Worst in the World: King Kong Bundy & Jim Neidhart vs Yokozuna & Jake Roberts-Heroes of Wrestling

Yeah...this is is going to be hard. Not hard because it's bad, but because this match is very infamous in the wrestling industry for one very depressing reason. For as bad as the entirety of the Heroes of Wrestling show is, it would most likely be forgotten in time if it weren't for this match. This is the infamous match where the legendary Jake the Snake Roberts showed up completely intoxicated to wrestle Jim Neidhart.  Roberts had well-publicized issues with drugs and alcohol throughout his career. There's even a scene in the documentary Beyond the Mat where Roberts is interviewed after reportedly smoking crack. Luckily, Roberts was able to get his life back on track with the help of Diamond Dallas Page in 2012 and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2014. But unfortunately, he still had a very public relapse in front of thousands of people at this show. He was so intoxicated, in fact, that the promoter had to change the planned double main event of Roberts vs ...

Worst in the World: The Bushwhackers vs Iron Sheik & Nikolai Volkoff-Heroes of Wrestling

Only five matches in the history have earned the notorious -5 stars rating from Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer. And I've gone through all of them in the Worst in the World...except one. And from what I understand, this is quite possible the worst of the bunch. And it could only come from a show as bad as the equally notorious Heroes of Wrestling. It's the Bushwhackers facing off against the team of the Iron Shiek and Nikolai Volkoff. That's over 200 years of age combined from everyone in this match. Let's just get into this. So before the match, Volkoff sings the Russian National Anthem (as usual) and Shiek doing a Persian Club demonstration. Then outcome the Bushwhackers, who lick some children in the crowd. Somebody call Chris Hansen. Sheik & Volkoff slowly blindside the Bushwhackers in the corner before the Bushwhackers take them both out and they roll to the outside. The Bushwhackers then get the fans to start chanting "USA". The Bushwhack...

Worst in the World: Abdullah the Butcher vs One Man Gang-Heroes of Wrestling

It was only a matter of time before I got back to the horror show known as Heroes of Wrestling. If you don't remember, this was an ill-fated wrestling show featuring some of the biggest wrestling stars of the 1980s. The problem? This took place in 1999. The stars were well past their primes, and it is widely regarded as one of the worst wrestling shows in history, with four of the matches on the card being on the bottom 100 on the Internet Wrestling Database. I've already done one (a match where George Steele was essentially defeated by a shirt), so onto the next one, a match between WWE Hall of Famer(?!) Abdullah the Butcher (who you might know as that guy who got fried in the Chamber of Horrors match) and One Man Gang. Gang throws a bunch of chairs in the ring before the match starts, so you can already tell what kind of match this is going to be. He is looking in rough shape, and Abdullah looks even worse. Commentator Randy Rosenbloom keeps calling Abdullah "Abby...

Worst in the World: Greg Valentine vs George Steele-Heroes of Wrestling

I take back every bad word I've said about WCW, because I don't think they've ever put on a show as bad as Heroes of Wrestling. I'm not even joking, this might be the worst pay-per-view of all time. It's so bad, that four of the matches on the card are on the 100 Worst Rated matches on the Internet Wrestling Database . That's half the card! The only bright side of this is that after this, there are only three left to review. First, let me just explain what Heroes of Wrestling was (according to Wikipedia). Bill Stone, the president of Fosstone Productions, had an idea to have a series of wrestling shows featuring some of the biggest stars of the 80s and early 90s. A show featuring the likes of 2 Cold Scorpio, Jake Roberts, and The Iron Sheik; sounds like a great show in say, 1993. The problem, this event was in 1999. By this point, all the stars were passed their prime and some could barely work. Every single match on the card was panned by critics and fans,...
