Well, another Royal Rumble has passed, and it didn't end with the crowd booing the winner into oblivion! Yes! Chalk one up for WWE Creative. Anyway, this was definitely the best Royal Rumble in years (judging by the last few Royal Rumbles, that sounds like a backhanded compliment, but it's not) and we got a new champion in Triple H. Here's what I thought about the match.
- Reigns getting mostly booed right from the start is just further proof that he isn't what the fans want.
- Rusev getting tossed out immediately bummed me out.
- AJ Styles' debut made me freak out to the point that my brother had to question why I was freaking out for this guy he's never heard of.
- Tyler Breeze being eliminated quickly is just depressing.
- Curtis Axel getting tossed out and not re-entering, claiming this makes up for last year is without a doubt the biggest missed opportunity of 2016.
- Side-note: where were the other Social Outcasts? How you gonna do Heath Slater like that.
- Chris Jericho spent way too long in this match and did absolutely nothing with his time.
- Goldust should only enter the Royal Rumble right after an Internet darling gets eliminated (Shattered Dreams).
- Ryback got DESTROYED by the crowd.
- Ryback hitting CM Punk-style knees in the corner was great trolling. Ryback is secretly great sometimes
- Also, Styles got so much height on that back body drop from Ryback I was afraid he was going to die on the way back to his home planet.
- Kofi Kingston's elimination save this year was alright, but the absolute best part was Big E triumphantly carrying Kofi on his shoulders for avoiding elimination.
- Also, how are you gonna give Kofi an off camera elimination.
- R-Truth not understanding what match he is in is still funny. Don't stop doing it.
- Braun Strowman looked like an absolute beast in this match. Bonus points for getting Big Show out of the match as quick as possible.
- Using Kevin Owens as the heat magnet for eliminating AJ Styles was a good idea. Taunting him after eliminating him is why he's still the best.
- SAMI ZAYN! AND HE ELIMINATED KEVIN OWENS! I smell a WrestleMania match.
- Mark Henry entered his last Royal Rumble and lasted 30 seconds. OK.
- I don't like him, but watching Brock Lesnar throw everybody around is still a lot of fun
- LOL Jack Swagger.
- Lesnar vs Strowman will probably suck if they do it, to be honest
- The Miz being a smart heel and waiting until the big guys are out of the match is such a great heel move. Well played!
- Having Reigns get a twenty minute rest is not the correct way to build him as a valiant babyface.
- Triple H beating up Dolph Ziggler is so symbolic it hurts.
- Also, Triple H fighting Chris Jericho gives me bad WrestleMania X8 flashbacks.
- Bray Wyatt not joining with Triple H because he hates authority is continuity at its finest
- To quote my brother: "Triple H hit the most ferocious crotch chop I've ever seen"
- The crowd isn't supposed to cheer when the top heel eliminates the top babyface. Just saying.
i was dying at these... lots of good points tho
ReplyDeleteThe talent pool is running pretty thin. They needed to have a NAME headline Wrestlemania.
ReplyDeleteI think they made the right choice with Triple H. Aside from Lesnar, I think he's the only guy who could've realistically won the title and have the crowd boo him out of the building.
