My Thoughts on RAW (12/26/16): A Sexy Pinata

  • We kick off the show with Stephanie McMahon. Stephanie says that she has given Mick Foley before the CM Punk chants break out. This leads to the greatest line I think she's ever dropped. "If you could keep that up for about 2 minutes and fifteen seconds, you'd last one-second longer than Punk did."
Damn...Seth Rollins comes out and says that Stephanie has taken away Triple H's manhood because she doesn't want him to fight Rollins. Stephanie says that Triple H is more of a champion than Rollins ever will be. Rollins changes topics and asks Stephanie for a match against Braun Strowman. Roman Reigns then comes out and says he wants a match with Strowman to. Rollins & Reigns argue over who should get to wrestle Strowman before agreeing to go find Strowman and beat him up. Stephanie gets a little to hyped up for a Shield reunion and drops the hint that Dean Ambrose could be showing up tonight...then immediately shuts it down. This is probably the best Stephanie's done on RAW in a long time. Stephanie announces that Rollins will face Strowman tonight and that Reigns will defend his United States Championship as well. She then announces that the first match of the show will be a title match.
  • Sheamus & Cesaro (c) vs The New Day-RAW Tag Team Championships-Sheamus & Cesaro makes no sense. What happened to them making up after that bar fight? Remember that? They got on the same page, but they're still doing things like interrupting each other's entrances and Sheamus is hogging the belts. Makes no sense. Also, those new tag title belts are actually pretty nice looking. Woods & Sheamus start off, with Woods quickly dropkicking Sheamus for a near fall. The New Day start off hot with lots of quick offense and maintains control when Cesaro tags in. The New Day perform the Unicorn Stampede on Cesaro before Woods hits a leg drop for a near fall. Cesaro knocks Woods down with a uppercut before Sheamus yanks Woods out of the ring from behind before the commercial break. We come back to Sheamus taking out Kofi, preventing Woods from making a tag. Sheamus & Cesaro hit a backbreaker/diving knee drop combo for a near fall before Woods tosses Cesaro out of the ring and hits a springboard tornado DDT on the outside. Kofi gets the hot tag and runs wild on Sheamus before taking Cesaro out with a tope. Kofi gets back in the ring, counters the Irish Curse backbreaker and hits the SOS for a near fall. Woods tags in and hits a springboard elbow drop on Sheamus, only for Cesaro to break up the pinfall. Cesaro tags in and swings Woods. Big E distracts the referee as Kofi tries to hit Trouble in Paradise, but Cesaro catches him and swings him before tossing him into Big E. Woods almost gets the roll up win, but Cesaro kicks out before Sheamus makes a blind tag. Woods goes for the Honor Roll, only to flip right into a Brogue Kick and gets pinned. Good match, pretty enjoyable.
  • Backstage, Braun Strowman walks through the halls before Kevin Owens & Chris Jericho. Jericho says he doesn't want to be on the list of Strowman...SQUASH EM' DOWN MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN! Owens offers Strowman a shot at his title after the Royal Rumble before he & Jericho tell him some things that Seth Rollins & Roman Reigns said about him. Strowman says
  • Backstage, Bayley gives Goldust a Christmas present...a little teddy bear with polka dots. She says she wouldn't be here today if it weren't for Goldust's dad. Bayley leaves before Gallows & Anderson walk up to the Golden Truth. Anderson takes it from Goldust and rips the head off of it.
  • Nia Jax vs Scarlett-Yep, it's Scarlett Bordeaux from Ring of Honor. Scarlett gets a pre-match interview, where she says Sasha Banks inspired her to get in the ring tonight. She's going to die. Nia squashes her after a Samoan Drop. Nia takes the mic and tells Scarlett to get a better role model before leg dropping her.
  • Backstage, Kevin Owens & Chris Jericho walk into Stephanie McMahon's office. They complain about the match at the Royal Rumble, where Owens will defend the Universal Championship against Roman Reigns with Jericho in a shark cage. Jericho says he was left hanging in the cage last week "like a sexy pinata." and suggests that either he or Owens face Reigns for the United States Championship tonight. Stephanie agrees and makes Owens the one to face Reigns.
