I was all prepared to write a "Let's Rant" about Roman Reigns winning at Fastlane, and WWE's complete ignorance to the fact that he is getting booed out of the building at every pay-per-view now. But then I realized something...why should I? Like, what's the point? Believe me, I'm not the only person who goes online and voices his grievances with the WWE product, but there really is just no point in doing it.
Let's go back in time a bit. January 25th, 2015: the day of the 2015 Royal Rumble. Roman Reigns gets booed out of the building by a rabid Philadelphia crowd. He overcomes the two-on-one disadvantage of Big Show and Kane, and gets booed out of the building. He overcomes the surprise attack by Rusev, wins the Royal Rumble, and gets booed out of the building. He gets endorsed by The Rock, one of the biggest, greatest, and most popular superstars in WWE history. He gets booed out of the building. At this point, you'd think WWE realize their mistake like last year. They didn't.
Roman Reigns beats Daniel Bryan at Fastlane to cement his spot at WrestleMania 31. He enters through the crowd, and, big surprise, gets booed out of the building. WWE realizes that if they let Reigns walk out with the title, there's going to be Hell to pay. They send out Seth Rollins, the top heel in the company, and he gets a hero's welcome to steal Reign's glory. At this point, you'd think WWE would realize their mistake like last year this time. They didn't.
The next night on RAW, Roman Reigns comes out as the mystery partner in the main event, and gets booed out of the building. Fast forward to Money in the Bank, Roman Reigns, the "top babyface", is about to win the Money in the Bank briefcase when Bray Wyatt stops him. Wyatt is cheered for stopping Reigns. Two months later at SummerSlam, Reigns is teaming with Dean Ambrose against Bray Wyatt & Luke Harper. Ambrose gets cheered. Reigns gets booed. At this point, you'd think WWE would realize their mistake THIS time. They didn't.
Fast forward three months to Survivor Series, Roman Reigns is in the finals for the vacant WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Dean Ambrose. Reigns had personally rejected the offer of Triple H to get a easy trip to the finals, and become the Authority's golden boy, like a noble babyface, and he got booed. At Survivor Series, he fought through two matches and won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, and he got booed. Sheamus cashed in the Money in the Bank briefcase on him on him, and he got cheered. Reigns was laying there on the mat, trying to cry, and got booed out of the building. At this point, you'd think WWE would realize their mistake THIS TIME. They didn't.
The RAW before TLC, he cut a promo on Sheamus, and people left the building. At TLC, he got booed out of the building. He beat up Triple H and got cheered, but that wasn't going to last. At the Royal Rumble, he enters at number 1, defending his WWE World Heavyweight Championship like a noble babyface, and gets booed out of the building. He gets taken out by the League of Nations, and gets booed out of the building when he comes back. He gets eliminated by Triple H, the biggest heel in the company, and Triple H gets cheered. At this point, you'd think WWE would FINALLY realize their mistake. Once again...they didn't.
That brings us to tonight. February 21st, 2016: the day of Fastlane 2016. Roman Reigns is competing against Brock Lesnar and Dean Ambrose, with the winner getting a match with Triple H at WrestleMania 32 for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. He enters and gets booed out of the building. He gets beat up by Brock Lesnar, and the crowd cheers. He beats up Dean Ambrose, and gets booed out of the building. Ambrose beats him up, and the crowd cheers. Reigns wins and gets booed out of the building. He points at the WrestleMania sign, and gets booed out of the building.
You might be wondering why I'm telling you all this. Look back at this entire article and just think about this: it has been almost 13 months since the 2015 Royal Rumble. 392 days. Despite getting booed out of the building almost all the time, despite having the biggest heels in the company getting cheered against him, despite the crowd's continually voicing that they want anyone but him, WWE keeps shoving this guy down our throats.
So I ask you this: what's the point? Why even bother complaining at this point? It doesn't matter what anyone says, does, or writes, Roman Reigns is going to be the new top star. I guess we just have to deal with it.
