Worst in the World: WWE's Worst Casket Matches

It's only fitting that a legend like The Undertaker would have not just one, but multiple signature matches in the WWE. Easily the most iconic of the bunch is the Hell in a Cell, a match that became so legendary that it expanded beyond Taker himself, and has become a fixture of the company. Right behind it is the Buried Alive match, a stipulation that might not produce the must-see in-ring work, it creates a must-see, over-the-top spectacle. And then there's the Casket match, which is...also there.
Out of the three, the Casket match, even as the oldest of the bunch is definitely the lesser of Taker's signature matches. It doesn't have the same history of match quality that the Hell in a Cell does, and while it's pretty similar to the Buried Alive match, it doesn't match the presentation the Buried Alive match brings. It also doesn't help that throughout history, Casket matches just haven't been that great. Genuinely, there's one Casket match in WWE that is considered good, and it's Taker vs Shawn Michaels at the 1998 Royal Rumble. Every other one is either unremarkable or just bad. So, for Halloween this year (and definitely not November 1st because I underestimated how long it would take to write this), I'll be looking at five of the worst Casket matches in WWE history (that I haven't already covered) to close out the month of October.

Match #1: The Undertaker vs Kamala

We start this quintuple feature at the best place to start...the beginning. It's Survivor Series 1992, and The Undertaker is facing Kamala in the WWF's first-ever Casket match. Technically, this match is advertised as a "Coffin match", and you have to pin your opponent before putting him in the coffin. Taker's in the middle of, almost unarguably, the worst stretch of his full-time in-ring career. This storyline is less a feud with Kamala and more a feud with whoever Harvey Wippleman was managing, which in this case was Kamala. Seriously, Taker spends a FULL CALENDER YEAR feuding with Wippleman's wrestlers, beginning with Kamala at SummerSlam that year before moving on to Giant Gonzalez. It was a truly terrible time to be alive.
As for Kamala, he's back in the WWF after nearly five years away. He left the company in 1987, and bounced around various promotions before landing back in the WWF, along with his handler Kim Chee, with Wippleman as his manager. Taker & Kamala's match at SummerSlam ended in a DQ win for Taker after Kim Chee hit him with his helmet. Taker's manager Paul Bearer would proceed to taunt Kamala, wheeling coffins down to ringside and terrifying him, causing him to run out of the ring. Finally, Bearer would reveal Taker was making a special coffin for Kamala and their match at Survivor Series. The Casket/Coffin match kicked off not with a bang, but a whimper, as it got a DUD (zero stars) rating from Dave Meltzer, and currently holds a 3.56 out of 10 rating on Cagematch.net.
Harvey Wippleman snatches the mic away from Howard Finkel as he does his ring introductions. Wippleman says Kamala will survive the Coffin match as Kamala & Kim Chee walk down to the ring. The gong hits as Paul Bearer, pushing the coffin decorated with Kamala's body paint down to the ring, leads Taker to the ring. Taker lifts the unattached lid off the coffin before entering the ring. The bell rings as Taker stalks toward Kamala. Kamala prepares to chop Taker, but Taker doesn't flinch. Kamala jumps out of the ring, so Taker follows him out. They do that exact same spot three times, just at ringside, before Kamala crawls back in the ring.
Kamala lands the first blows of the match, chopping Taker as he climbs back in the ring. Kamala chops away at Taker before slamming his head into the top turnbuckle. Taker no sells, however, and blocks another chop before landing multiple palm strikes. Taker puts on the wristlock and climbs to the top rope, jumping off and hitting Old School. Taker slams Kamala's head into the top turnbuckle before hitting a short arm clothesline, knocking Kamala down. Taker chokes Kamala against the mat before hitting another palm strike. Taker Irish whips Kamala into the ropes and goes for a back body drop, but Kamala counters with a punch.
Kamala strikes away at Taker, landing double palm strikes, chops, and even a thrust kick before clotheslining him out of the ring. Taker lands on his feet right between Wippleman and Kim Chee, so he grabs them both by the throat. Kamala makes the save, however, leaving the ring and chopping Taker in the back. Kamala slams Taker's head into the steel steps before hitting him with Kim Chee's helmet. More chops before Kamala slams Taker's head into the steps again. Kamala then grabs a chair and smashes Taker across the back with it.
Kamala rolls Taker back in the ring, only for Paul Bearer to raise his urn. Any kind of comeback is cut off by Kamala, who kicks Taker in the gut before bodyslamming him. Taker sits up immediately. Kamala hits another double palm strike before bodyslamming Taker again. Taker sits up immediately again. Another chop and another bodyslam, and despite an attempted sit-up, Taker stays down. Kamala follows up with a splash, then another, and another. Bearer hops up on the apron with the urn, but Kim Chee trips him, causing him to drop the urn into the ring.
Kamala kicks the urn to Kim Chee, only for Kim Chee to tell him to use it as a weapon and throw it back to him. Scared, Kamala fumbles the urn as Taker gets back to his feet. Taker grabs the urn as Kamala tries to leave the ring, only to be scared by the coffin at ringside. Taker smashes Kamala with the urn, giving it back to Bearer before slowly pinning Kamala. Taker ends the match, rolling Kamala into the coffin as Bearer grabs a hammer and nails. Taker nails the coffin lid shut, giving him the win.

