Worst in the World: Brock Lesnar in Saudi Arabia

Brock Lesnar is still a great wrestler. I will stand by that. Since returning to WWE, Lesnar has had great matches, whether they be traditionally great matches like his bouts with AJ Styles and Daniel Bryan, or balls to the wall, fast-paced, action-packed matches that are short on psychology but make up for it with excitement, see his matches with Finn Bálor and Goldberg. Again, I will stand by this, Brock Lesnar is a great wrestler...when he wants to be. When he doesn't, he's unbearable and damages the show and the wrestlers he's working with. His match with Dean Ambrose at WrestleMania 32 is infamous for how little Lesnar cared, as said by Ambrose himself. Braun Strowman's short defeat at the hands of Lesnar at No Mercy 2017 left a lot to be desired and severely halted his momentum. And of course, Kofi Kingston got his feel-good WWE Championship reign snuffed in eight seconds at the hands of Lesnar, and hasn't even gotten close to getting back to the main event since. However, the most blatant examples of Lesnar's pure refusal to entertain is when WWE heads to Saudi Arabia. Lesnar has wrestled on four of the five Saudi shows and every single one has been bad. None of them have cracked 10 minutes and the majority of them are under four minutes. Today, I'm pulling a quadruple-header and looking at all of Lesnar's Saudi Arabia matches. Let's get into this.

Match #1: Greatest Royal Rumble

Lesnar's first Saudi Arabia match found him rematching Roman Reigns at the Greatest Royal Rumble. Following their stinker of a main event at WrestleMania 34, the two would face off again, this time in a steel cage match for Lesnar's Universal Championship. Did the added gimmick improve a match-up that nobody wanted to see again? Let's find out.
The two circle each other to start before Reigns goes for a quick Superman Punch. Lesnar counters it and quickly hits a German suplex. Lesnar follows up with three more before hitting an F-5 but doesn't make the cover. Lesnar opts for another F-5 attempt, but Reigns counters it and hits a Superman Punch. Lesnar doesn't go down, so Reigns hits another. Lesnar stumbles again, so Reigns hits another before going for the Spear. However, Lesnar catches him and goes for another F-5, but Reigns blocks it by grabbing the cage wall. Reigns frees himself from Lesnar's grasp and kicks him away and climbs over the cage wall, but Lesnar catches him and drags him back inside. Lesnar knocks Reigns down to the mat and tries to climb out, but Reigns catches him and powerbomb him down to the mat.
Reigns throws Lesnar around the cage before hitting a Spear, but Lesnar recovers quickly, prompting Reigns to hit another one. Lesnar is still moving, so Reigns hits a third Spear, this time running the ropes for a Supercharged Spear, and makes the cover, but Lesnar kicks out at two. Reigns tries to escape through the door, but Paul Heyman runs over and slams it on Reigns. This allows Lesnar to hit another F-5 and makes the cover, but Reigns kicks out. Heyman throws a chair into the ring for Lesnar, but Reigns catches him with a Spear when he tries to use it. Reigns covers, but Lesnar kicks out again. Reigns beats down Lesnar with the chair before hitting another Superman Punch and calling for the Spear. Lesnar leans against the cage wall as Reigns hits the Spear, sending both men through the cage. The official decision gives Lesnar the win, as his back hit the ground before Reigns did.

The Verdict

Honestly, this match isn't really that bad. I'd actually say it's one of the better matches I've seen for this series. It's not overly long and the action is consistent throughout the match. It's not great, but I can't rag on it too much.

Match #2: Crown Jewel 2018

Lesnar's next appearance in Saudi Arabia came at Crown Jewel 2018, about six months after the Greatest Royal Rumble. In that time, Roman Reigns defeated Lesnar for the Universal Championship at SummerSlam that year, setting up a triple threat match between the two and Braun Strowman, who's Money in the Bank cash-in was ruined by Lesnar at Hell in a Cell. However, Reigns was forced to relinquish the title after his leukemia returned after being in remission, making this a singles match between Lesnar and Strowman for the vacated Universal Championship.
Before the match, Raw General Manager Baron Corbin does the title presentation that the referee normally does, only to blindside Strowman with the title as he gets out of the ring. Corbin demands the bell be rung, allowing Lesnar to hit a quick F-5, but Strowman kicks out. Lesnar quickly hits a second F-5, but Strowman kicks out again. Lesnar hits another F-5, but Strowman kicks out yet again. Lesnar goes for a fourth, only to opt to F-5 Strowman out of the ring. The referee starts to count him out, but Strowman beats the count. Lesnar goes for a fifth F-5, but Strowman fights out and catches him with a boot in the corner, but Lesnar quickly catches a charging Strowman with the fifth F-5 for the three and the win.

