Worst in the World: Akira Maeda vs Andre the Giant-NJPW Big Fighter Series 1986 (Day 15)

(Special thanks to Otter Empire for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) It's time to venture back into the wild world of pro-wrestling shoot fights; where wrestlers step into the ring for a scripted match, only for it to devolve into a real-life scrap, usually served up with a slice or two of good, old-fashioned beef. The last time I looked at a match-turned-fight, I covered the infamous bout between Antonio Inoki and the Great Antonio , in which the former strongman no-sold and stiffed Inoki, so Inoki responded by slapping & stomping him right out of the business. And today, I'll be taking a look at a match involving one of Inoki's New Japan counterparts, Akira Maeda. Trained in catch wrestling by the likes of Karl Gotch, Yoshiaki Fujiwara, and Inoki himself, Maeda was a legit fighter who would have no problem kicking ass if he needed to, something further exemplified by his 7-5 record...

Worst in the World: The Golden Truth vs Breezango-Money in the Bank 2016

Comedy wrestling is one of the more divisive topics in wrestling right now. I for one think that comedy matches have their place in professional wrestling. I can sit down and enjoy an Orange Cassidy match, I've already preached my love for things like the Broken Hardys in TNA and the Firefly Fun House match, and I can't lie, The Wee-LC match between Hornswoggle & El Torito was significantly more fun than it had any business being. However, the most important thing about comedy wrestling is...the comedy. Because just like in film and TV, comedy isn't something that can venture into "so bad it's good" territory like horror or drama. If comedy is bad...it's just bad. And there's been no shortage of bad comedy matches. I've covered quite a few of them in this series, and there will absolutely be...

(Special thanks to Frost for suggesting these matches. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) Vince Russo. What can you really say about Vince Russo that hasn't already been said thousands of times online before? He's the man who headed up the WWF's creative team during the most successful period in the company's history, but was also the head of WCW's creative team during their complete collapse. Some people see him as a creative genius that wrote some of the highest-rated segments in WWF history. Others see him as a terrible writer whose ideas led to the death of WCW. He's easily one of, if not the most polarizing figures in the history of professional wrestling. But even the most adamant Vince Russo supporters have to agree on one thing...Vince Russo should never have stepped foot in a wrestling ring. Vince Russo began appearing on screen for WCW in April 2000, and while Russo as an on-screen character...