The Verdict

It's not super long, but it's still an incredibly boring watch. It's a slow brawl with the most complex move being a couple splashes. When the strongest part is someone walking slowly at someone, you know it's bad.

Match #2: The Undertaker vs Yokozuna

Once Taker finished up his feud with Wippleman's crew, Taker would move on to a much higher profile match-up, as he would challenge WWF Champion Yokozuna for the title. The two would face off on opposite sides of a Survivor Series match-up, during which they brawled outside the ring for a double countout. Seemingly only feuding with people who were afraid of caskets around this time, Taker & Paul Bearer would taunt Yoko in the following months with videos of Taker constructing a "double wide, double deep" casket. This culminates in a Casket match (the first to actually be called that) at the Royal Rumble 1994. The Casket match is 0-1 in terms of reception, and it's not getting a win here, as it received a single star from Dave Meltzer and sits at a respectable 5.31 on Cagematch.
A nervous Yokozuna's out first, alongside his managers Mr. Fuji and Jim Cornette. They are followed by Bearer, leading The Undertaker down to the ring while wheeling the extra large casket. The bell rings, but it's literally another 30 seconds before the two go face-to-face in the middle of the ring. Yoko backs off, prompting Taker to return to his corner. Yoko charges in to blindside him, but Taker sidesteps him, sending him crashing into the corner. Taker lands a palm strike followed by a clothesline. Yoko teeters, but stays on his feet, so Taker follows up with a leaping clothesline to knock him down. Another palm strike from Taker causes Yoko to fall out of the ring. Yoko lands on his, but a dazed Yoko stumbles into the ring post.
Taker exits the ring, but Yoko gains the advantage with a punch. Yoko slams Taker's head into the steel steps, but Taker no sells and slams Yoko's head into the steps. Yoko retreats into the ring, but Taker follows him in and kicks him. Taker puts on a wristlock and climbs to the top, leaping off and hitting Old School. Taker tries to follow up with another leaping clothesline, but Yoko ducks it, sending Taker out of the ring. Yoko rolls out after him and grabs a chair. Yoko goes for a headshot, but Taker blocks it, ripping the chair out of his hands and smashing him across the back. Taker follows up with a shot to the head before grabbing an elementary school chair the timekeeper was sitting on, for some reason.
There's a 99.9% chance you sat in a chair that looked exactly like this in third grade.
Taker slams Yoko's head into the ring apron, but Yoko gains the upper hand, grabbing a handful of salt from Mr. Fuji's bucket and throwing it in Taker's eyes. Taker flails blindly, allowing Yoko to beat down Taker, slamming his head into the steps before hitting him in the back with the chair. Yoko follows up with a chair shot to the back of the head before headbutting him. Yoko repeatedly slams Taker's head into the steps before tossing him back in the ring. Yoko climbs back in himself before clotheslining Taker.
Referee Earl Hebner opens the lid as Yoko rolls Taker into the casket. Yoko calls for the lid to be closed, but Taker reaches out and grabs Yoko. Taker climbs back into the ring. The two trade blows until Taker gets the upper hand with multiple palm strikes. Yoko cuts off the comeback, however with a belly-to-belly suplex. Before Yoko can get up, Taker sits up and grabs him by the throat. Taker hits the Chokeslam, for which Yokozuna does not go even an inch higher than he was standing.
Taker tries to follow up with an Irish whip, but Yoko reverses it and goes for a back body drop. Taker counters it, however, with a jumping DDT, leaving both men down. Taker sits up and calls for the casket to be opened. Taker rolls Yoko into the casket and goes to close the lid himself, only to be attacked from behind by Crush.
