Worst in the World: The Boogeyman vs Booker T & Sharmell-WrestleMania 22

(NOTE: Just a reminder, this October I'm going to be going to a weekly schedule. With that out of the way, I hope you enjoy this week's Worst in the World!)
Considering how brief his time in the company was and how silly his gimmick was, there was a time when it seemed WWE was really high on The Boogeyman. So much so that The Boogeyman was not just feuding with upper midcard wrestlers, and not only was he beating them, but he was actually dominating them. This starts with his first real feud with JBL, not even a year removed from a near-300-day reign as the WWE Champion. The Boogeyman would defeat him at the 2002 Royal Rumble in under two minutes. You would be hard-pressed to find another Ruthless Aggression midcarder who got booked that strong out the gate, and none with a gimmick as weird as The Boogeyman. Following his defeat of JBL, The Boogeyman would move on to his next feud, and the feud to kick off a Halloween-themed month for the Worst in the World, as he takes on Booker T.
The feud was largely just The Boogeyman scaring Booker and his wife Queen Sharmell. This led to a match between the two being set for Saturday Night's Main Event XXXII (during the very brief revival of the event in the mid-2000s.) However, Booker would fake a knee injury, causing the match to be canceled. That led to this match two weeks later at WrestleMania 22, where The Boogeyman would not only take on Booker, but also Sharmell in an Intergender Handicap match. The general consensus with The Boogeyman was that he was essentially all style and no substance, as his gimmick & physical charisma didn't really make up for the fact that he just wasn't that good in the ring. This match was no different, earning a show-low negative quarter-star rating from Dave Meltzer. Let's take a look at The Boogeyman's one and only WrestleMania match.
Booker T & Sharmell are out first, walking down the ramp while clearly scared. They're so scared, in fact, that Booker's flame pyro startles both of them. Booker checks under the ring before he & Sharmell enter the ring. The Boogeyman is out next, and Booker immediately opts to let Sharmell start the match. The bell rings as The Boogeyman & Sharmell circle the ring, only for Booker to attack The Boogeyman from behind. Booker quickly runs back over to the apron, where Sharmell quickly tags him back in. Booker beats down The Boogeyman in the corner before stomping away at him. The Boogeyman fights back with a choke, which prompts Sharmell to get in the ring and distract referee Charles Robinson. This allows Booker to kick The Boogeyman low before following up with a thrust kick. Booker makes the cover, but The Boogeyman kicks out.
Booker stays on the offensive, choking The Boogeyman against the ropes until Charles Robinson forces a break. The Boogeyman gets to his feet as Booker lays into him with punches, which do little damage. Booker goes for a kick, but The Boogeyman catches it. The Boogeyman tries to follow up with a clothesline, but Booker ducks it and hits the Book End. Booker makes the cover, but The Boogeyman kicks out. The Boogeyman fires up, trading blows with Booker before knocking him down with a double palm strike. The Boogeyman hits a second double-palm strike before going for a big boot. Booker ducks it, however, and kicks The Boogeyman in the gut, setting him up for the Scissor Kick. The Boogeyman avoids it, however, and knocks Booker down with a forearm.
The Boogeyman tosses Booker through the ropes and into the post before reaching into his pocket and pulling out a handful of worms. The Boogeyman puts the worms in his mouth as Sharmell runs into the ring with the staff The Boogeyman comes to the ring with. Sharmell goes to hit the Boogeyman with it, only for The Boogeyman to turn around just in time. With Sharmell frozen in fear, The Boogeyman grabs her and forcefully kisses her with a mouthful of worms. Sharmell flees the ring in disgust just as Booker charges at The Boogeyman in the corner. The Boogeyman dodges, however, causing Booker to crash into the corner. The Boogeyman quickly follows up with a falling chokebomb for the three and the win.

The Verdict

It's a pretty bland, uneventful match. There are a handful of actual moves and even fewer actual spots. There's nothing really that badly botched so it's not horrible, but it's definitely unremarkable.

  2. I got a couple of matches from Wrestlemania 13 which saw the worst version of The Rock vs the worst version of Rikishi and a tag team title match with four talented wrestlers that ended with a cop out finish!

