My Thoughts on NXT (7/6/16): Air Gable

  • Bayley vs Alexa Bliss-The match kicks off getting some offense in until Alexa hits a rope hung slingshot. Alexa gets the heat, working over Bayley until Bayley just picks her up and hits a nasty looking Buckle Bomb. Bayley runs wild with a bunch of corner moves until Bliss counters one with a sunset flip. Bayley sits down on the pin attempt, but Alexa kicks out and delivers a straight punch to Bayley before we go to commercial. We come back to Alexa working over the arm of Bayley. Alexa tries to go for the slingshot again, but Bayley is able to knock Alexa into the ropes. Alexa does her awesome choke spot/STO followed by Insult to Injury, which is the double knees to the gut followed by the handspring double knees. Alexa goes to the top rope for Twisted Bliss, but Bayley catches her up there. Bayley tries for the Bayley-to-Belly, but Alexa punches her down and hits a sunset flip powerbomb for a two count. The two exchange roll ups until Bayley hits a belly-to-back suplex for a two count. Bayley goes to the second rope, but Alexa yanks her down and makes her hit her head on the turnbuckle. Alexa goes for a Vader Bomb, but Bayley blocks it with her knees and hits the Bayley-to-Belly for the win. Good match, nice back-and-forth match up. Post match, Bayley cuts a promo, saying it's been a long road since Takeover: Dallas, and that Nia Jax took the opportunity that was her's at Takeover: The End. Outcomes Nia Jax, and the two talk off mic, where they agree to one more match.
  • Backstage, Cathy Kelley interviews The Revival. They say they aren't worried about losing their titles to American Alpha tonight.
  • Blake & Murphy vs The Hype Bros-I'm so confused. They broke up like two months ago, Murphy had a singles match, then they weren't broken up, then they broke up again, and ow they're teaming up again. Jesus, is this Groundhog Day? Match starts with a shoulder tackle by Rawley to Blake, which leads to Murphy tagging in and then arguing. Rawley tries to get their attention back to the match, but they both yell at him to shut up. This is the end of the match, as outcomes RHYNO! He hits a pretty bad Gore on Rawley before taking out Blake in the corner and gives a match better Gore to Ryder. Murphy, the only smart one, ran up the ramp to avoid getting murked.
  • Backstage, Andrea DeMarco interviews American Alpha. They say they're going to wrestle "their match" and win the NXT Tag Team Championships back.
  • In the parking lot, a camera guy asks why Rhyno is back in NXT. No response.
  • The Revival (c) vs American Alpha in a 2-out-of-3 Falls match for the NXT Tag Team Championships-Early prediction: Straight fire. Gable & Wilder lock up to start, with Wilder locking in a wrist lock. Gable escapes and transitions around Wilder before locking in a ankle lock, but Dawson pulls Wilder to safety. Dawson & Jordan tag in and exchange holds a lot, earning a ovation from the crowd. Dawson goes after Gable, who tries to go after him but the ref stops him. This allows Wilder to blindside Jordan and get him in the Revival 's corner. That's what I love about the Revival, they know how to play the old school heel team so well. The Revival goes for a double arm drag, but Jordan lands on his feet and hits a double clothesline. Gable gets in the ring and we get tandem dropkicks before the commercial break. We come back to the Revival getting the heat on Jordan, targeting the left knee, using dragon screws and ramming his knee into the ring post. As Jordan & Dawson continuously block suplexes by the other, Gable tags in and saves Jordan from getting suplexed. Gable runs wild, hitting atomic drops and a huge exploder suplex. Gable starts running the ropes, but Wilder pulls the ropes down, causing Gable to take a nasty fall before another commercial break. We come back to the Revival working over Gable until Gable dodges a charging Wilder, sending him through the ropes. Dawson barely stops Gable from making the tag, and the Revival go back to work. Gable manages to counter a Shatter Machine attempt with a sunset flip pin on Dawson, that is immediately broken up by Wilder. Wilder stops Gable from making a tag and brings him back to the Revival's corner. Dawson appears to have hurt his hip as he struggle to make the cover after an assisted leg drop. Gable flips out of an assisted suplex and pushes Dawson into Wilder, allowing him to make the hot tag to Jordan. IT'S JASON JORDAN HOT TAG TIME BITCHES! Jordan runs wild and tosses the Revival around before spearing Wilder for a two count. Wilder hits a top rope crossbody, but Jordan rolls through and locks in an ankle lock. Dawson tries to pull him out again, but Gable runs over and puts Dawson in an ankle lock on the outside of the ring. Wilder taps out in the ring for the first fall. Dawson & Jordan exchange roll ups before Dawson hits a big DDT for a two count. Wilder pulls Gable to the ground as Dawson locks in an inverted Figure 4 and gets the submission, tying it up at one a piece. Dawson goes for the inverted Figure 4 again, but Jordan counters with a cradle. Gable tags in and tries to roll up Dawson three times to no avail. Jordan makes the tag and spears Dawson in the corner. American Alpha goes for Grand Amplitude, but Wilder makes the save. The Revival goes for the Shatter Machine, but Gable makes the save. Jordan locks in the ankle lock again, but Dawson rolls out of it. Dawson locks in the inverted Figure 4 again, but Gable breaks it up with a diving headbutt from his own corner. It was incredible. Wilder & Gable fight to the outside as a loud NXT chant breaks out. Gable makes the tag, but Dawson knees him in the face. They go on the apron where Gable teases a German Suplex to the outside. Wilder holds Dawson down saving him from certain death, and the Revival hits the Shatter Machine on the apron. I'm not really sure how that would hurt Gable anymore then it normally would. In fact, I'm pretty sure that would hurt Wilder worse than anything, since he's landing back first on the hardest part of the ring. I digress, as Dawson rolls Gable in the ring and gets the win. Awesome match. I personally enjoyed Dallas more, but this was still great too.
And that's about it. Overall, great show. The two actual matches were both good, and the return of Rhyno was cool.