Crush throws Taker back in the ring and strikes away at him before going for an Irish whip. Crush goes for a clothesline, but Taker ducks it and floors him with a clothesline. Taker strikes Crush out of the ring as, of all people, The Great Kabuki runs down to the ring. Kabuki's a then-near 20-year veteran wrestler from Japan, best known in America for his time in World Class Championship Wrestling, where the character originated. Kabuki's also the first wrestler to use the colored mist. In storyline, Kabuki was brought into the WWF by Fuji as part of the ongoing Yoko/Lex Luger feud. Since Luger's WWF title match at SummerSlam was, contractually, his only shot at the title, a deal was made for him to compete in the Royal Rumble as long as Kabuki and another wrestler we'll be seeing shortly were also allowed to compete.
Kabuki strikes away at Taker as that other wrestler, Japanese wrestling legend Genichiro Tenryu. Kabuki & Tenryu give Taker a double Irish whip and go for the double clothesline, but they're not Better Than You Bay Bay, so Taker ducks it and hits a double clothesline of his own. Taker goes to close the lid of the casket again, only for Bam Bam Bigelow to run out. Taker quickly kicks him in the gut, but the distraction allows Crush to attack him from behind. All four interferers beat down Taker in the corner as Yoko climbs out of the casket to help. Mr. Fuji has also stolen Paul Bearer's urn, but Bearer gets it back by kicking him in the gut. Bearer hits Fuji with the urn right after before hitting Jim Cornette with it as well.
With all five men pushing Taker towards the casket, Bearer brings the urn over, Taker regains his strength and fights off all five men. Adam Bomb runs down to the ring as Crush holds Taker in place and Bigelow grabs Fuji's bucket. Bigelow tries to hit Taker, but Taker ducks and Crush takes the hit. Taker steals the bucket and hits Bomb & Bigelow, knocking Bigelow out of the ring. Taker hits Bomb again, followed by Kabuki, as Jeff Jarrett runs down to the ring. Taker hits Bomb a third time as Jarrett climbs to the top rope and dives at Taker. Taker, however, hits him with the bucket. Bigelow's back in the ring so he can get hit with the bucket again before Jarrett takes another bucket shot.
Eventually, Bomb, Kabuki, and Tenryu swarm Taker. Taker gets some shots in, but he's overwhelmed as the Headshrinkers, Fatu (the future Rikishi) and Samu run down to the ring to join the beatdown. The Headshrinkers hit a double superkick. Bearer climbs on the apron and raises the urn again as Taker fights back, but everyone swarms him as Diesel joins the fray. Everyone shoves Taker into the casket and try to close the lid, but Taker forces it open and keeps the match alive. Taker tees off on everyone as he climbs out of the casket and onto the apron. Again, he gets swarmed as he's dragged back into the ring. Yoko steals the urn and knocks Bearer off the apron. Everyone holds Taker in place for Yokozuna to hit him with the urn.
Yoko opens the urn, and green smoke pours out. Crush suplexes Taker as Jarrett climbs to the second rope for a diving fist drop. Diesel gives Taker an elbow drop as Bam Bam Bigelow climbs to the top rope for a diving headbutt. Samu climbs to the top rope for a diving splash, so his fellow Headshrinker Fatu does the same. Bomb, Kabuki, and Tenryu don't get to do their moves, as everyone drags Taker to the casket. Yoko delivers the final kick, pushing Taker into the casket as everyone else closes it, giving him the win.
Everyone pushes the casket to the back, only for the gong to hit. More green smoke, this time from the casket. The lights go out as Taker, laid out inside the casket, appears on the big screen. Another gong wakes him up, as Taker says his spirit lives through all mankind, and his candle of life cannot be extinguished. Taker says he will be reborn, and that he will not rest in peace. The casket on the screen explodes before, as I wrote last week, The Undertaker's Marty Jannety-looking spirit ghost floats into the sky.