  • Bayley's out for a promo. She says that Christmas came early for her when she pinned Charlotte last week and that she should be the #1 contender for the Women's Championship. This brings out Charlotte, who says that Bayley didn't beat her. She brings up the replay, showing that Charlotte's shoulder got up before the three count. She says she & her lawyers talked to Stephanie McMahon, and they got Bayley's win expunged. However, she decides to give Bayley a chance to beat her again right now with a referee of her choosing...Dana Brooke. Oh yeah, I forgot they were still buddies. WWE seems to go back and forth on whether or not they're going with this story.
  • Bayley vs Charlotte-Special Guest Referee Dana Brooke-The two go back and forth and we get the usual heel guest referee trope of Brooke slow counting for Charlotte. Bayley ends up giving her a Bayley-to-Belly and a real referee runs down. Bayley no sells getting her head rammed into the corner and rams Charlotte's head into the corner before hitting a top rope crossbody for a near fall. Charlotte blocks the Bayley-plex (that's what it's called in 2K17) and hits a backbreaker followed by a corner STO for a near fall. Charlotte goes for the Figure Eight, but Bayley counters and hits the Bayley-to-Belly. The referee goes to make the count, but Dana pulls him out because she is the referee. Bayley goes after Dana, but gets rolled up by Charlotte and Charlotte gets the win with her feet on the ropes.
  • Backstage, Stephanie McMahon stops Braun Strowman, who was attacking a guy backstage for not telling him where Sami Zayn was fast enough. Stephanie says she can't find Sami Zayn, but she guarantees Strowman will get a match with Zayn next week. Strowman says wants a Last Man Standing match against Zayn, so Stephanie agrees.
  • Neville vs TJ Perkins-No handshake before the match before the two go back and forth, ending with Perkins dropkicking Neville and hitting a running knee. Perkins kicks Neville out of the ring and hits a corkscrew plancha to the outside. Perkins goes to the top rope and hits a crossbody for a near fall before tying up Neville in the Tree of Woe. Perkins goes for a running dropkick, but Neville avoids and kicks Perkins in the face. On the outside, Neville throws Perkins into the barricade before taking the fight back to the ring. Neville works over Perkins with a headlock before Perkins fights out and dropkicks Neville from the ring. Perkins hits a wrecking ball dropkick before hitting a double chickenwing gutbuster for a near fall. The two trade strikes & kicks until Perkins catches a springboarding Neville and hits a Detonation Kick. Perkins goes for the kneebar, but Neville sits down on it and gets the three with a handful of tights for the win. Pretty good match. After the match, Charly Caruso interviews Neville. He says that now that he's winning and blasts the Americans for insulting his accent, personality, and appearance and for not appreciating him. He says he'll defeat Rich Swann tomorrow on 205 Live and that he's the king of the Cruiserweights. I'm really digging heel Neville, hope this what gets Neville over big time.
  • Big Cass & Enzo Amore in a wheelchair & wearing an Enzo Amore WWE Shop wig. are out for a promo. Enzo runs down Rusev & Jinder Mahal for attacking him last week before tossing the wig away. A fan catches it, so he puts it on. Cass takes the mic and challenges Rusev to a fight. Rusev & Lana come out, followed by Jinder Mahal. Jinder slaps Enzo before hopping up on the apron, only for Enzo to reveal he can walk and yanks him down. That makes sense, I mean people get put through tables all the time and they don't get crippled. Enzo & Cass beat up Rusev & Mahal, ending with Cass tossing Enzo onto Mahal, who was set up in the wheelchair. Ironically, it looks like Enzo might have actually hurt himself off that move.
