My Thoughts on RAW (7/4/16): American Made

  • Before RAW, we get a 4th of July party featuring R-Truth & Goldust as the live music performance. Boo. They are stopped by the Vaudevillians, who take the stage for Aiden English to perform a musical rendition of the Declaration of the Independence. That's so much better than Truth rapping. Someone throws potato salad at English, and a big food fight happens. The best part is Kevin Owens hiding under the table to avoid getting hit. The food fight ends with Kane & Big Show double chokeslamming Heath Slater threw a table. After everyone leaves, Owens hops up and says something like this would never happen on Canada Day. He then takes a pie to the face and flips out. There were some good funny parts, but a lot was just "meh."
  • Rusev vs Titus O'Neil for the United States Championship-Before the match, Rusev says he wants to change the 4th of July to "Rusev Day". Little does he know there already is a "Rusev Day": February 22; the day he beat John Cena. Mark your calendars, everyone! The match starts during the commercial break. Titus does a very impressive hop over Rusev and hits a body slam, followed by tossing Rusev into the corner. Rusev then manages to grab Titus from behind and basically back suplex Titus over the ropes to the outside. Rusev whips Titus into the ropes and almost gets the countout win. Rusev hits a big dropkick for a one count. Titus fights back with knee strikes before the two exchange clubbing blows. Titus runs wild after a shoulder tackle, hitting a Ho Train and a scoop slam before hitting the Clash of the Titus for a two count. Rusev hits a big roundhouse kick and locks in the Accolade, winning by submission. The evil foreigner beat the American hero. HAPPY 4TH OF JULY FROM WWE! That's a shame, they could have just given Titus a short run for this feel good moment and Rusev could have won it right back at Battleground.
  • Bo Dallas & Curtis Axel vs Enzo Amore & Big Cass-The Social Outcasts came out dressed as the minutemen. Heath Slater was actually selling the chokeslam from the party by having his arm in a sling. Bo Dallas tries to explain why they're dressed as minutemen, but they are interrupted by Enzo & Cass. Enzo name drops every president and says they'd be insulted by the Outcasts. Cass says he's not going to try top that and calls the Social Outcasts SAWFT! The match starts the same way every Enzo & Cass match starts, with Dallas & Axel beating down Enzo until Enzo dodges an elbow drop from Axel. Cass tags in, runs wild on Bo Dallas, hits the Empire Elbow, big boot, and they hit the Rocket Launcher for the win.
  • Outcomes Charlotte & Dana Brooke. She says everyone around her is jealous of her, and Sasha Banks is the most jealous. She says no one has done more than her this year, and that Sasha is all hype. Outcomes Sasha, who says she's better than Charlotte even if she is champion. She adds that Charlotte has never beaten her, and the only reason Charlotte won at WrestleMania was because of Ric Flair. Charlotte says she's the best because she's champion, and she's the real Legit Boss. Sasha says everything Charlotte has gotten has been handed to her, she's a knock off of her dad, and that her reign as champion is over. Dana & Charlotte attack Sasha, but Sasha fights back and locks in the Bank Statement on Charlotte. Dana pulls Charlotte out of the ring as the segment ends.
  • The Miz vs Dean Ambrose-Pre-match, Miz says he's dedicating his match to Maryse, and says she celebrated Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day. I imagine someone backstage thought that would get a lot of heat because it's Independence Day. It didn't. Match kicks off with an back and forth exchange ending with Ambrose clotheslining Miz out of the ring and hitting a diving out of the ring. Ambrose beats down Miz at ringside until Miz throws him into the timekeeper's area before the commercial break. We come back and Miz locks in the Figure Four. I had forgotten how bad Miz's Figure 4 looked. Ambrose tosses Miz from the ring and runs wild, hitting strikes and clotheslines before going for a superplex. A huge sequence of reversals happens and ends with Ambrose hitting a rebound lariat on Miz, followed by a suicide dive. Back in the ring, Ambrose avoids a Skull Crushing Finale and a big boot before hitting Dirty Deeds for the win. Fine little match, nothing special. After the match, Seth Rollins comes out for his match next, but Ambrose runs down to the ring, only to walk right to the Spanish commentary table. Oddly enough, Ambrose' music interrupts Rollins when he runs down, like if he was coming out for the first time, but he was still there when it started playing.
