There have been many attempts to reinvent the wheel when it comes to the Steel Cage match. Easily one of the most notable match types in the history of professional wrestling, many a promotion has tried to take the match and twist it in their own way. Sometimes, you get things that are great, like getting Hell in a Cell by increasing the size of the cage, WarGames by adding a second cage & ring, or even Combat Zone Wrestling's Cage of Death by adding weapons for an ultraviolent match. However, there are also times where trying to be different just led to a bad time all around. Matches like the Kennel from Hell, the Doomsday Cage, and the Electrified Steel Cage (don't worry, we'll get to that one day) have gone down as not just some of the worst cage match types ever, but as the worst gimmick mat...

(NOTE: Merry Christmas everyone! Now, obviously, this is a week late and not what I had teased in the last post. I had a lot of schoolwork that needed to be done and things kind of got away from me. At the same time, I wasn't able to sign up for Impact Plus (the payment wouldn't go through, for some reason) so I decided to change course until I get that sorted out. The bar for celebrity wrestling matches has gone up considerably in the last few years. Once a pretty blatant piece of publicity that would contribute decent at best and horrible at worst (I'm looking at you, Jenna Morasca), the last few years have seen some non-wrestlers step in the ring and put on some legitimately good matches. Whether they be fun watches like Johnny Knoxville vs Sami Zayn or Shaquille O'Neal team...

It was only a matter of time before New Jack popped up in the Worst in the World. Over the course of his near 30-year career, New Jack developed two reputations. One as someone who fully embodied the high-risk, violent brawling style that made ECW popular. The other, which is more prominent, is of someone who's more than willing to take liberties with & shoot on his opponents with little to no provocation. There were no shortage of incidents that saw New Jack, at best, take things a bit too far to put it mildly, and worst, engage in some genuinely criminal behavior. New Jack is so infamous for these incidents that you can probably think of more matches where he did shoot on an opponent than matches where he didn't. Today, at the request of both frequent contributors to the recommendations Frost and an anonymous user, I'll be taking a look at one of these incidents. That incident being New Jack's Scaffold match against Vic Grimes from Xtreme Pro Wrestling's Freef...

So...let's talk about this. The Worst in the World looks at the worst-reviewed matches in the history of professional wrestling. The key word there is "reviewed." Aside from matches requested in the comments, matches that I add to the list myself are generally based on how the wrestling community received them, whether it be ratings on Cagematch.net, Dave Meltzer's star ratings, or matches listed in various "Worst Wrestling Matches of All-Time" lists online. Because of that, the vast majority of the matches featured in this series (I'm talking 99.5% of them) are matches that the majority of the community would have seen. Plenty of WWE, a good chunk of WCW, a little bit of TNA and New Japan, and even an All Japan or a CMLL match every now and then. Even shows like Heroes of Wrestling or companies like World Wrestling All-Stars were sold on established names the average wrestling fan would recognize, so it's understandable why those matches are known. ...
