If there's anyone who got shafted harder during the Attitude Era than everyone else, it was probably Ivory. Despite being an actual trained wrestler with over a decade of wrestling experience under her belt before joining the WWF, she was pushed aside for the women like Sable and Miss Kitty because they were hot. She may have been a three time Women's Champion, but each of those reigns was treated as a joke and ended as a joke, with her competing in bogus hardcore matches, getting squashed at WrestleMania, and even taking clean pinfall loses to a 76-year old Fabulous Moolah, all while champion. Here, she defends her Women's Championship against Tori at SummerSlam 1999. Both are at least average workers, how could this go bad?
Tori sprints to the ring and match immediately starts, with Tori hitting a powerslam and Ivory rolling out of the ring. Ivory pulls Tori out of the ring under the bottom rope and does the most overly-emphatic eye rack ever before pushing Tori into the ring post. They go back in the ring where Tori gains momentum, hitting a few kicks and two suplexes. Ivory takes control again by pulling Tori's hair and hitting a bulldog. So far, nothing too bad.
Ivory gets the heat with a few snapmares and chokes Tori with the ropes before busting out a GIANT SWING! The crowd pops for the first time in the match for the swing, but Ivory only holds it for two swings before stopping and pinning. Ivory does a pretty weak chop (a lot of her offense looked a little weak) before Tori does a pretty bad spear. Tori manages to hit a alley-oop facebuster, but doesn't get a lot of height on the throw and Ivory sort of lands on her feet before falling forward.
After a sloppy looking sunset flip pin, Ivory sits down on Tori on a second attempt and gets the pin. And not in a the way where she hooks Tori's legs. She sits down and moves around to get the pin. The ending looked really abrupt, and it almost looked they messed up the finish. After the match, Ivory tries to strip Tori, but Luna Vachon runs down to make the save and stops her, which the crowd boos.
The Verdict
Not even close to one of the worst matches ever. Some of the spots looked stunted and wonky, and the ending looked off a bit, but definitely not among the worst matches ever. Then again, this might not seem that bad to me just because the last women's match I saw for this series was the literal WORST MATCH EVER. But still, not that bad.
