My Thoughts on SmackDown (1/10/17): Queen of Black Harts

  • We kick off the show with the Ambrose Asylum. Ambrose announces he's entering the Royal Rumble before saying he wanted a live alligator on the show, but they don't have the permits, so he got a fake alligator head from the gas station he named Maryse. He is interrupted by the Miz & Maryse, and the Miz says Ambrose is destroying the Intercontinental Championship by holding it before announcing he's entering the Royal Rumble. He says Ambrose stole the title by influencing the referee not to throw out the match after Maryse slapped him and gives him an opportunity to give him the title back or face lawsuits. Ambrose says he does have something that belongs to him...the Miz Participation Award that he gave him. He gives it to Miz, who throws it back at him before attacking him. Maryse tries to slap Ambrose while Miz holds him up, but Ambrose ducks, causing Maryse to slip Miz before Ambrose hits Dirty Deeds on Miz. Ambrose then gives Maryse the Miz Participation Award before walking off.
  • Backstage, Natalya attacks Nikki Bella from behind before their match.
  • Natalya vs Nikki Bella-Nikki goes right after Natalya before the bell starts. Natalya tries to leave, but Nikki follows after her and the two brawl on the ramp. Natalya throws Nikki back in the ring and the two continue to fight. Natalya tries to hop the barricade, but Nikki stops her and brings her back to the ring. The two continue to fight until more referees break them up. They separate them, but Natalya gives Nikki a chop block to the back of her leg when they do. Natalya throws Nikki out of the ring and locks in the Sharpshooter.
  • Dolph Ziggler gets interviewed. He is asked why he attacked Kalisto & fought Apollo Crews in the locker room last week, but he walks off without answering.
  • Kalisto vs Dolph Ziggler-Kalisto kicks off the match...with kicks! He sends Ziggler out of the ring with a hurricanrana before Ziggler gets back in the ring. The two exchange holds while Ziggler gets a few near falls off of cradles. Ziggler hits a neckbreaker before going to work on the left arm. Ziggler goes for another neckbreaker, but Kalisto turns it into a backslide for a near fall. Kalisto avoids a Famouser and hits a kick from the apron, but Ziggler yanks him down onto the rope when he goes for a springboard, sending him to the outside before the commercial break. We come back to see Ziggler working over Kalisto with an headlock. Kalisto gets a near fall by rolling Ziggler up, but Ziggler kicks out and keeps the hold locked in. Kalisto escapes with a jawbreaker and hits a headscissor takedown before getting a near fall off a roll up. Ziggler responds with a dropkick and makes the cover, but Kalisto rolls it into a crucifix cover for the win. Pretty good match, they worked well together. After the match, Ziggler attacks Kalisto before leaving the ring and grabbing a chair. Ziggler batters Kalisto with the chair until Apollo Crews runs out. The two brawl, but Ziggler gets the upper hand and hits Crews with the chair too. Ziggler hits both Crews & Kalisto one more time before walking off.
  • Backstage, American Alpha gets interviewed. They say the Wyatt's aren't the alphas on SmackDown anymore, they are, and that the Wyatt's won't take the Tag Team Championships from them tonight.
  • Renee Young interviews John Cena. Cena says Baron Corbin has run through everything in his path and that he himself has to make a statement tonight. He says he's fired up and ready for Corbin tonight.
  • The Wyatt Family appear on the screen. Bray says the devil is at American Alpha's door and their title reign is ending tonight.
  • American Alpha (c) vs Bray Wyatt & Randy Orton with Luke Harper-SmackDown Tag Team Championships-Wyatt & Gable start off going back and forth before Jordan makes a blind tag and hits a dropkick. Jordan suplexes Wyatt and mat wrestles him to the ground, getting two near falls along the way. Wyatt is able to force Jordan to his side of the ring and tag in Orton, who beats down on Jordan. Gable tags in and takes down Orton before going to the waist lock, but Orton breaks out and tags in Wyatt. Gable locks in a hanging armbar over the ropes and avoids an Uranage and a Sister Abigail before tossing Wyatt out of the ring and hitting a somersault senton