The Verdict

I mean...who did this benefit? Lesnar got a cheap win because of the pre-match attack, Corbin was firmly in the "go-away heat" portion of his stint as Raw GM, so he didn't get any heat from this, and Strowman got demolished. Even though he kicked out of four F-5s, he still got the bare minimum of offense in this match and looked like an absolute chump. He might not have been white-hot like he was during his feud with Reigns the previous year, but he was still popular, and this derailed him for a long time. It took years for him to get back to the main event scene after this. This match was pointless, which should never be the case for a world title match.

Match #3: Crown Jewel 2019

Lesnar wouldn't wrestle at Super ShowDown in 2019, instead doing a post-match run-in during the match between Seth Rollins and Baron Corbin for the Universal Championship in a failed attempt to cash-in the Money in the Bank contract. So that brings us to Crown Jewel 2019 one year later. Lesnar had just crushed Kofi Kingston's hopes and dreams and won the WWE Championship. He was then confronted by Rey Mysterio, who Lesnar had beat up along with Eddie Guerrero's his son Dominik. Mysterio didn't come alone, however, as he brought Cain Velasquez to WWE. Velasquez had only two professional wrestling matches under his belt, but the history between him and Lesnar went back to UFC, as Velasquez had ended Lesnar's 707-day reign as the UFC Heavyweight Champion and was the first person to defeat Lesnar in over two-years. The two were booked to face off for the WWE Championship at Crown Jewel.
The two feel each other out, with Velasquez landing some kicks to start. Lesnar forces Velasquez into the corner, where the two exchange strikes before Velasquez frees himself. Velasquez lands some more strikes, but Lesnar forces him back into the corner where the two brawl again. Velasquez lands a knee to the midsection followed by a kick to the head that floors Lesnar. Velasquez goes to the ground and pound, but Lesnar gains the advantage by kicking Velasquez's knee, allowing him to lock in the Kimura Lock for the submission win. Lesnar refuses to break the hold until Rey Mysterio runs in and attacks him with a chair. Lesnar initially fends him off and hits an F-5 on Velasquez, but Mysterio is able to chase him off with the chair, setting up their very fun match at Survivor Series.

The Verdict

So...what happened? Why did this hyped-up match get such a lackluster ending? Well, Velasquez had a legit knee injury that needed surgery, and WWE opted not to risk further damage, so the match was very short. So aside from that, how is the match? Not very good. Worked MMA is never fun to watch, just look back at AJ Styles vs Frank Trigg. This match isn't quite as bad as that one, but it's still pretty uneventful until the ending.

Match #4: Super ShowDown 2020

And this brings us to Super ShowDown 2020, the most recent Saudi show WWE has run. This match might be the worst and most infamous of the bunch. Already set to defend the WWE Championship against Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania 36, Lesnar had one more stop on that path, as he defended the title against Ricochet. Ricochet & Lesnar had crossed paths a few times leading up to this, as Lesnar gave Ricochet a low blow in the lead up to his domination at the Royal Rumble. That domination came to an end when Ricochet returned the favor, allowing McIntyre to eliminate him en route to his victory. Ricochet followed up with a #1 contender's triple threat victory to give him a shot at Lesnar at Super ShowDown. Now, Lesnar has had some of his best matches since returning to WWE with smaller guys like CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, AJ Styles, and Rey Mysterio. And against Ricochet, arguably the most athletically impressive man on the roster, this could've been a very exciting match. It wasn't.
Ricochet starts the match with an immediate dropkick, but Lesnar legitimately swats him away. Lesnar beats down Ricochet before suplexing him, following up with three German suplexes. Lesnar picks up Ricochet from the ground and throws him right into an F-5 for the three and the win. 94 seconds for a world title match. Just awful

The Verdict

What a pile of shit. Like with the Strowman match, this benefited no one. Lesnar was already established as a dominant beast. Just a month ago, WWE sacrificed half a Royal Rumble to establish that even further. Him beating a midcarder did absolutely nothing to help him. And Ricochet...poor, poor Ricochet. This was a burial, plain and simple. The man still has yet to recover from this, and he probably never will unless he leaves the company. It's not even that he lost, that was inevitable. It's that he could even get one solitary piece of offense in. Why? He's one of the most exciting guys on the roster and this is how you treat him? Terrible. This is going towards the bottom.

