backbreaker, which gets a two-count. Slaughter stomps away at Hogan's back before locking in the Boston Crab. They're right next to the ropes, prompting Regis Philbin to wonder why Hogan doesn't just grab the ropes. I mean...he's not wrong. After about 30 seconds in the hold, Hogan finally does just reach for the ropes. Slaughter continues working the back, dropping knees before going to the top rope for a diving stomp. Slaughter makes the cover and gets a visual three, but for no reason whatsoever, Adnan hops up on the apron to distract the referee. Once the referee turns his attention to the pin, Hogan kicks out at two. What the fuck is happening with this match?
Adnan distracts the referee again as Slaughter exits the ring and grabs another chair. Slaughter hits Hogan in the head with the chair, busting him open. Slaughter makes the cover, but Hogan kicks out. Slaughter stomps & punches away at Hogan before knocking him down with the Slaughter Cannon clothesline. Slaughter locks in the Camel Clutch, eventually breaking the hold to stomp his back again. Slaughter reapplies the Clutch, but after 40 seconds, Hogan powers out. In an incredible, Slaughter climbs onto Hogan's back, but Hogan still gets up to his feet. That was great, I liked that. Slaughter keeps control, however, when he shoves Hogan into the corner. Slaughter calls for Adnan to hand him the flag of Iraq he carries down to the ring, draping it over Hogan as he makes the cover, but Hogan kicks out. Hogan rips the flag in half and Hulks Up. Slaughter punches do nothing, and Hogan blocks a punch, delivers three of his own, hits the big boot, hits the leg drop, gets the three, the win, and the title. Hogan waves the American flag to close out the show.

The Verdict

This match stinks. I know Hogan's become a pretty recurring face in these entries, but honestly, he's not the worst part of this match. Slaughter just didn't have anything in this match, barely doing anything that required a lot of effort. On top of that, there's so much stalling, and so much downtime, and so many times the rules go out the window for no real reason. All in all, this was a bad match, an even worse WrestleMania main event, and one that deserves its reputation.

    Another fun review as always!
    The IWC lately have been saying that Bray Wyatt will never have a great match besides multi man matches and the matches involving Daniel Bryan which I do think it's untrue because he can be a solid brawler if put in the right stuff so I'm going to list the good/great/awesome Bray Wyatt one on one matches in my opinion and it does include gimmick/cinematic matches.

      Bray definitely gets a bad wrap because of the pretty wacky booking that comes with his gimmicks. He's certainly had his fair share of good matches like the ones you've listed above, and his worst matches tend to be kneecapped by booking & creative as opposed to his actual wrestling (the Hell in a Cell vs Seth or the Wyatt Swamp Fight)

An often discussed aspect of professional wrestling is the backstage politicking of Hulk Hogan. Throughout his career as a major attraction in wrestling, Hogan's philosophy has always been to protect Hulk Hogan...OK, sometimes he'd help Ed Leslie, but most of the time it was to protect Hulk Hogan. Because of that philosophy and Hogan's influence as a top guy, there have been multiple instances where a company's booking and other wrestlers have suffered as a result. Would having Mr. Perfect win the 1990 Royal Rumble made sense and could have elevated a rising star and potentially created a new main event player? Yes, but that would require Hogan to not win, and that doesn't work for Hogan, so he wins the Rumble even though he doesn't need elevating. Would booking Randy Orton to beat Hogan at SummerSlam 20

Worst in the World: D-Generation X vs Brothers of Destruction-Crown Jewel

This match didn't need to happen. After Triple H and the Undertaker had one of the most brutally bad matches of 2018 at Super Show-Down not even a month earlier, nobody wanted to see them try to wrestle again. Also, nobody wanted to see Shawn Michaels come out of retirement after his fantastic sendoff in 2010, especially for a match like this. But here we are, Triple H & Shawn Michaels facing The Undertaker & Kane in 2018. The combined ages of these four at the time is 206. That's a number you'd expect to see from a match at Heroes of Wrestling. And anyone can come up with their own reason as to why this match is happening, but that would just be ignoring the actual reason. For those of you who don't know, Crown Jewel was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. That might not seem like important information, but you can't really discuss this match without mentioning it.