  • Seth Rollins vs Dolph Ziggler-Ziggler starts with amateur mat wrestling, going for a cradle type pin and getting a two count. Ziggler continues to work over Rollins with mat wrestling before Rollins rolls out of the ring. Rollins takes control when he gets back in the ring until taking a dropkick, and narrowly avoids a superkick. Ziggler goes to the top rope, but takes an enziguri from Rollins and falls to the ground before the commercial break. We come back to Ziggler fighting back, but Rollins stays in control. Rollins goes to the top rope, but Ziggler catches him and hits a top rope facebuster for a two count. Rollins goes for the Buckle Bomb, but Ziggler escapes and runs wild, hitting a Stinger splash and a swinging neckbreaker, followed by an elbow drop for a two count. The two go back and forth before Rollins hits a superkick for a two count. Another fast paced exchange with lots of reversals ends with Ziggler hitting a superkick for a two count. Ziggler hits a jumping DDT, but Rollins holds the ropes and blocks it, allowing him to hit the Pedigree for the win. Good match, above average. After the match, Rollins gets on the announce table and runs down Roman Reigns.Rollins says Reigns should be taken out of the match at Battleground to massive applause. Ambrose also gets up on the table with a microphone and attacks Rollins. The two fight at ringside, ending with Dirty Deeds on the announce table as Ambrose stands tall.
  • We get a Wyatt Family video. Stuff happens. That's it. They invite the New Day to their compound.
  • We get a Baron Corbin vignette because "why not." They get over how tough and violent he is. This probably would've gone over a lot better if he hadn't gone through a lame 3 month feud with the most go nowhere guy WWE had in Dolph Ziggler.
  • Outcomes Vickie Guerrero and I changed the channel. I turned it back on and she was leaving.
  • Backstage, Big Show is giving his team tonight a pep talk with Patriotic music playing in the background. He says it doesn't matter where they're from, and that they're going to go and beat the international team because THEY ARE AMERICANS AND THEY ARE PATRIOTIC AND THEY'RE FROM THE U-S-A AND GOD DAMMIT BIG SHOW ISN'T JUST FROM AMERICA, HE IS AMERICA!!!
  • Backstage, Vickie Guerrero is being ejected by security, but Dolph Ziggler stops them, just to say he's never seen her before.
  • The Vaudevillians vs The Golden Truth-Breezango is sitting in their V.I.P. section , which annoys me because it means the Golden Truth-Breezango feud is still going. Also, I hate Golden Truth...a lot. Truth and Gotch start with an exchange, ending with a kick from Truth to Gotch, Goldust runs wild on English and hits a scoop slam before Gotch breaks up the pin. Golden Truth wins with a assisted powerbomb. I hate everything. The fact that the Vaudevillians are doing jobs to Golden Truth upsets me...alot.
  • More Darren Young-Bob Backlund stuff. Backlund gets mad at him for not having a submission finisher, and grants him the Crossface Chickenwing. These segments better be going somewhere good.
  • Outcomes John Cena. He says the crowd is ready to have fun tonight...two hours into a three hour show. Cena says everyone is either on his side or AJ Styles' side, and that Styles couldn't stand on his own two feet and needed the Club on his side. Cena says he has to watch out for the Club all the time now, and he calls them all out. The Club comes out, and Styles calls him pathetic for whining in the ring. Styles says it was unfair that Cena's face was on the poster for the Tokyo show they wrestled at this weekend, which should have been a homecoming for the Club. Styles says The Club wants to run WWE, and they have to take out Cena to do it. Styles says no one is going to help Cena because most of the WWE superstars relate to The Club, and would like to be in their position. Styles says they have fun beating up Cena, and will do it every day. Line of the night easily goes to Karl Anderson with: (For Christmas) I'm going to wrap presents for my kids with my hot Asian wife, and then I'm going to beat up John Cena!". They go down to beat up Cena, but outcomes Enzo & Cass to make the save. The six brawl, ending with Cass booting Gallows from the ring.