The Verdict

I'm kind of torn. On one hand, I don't think the match itself is too bad. It's mostly brawling with a couple of actual spots, but it's still better than the first Casket match. On the other hand, that final beatdown section just DOESN'T FUCKING END. It is, no joke, at least half the match, and probably even more than that. It's not even a fun beatdown, just a bunch of dudes endlessly& slowly punching each other. They don't hit any kind of move until the very end. Because of that, I'm knocking it down below the first Casket match.

Match #3: The Undertaker vs Yokozuna...Again

Taker would be gone for seven months following the '94 Royal Rumble, but would return at that year's SummerSlam to defeat Ted DiBiase's fake Undertaker (see last week's post.) After defeating his doppelganger, Taker would set his sights on Yokozuna once again, and once again, they'd face off in a Casket match. This time, however, the match would have a special outside enforcer...Chuck Norris. At the time (and before he was mainly known for the various facts about him), Norris was in the middle of just the second of what would be nine seasons of Walker, Texas Ranger. Could this sequel outdo the lackluster original?...Yes, apparently. This is a rarity on the Worst in the World; a match where both the star rating and the Cagematch rating are, overall, decent. Dave Meltzer gave the match two and a half stars, while Cagematch has it at a 5.97. Those aren't great ratings, but in this series, that's fantastic. Still, this match did get requested, and by the rules of this series that I made up, I must cover it. Let's take a look.
Once again, A nervous Yokozuna comes down to the ring with Jim Cornette and Mr. Fuji, while The Undertaker comes with Paul Bearer. Taker, however, has a fun entrance, as the big screen splits apart before Taker walks out from behind it.
Meanwhile, Bearer rolls the casket down to the ring. Taker points at the casket, which startles Yoko so much that he falls backwards. Yoko tries to leave the ring, but Taker grabs him and strikes him. Taker tries to Irish whip Yoko into the corner, but Yoko reverses and sends Taker into the corner. Yoko charges in and hits a body avalanche, but Taker no sells and stalks towards Yoko.
Yoko tries to punch Taker, but Taker blocks it and palm strikes him. Taker whips Yoko towards the casket, causing Yoko to slow down in fear. Taker delivers another palm strike, causing Yoko to fall through the ropes and onto the casket. Yoko runs away from the casket in fear as Taker tries to pull Yoko back into the ring. Yoko ends up grabbing Taker instead and drags him out of the ring. He goes for another punch, but Taker blocks it and strikes him again. Taker slams Yoko's head into the ring steps before Yoko walks around ringside. Yoko eventually gets back in the ring, with Taker following him.
After a kick and a strike, Taker grabs a wristlock and climbs to the top rope, diving off and hitting Old School. Yoko stays on his feet and goes for a clothesline, but Taker ducks. Taker hits the ropes and charges at Yoko, but Yoko catches him with a great Samoan Drop. Taker quickly sits up & gets up, but Yoko quickly takes him down with a clothesline. Taker sits up again, so Yoko knocks him down again with headbutts. Yoko rolls Taker to the casket as the referees open it, but Taker fights back with punches from the apron.
Taker follows up by dragging Yoko's head into the top rope, causing him to fall down. Taker climbs back in the ring and goes for an elbow drop, but Yoko rolls out of the way. Yoko follows up with an Urnage and a leg drop before calling for the casket to be opened. Yoko rolls Taker into the casket and tries to close it, but Taker keeps it open. Taker strikes Yoko before pulling him into the casket, where he continues striking him. Taker tries to climb out, but Yoko pulls him back and punches him. Taker regains control and strikes Yoko, only for Mr. Fuji to grab him by the hair to stop him.
Taker climbs out of the casket and stalks toward Fuji, allowing Yoko to climb back into the ring. Jim Cornette tries to hit Taker from behind with his tennis racket, but Taker turns around and strikes him to the ground.
Taker climbs back into the ring, only for Yoko to quickly body slam him. Yoko punches Taker, sending him out the ring, and punches him down again when he climbs onto the apron. Yoko continues to prevent Taker from getting back in the ring, even managing to throw his head into the steel steps from the ring.
Eventually, Taker gets back in the ring, but Yoko keeps control and beats him down in the corner.
Yoko chokes Taker against the ropes before going back to beating him down in the corner. Taker fights back, and the two trade blows before Yoko whips Taker into the corner. Taker fires back with a clothesline and a kick and goes for an Irish whip. Yoko reverses it and goes for a back body drop, but Taker avoids it and throws Yoko to the mat. Taker goes to the top rope and hits a diving clothesline.
Taker rolls Yoko to the casket, only for King Kong Bundy to come out from the back. Two referees try to stop him as Chuck Norris stands his ground. Bam Bam Bigelow comes out from the back as well. In the chaos, Irwin R. Schyster, who runs in from the crowd and attacks Taker from behind. I.R.S rams Taker's head into the top turnbuckle multiple times before ducking a clothesline and locking in a sleeper hold. Taker fades before I.R.S. dumps him into the casket. I.R.S. did that...to The Undertaker...wild.
I.R.S. exits through the crowd as Yoko recovers and crawls to the casket. He tries to close the lid, but Taker springs to life and grabs him by the throat. Taker climbs out of the casket and onto the apron as Jeff Jarrett comes out from the back. Chuck Norris, however, fends him off with a thrust kick. Back in the ring Taker strikes away at Yoko and goes for an Irish whip, but Yoko reverses it. Yoko goes for a clothesline, but Taker ducks it and hits a jumping clothesline. Taker follows up with a jumping DDT and a big boot, which sends Yoko through the ropes and into the casket. Taker then grabs the flag pole with the flag of Japan that Mr. Fuji carries and snaps it in half. Finally, Taker slams the lid shut for the win.

The Verdict

Significantly better than their previous match. It's still mostly slow brawling and there's still interference, but the brawling is broken up a lot more actual wrestling, and the interference is far less excessive. This is going towards the top of the list.

