WWE does a lot of things wrong, there's really no arguing that. Whether it be not capitalizing on a superstars momentum or having the wrong person win a feud, WWE can't get it right every single time. However, there are several mistakes that WWE makes that, despite being heavily criticized by fans and writers, they keep making over and over again. There's probably a lot more than five, but these are the one's that annoy me the most. Here are 5 things WWE needs to stop doing.
1. Letting Stephanie McMahon Belittle the Wrestlers
I've talked to death about why I don't like Stephanie McMahon to the point where talking about her again would be like beating a dead horse with a dead horse, but I'm going to do it any way. If there's anything Stephanie McMahon loves doing more than anything it's slapping and running down her wrestlers (aka the people who make her money) live on TV. It doesn't matter who it is; John Cena, Daniel Bryan, Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose, Kevin Owens, New Day, Charlotte, they've all felt the wrath of Stephanie in some way. The biggest problem with this is that she never faces any repercussions for slapping or belittling the wrestlers. Obviously the male wrestlers can't do anything, but even the women have to lay down and take it. Stephanie not only went over Brie Bella at SummerSlam, she straight up held her own against the actual wrestler. That shouldn't happen. All Stephanie does is make her wrestlers look like geeks who get talked down and take it.
2. 50/50 Booking
Tell me if you've heard this one before; two guys have a match where one guy comes out victorious, only to do the job to the same guy a week later. That ladies and gentlemen, is "50/50 Booking". 50/50 Booking refers to when wresters constantly trade victories over and over again. The big problem with this, obviously, is that nobody goes over because they are constantly tarding wins with someone else, so they both just break even on win-losses. Yeah, because nothing screams "superstar" like a .500 win percentage. Remember when Tyler Breeze beat Dolph Ziggler at Survivor Series, only to take the pin 8 days later. Who did that help? No one. 50/50 Booking literally helps no one.
3. Champions Losing Clean on TV
The Champion is supposed to be the best in the division and the hardest to beat. That being said, why do the champions take so many clean loses on TV. I can understand the champion taking a loss when they're facing another champion, but not when they're facing someone they're building up as a contender to the title, and especially someone they aren't building up as a contender. Remember when Rey Mysterio was World Heavyweight Champion and got beat by guys like Mark Henry and Great Khali clean. Who did that help? And don't even get me started about Intercontinental Champion Wade Barrett! Having the champion take clean losses on TV does nothing but make the champion look weak, and going back to what I said about 50/50 booking, it makes everyone look bad. Why should I care if someone can pin the champion in a non-title match, but chokes when the belt is on the line?
4. Calling Up People From NXT With No Real Plans
Apollo Crews, Bo Dallas, Baron Corbin, Tyler Breeze, Neville, The Ascension. What do all of these wrestlers have in common? They all got called up to the main roster, and have done absoultely nothing. Granted, Crews & Corbin are still relatively new to the main roster, but they've still been booked terribly, because they got called up with nothing booked for them by the writers. Corbin just got out of three month feud with Dolph Ziggler that went on for far too long, and Crews didn't even have a proper feud until two months into his main roster run. I'm pretty sure Bo Dallas & The Ascension never even had proper feuds at all. When they don't have anything ready for the wrestlers that get called up, it seriously hurts the wrestler's standing with the fans. Guys like Crews, Neville, and Breeze are incredible wrestlers, but since they just get continuously booked in pointless matches with no meaning, they don't get over. It's just a massive waste of talent.
5. Ignoring/Censoring the Fans
This is the big one. The fans are the ones who pay to go to your shows, buy your merchandise, and watch your show on TV. The goal should be to keep them happy. This isn't just about things like Roman Reigns being the face WWE Champion despite getting booed out of the building, it's about things like pushing people that have been in WWE for years that get no heat whatsoever, and not using people the fans love. Stop pushing people like Alberto Del Rio who come out to mostly passive crowds. Start using guys like Dolph Ziggler and Zack Ryder who the fans want to see and like organically. Stop taking away people's signs because they're anti-Roman Reigns or because "there's too many signs already" for somebody. Stop trying to force people to like Roman Reigns and turn him heel, make him the bad guy everyone already treats him as. WWE has the benefit of getting instant feedback for what they put on TV. They should use it.