    Rocky Mavia vs The Sultan

    1. I don't think I'll be able to cover the Moolah/Debbie Combs match since it was a house show (I've looked and haven't been able to find footage.) I think that might've actually been on the original list I made back when I first started this series (there were a ton of matches with negative star ratings from Meltzer that were at untelevised house shows.)
As for the other ones, I think the AJ/Cameron match has already been requested, but those others are brand new I believe. I'll add them to the list. Thanks for the suggestions!

Worst in the World: The Gimmick Battle Royal-WrestleMania X-Seven

(Special thanks to Frost for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) WrestleMania X-Seven. Heavily considered the not just the best WrestleMania, but the greatest wrestling show of all time, WrestleMania X-Seven took place during the hottest period in the WWF's history, and features just about every one of the hottest acts in wrestling at the time. An undercard featuring the likes of Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, William Regal, Kane, and the Big Show. One of the biggest female stars in the history of wrestling in Chyna. A killer TLC match between the Dudley Boyz, the Hardy Boyz, and Edge & Christian. A wild brawl between The Undertaker and Triple H. A massive main event between Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock. Hell, even the father vs son Street Fight between Vince & Shane McMahon. It's a star-studded affair. However, there's one match that sticks out like

Worst in the World: The Last Rites Match-TNA Destination X 2007

(Special thanks to an anonymous user for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) An often discussed aspect of professional wrestling is the backstage politicking of Hulk Hogan. Throughout his career as a major attraction in wrestling, Hogan's philosophy has always been to protect Hulk Hogan...OK, sometimes he'd help Ed Leslie, but most of the time it was to protect Hulk Hogan. Because of that philosophy and Hogan's influence as a top guy, there have been multiple instances where a company's booking and other wrestlers have suffered as a result. Would having Mr. Perfect win the 1990 Royal Rumble made sense and could have elevated a rising star and potentially created a new main event player? Yes, but that would require Hogan to not win, and that doesn't work for Hogan, so he wins the Rumble even though he doesn't need elevating. Would booking Randy Orton to beat Hogan at SummerSlam 20

Worst in the World: D-Generation X vs Brothers of Destruction-Crown Jewel

This match didn't need to happen. After Triple H and the Undertaker had one of the most brutally bad matches of 2018 at Super Show-Down not even a month earlier, nobody wanted to see them try to wrestle again. Also, nobody wanted to see Shawn Michaels come out of retirement after his fantastic sendoff in 2010, especially for a match like this. But here we are, Triple H & Shawn Michaels facing The Undertaker & Kane in 2018. The combined ages of these four at the time is 206. That's a number you'd expect to see from a match at Heroes of Wrestling. And anyone can come up with their own reason as to why this match is happening, but that would just be ignoring the actual reason. For those of you who don't know, Crown Jewel was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. That might not seem like important information, but you can't really discuss this match without mentioning it. Despite the numerous reasons that running shows in Saudi Arabia is morally wrong (their abuse

Worst in the World: What is the Worst Wrestling Match of All Time?

Note: This series is based off a YouTube series " The Search for the Worst " by I Hate Everything, where he reviews every movie on IMDB's Bottom 100. It's a great, funny series and I'd recommend checking it out. Have you ever just thought to yourself "What is the worst match of all time?"? I don't mean something like a boring John Cena-Randy Orton match, I mean a match where the wrestlers have zero chemistry, little wrestling ability, or literally no idea what they are actually doing. I've thought about this for a while, and I've decided to finally figure it out. So I'm going to watch any match that is: a) A winner of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Award for the Worst Worked Match of the Year. or:  b) Listed on the 100 worst rated wrestling matches of all time on the Internet Wrestling Database .   (Note: Some matches appear on awards that aren't on the list.) There are 115 (EDIT: Now 99)  matches on here. I pu

Combining high-flying, death-defying wrestling with heavily stylized, cinematic segments that more closely resembled an AMC show than what you'd see on Monday Night Raw, Lucha Underground was a hit. Along with just being a unique, enjoyable wrestling experience, the show also provided a launching pad for several of the wrestlers, whether they be American wrestlers getting their biggest exposure to date in Ricochet (Prince Puma) and Jeff Cobb (Matanza Cueto), ex-WWE superstar John Morrison finding new life as Johnny Mundo, or luchadors like Pentagon Jr. and Fenix branching out into the United States. The latter is the case for Sexy Star. Debuting in 2006, Sexy Star would spend the first eight years of her career wrestl