  • F*ck off Primo and Epico.
  • Becky Lynch vs Summer Rae-Match kicks off with an enziguri that misses by a mile by Becky. Summer works over Becky for a while, with a really rough looking suplex in between. And before anyone says it was Summer's fault, Becky jumped way to early before Summer even went for the move. Becky runs wild, hits the Bex-Ploder suplex, dodges a spin kick, and locks in the Dis-Arm-Her for the win. Quite a few botches, looked really bad at times.
  • Backstage, Chris Jericho gives a pep talk to Team International. He wishes them a happy belated-Canada Day. Everyone yells at each other in other languages before Owens yells at them. The heels leave, and the faces say they're going to win the match as friends.
  • Enzo & Cass shill out some Sonic Fast Food. First the wave last week, then this. It's like WWE is trying to make me hate Enzo & Cass.
  • Outcomes The New Day, who make incest jokes about The Wyatt's because "PG." They say they like the Wyatt's, and the Wyatt's appear on screen. Wyatt says some stuff, and that's it. The New Day accepts their invitation, all while Woods looks terrified. Woods warns Kofi & Big E, who says the Wyatt's are a threat, and that the New Day might not be able to survive, before leaving the ring.
  • Team USA: Big Show, Mark Henry, Jack Swagger, Zack Ryder, Apollo Crews, Kane, and The Dudley Boyz vs Team International: Sheamus, Kevin Owens, Chris Jericho, Cesaro, Sami Zayn, Alberto Del Rio, and The Lucha Dragons in a 16-Man Elimination Tag Match-Just in case you forgot they were foreign, they played all the foreigners' countries' national anthems to remind you they were foreign. Did I mention they're foreign. And speaking of foreigners, nice to see Kalisto representing his hometown; the small, Mexican city of CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. Stupid idiots...Owens & Ryder start the match. Ryder gets beat up quickly and tags out to D-Von. Sin Cara tags in and eats a 3D from the Dudleyz, getting eliminated. Bubba Ray then gets eliminated after a Brogue Kick and springboard splash by Kalisto. We come back from commercial and Cesaro eliminates D-Von with a Sharpshooter. In comes Swagger, and he and Cesaro do the "WE THE PEOPLE!" chant. Jericho tags in after a while and takes a belly-to-belly for a two count. Jericho counters a Swagger Bomb and hits a Codebreaker for the elimination. Kane tries to double chokeslam Jericho & Kalisto, but a fight ensues between everyone in the match before we got to commercial break again. We come back with Del Rio & Crews in the ring. Crews dropkicks Del Rio during a jumping nothing and in comes Henry, who eliminates Kalisto with a World's Strongest Slam. Kevin Owens manages to eliminate Henry with an insane Pop Up Powerbomb. Owens ends up throwing Ryder into Sami Zayn, and Owens & Zayn brawl, ending with Owens attacking Zayn and Kane with a chair, getting himself DQ'd. Kane then attacks Owens with the chair, which gets himself disqualified. Kane then chokeslams Zayn, who gets eliminated by Crews after a moonsault. Crews then gets eliminated by Sheamus after a Brogue Kick, making it 4-2, advantage Internationals. The heel foreigners refuse to tag in Cesaro as they beat up Ryder until Cesaro tags himself in. Cesaro & Jericho argue until Cesaro uppercuts all his teammates and starts the Uppercut Train on his teammates. He goes for the Neutrailizer on Ryder, but Ryder reverses it and gets the roll-up pin. Ryder continues to get beat down until reversing a suplex by Sheamus and makes the tag to Big Show. Big Show takes out the foreigners and eliminates Jericho with a knockout punch. He then eliminates Del Rio with a chokeslam, leaving it 2-1 with Big Show & Ryder vs Sheamus. Show chops Sheamus a lot and goes for a chokeslam, but Sheamus reverses it and takes out his knee. Ryder tags in and after Sheamus gets pushed by Show, eliminates Sheamus with a Rough Ryder for the win. Really chaotic match, hard to keep track of, everything went by really fast.
And that's about. Overall, a pretty nothing show. Not much good to talk about.

