Maccabiah Mania were two shows held four years apart put together by Jeff Bukantz, a Jewish-American fencer looking to raise money to send his team to the Maccabiah Games, essentially the Jewish Olympics. A pro-wrestling fan and friend of Ken Patera and Iron Mike Sharper, Bukantz held the first Maccabiah Mania under a tent in his front yard, headlined by several legends of professional wrestling. The dying days of WCW still fascinate me to this day. It never ceases to amaze me how bafflingly awful pretty much everything that went on in this company in 2000 is just mind-blowing. ECW, which was on its last legs around the same time that WCW was, might have had confusing, inmates running the asylum-style moments sprinkled in during its dying days, but nowhere near as consistently as WCW did. If you want an idea of just how nonsensical and overbooked the Vince Russo-era of World Championship Wrestling was, then look no further than Jeff Jarrett vs Sting. Taking place at Halloween Havoc 2000, a show I've already looked at a match from for this series , Jarrett and Sting, both of whom are talented wrestlers capable of putting on a good match, are forced to work through an incoherent mess of run-ins and interference. In recent years, WWE has received criticism for its reliance on old stars on their shows. Specifically, with their Saudi Arabia propaganda events, WWE has routinely booked their aging wrestlers to go out and wrestle despite being well past their primes. While this doesn't seem to have negatively affected the active members of the roster not named Bray Wyatt, the matches are still borderline unbearable, with two of these matches (DX vs Brothers of Destruction at Crown Jewel 2018 and The Undertaker vs Goldberg at Super ShowDown 2019) being considered the worst matches of their respective years. With that being said, WWE can't even hold a candle to the use of aging wrestlers in Mexico. The last time I came across Van Hammer on the Worst in the World, I remarked that I knew nothing about him. Now, nearly four years later, I've discovered something...Van Hammer sucks. I've only ever seen him in WCW a couple of times, but everything he's ever done has been bad. I have no idea why WCW was soon keen on pushing this guy in 1991 and 1992  His match with Terry Taylor was passable, only because it went less than 45 seconds. This match, however, really exposed just how bad he was. In his pay-per-view debut, Van Hammer took on Doug Somers. I'm glad you asked.