Match #4: The Undertaker vs Heidenreich

There would be plenty of casket matches between Survivor Series 1994 and this one from the 2005 Royal Rumble, but the majority of them don't have terrible ratings, so I decided not to include them. That brings us to this match; The Undertaker vs Heidenreich. The fact that I've been doing this series for almost seven full years and guys like Dean Malenko, Chris Jericho, Tomohiro Ishii, and even Kazuchika Okada have all had singles matches covered before any of Heidenreich's matches is shocking. Jon Heidenreich came into the WWF back in 2001 after a six-year career in professional football. His first few years in wrestling were weird, as he'd leave, return (during which the company changed to WWE), debut on TV, and then disappear again in 2004.
Heidenreich would return later that year, now as a psycho who loved poetry. In hindsight, Heidenreich was a massive flop, as he'd be gone by 2006, and is mostly remembered for his infamous segment where he kidnaps Michael Cole. At the time, however, WWE clearly thought he had big potential. Case and point, his very first feud would be against The Undertaker. Heidenreich would cost Taker a WWE Championship match against JBL. Taker would beat Heidenreich at Survivor Series, but Heidenreich would cost Taker the WWE Championship in another match, this time a Fatal 4-Way at Armageddon. A rematch was set for the Royal Rumble, with SmackDown General Manager Teddy Long letting Taker pick the stipulation. Taker would choose a Casket match. Why? Because Heidenreich is afraid of caskets. There's gotta be more than one storyline you can do for a Casket match. This match got three-quarters of a star from Dave Meltzer, while it sits at a 3.33 on Cagematch.
Before the match, druids drag a casket down to ringside. The two lock-up to start, with Taker quickly slapping on a headlock. Taker drags Heidenreich towards the casket, but Heidenreich is able to break free. Another lock-up leads to another headlock from Taker. Heidenreich powers out of this one, but Taker keeps control with a shoulder block. Heidenreich tries to respond with a hip toss, but Taker blocks it and hits one of his own. Taker follows up with an arm drag, keeping a hold of Heidenreich's arm as he drags him towards the casket. Heidenreich breaks free again.
A third headlock sees Heidenreich slap on a headlock, and this time Taker powers out. Heidenreich takes Taker down with a shoulder block. Another lock-up leads to another headlock by Heidenreich. Taker powers out again, but Heidenreich knocks him down with another shoulder block. Taker fakes a lock-up, instead picking Heidenreich's ankle and taking him down. Taker drops an elbow across Heidenreich's leg before locking in a single-leg Boston crab. Heidenreich crawls to the ropes and out of the ring on the side with the casket, after which he quickly runs away.
Heidenreich starts to walk away, but Taker catches up to him and knees him in the gut. Taker goes for an Irish whip, but Heidenrech reverses it, sending Taker into the side of the casket. Heidenreich beats down Taker before slamming his head into the casket. It's around here where we see Heidenreich's idea to make his punches feel more real is to yell "BANG" every time he throws one. It's hilarious.