from the apron. Back in the ring, Wyatt hits Gable with a crossbody block for a near fall before tagging Orton in. Orton tosses Gable out of the ring and side suplexes him onto the barricade twice. Orton brings Gable back in the ring, where Wyatt tags in and hits a gutbuster for a near fall. The Wyatt's continue to beat down on Gable until Gable makes the hot tag. IT'S JASON JORDAN HOT TAG TIME BITCHES! Jordan suplexes the Wyatt's around the ring before spearing Wyatt in the corner for a near fall. Jordan goes to the top rope, but Harper distracts him and gets him down, allowing Wyatt to hit him from behind. Orton tags in and suplexes Jordan onto the ropes and to the outside before the commercial break. We come back to see Orton working over Jordan with a side headlock. The Wyatt's continue to beat down Jordan until Jordan comes back at Wyatt with a clothesline. Gable gets the hot tag and hits a diving crossbody on Orton, followed by a Northern Lights suplex on Orton, a crossbody on Wyatt, and a German suplex on Orton, but the pin is broken up by Wyatt. Gable hits a diving clothesline for a near fall before Harper hops up on the apron. Orton goes for the draping DDT, knocking Harper off the apron in the process, and hits it before calling for the RKO. Harper gets on the apron and distracts Orton, allowing Gable to shove Orton into Harper, roll Orton up and get the pin to retain the titles. After the match, Orton & Harper argue like they did two weeks ago and shove each other before being broken up by Wyatt again. Orton goes after Harper when Harper tries to superkick him but hits Wyatt on accident. Wyatt yells at both of them before walking off.
  • Backstage, Becky Lynch & Daniel Bryan try to figure out who La Luchadora is before Lynch says that because she tapped out Alexa Bliss, she should get a title shot. Bliss shows up and says she only dressed as La Luchadora to try to find out who La Luchadora is. Bryan agrees with Lynch and books a title match for next week, and to prevent interference, the match will be in a steel cage. Because, as history has shown, nobody interferes in steel cage matches ever.
  • Carmella with James Ellsworth vs CJ Lunde-CJ Lunde looks like a wrestler from the 1950s. Also, she is indy wrestler Thunderkitty. Carmella dominates the majority of the match before Lunde starts to make a comeback, only for Ellsworth to trip her up. Carmella forearms Lunde down for a near fall. Lunde chases Carmella out of the ring, but Ellsworth grabs her ankle when she tries to get back in. This allows Carmella to hit an STO, which Lunde improperly bumps for, before locking in the Code of Silence for the submission win.
  • Backstage, Carmella & Ellsworth celebrate and Carmella says she has something special for him. Ellsworth thinks it's a kiss, but Carmella says she's taking him on a shopping trip.
  • Baron Corbin gets interviewed. He says he doesn't care what John Cena thinks and says it is not his time anymore. AJ Styles walks up to him before saying he's doing commentary tonight before telling him to be like AJ Styles and beat up John Cena.
  • Noam Dar cuts a promo hyping up 205 Live.
  • Baron Corbin vs John Cena-The two square off before Corbin floors Cena with a big boot. Corbin tosses Cena out of the ring before the commercial break. We come back to see Cena collapse under Corbin's weight when going for the AA. Corbin goes out of the ring to yell at Styles, but Cena follows him out and hits him a few times. Corbin sets up Cena against the barricade and throws some forearms at the back of his head before throwing Cena back in the ring. Corbin charges at Cena, but Cena pulls the ropes down, sending Corbin back out of the ring. The two brawl at ringside before Cena dodges a charging Corbin again, sending Corbin into the steel steps. Cena tries to knock Corbin down with shoulder tackles, but Corbin catches him and slams Cena for a near fall. Corbin hits a sidewalk slam (not a Deep Six, Mauro) for a near fall before punching Cena to the ground. Corbin continues to cut off Cena's comeback attempts before locking in a bearhug, which Cena escapes before hitting a tornado DDT. Cena hits a the spin-out powerbomb followed by the Five Knuckle Shuffle before hitting the AA for the win. Fine match, nothing special. Cena & Styles stare eachother down to close the show