Worst in the World: The Gimmick Battle Royal-WrestleMania X-Seven

(Special thanks to Frost for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) WrestleMania X-Seven. Heavily considered the not just the best WrestleMania, but the greatest wrestling show of all time, WrestleMania X-Seven took place during the hottest period in the WWF's history, and features just about every one of the hottest acts in wrestling at the time. An undercard featuring the likes of Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, William Regal, Kane, and the Big Show. One of the biggest female stars in the history of wrestling in Chyna. A killer TLC match between the Dudley Boyz, the Hardy Boyz, and Edge & Christian. A wild brawl between The Undertaker and Triple H. A massive main event between Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock. Hell, even the father vs son Street Fight between Vince & Shane McMahon. It's a star-studded affair. However, there's one match that sticks out like

Worst in the World: The Last Rites Match-TNA Destination X 2007

(Special thanks to an anonymous user for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) An often discussed aspect of professional wrestling is the backstage politicking of Hulk Hogan. Throughout his career as a major attraction in wrestling, Hogan's philosophy has always been to protect Hulk Hogan...OK, sometimes he'd help Ed Leslie, but most of the time it was to protect Hulk Hogan. Because of that philosophy and Hogan's influence as a top guy, there have been multiple instances where a company's booking and other wrestlers have suffered as a result. Would having Mr. Perfect win the 1990 Royal Rumble made sense and could have elevated a rising star and potentially created a new main event player? Yes, but that would require Hogan to not win, and that doesn't work for Hogan, so he wins the Rumble even though he doesn't need elevating. Would booking Randy Orton to beat Hogan at SummerSlam 20

Worst in the World: D-Generation X vs Brothers of Destruction-Crown Jewel

This match didn't need to happen. After Triple H and the Undertaker had one of the most brutally bad matches of 2018 at Super Show-Down not even a month earlier, nobody wanted to see them try to wrestle again. Also, nobody wanted to see Shawn Michaels come out of retirement after his fantastic sendoff in 2010, especially for a match like this. But here we are, Triple H & Shawn Michaels facing The Undertaker & Kane in 2018. The combined ages of these four at the time is 206. That's a number you'd expect to see from a match at Heroes of Wrestling. And anyone can come up with their own reason as to why this match is happening, but that would just be ignoring the actual reason. For those of you who don't know, Crown Jewel was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. That might not seem like important information, but you can't really discuss this match without mentioning it. Despite the numerous reasons that running shows in Saudi Arabia is morally wrong (their abuse

Worst in the World: Nia Jax's Worst Matches

Click the link here to vote in the poll and help decide the next edition of the Worst in the World. Nia Jax's first run with the WWE can really only be described as hard to watch. Sure, she had a few stand-out matches, most notably (and surprisingly) her match with Ronda Rousey at Money in the Bank, and an underrated gem with Bayley at NXT TakeOver: London, but those were always outshined by her most infamous matches and moments. She's since returned to WWE and, for the most part, seems to have improved a bit, but the reputation she got from her initial run is gonna be hard to shake off. This week, I'll be looking at some of Jax's worst matches. These include just flat-out bad matches, and matches that have become infamous examples of her reckless in-ring work. Match #1: vs Charlotte Flair-April 10th, 2017 Raw The first match we'll be looking at is from the April 10, 2017 episode of Monday Night Raw, when Nia took on Charlotte Flair. The two had been on the losing e

Worst in the World: Carmella vs Asuka: How to Destroy an Aura

Throughout the entire history of the WWE, we've never seen, and probably will never see again, a woman booked as strong as Asuka was to start her run. Coming into WWE in 2015 with over a decade of experience wrestling in her native Japan as Kana, Asuka was immediately treated like a huge deal. Hell, even from the first time we saw her on a WWE broadcast, she was seated in the crowd of NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn next to two Hall of Famers in Ric Flair & Sgt. Slaughter. Officially debuting in October 2015, Asuka would go her entire NXT career, nearly two full years, without being pinned or submitted. She was booked so strong, in fact, that instead of dropping the NXT Women's Championship in what would be her last match in NXT at the time to Ember Moon (even after sustaining an injury), an act that is almost always the case for champions leaving NXT for the main roster, Asuka retained and later vacated the title, keeping her streak intact. For a company that is more than willing t