  • The Shining Stars vs Darren Young & Bo Dallas with Bob Backlund-Young & Primo start off until BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUN! Braun Strowman comes out and destroys all four men, even no selling a chair shot from Epico before throwing Young into Bob Backlund and throwing the stairs into Primo, Epico, and Dallas. The crowd chants "Thank You Strowman" as we go to commercial before the next match.
  • Braun Strowman vs Seth Rollins-Strowman tosses Rollins across the ring before Rollins makes Strowman fall out of the ring. Rollins hits a suicide dive, only to bowled over when going for the second. Strowman beats down Rollins until Rollins hits an enziguri and hits two diving high knees. Rollins goes to the top rope, but Strowman catches him and rams him into the corner. Rollins boots Strowman away and hits a Blockbuster before going for the Pedigree. Strowman powers out and sends Rollins over the top rope and out of the ring. Strowman follows him out and bowls over Rollins before Sami Zayn's music hits. Zayn attacks Strowman from behind to cause a DQ before pushing him into the barricade. Zayn runs off as Strowman chases him off. After that, Jericho runs down and nails Rollins with a Codebreaker. Referee run down to help Rollins up, only for him to eat another Codebreaker.
  • Charly Caruso interviews Kevin Owens. Owens says he tuned out when she asked her question and that he's happy about what happened to Seth Rollins just now. He says he'll win the United States Championship for Team Kevin & Chris before leaving because Charly annoyed him.
  • Emmalina is STILL premiering soon.
  • The Golden Truth vs Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson-Goldust & Anderson start off with Goldust beating down Anderson. Truth tags in and hits a hip toss followed by a leg drop before Gallows tags in and hits a big boot. Gallows hits a roundhouse kick followed by an elbow drop before Anderson tags back in. Gallows & Anderson beat down Truth until Goldust gets the hot tag and runs wild. Then I looked away and Karl Anderson got a roll up win.
  • Rich Swann vs Ariya Daivari-Daivari rushes Swann to start, but Swann quickly takes control. Daivari comes back with a jumping neckbreaker and goes for the frog splash, but Swann dodges and hits a double stomp followed by a Rich Kick for a quick win. After the match, Swann says Neville is a royal sour puss before accepting Neville's challenge. Neville then attacks Swann from behind before throwing him into the barricade. Neville finishes the assault by hitting the Red Arrow.
  • Backstage, Daivari says the reason he lost was because he was concerned about Jack Gallagher's possible interference and calls him a scoundrel. Gallagher and walks up and challenges him to a gentlemen's duel. Gallagher takes out a black glove and slaps Daivari across the face.
  • Roman Reigns (c) vs Kevin Owens-United States Championship-After a feeling out process, Owens locks in a headlock before Reigns knocks him down. Owens rolls out of the ring, so Reigns follows him out and brings him back in and clotheslines him down. Chris Jericho's music hits and Jericho distracts Reigns long enough for Owens to hit a DDT for a near fall. Owens hits a senton for another near fall before the commercial break. We come back to see Owens continuing to beat down Reigns. Reigns comes back with clotheslines, but Owens keeps control and hits a Cannonball for a near fall. Owens goes back to the headlock until Reigns fights back to his feet and match goes to the outside. Owens throws Reigns into the barricade, only to get hit with a drive by dropkick. Back in the ring, Reigns hits a Samoan Drop for a near fall. Owens responds with a backstabber for a near fall before going for the Pop-Up Powerbomb. Reigns avoids it and the two trade strikes until Reigns powerbombs Owens for a near fall. Reigns goes for the Superman Punch, but Owens avoids it and gets a near fall off a roll up, after which Reigns connects with the Superman Punch. Reigns calls for the Spear, but Jericho distracts him long enough for Owens to hit a Codebreaker for a near fall. Seth Rollins runs down and Pedigrees Jericho before Owens eats a spear by Reigns. Reigns gets the win and retains the title. After the match, Rollins gives Owens a Pedigree after a crotch chop, followed by a spear to Jericho from Reigns.