Worst in the World: The Last Rites Match-TNA Destination X 2007

(Special thanks to an anonymous user for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) An often discussed aspect of professional wrestling is the backstage politicking of Hulk Hogan. Throughout his career as a major attraction in wrestling, Hogan's philosophy has always been to protect Hulk Hogan...OK, sometimes he'd help Ed Leslie, but most of the time it was to protect Hulk Hogan. Because of that philosophy and Hogan's influence as a top guy, there have been multiple instances where a company's booking and other wrestlers have suffered as a result. Would having Mr. Perfect win the 1990 Royal Rumble made sense and could have elevated a rising star and potentially created a new main event player? Yes, but that would require Hogan to not win, and that doesn't work for Hogan, so he wins the Rumble even though he doesn't need elevating. Would booking Randy Orton to beat Hogan at SummerSlam 20

Worst in the World: The Gimmick Battle Royal-WrestleMania X-Seven

(Special thanks to Frost for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) WrestleMania X-Seven. Heavily considered the not just the best WrestleMania, but the greatest wrestling show of all time, WrestleMania X-Seven took place during the hottest period in the WWF's history, and features just about every one of the hottest acts in wrestling at the time. An undercard featuring the likes of Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, William Regal, Kane, and the Big Show. One of the biggest female stars in the history of wrestling in Chyna. A killer TLC match between the Dudley Boyz, the Hardy Boyz, and Edge & Christian. A wild brawl between The Undertaker and Triple H. A massive main event between Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock. Hell, even the father vs son Street Fight between Vince & Shane McMahon. It's a star-studded affair. However, there's one match that sticks out like

Worst in the World: D-Generation X vs Brothers of Destruction-Crown Jewel

This match didn't need to happen. After Triple H and the Undertaker had one of the most brutally bad matches of 2018 at Super Show-Down not even a month earlier, nobody wanted to see them try to wrestle again. Also, nobody wanted to see Shawn Michaels come out of retirement after his fantastic sendoff in 2010, especially for a match like this. But here we are, Triple H & Shawn Michaels facing The Undertaker & Kane in 2018. The combined ages of these four at the time is 206. That's a number you'd expect to see from a match at Heroes of Wrestling. And anyone can come up with their own reason as to why this match is happening, but that would just be ignoring the actual reason. For those of you who don't know, Crown Jewel was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. That might not seem like important information, but you can't really discuss this match without mentioning it. Despite the numerous reasons that running shows in Saudi Arabia is morally wrong (their abuse

Worst in the World: Nia Jax's Worst Matches

Click the link here to vote in the poll and help decide the next edition of the Worst in the World. Nia Jax's first run with the WWE can really only be described as hard to watch. Sure, she had a few stand-out matches, most notably (and surprisingly) her match with Ronda Rousey at Money in the Bank, and an underrated gem with Bayley at NXT TakeOver: London, but those were always outshined by her most infamous matches and moments. She's since returned to WWE and, for the most part, seems to have improved a bit, but the reputation she got from her initial run is gonna be hard to shake off. This week, I'll be looking at some of Jax's worst matches. These include just flat-out bad matches, and matches that have become infamous examples of her reckless in-ring work. Match #1: vs Charlotte Flair-April 10th, 2017 Raw The first match we'll be looking at is from the April 10, 2017 episode of Monday Night Raw, when Nia took on Charlotte Flair. The two had been on the losing e

Worst in the World: Carmella vs Asuka: How to Destroy an Aura

Throughout the entire history of the WWE, we've never seen, and probably will never see again, a woman booked as strong as Asuka was to start her run. Coming into WWE in 2015 with over a decade of experience wrestling in her native Japan as Kana, Asuka was immediately treated like a huge deal. Hell, even from the first time we saw her on a WWE broadcast, she was seated in the crowd of NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn next to two Hall of Famers in Ric Flair & Sgt. Slaughter. Officially debuting in October 2015, Asuka would go her entire NXT career, nearly two full years, without being pinned or submitted. She was booked so strong, in fact, that instead of dropping the NXT Women's Championship in what would be her last match in NXT at the time to Ember Moon (even after sustaining an injury), an act that is almost always the case for champions leaving NXT for the main roster, Asuka retained and later vacated the title, keeping her streak intact. For a company that is more than willing t
