Worst in the World: Candice LeRae vs. Christina Von Eerie-PWG DIO!

On July 3, 2022, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla held their Nineteen event. Among the six-match card was a match pitting Masha Slamovich against Yuka Sakazaki. At first glance, this doesn't seem too out of place on an independent show, as Slamovich is one of the most popular women in the scene right now, and Sakazaki's work in Japan makes her an excellent fit for the company. For PWG, however, this match was highly significant, as it was the first straight-up women's match to take place in the company in over 12 years. The mid to late 1980s were not kind to the American Wrestling Association. As Hulk Hogan & the Rock 'n' Wrestling Connection propelled the WWF while WCW was gaining steam behind Ric Flair, the AWA took a noticeable backseat as the territory days were coming to an end. Essentially, the company would become what ECW would be during the Attitude Era and what Ring of Honor would be after that; a third promotion whose talent would get poached by the bigger companies.
