Hey look, WCW trying to recapture the magic of one of WWE's greatest rivalries...again. Yes, Hogan-Savage wasn't WCW's first attempt to make a legendary WWE feud one of their own. One year earlier, they tried to do the same thing with Hulk Hogan and Roddy Piper...12 years after they feuded in WWE. The two ended up main eventing Starrcade 1996, where Piper beat Hogan for the first time by knockout to NOT win Hogan's WCW World Heavyweight Championship because "reasons", so it was only fitting the two faced off one more time in the main event of SuperBrawl 1997 with Hogan's belt on the line. Let's see why this match won Worst Match of the Year in 1997.
Immediately as the bell sounds, Hogan tries to walk out of the match before he even gets in the ring. How can the match start if both men aren't in the ring? Whatever, this is WCW for you. Hogan teases getting in the ring then tries to walk out again, but Piper catches him in the entrance way. Piper gets Hogan in the ring and starts laying it in, ending with a low blow right in the view of the referee. The ref actually reacts to seeing Hogan getting hit in the balls. WHY IS THAT NOT A DQ! ARE THERE EVEN DQ'S IN WCW?! Is it just like ECW...only worse?
Piper starts choking Hogan with his t-shirt and biting him as Hogan tries to get away, but Piper keeps bringing him back to the ring. Piper hits a super safe chair shot on Hogan on gets him back in the ring, but Hogan low blows him behind the ref's back this time (good job, Hogan), which Piper COMPLETELY NO SELLS and goes back to beating down Hogan. Some nWo members try to get involved as Tony Schiavone quips that Hogan is trying to get himself disqualified. Yeah, good luck with that, have you seen how hard it is too get DQ'd in WCW? You'd have to literally run someone with a car to even get a warning from the ref.
Piper keeps bringing it to Hogan as he does more blatant cheating as they brawl to the outside for the second time this match. Piper no sells some more and continues to beat up Hogan at ringside. They go back in the ring as Piper makes Hogan straddle the top rope. This brings out Sting and Randy Savage and Savage walks down the entrance ramp. Sting just kind of...stands there. Kind of makes you wonder why he came out, doesn't it.
Piper and Hogan brawl in the ring as Hogan finally manages to gain control. Sting walks to the back (again, why'd he come out in the first place?) as Hogan and Piper brawl outside for the third time. Hogan rams Piper into the ring post and rolls him back in the ring. Hogan locks in a bear hug, which he holds forever before he starts choking Piper. Piper fights out and runs wild, only to be stopped with another low blow. Piper reverses a body slam and locks in the sleeper hold. Hogan goes down as the ref raises his hand three times, and it falls three times! New WCW World Heavyweight Champion Roddy Piper!...
Of course not, how could WCW have anything resembling a finish that isn't confusing? Savage pulls Hogan's feet under the ropes (SWERVE!) while the ref's back is turned and Piper is celebrating. Not even kidding, that's how they tried to pull this off. Despite the referee calling for the bell and CLEARLY seeing Hogan's feet weren't under the ropes:
The ref still restarts the match. Savage slips Hogan some brass knuckles and Hogan knocks Piper out, getting the three and the win to retain his title. Post match, Savage and Hogan beat down Piper as SuperBrawl 1997 comes to a close. Seriously, the last five minutes of this pay-per-view are an nWo beat down.

The Verdict
All this match was was Piper beating down Hogan for ten minutes, only for Hogan to win via bullsh*t. Almost no offense outside of punches and blatant cheating, which the referee allows because "reasons". Even worse, this was the main event for the world title. This is how WCW treated their world title.