Heidenreich tosses Taker back in the ring, where he beats him down in the corner. Taker falls to the mat, so Heidenreich switches to stomps. He stands Taker back up so he goes back to punches. Heidenreich yells "MY WORLD!" in Taker's face a bunch, only for Taker to leap up and lock him in a triangle choke against the ropes. Heidenreich fades and falls to the mat, but Taker keeps the hold locked in. Suddenly, Gene Snitsky runs in and starts stomping out Taker, freeing Heidenreich. Prior to the match, the two had a backstage segment where Snitsky said he had a plan for this. Snitsky stomps out Taker before hitting a big clothesline.
Snitsky & Heidenreich team up, hitting a double suplex on Taker before taking turns dropping elbows. Snitsky calls for the casket to be opened by referees Charles Robinson and Jimmy Korderas, only for Kane to be inside when they do. Kane takes the fight to Snitsky & Heidenreich, booting Heidenreich out of the ring before sending Snitsky & himself out with a clothesline. Kane punches Snitsky over the barricade, and he beats him down throughout the crowd. This whole angle was apparently supposed to lead to a tag match at WrestleMania 21, pitting Taker & Kane against Snitsky & Heidenreich, but obviously, that got axed.
Heidenreich cautiously opts to push the casket away from the ring. This distraction allows Taker to slam his head into the casket. Taker goes for an Irish whip, but Heidenreich reverses it, sending Taker barreling over the ring steps. Heidenreich pulls the protective mat off the ground, exposing a part of the concrete. It's not to slam Taker on, however, as he ends up slamming Taker's head into the apron. Instead, Heidenreich exposed the concrete to clear a path for him to push the casket, sending it crashing into Taker. Heidenreich throws Taker back in the ring while Jimmy Korderas puts the casket back in place.
Heidenreich locks in a Cobra Clutch, causing Taker to fade. The referees open the lid, allowing Heidenreich to roll Taker into the casket. Heidenreich tries to close the lid, only for Taker to reach out and stop it with his arm. Taker tees off on Heidenreich with punches before dragging his head into the casket. Taker closes the lid over his head and leg drops it. Taker goes for a Chokeslam, but Heidenreich avoids it with a headbutt. Taker stumbles into the corner, where Heidenreich Irish whips him to the opposite corner. Heidenreich charges in, but Taker catches him with a big boot. Taker hits the ropes and charges at Heidenreich, only for Heidenreich to catch him with a spinning back suplex (a.k.a Baron Corbin's Deep Six.)
For some reason, Heidenreich makes sure to pin Taker before dragging him back to the casket. Heidenreich dumps Taker in and tries to close the lid, only for Taker to reach up and grab him by the throat. Taker fights back into the ring, and the two trade blows. Taker gets the better of the exchange and goes for the Irish whip, but Heidenreich reverses it. Heidenreich goes for a back body drop, but Taker catches him with the jumping DDT. Taker follows up with the Chokeslam and the Tombstone Piledriver before rolling Heidenreich over to the casket. Taker boots Heidenreich in before closing the lid for the win.

