Worst in the World: Eric Young & Shark Boy vs Generation Me-TNA Destination X 2011

Throughout the late 2000s and 2010s, few tag teams made as much noise on the independent scene as the Young Bucks. Really breaking out at a time when WWE made their tag division a borderline afterthought, Matt & Nick Jackson were almost unmatched in terms of elite matches on the indys, most notably in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla & Ring of Honor before joining New Japan Pro-Wrestling and Bullet Club, becoming mainstays of the group as it reached its peak throughout the mid-2010s. Sure, their style hasn't endeared them to old-school wrestling fans, but you can't deny their impact on wrestling. And with the arrival of All Elite Wrestling in 2019, North American fans would finally get to see the Young Bucks on national television for the first time...
However...
In what has become somewhat of a footnote in their careers, the Young Bucks had been on a nationally televised wrestling product before AEW, that being in TNA as "Generation Me." Generation Me signed with TNA in 2009, with Matt & Nick Jackson renamed Max & Jeremy Buck, respectively, following a tryout match against the Motor City Machine Guns. That match went over so well that TNA would have the teams run it back again for the Bucks television debut in 2010. And then they ran it back again...and again...and again...and again.  Quite literally, of the 27 televised matches the Bucks had in TNA, 12 of them featured the Guns. It genuinely felt like TNA had no ideas for Generation Me outside of having them wrestle the Motor City Machine Guns in some capacity. The matches they had were good, but at a certain point, the repetitiveness really started to wear out.
Generation Me spent just over a year and a half in TNA, mostly as X-Division & Tag Team fodder when they weren't endlessly wrestling the Guns, before both brothers requested their releases in 2011. They made appearances on two One Night Only pay-per-views (TNA's unremarkable taped pay-per-view series) in 2013, but that was the extent of their TNA careers; good matches with the Guns, and waiting around for their next match with the Guns.
Generation Me's last match under contract in TNA would come at 2011's Destination X, where they took on the team of Eric Young & Shark Boy. Would they leave on a high note...maybe? Dave Meltzer gave this match one and a half stars, which isn't horrible, but considering how highly Meltzer generally rates the Bucks, a 1.5/5 says a lot more than it usually does. Meanwhile, Cagematch.net doesn't have enough ratings for the match to give it an average, but the two individual ratings it does have are decent. Let's take a look for ourselves.
The bell rings, but Eric Young & Shark Boy immediately confuse themselves, each getting in and out of the ring at the same time when deciding who should start the match. Shark Boy eventually steps in the ring alone to face Jeremy Buck...only for E.Y. to tag in immediately. E.Y hypes up the crowd...only to tag Shark Boy right back in. Shark Boy & Jeremy finally lock up, with Jeremy forcing Shark Boy into the corner. The referee forces a break, only for Jeremy to slap Shark Boy right after. Jeremy whips Shark Boy to the opposite corner and charges in, but Shark Boy dodges him and kicks him in the back. Stone Cold Shark Boy stomps out Jeremy in the corner before going for the 10 punches. Shark Boy only gets to four before Jeremy shoves him away and goes for a clothesline. Shark Boy ducks it, however, before hitting the Thesz Press followed by punches and an elbow drop.
Shark Boy tags in E.Y., who climbs to the top rope and hits a double axe handle. E.Y. tries to follow up with an Irish whip, but Jeremy counters before hitting a disgusting-looking back elbow.
Jeremy tags out to Max, who clubs E.Y. across the back before he retreats to the corner. Max follows him there and whips E.Y. to the opposite corner, but E.Y. leapfrogs over him before whipping Max back to the original corner. E.Y. charges at him, but Max leapfrogs over him as well E.Y charges at Max again, but Max slides under. E.Y. does the same when Max charges at him before taking him down with an arm drag. Max responds with an arm drag of his own, followed by a leg sweep and a cover, but doesn't even get a one count. E.Y. tries to sweep Max's leg out from under him, but Max backflips to avoid it. Max tries to follow up with a roundhouse kick, but E.Y. ducks it and goes for a roll-up. Max blocks it by running to the corner and grabbing the ropes, but E.Y. quickly follows up with a step-up kick.
E.Y. follows up with an inverted atomic drop before tagging in Shark Boy, who immediately bites Max on the ass. Max retreats from the ring, prompting Shark Boy to follow him out, only for Max to backflip into a headscissor handstand, putting him in position for Jeremy to hit a mule kick from the apron. E.Y. objects, inadvertently distracting the referee Mike Posey while the Bucks roll Shark Boy back in the ring and stomp him out. Jeremy just stays in the ring without a tag, choking Shark Boy in the corner with his boot. Shark Boy tries to fight back and goes for an Irish whip, but Jeremy reverses it before locking in a sleeper hold. Shark Boy starts to fade, falling to the mat. Posey raises his hand three times, with it falling the first two, but Shark Boy keeps his hand up the third time.
Shark Boy fights to his feet and tries to make the tag to E.Y., but Max runs in to knock E.Y. off the apron. Max quickly hits a mule kick on Shark Boy before alley-ooping Jeremy over his head into a dropkick on Shark Boy. Jeremy makes the cover, but Shark Boy kicks out at two. Jeremy tries to follow up with a clothesline off an Irish whip to the ropes, but Shark Boy ducks it and hits a neckbreaker. E.Y. has ditched the shorts as he gets the hot tag from Shark Boy.
E.Y. runs wild on Max, who also got the tag from Jeremy, hitting a clothesline and a dropkick. Jeremy runs in for a clothesline of his own, but E.Y. ducks it and knocks him down with a flying forearm. Max retreats into the corner and E.Y. tries to whip him across the ring, but Max reverses it, sending E.Y. to the opposite corner. E.Y. flips over the top rope and onto the apron, where he catches a charging in Max with a shoulder block before getting back in the ring and hitting a belly-to-belly suplex. E.Y. makes the cover, but Jeremy runs in to break it up.
Shark Boy runs in, but Jeremy immediately tosses him out of the ring. Jeremy teases a dive, but instead leaps onto the apron before leaping back over the top rope and hitting a facebuster on E.Y. Jeremy then climbs back out on the apron before moonsaulting onto Shark Boy. The cameras nearly miss Max hitting a Stunner on E.Y. before he makes the cover, but E.Y. kicks out at two. Generation Me sets up for More Bang for Your Buck (a rolling fireman's carry slam followed by a 450 splash and a moonsault), but Shark Boy crotches Jeremy on the top rope to break it up. E.Y. slips out of the fireman's carry before Shark Boy hits the Chummer (a Stunner) on Max. E.Y. follows up with a wheelbarrow suplex into a neckbreaker for the three and the win.