Worst in the World: The Gimmick Battle Royal-WrestleMania X-Seven

(Special thanks to Frost for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) WrestleMania X-Seven. Heavily considered the not just the best WrestleMania, but the greatest wrestling show of all time, WrestleMania X-Seven took place during the hottest period in the WWF's history, and features just about every one of the hottest acts in wrestling at the time. An undercard featuring the likes of Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, William Regal, Kane, and the Big Show. One of the biggest female stars in the history of wrestling in Chyna. A killer TLC match between the Dudley Boyz, the Hardy Boyz, and Edge & Christian. A wild brawl between The Undertaker and Triple H. A massive main event between Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock. Hell, even the father vs son Street Fight between Vince & Shane McMahon. It's a star-studded affair. However, there's one match that sticks out like

Worst in the World: The Last Rites Match-TNA Destination X 2007

(Special thanks to an anonymous user for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) An often discussed aspect of professional wrestling is the backstage politicking of Hulk Hogan. Throughout his career as a major attraction in wrestling, Hogan's philosophy has always been to protect Hulk Hogan...OK, sometimes he'd help Ed Leslie, but most of the time it was to protect Hulk Hogan. Because of that philosophy and Hogan's influence as a top guy, there have been multiple instances where a company's booking and other wrestlers have suffered as a result. Would having Mr. Perfect win the 1990 Royal Rumble made sense and could have elevated a rising star and potentially created a new main event player? Yes, but that would require Hogan to not win, and that doesn't work for Hogan, so he wins the Rumble even though he doesn't need elevating. Would booking Randy Orton to beat Hogan at SummerSlam 20

Worst in the World: D-Generation X vs Brothers of Destruction-Crown Jewel

This match didn't need to happen. After Triple H and the Undertaker had one of the most brutally bad matches of 2018 at Super Show-Down not even a month earlier, nobody wanted to see them try to wrestle again. Also, nobody wanted to see Shawn Michaels come out of retirement after his fantastic sendoff in 2010, especially for a match like this. But here we are, Triple H & Shawn Michaels facing The Undertaker & Kane in 2018. The combined ages of these four at the time is 206. That's a number you'd expect to see from a match at Heroes of Wrestling. And anyone can come up with their own reason as to why this match is happening, but that would just be ignoring the actual reason. For those of you who don't know, Crown Jewel was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. That might not seem like important information, but you can't really discuss this match without mentioning it. Despite the numerous reasons that running shows in Saudi Arabia is morally wrong (their abuse

Worst in the World: What is the Worst Wrestling Match of All Time?

Note: This series is based off a YouTube series " The Search for the Worst " by I Hate Everything, where he reviews every movie on IMDB's Bottom 100. It's a great, funny series and I'd recommend checking it out. Have you ever just thought to yourself "What is the worst match of all time?"? I don't mean something like a boring John Cena-Randy Orton match, I mean a match where the wrestlers have zero chemistry, little wrestling ability, or literally no idea what they are actually doing. I've thought about this for a while, and I've decided to finally figure it out. So I'm going to watch any match that is: a) A winner of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Award for the Worst Worked Match of the Year. or:  b) Listed on the 100 worst rated wrestling matches of all time on the Internet Wrestling Database .   (Note: Some matches appear on awards that aren't on the list.) There are 115 (EDIT: Now 99)  matches on here. I pu

Worst in the World: Trash at the Beach

Click the link here to vote in the poll and help decide the next edition of the Worst in the World. Just over a month ago, I briefly covered the massive success the WWF was having in 1999. Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock are at the top of the card. Triple H is on the rise to the main event. Mankind is playing the ultimate likable & respected babyface. Names like the Undertaker, Kane, and the Big Show are all major players. The undercard is stacked with big names like D-Generation X, D'Lo Brown, and Ken Shamrock, rising stars like The Hardy Boyz and Edge & Christian, and new signings like Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho, and the Dudley Boyz. The WWF was so red hot in 1999 that even an all-time bad WrestleMania in WrestleMania XV couldn't slow them down. But there was one other factor that made 1999 such a good year for the WWF; the fact that their main competitor, WCW, was beginning to crack. At the same time the WWF was reaching the highest heights they'd ever reache