The Verdict

Honestly, a lot more fun than I expected. Sure, Heidenreich is very limited in what he can do (I think he legit does two moves) and there's a noticeable amount of interference, but I think Taker's skills and wrestling make up for the shortcomings. Overall, another one going high on the list.

Match #5: The Undertaker vs Chavo Guerrero

So, one match left, and I'll be honest, it's probably not the most exciting one I could end on. It's more than likely the majority of you have either never seen this match, or have no memory of it. That match is The Undertaker vs Chavo Guerrero in the main event of, fittingly, the 2008 Halloween episode of SmackDown. This match came out of an ongoing Undertaker-Big Show feud that spun out of, oddly enough, an Undertaker-Vickie Guerrero feud over Taker refusing to forgive her for banishing him from SmackDown. Big Show's been fighting on her behalf, but not tonight. In what Vickie says will be Taker's final casket match, her nephew-in-law Chavo will be "subjecting him to all of that suffering." I can only assume it's because Chavo is afraid of caskets. Chavo did not appear happy about this decision from Vickie either. This match doesn't have a star rating or enough votes (five) for an average on Cagematch, its one rating is a 2/10. Let's take a look.
Once again, druids wheel the casket down to ringside before the match. Also before the match, the Big Show comes out from the back. The bell rings as Chavo circles the ring, avoiding Taker. Chavo starts to leave the ring, but gets scared by the casket and runs back. Taker catches him with a big boot. Taker slams Chavo's head into the top turnbuckle before striking away at him in the corner. Taker tosses Chavo out of the ring, following him out so he can Irish whip him into the barricade. Taker picks Chavo up and hits Snake Eyes onto the casket. Taker opens the lid and jams Chavo's head between the casket and the lid before slamming his hand onto the lid.
Taker follows up by slamming Chavo's head into the casket before punching away at him. Taker turns his attention to Big Show before running back for a big boot. Chavo dodges, however, and Taker flies balls first into the casket. Chavo pounces on Taker, punching Taker before climbing up to the apron and going for a diving crossbody. Taker catches him, however, and rams him into the barricade. Taker tells the referees to open the casket as he throws Chavo in the ring, only for Chavo to hit a DDT as Taker climbs through the ropes.
Chavo punches and stomps Taker before calling over Big Show. Taker sits up, but Chavo quickly kicks him back down. Chavo leaves the ring and grabs a chair. Chavo gets back in the ring and tries to hit Taker, but Taker counters with a back body drop. Taker whips Chavo into the corner, quickly following up with a corner avalanche before hitting Snake Eyes. Taker follows up with a big boot before calling for the casket to be opened. Taker carries Chavo over, only for Big Show to slam the lid down before he puts Chavo in. With Taker distracted, Chavo grabs the chair and hits Taker in the back of the leg.
Chavo goes for another chair shot, but Taker grabs him by the throat and Chokeslams him. Immediately, Big Show runs in and attacks Taker, eventually headbutting him to the ground. Taker fights back, and the two trade punches before Big Show floors him again with another headbutt. Big Show goes for a clothesline, but Taker ducks and sends him out of the ring and onto the casket. Big Show freaks out and gets off the casket immediately. Taker taunts Big Show before hitting the Tombstone Piledriver on Chavo. Taker rolls Chavo into the casket before slamming the lid shut for the win.

