"It's weird that my best match ever was with Hogan, and at the same time my worst match ever was with Hogan"-The Ultimate Warrior
I have seen a few bad matches since I've started this list. They don't even compare to this match. This is one of the most drawn out, lazy, most uninteresting matches I've ever seen. It's so bad that Eric Bischoff, probably the biggest Hulk Hogan mark of all time, even called the match one of the worst in history. And let's just be completely honest here, this match exists so that Hogan could get his win back over Warrior from WrestleMania VI. I know that this sounds like a huge waste of money to sign a big name star like The Ultimate Warrior just to lose a match, but think back to all the things Bischoff has wasted money on (like a pay-per-view at a motorcycle rally where you can't bring in money at the gate), it doesn't seem too ridiculous. Ironically enough, this match, arguably the worst match in WCW history (maybe even wrestling history) happened on the same show as arguably the best match in WCW history; Goldberg vs Diamond Dallas Page.
Right off the bat, the two are stalling like crazy. There are long periods where the two will circle each other, doing a few wrist locks and one shoulder tackle by Warrior. Another long stall leads to possibly the longest test of strength spot in history. I swear, it goes on for almost two minutes straight. There's brawling to the outside, and at this point you can tell both Hogan and Warrior are completely gassed. Hogan is sweating so bad, his back is so shiny it looks like it was made of plastic.
There's an absolutely horrendous ref bump, which brings out The Giant, Stevie Ray, and VIRGIL (seriously, Virgil?), who Warrior beats up pretty easily. The referee is back up, and the match is all but over by now. Both of them are taking just about the safest bumps in history, and not even caring about making it look believable. Hogan tries to throw a fireball in Warrior's face, but he messes up and it literally backfires on him. Horace Hogan then runs down, because what this match needs is Horace f**king Hogan, he swerves the crowd, hits Warrior with a chair while Bischoff distracted the referee. The Hogans tried to light Warrior on fire (not kidding) until security stopped them. No wrestlers could have run down and helped him, because Doug Dellinger has to get over. Jesus Christ.
This was atrocious. It's no surprise after seeing this match that WCW went out of business three years later. You can blame this on the real life hatred Hogan and Warrior had for each other, their ages, the fact that finish involved Horace f**king Hogan, whatever it is, it's just a horrendous match, top to bottom.
The Verdict
It's the worst. It's the absolute worst. I guarantee there is a worse match out there (I think we all know which one it is), but as of now, this is the absolute worst.
Rankings (Best to Worst)
- Nikita Koloff vs Bobby Eaton-Bunkhouse Stampede
- The Oddities vs Kaientai-SummerSlam 1998
- Hulk Hogan vs Sid Justice-WrestleMania VIII
- Hollywood Hogan vs The Warrior-Halloween Havoc 1998
Please, for the love of God, give me something only half as bad as this...
This is me right now:
Thanks for reading.
It should really have been a classic encounter. Their first match was the first WWF PPV I watched live and I wad gullible enough to think this would top it.