The Verdict

Perfectly fine match. The Bucks obviously have had significantly better matches, both before and after this, and this isn't anything special, but there's nothing to complain about with this one.

  1. 28 years ago today was when the landscape of wrestling was changed forever with the formation of the nWo. That being said, it’s very easy to forget almost every other match that took place at 1996 Bash at the Beach. Here’s some candidates for your list.

Carson City Silver Dollar Match - John Tenta vs Big Bubba Rogers

Lord of the Ring Taped Fist Match -
Jim Duggan vs Diamond Dallas Page

Double Dog Collar Chain Match -
The Nasty Boys vs Public Enemy

    Steve McMichael vs Joe Gomez

  4. Here's a recent match from AEW Dynamite 7/24/24 where two great wrestled in a sloppy and slow match!

  5. Great to see you back, albeit sadly Survey doesn't seem to work, since every time I enter the link it says its unavailable.
With that said, here's a suggestion, Earthquake (John Tenta) vs Koji Kitao at WWF/SWS show in 1991,better known as both Tenta shooting on Koji during the match and later Kita went on a rant that stated that a wrestling is fake
I like Tenta's work (and may he rest in piece), but the shoot certainly affected the natch (albeit he made it thanks to a suggestion to show Kitao a lesson)

Worst in the World: The Gimmick Battle Royal-WrestleMania X-Seven

(Special thanks to Frost for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) WrestleMania X-Seven. Heavily considered the not just the best WrestleMania, but the greatest wrestling show of all time, WrestleMania X-Seven took place during the hottest period in the WWF's history, and features just about every one of the hottest acts in wrestling at the time. An undercard featuring the likes of Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, William Regal, Kane, and the Big Show. One of the biggest female stars in the history of wrestling in Chyna. A killer TLC match between the Dudley Boyz, the Hardy Boyz, and Edge & Christian. A wild brawl between The Undertaker and Triple H. A massive main event between Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock. Hell, even the father vs son Street Fight between Vince & Shane McMahon. It's a star-studded affair. However, there's one match that sticks out like

Worst in the World: The Last Rites Match-TNA Destination X 2007

(Special thanks to an anonymous user for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) An often discussed aspect of professional wrestling is the backstage politicking of Hulk Hogan. Throughout his career as a major attraction in wrestling, Hogan's philosophy has always been to protect Hulk Hogan...OK, sometimes he'd help Ed Leslie, but most of the time it was to protect Hulk Hogan. Because of that philosophy and Hogan's influence as a top guy, there have been multiple instances where a company's booking and other wrestlers have suffered as a result. Would having Mr. Perfect win the 1990 Royal Rumble made sense and could have elevated a rising star and potentially created a new main event player? Yes, but that would require Hogan to not win, and that doesn't work for Hogan, so he wins the Rumble even though he doesn't need elevating. Would booking Randy Orton to beat Hogan at SummerSlam 20

Worst in the World: D-Generation X vs Brothers of Destruction-Crown Jewel

This match didn't need to happen. After Triple H and the Undertaker had one of the most brutally bad matches of 2018 at Super Show-Down not even a month earlier, nobody wanted to see them try to wrestle again. Also, nobody wanted to see Shawn Michaels come out of retirement after his fantastic sendoff in 2010, especially for a match like this. But here we are, Triple H & Shawn Michaels facing The Undertaker & Kane in 2018. The combined ages of these four at the time is 206. That's a number you'd expect to see from a match at Heroes of Wrestling. And anyone can come up with their own reason as to why this match is happening, but that would just be ignoring the actual reason. For those of you who don't know, Crown Jewel was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. That might not seem like important information, but you can't really discuss this match without mentioning it. Despite the numerous reasons that running shows in Saudi Arabia is morally wrong (their abuse

Worst in the World: Nia Jax's Worst Matches

Click the link here to vote in the poll and help decide the next edition of the Worst in the World. Nia Jax's first run with the WWE can really only be described as hard to watch. Sure, she had a few stand-out matches, most notably (and surprisingly) her match with Ronda Rousey at Money in the Bank, and an underrated gem with Bayley at NXT TakeOver: London, but those were always outshined by her most infamous matches and moments. She's since returned to WWE and, for the most part, seems to have improved a bit, but the reputation she got from her initial run is gonna be hard to shake off. This week, I'll be looking at some of Jax's worst matches. These include just flat-out bad matches, and matches that have become infamous examples of her reckless in-ring work. Match #1: vs Charlotte Flair-April 10th, 2017 Raw The first match we'll be looking at is from the April 10, 2017 episode of Monday Night Raw, when Nia took on Charlotte Flair. The two had been on the losing e
