Welp...Rick Rude is back. He couldn't even stay away for one entry. This time, he goes up against Masahiro Chono, who is defending the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. And to top it off, this match features both Harley Race and Kensuke Sasaki as special guest referees, and features Madusa in Rude's corner. I don't know about you, but this seems to have "bullsh*t" written all over it. There's not much more to say, so let's get into this.
The two lock up to start the match, with Rude forcing Chono into the corner and breaking the hold. They repeat the spot before Rude starts clubbing away on Chono, which goes on for a while before Chono hits a hip toss. Rude slaps on a headlock, which he holds for a while until Chono hits a side suplex. The two exchange hammer locks, followed by a face lock by Chono and Rude going back to clubbing away on Chono. This might not sound too bad, but this is five minutes into the match and this is all I've got to write about. Nothing is happening.
So Rude continues to beat down Chono and lock in rest holds headlocks until Chono locks in another hammer lock, followed by a pretty unique submission. Chono switches to kicking Rude in the back until Rude bails out of the ring. Chono suplexes Rude back into the ring and continues to beat him down, followed by locking in a Boston crab. Rude makes it to the ropes, which allows Chono to lift him off the ground and back down by his legs. 10 minutes in now, and I've only got two paragraphs. This isn't even fun to write. NOTHING IS HAPPENING.
Chono locks in a poor camel clutch...followed by another one. Rude is able to fight back with more strikes, as Jim Ross quips that Rude is trying to slow down Chono. JR, this match would have to literally stop to go any slower. Rude blocks a sunset flip and hits a swinging neckbreaker for a two and goes back to the rest hold headlock. Rude holds this one on FOREVER before Chono starts to fight back as the crowd chants "BORING". Can you blame them? It's been 15 minutes and there's been nothing even remotely enjoyable about this match. NOTHING IS HAPPENING!
Rude is able to block the STF by Chono, who keeps the leg hooked for the STF so it's basically a rest hold. Chono follows in Rude's footsteps and holds this move FOREVER before letting go and stats battering Rude. Rude takes advantage by raking the eyes and hits a piledriver, but Chono gets his foot on the ropes to break the pin. In what looked like a miscommunication, Chono barely moves out of the way of Rude's top rope punch, so Rude punches him again, hits a snapmare, and locks in ANOTHER HEADLOCK. This is getting ridiculous.
Chono fights out of the headlock...only to get put right into a sleeper hold. Rude holds this on FOREVER as the crowd has completely lost interest, instead paying attention to what is presumably someone getting kicked out to the left of the screen:
We hit the 20 MINUTE MARK as Rude goes to the top rope and (surprisingly) hit a missile dropkick. Chono, despite not even coming close to getting hit, sells it and gets right up. How do you oversell AND no sell in the span of 10 seconds? That's some next level sh*t right there. Chono accidentally boots Harley Race out of the ring. Sasaki goes over to help him, but Chono whips Rude over the turn buckle and takes them both out. Rude counters a apron suplex and hits the Rude Awakening (after Chono awkwardly fumbles to get in place). With no ref, Rude goes for a top rope knee drop, which allows Chono to lock in the STF. Sasaki calls for the bell, and claims Chono won. However, Race makes the decision that Rude wins by disqualification because Chono threw him other the top rope. So after 20 GOD DAMN MINUTES...WE GET A F*CK FINISH! F*CK RIGHT OFF!
The Verdict
I've never been more bored watching wrestling. There was zero heat for this match, it went on far too long, and the fact that it went to a bullsh*t finish annoys me.
Masahiro Chono had a broken neck during this match btw