Worst in the World: The Last Rites Match-TNA Destination X 2007

(Special thanks to an anonymous user for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) An often discussed aspect of professional wrestling is the backstage politicking of Hulk Hogan. Throughout his career as a major attraction in wrestling, Hogan's philosophy has always been to protect Hulk Hogan...OK, sometimes he'd help Ed Leslie, but most of the time it was to protect Hulk Hogan. Because of that philosophy and Hogan's influence as a top guy, there have been multiple instances where a company's booking and other wrestlers have suffered as a result. Would having Mr. Perfect win the 1990 Royal Rumble made sense and could have elevated a rising star and potentially created a new main event player? Yes, but that would require Hogan to not win, and that doesn't work for Hogan, so he wins the Rumble even though he doesn't need elevating. Would booking Randy Orton to beat Hogan at SummerSlam 20

Worst in the World: The Gimmick Battle Royal-WrestleMania X-Seven

(Special thanks to Frost for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) WrestleMania X-Seven. Heavily considered the not just the best WrestleMania, but the greatest wrestling show of all time, WrestleMania X-Seven took place during the hottest period in the WWF's history, and features just about every one of the hottest acts in wrestling at the time. An undercard featuring the likes of Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, William Regal, Kane, and the Big Show. One of the biggest female stars in the history of wrestling in Chyna. A killer TLC match between the Dudley Boyz, the Hardy Boyz, and Edge & Christian. A wild brawl between The Undertaker and Triple H. A massive main event between Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock. Hell, even the father vs son Street Fight between Vince & Shane McMahon. It's a star-studded affair. However, there's one match that sticks out like

Worst in the World: D-Generation X vs Brothers of Destruction-Crown Jewel

This match didn't need to happen. After Triple H and the Undertaker had one of the most brutally bad matches of 2018 at Super Show-Down not even a month earlier, nobody wanted to see them try to wrestle again. Also, nobody wanted to see Shawn Michaels come out of retirement after his fantastic sendoff in 2010, especially for a match like this. But here we are, Triple H & Shawn Michaels facing The Undertaker & Kane in 2018. The combined ages of these four at the time is 206. That's a number you'd expect to see from a match at Heroes of Wrestling. And anyone can come up with their own reason as to why this match is happening, but that would just be ignoring the actual reason. For those of you who don't know, Crown Jewel was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. That might not seem like important information, but you can't really discuss this match without mentioning it. Despite the numerous reasons that running shows in Saudi Arabia is morally wrong (their abuse

Worst in the World: Nia Jax's Worst Matches

Click the link here to vote in the poll and help decide the next edition of the Worst in the World. Nia Jax's first run with the WWE can really only be described as hard to watch. Sure, she had a few stand-out matches, most notably (and surprisingly) her match with Ronda Rousey at Money in the Bank, and an underrated gem with Bayley at NXT TakeOver: London, but those were always outshined by her most infamous matches and moments. She's since returned to WWE and, for the most part, seems to have improved a bit, but the reputation she got from her initial run is gonna be hard to shake off. This week, I'll be looking at some of Jax's worst matches. These include just flat-out bad matches, and matches that have become infamous examples of her reckless in-ring work. Match #1: vs Charlotte Flair-April 10th, 2017 Raw The first match we'll be looking at is from the April 10, 2017 episode of Monday Night Raw, when Nia took on Charlotte Flair. The two had been on the losing e

Worst in the World: Carmella vs Asuka: How to Destroy an Aura

Throughout the entire history of the WWE, we've never seen, and probably will never see again, a woman booked as strong as Asuka was to start her run. Coming into WWE in 2015 with over a decade of experience wrestling in her native Japan as Kana, Asuka was immediately treated like a huge deal. Hell, even from the first time we saw her on a WWE broadcast, she was seated in the crowd of NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn next to two Hall of Famers in Ric Flair & Sgt. Slaughter. Officially debuting in October 2015, Asuka would go her entire NXT career, nearly two full years, without being pinned or submitted. She was booked so strong, in fact, that instead of dropping the NXT Women's Championship in what would be her last match in NXT at the time to Ember Moon (even after sustaining an injury), an act that is almost always the case for champions leaving NXT for the main roster, Asuka retained and later vacated the title, keeping her streak intact. For a company that is more than willing t
