Sometimes I wonder if Dave Meltzer is a little harsh when reviewing wrestling. For example, this match, Konnan vs One Man Gang from SuperBrawl VI, got minus two stars from Meltzer. To put that in perspective, Jeff Hardy vs Sting from Victory Road (the match where Hardy showed up completely out of it) was only a minus one star. This match is by no means negative stars. It's not good by any means, but it is by no means one of the worst matches ever.
Basically, this is a pretty just your average bad wrestling match. One Man Gang is way too out of shape to be in a ring at this point, and his in ring work shows it. Almost all of his offense is punches and slow plodding around the ring while Konnan tries his hardest to get this guy to a good match. Another big problem with the match is how there is almost nothing exciting in the match. Aside from Konnan's pretty nice crossbody to One Man Gang that took them to the outside through the second rope and a superplex off the top rope, nothing cool happens. There's not even anything outrageously bad about this match either, so I there's pretty much nothing to write about. Konnan wins with a cannonball off the top rope, wins, and retains the WCW United States Championship. That's it.
Seriously, why is this match even on this list? It really isn't notably bad. Sure, it's pretty unexciting and one of the people in the match should have stayed out of the ring, but it's still not horrible. There's no horribly botched moves, no terrible selling or strike throwing, nothing. It's a nothing match. That's it
The Verdict
It's not that bad. Which, considering all the other matches on this list, is the greatest match in history. Right now, it's the best match I've seen (and not so bad it's good like the Chamber of Horrors match).
Rankings (Best to Worst)
- Konnan vs One Man Gang-SuperBrawl VI
- The Chamber of Horrors-Halloween Havoc 1991
- Nikita Koloff vs Bobby Eaton-Bunkhouse Stampede
- The Oddities vs Kaientai-SummerSlam 1998
- Hulk Hogan vs Sid Justice-WrestleMania VIII
- Kevin Sullivan vs Dave Sullivan-SuperBrawl V
- Hollywood Hogan vs The Warrior-Halloween Havoc 1998
So...what's next on the list...
You clearly didn't watch it properly then. There are plenty of botched and mistimed moves. Awful from both wrestlers.
