It's October 1996, and WCW is thriving. With the New World Order forming three months prior at Bash at the Beach, the now-Hollywood Hulk Hogan reclaiming the WCW World Heavyweight Championship and spray painting "nWo" on it the following month at Hog Wild, and Sting walking out on WCW the following month at Fall Brawl, the product is unbelievably hot. So much so that Monday Nitro was 17 weeks deep into their legendary 83-week winning streak in the ratings battle with the WWF's Monday Night Raw. This storyline was hitting, and WCW was looking to continue that hot streak with the main event of Halloween Havoc, with Hogan defending his World Heavyweight Championship against his former tag partner and longtime rival Randy Savage. Would this match create another iconic, memorable moment like the previous three pay-per-views?...Not really. This match, the first time Hogan and Savage would face off in a singles match since the WWF's "The Main Event III" in 1990...
