Worst in the World: Scott Hall vs Roddy Piper-SuperBrawl IX

If you remember my entry on Hogan-Piper from SuperBrawl 1997 , you might remember one of the first things I brought up was how WCW was pushing a wrestler (Roddy Piper) in the main event over a decade after he stopped being a main eventer. Well, I guess they never learned, because two years later at the exact same show, Piper is not only still wrestling, at 45 years old at the time, mind you, but is winning championships. In this match, he defends his WCW United States Championship against Scott Hall, who was 40. The midcard feud of WCW in the late 90s was two guys who combine for over 80 years of age. Can you believe this company went out of business? After some early stalling, the match starts with Piper throwing his kilt in Hall's face and punching him. Piper tries to drag Hall to the corner by the kilt, but Hall sells it like it's a hip toss and it looks awkward beyond belief. Piper continues to punch away at Hall before grabbing Hall's Wolfpac t-shirt and starts ch...

My Thoughts on RAW (5/30/16): The Art of Doing Nothing

We kick off the show with Shane & Stephanie McMahon. They bicker in the ring for a bit before Shane drops the news (we already know) that SmackDown will be going live with it's own roster. Stephanie also drops the news (that we also already know) that John Cena will be returning tonight. Outcomes the New Day, who say they are excited, but paranoid about the brand split. Kofi says he trusts Shane because he has nice shoes (he does), but asks where the New Day is going. Stephanie says there hasn't been any decisions made about it yet, but New Day says they're dodging the question. Xavier proceeds to do the most EMPHATIC rendition of the W. W. E. WORLD. TAG. TEAM. CHAMPIONS. chant ever before the New Day worries about being split up. Big E then asks who is running SmackDown, and that decision hasn't been made yet either. Big E proposes a dance challenge between Shane and Stephanie, which they agree to. Shane dances with the New Day, then Stephanie is about to danc...

Worst in the World: ODB, Taylor Wilde, and Roxxi vs The Kongtourage-Genesis 2009

Back to TNA we go. Everytime I see someone online say that the Knockouts are better than the women in WWE, all I can really think is...what show have you been watching? With the exception of a select few (Gail Kim, early Awesome Kong, Taryn Terrell. etc.), I would gladly take just about any woman on WWE's roster over a TNA Knockout. In this match, we get 6 of the most interchangeable woman TNA had on its roster in 2009 and puts them in a 6 Knockout Tag Match. It's the teams of ODB, Roxxi, and Taylor Wilde against Awesome Kong's Kongtourage, Rhaka Khan, Raisha Saeed (Cheerleader Melissa under a veil), and Sojournor Bolt. It's TNA, it's the Knockouts, and Rhaka Khan, so that should set your expectations right there. Let's get into this. The match kicks off with Taylor Wilde going to work on Sojo Bolt with a lot of nice, quick offense. Saeed & Roxxi tag in, and Roxxi dominates her with forearms and a submission hold before tagging in ODB. Saeed is able to ...

My Thoughts on NXT (5/25/16): How the Mighty Fall (But Don't Kneel)

The show kicks off with William Regal in his office. Due to an injury sustained at the hands of Nia Jax, Bayley is unable to compete against Asuka at Takeover. Instead, there will be a #1 Contenders match between Nia, Alexa Bliss, and Carmella. Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa vs TM61- THE MIGHTY DON'T KNEEL BAYABAY! THEY'RE FINALLY IN NXT! THIS IS AWESOME! Although I've got to ask...why TM61? What does that name mean? My first thought was something from Pokemon, since that's the only place I've ever seen "TM" followed by numbers, but I'm guessing they aren't named after a move in Pokemon. Whatever, it's still cool that they're here. Plus, Gargano & Ciampa are now officially part of NXT, and how dope is that? Also, in their picture-in-picture interview, TM61 drops the line "We are the mighty, and the mighty don't kneel" and I marked out. This is lit in 1000 ways and the match hasn't even started. Ciampa starts...

Worst in the World: Sting & Hawk vs Meng & Kurasawa-Clash of the Champions XXXI

Before I start, sorry about this blog going completely silent for nearly two weeks. One of the hinges on my laptop broke, which then caused the WiFi cable in the laptop to get cut, making it basically useless with a lid half off and no Internet connection. To top off this series of unfortunate events, the day after I got it fixed, I got very sick, fell asleep during Extreme Rules, and barley stayed up for RAW last night. So I'm just now getting back into the swing of things, so let's do it. It's been a month since I last tackled a match for the Worst in the World, and while I do have an actual excuse for why I didn't post one for so long (it was finals week, followed by a broken laptop), I think it's funnier if you believe that the Los Villanos vs Los Psycho Circus broke me mentally and physically, and I need a month to recover. Well, like Seth Rollins, it's time to Redesign, Rebuild, and Reclaim and get back to work. And hopefully I'm easing my way ba...

