Worst in the World: The Matches That Killed WCW

Special thanks to Frost for suggesting three of the matches covered here. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below. WWE has been the undisputed powerhouse of professional wrestling for well over two decades now and nowhere is that better exemplified by how many people watch Monday Night Raw weekly. Even as the overall quality of the show has dipped over the years, and seeing a report that Raw posted a new record-low rating is becoming less and less rare, Raw still brings in more viewers than any other wrestling show every week. Even AEW Dynamite, a show that is generally well-received weekly, comes up well short in ratings compared to Raw. WWE has been the biggest titan in professional wrestling for so long that it's crazy to look back and see that, for quite a while, there was a company that had a more popular wrestling show than Monday Night Raw. That company, of course, being World Championship Wrestling. WCW would premiere M...

Worst in the World: Shane McMahon vs Eric Bischoff-SummerSlam 2003

(Special thanks to Otter Empire for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) SummerSlam 2003 is a mixed bag of a show. Kurt Angle vs Brock Lesnar. That's good. Triple H going over Goldberg in the main event even though he had a groin tear. That's bad. A fatal 4-way involving Eddie Guerrero, Chris Benoit, Tajiri, and Rhyno. That's good. La Résistance...existing. That's bad. And Shane McMahon vs Eric Bischoff...that''s also bad. Thrust in the middle of Shane's feud with Kane, we were all subjected to this match-up between El Hijo de Mr. McMahon himself and the Co-Raw General Manager in Bischoff at the 16th edition of SummerSlam. Bischoff would never be confused for a serious in-ring competitor, usually only wrestling for storyline purposes, while Shane, who has had some legitimately good matches in his career, really needs the right opponent to have a watchable match. And Eric Bisch...

Worst in the World: Eric Bischoff vs Teddy Long-Survivor Series 2005

I've said this more than a few times on this blog , but since it has come up again, I'll say it again; NON-WRESTLERS SHOULD NOT WRESTLE. THEY ARE NOT GOOD AT IT. There are notable exceptions like Lawernce Taylor and Stephen Amell, but they are far and few between. That being said, you can't change the past, and there are a ton of these non-wrester matches to get through. This entry in the Worst in the World takes a look at the ill-fated match between RAW General Manager Eric Bischoff against SmackDown General Manager Teddy Long at Survivor Series 2005. We've already seen Long try to wrestle, let's see how Bischoff fares. I mean, these guys had been around the wrestling business for over a decade each, they must know how to put a watchable match together, right?...Right? Let's get into this. The match kicks off with over a minute of Long dodging Bischoff, Long's manager Palmer Cannon hops up on the apron to mock Bischoff. Hey, remember Palmer Cannon?...