Worst in the World: The Last Rites Match-TNA Destination X 2007

(Special thanks to an anonymous user for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) An often discussed aspect of professional wrestling is the backstage politicking of Hulk Hogan. Throughout his career as a major attraction in wrestling, Hogan's philosophy has always been to protect Hulk Hogan...OK, sometimes he'd help Ed Leslie, but most of the time it was to protect Hulk Hogan. Because of that philosophy and Hogan's influence as a top guy, there have been multiple instances where a company's booking and other wrestlers have suffered as a result. Would having Mr. Perfect win the 1990 Royal Rumble made sense and could have elevated a rising star and potentially created a new main event player? Yes, but that would require Hogan to not win, and that doesn't work for Hogan, so he wins the Rumble even though he doesn't need elevating. Would booking Randy Orton to beat Hogan at SummerSlam 20

Worst in the World: The Gimmick Battle Royal-WrestleMania X-Seven

(Special thanks to Frost for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) WrestleMania X-Seven. Heavily considered the not just the best WrestleMania, but the greatest wrestling show of all time, WrestleMania X-Seven took place during the hottest period in the WWF's history, and features just about every one of the hottest acts in wrestling at the time. An undercard featuring the likes of Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, William Regal, Kane, and the Big Show. One of the biggest female stars in the history of wrestling in Chyna. A killer TLC match between the Dudley Boyz, the Hardy Boyz, and Edge & Christian. A wild brawl between The Undertaker and Triple H. A massive main event between Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock. Hell, even the father vs son Street Fight between Vince & Shane McMahon. It's a star-studded affair. However, there's one match that sticks out like

Worst in the World: D-Generation X vs Brothers of Destruction-Crown Jewel

This match didn't need to happen. After Triple H and the Undertaker had one of the most brutally bad matches of 2018 at Super Show-Down not even a month earlier, nobody wanted to see them try to wrestle again. Also, nobody wanted to see Shawn Michaels come out of retirement after his fantastic sendoff in 2010, especially for a match like this. But here we are, Triple H & Shawn Michaels facing The Undertaker & Kane in 2018. The combined ages of these four at the time is 206. That's a number you'd expect to see from a match at Heroes of Wrestling. And anyone can come up with their own reason as to why this match is happening, but that would just be ignoring the actual reason. For those of you who don't know, Crown Jewel was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. That might not seem like important information, but you can't really discuss this match without mentioning it. Despite the numerous reasons that running shows in Saudi Arabia is morally wrong (their abuse

Worst in the World: Nia Jax's Worst Matches

Click the link here to vote in the poll and help decide the next edition of the Worst in the World. Nia Jax's first run with the WWE can really only be described as hard to watch. Sure, she had a few stand-out matches, most notably (and surprisingly) her match with Ronda Rousey at Money in the Bank, and an underrated gem with Bayley at NXT TakeOver: London, but those were always outshined by her most infamous matches and moments. She's since returned to WWE and, for the most part, seems to have improved a bit, but the reputation she got from her initial run is gonna be hard to shake off. This week, I'll be looking at some of Jax's worst matches. These include just flat-out bad matches, and matches that have become infamous examples of her reckless in-ring work. Match #1: vs Charlotte Flair-April 10th, 2017 Raw The first match we'll be looking at is from the April 10, 2017 episode of Monday Night Raw, when Nia took on Charlotte Flair. The two had been on the losing e

Worst in the World: Carmella vs Asuka: How to Destroy an Aura

Throughout the entire history of the WWE, we've never seen, and probably will never see again, a woman booked as strong as Asuka was to start her run. Coming into WWE in 2015 with over a decade of experience wrestling in her native Japan as Kana, Asuka was immediately treated like a huge deal. Hell, even from the first time we saw her on a WWE broadcast, she was seated in the crowd of NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn next to two Hall of Famers in Ric Flair & Sgt. Slaughter. Officially debuting in October 2015, Asuka would go her entire NXT career, nearly two full years, without being pinned or submitted. She was booked so strong, in fact, that instead of dropping the NXT Women's Championship in what would be her last match in NXT at the time to Ember Moon (even after sustaining an injury), an act that is almost always the case for champions leaving NXT for the main roster, Asuka retained and later vacated the title, keeping her streak intact. For a company that is more than willing t