The Verdict

    I got some bad matches from one of the WWE's UK PPV's which was infamous for the Plane Ride from Hell incident : Insurrextion 2002

    Hardy Boyz vs Brock Lesnar/Shawn Stasiak
    Spike Dudley vs William Regal
    Stone Cold vs Big Show

    Here’s a bad Survivor Series match from 1991 that’s also known for being the first one to have the face team win a clean sweep, multiple substitutions prior to the PPV and bad gimmicks galore.

    Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Sgt. Slaughter, “El Matador” Tito Santana and Kerry Von Erich vs. Colonel Mustafa, The Berzerker, Skinner and Hercules. No wonder Ricky Steamboat departed the company in order to make his dignity intact. I don’t think he’s anywhere on the list, not even in a battle royal? I’m I right?

      BTW, I’ve always wondered out of curiosity, did you ever attend any of the matches on this list in person? I had the misfortune of watching Kaitlyn vs Maxine and The Great Khali vs Kane match at Breaking Point.

      I have! I was at TLC 2014 where the Big Show vs Erick Rowan Stairs match happened (the Kane vs Ryback Chairs match is also on the list for the future.)

    Here's a few bad matches from Vengeance 2003 which featured a match between Jamie Noble and Billy Gunn, a catfight between Sable and Stephanie Mcmahon and the APA Invitational Bar Room Brawl

    Oh good lord! If someone hasn't requested this already, let me be the first! Markyd's Hawk YT channel led me to this match which was aired on WCW Thunder on May 3, 2000. The entire episode was bad enough, as the matches were featured under "New York Rules" even though it took place in Memphis. But the main event battle royal currently ranks as the 9th lowest score on Cagematch at 0.30 as of this post. Over 40 participants amongst the New Blood and The Millionaires Club with half of them starting off and more people walking down at random times including Bret Hart and Randy Savage (final appearance with WCW) and the production crew misses so many eliminations it would make Kevin Dunn look good at his job. Huge candidate to make it to the bottom 300 IMO.

      I actually have the entire New York Rules episode of Thunder on the list. I'd only gotten a request for the Ric Flair/Billy Kidman match but once I looked up "New York Rules", a I knew I had to do the entire episode. I've heard a ton about that battle royal (haven't actually seen it yet) and everything I've heard about it makes me think it could definitely land at the bottom of the list like you said.     I got a match where Christy Hemme instead of fighting a Big Fat Oily Guy she fights an experienced wrestler in Victoria in a bad match on an otherwise great PPV in Vengeance 2005.

Worst in the World: D-Generation X vs Brothers of Destruction-Crown Jewel

This match didn't need to happen. After Triple H and the Undertaker had one of the most brutally bad matches of 2018 at Super Show-Down not even a month earlier, nobody wanted to see them try to wrestle again. Also, nobody wanted to see Shawn Michaels come out of retirement after his fantastic sendoff in 2010, especially for a match like this. But here we are, Triple H & Shawn Michaels facing The Undertaker & Kane in 2018. The combined ages of these four at the time is 206. That's a number you'd expect to see from a match at Heroes of Wrestling. And anyone can come up with their own reason as to why this match is happening, but that would just be ignoring the actual reason.