So About the Ending of Global Wars...

This past Sunday, the third edition of Global Wars, a co-pay-per-view held by Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling. What has gotten the most people talking is the ending of the show, which saw the main event match between Ring of Honor Champion Jay Lethal and Colt Cabana interrupted by the Bullet Club, including their newest member Adam Cole (BAYBAY!) and the show ended with an extended beatdown by the Bullet Club. This finish has drawn the apparently upset a lot of fans, with Larry Csonka from 411Mania calling the ending of the show "bullsh*t." Here's basically what happened, after Jay Lethal's valet Taeler Hendrix was ejected from ringside, Colt Cabana locked in the Billy Goat's Curse submission. This prompted Hendrix to run out and pull the referee out of the ring. This brought out the Young Bucks, and they each superkicked the referee and Taeler Hendrix, They both get in the ring and toss Lethal and Cabana Bullet Club t-shirts. Suddenly, the lights go...

My Thoughts on RAW (5/9/16): The Extreme Booty

We kick off RAW with The Highlight Reel with Chris Jericho. Jericho says Dean Ambrose was supposed to be his guest tonight, but he's injured after the deadly potted plant shot last week. He lifts up a sheet covering a stool with Mitch the potted plant on it. Jericho says that Ambrose underestimated him, and now he's been shattered, waiting for someone to put him back together. Jericho puts the crowd on blast for caring more about Mitch the plant over Ambrose. Chris Jericho has no time for your silly memes! Jericho says Mitch is better than Ambrose, and he's a loser like all the fans. Jericho says he's a legend, and that brings out...Big Cass? Sure, why not! Cass says that if Jericho is a gift, he would return it to the store. He says the new era is not a cry for attention, it's a warning, and that he has arrived. He says Jericho is in his way, and that if Jericho doesn't get out of his way, he'll run through him. Jericho tells him to visit Amore in the ...

The Misuse of Damien Sandow

By now you've heard that WWE has released 8 of their on-screen employees yesterday, including Wade Barrett, Cameron, and Alex Riley. However, the one that hit a lot of people the hardest was the release of Damien Sandow, who had just recently began appearing on television again. This brings an end to his third run with the company, spanning from 2010 to 2016. While he might not be the worst booked wrestler in WWE history (I can name quite a few others who could fit that bill), but he could easily be described as the most misused wrestler of the 2010s. The Rise and Fall Let's start with when the horrible booking really started. Money in the Bank 2013: Damien Sandow ends up winning the World Heavyweight Championship Money in the Bank briefcase, giving him a shot at the World Heavyweight Championship whenever he wanted. You'd think this would be the beginning of a main event push for the Intellectual Savior of the Masses. Yeah, you'd think that. Right after Money ...

My Thoughts on NXT (5/4/16): Young, Wild, and Free (From TNA)

We kick off the show with the new NXT Champion Samoa Joe. Joe says him winning the championship was inevitable, he runs NXT now, and if anybody doesn't like that, he will take them down. Suddenly, a theme we've never heard before plays...IT'S ERIC YOUNG! OH MAN, THIS IS THE BEST EPISODE OF IMPACT WRESTLING EVER! Young says he collects championships, and since things changed for Joe, they're going to change for him. The two have a stare down before Joe leaves the ring because Young "doesn't belong in the same ring as him" and threatens to beat his ass. Nia Jax vs Tessa Blanchard- Nia squashed her. That is all Tye Dillinger vs Austin Aries -First off, Dillinger's new entrance: amazing. Second, they need to start selling the t-shirt Dillinger wears to the ring. I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Surprisingly, the crowd is heavily behind Dillinger for this match at the start. Not that Dillinger is bad (I'm a huge mark for him), I just assumed Aries ...

My Thoughts on NXT (4/27/16): Death of a Drifter

Annnnd I'm late to the NXT review again. Sorry guys, I've been focusing on school a lot more lately with the semester almost over. But now, here are my thoughts on last week's NXT, still from WrestleMania Axxess. Asuka vs Eva Marie- If it's any indication of how tired this crowd is after three full wrestling shows and preparing for a fourth, they can't even muster up enough energy to boo Eva Marie during her entrance. First off, let me just say that Corey Graves goes next level on commentary when Eva Marie comes out, it is so funny. The best part is when the crowd chants "You Can't Wrestle" at Eva, and he acts like its directed at Asuka. Incredibly, we get dualing "Let's Go Eva/Eva Sucks" chants. That's honestly something I never thought I'd hear. It would be like someone saying "Hey, look at this shark eating a cheeseburger", you just don't expect it to ever happen. After a few exchanges, Asuka takes control ...
