My (Extra-Spooky) Thoughts on RAW (10/31/16): 2RAW4Me

  • We kicked off the show with Goldberg. Then Paul Heyman came out. I missed the majority of this segment, my cable went out, but I'm assuming Heyman said nice things about Brock Lesnar and Goldberg said stuff about Lesnar being next. Rusev came out and tried to fight Goldberg. He failed and ate a Jackhammer before Heyman took a spear.
  • Luke Gallows vs Enzo Amore in a "Trick or Street Fight"-The two quickly go to the outside, where Enzo beats Gallows with a skeleton and dunks his head in a bucket of apples before the commercial break. We come back to Gallows crotching himself on the barricade. Gallows quickly takes control again and shoves pumpkin insides in Enzo's face. Back in the ring, Gallows beats on Enzo with a kendo stick and a plastic fence. Enzo avoids one shot and starts throwing pumpkins at Enzo until Gallows hits him again. Enzo runs wild before throwing a pie in Anderson's face. Cass boots Anderson off the apron through a table before Enzo low blows Gallows. Cass shoves a pumpkin on Gallows head, which, if you look closely, you can see the exact moment where Gallows thinks to himself "We should have just stayed in Japan." Enzo hits the DDG for the win.
  • So how do you follow up a goofy-ass match like that? With Paul Heyman being taken to the hospital because he got speared. Conflicting tones, to say the least.
  • Brian Kendrick (c) vs TJ Perkins-Cruiserweight Championship-Pre-match, Kendrick says that nice guys always finish last. He says he doesn't need anybody to let him win and him begging Perkins to let him win was all mind games. Perkins blindsides Kendrick to start and quickly hits a Detonation Kick for a near fall before the commercial break. We come back to Perkins dropkicking Kendrick. Perkins hits a wheelbarrow bulldog followed by a springboard dropkick and a double chickenwing gutbuster for a near fall. He locks in the kneebar, but Kendrick gets a rope break. Perkins goes to the top rope and hits a diving hurricanrana, where Perkins lands head first on the apron. Jesus Christ, it looked nasty. Perkins beats the count, but Kendrick intentionally gets counted out to retain his title. Fine little match, nothing special. Perkins attacks him afterward and locks in the kneebar on the outside.
  • Backstage, Mick Foley is taking credit for Negan's barbwire bat before Braun Strowman walks up. He says he wants to be on Team RAW at Survivor Series. He tells him to give him what he wants or he'll take out half the RAW roster. Foley says he can't give him it just because he made a threat, but puts him in a battle royale tonight for a spot on Team RAW.
  • Outcomes Foley to address the controversy in the Universal Championship match last night. Before he gets to the point, Kevin Owens & Chris Jericho come out. Owens says Foley's issue is that Owens stole the show and became the first man to successfully defend the Universal Championship in Hell in a Cell. Jericho he & Owens should be leading Team RAW. Foley says he does need them, and Owens says that fact is killing him. Owens says Foley is jealous because Owens has actually won inside Hell in a Cell. Foley says his issue is that Owens can win on his own, but chose not to. Foley also says that Stephanie McMahon was pissed that Jericho interfered and didn't want Jericho on Team RAW, but Foley convinced her otherwise. Foley also says he needed not just another guy, he need...ugh...the guy. Roman Reigns comes out and thanks Foley for the vote of confidence as the fans chant "Roman Sucks." Reigns makes an awful Spongebob joke and a joke about Jericho being a stupid idiot. Jericho teases putting Reigns on the List of Jericho but says Reigns isn't worthy of being on the list. He says he'd be a better United States Champion than Reigns and says he'd take the belt tonight if he wanted to. Reigns says he's up for it, so Foley books it for tonight.
  • Battle Royal for a spot on Team RAW-Darren Young is dressed as Bob Backlund for Halloween. I thought that was funny. Strowman quickly eliminates R-Truth & Bo Dallas before a bunch of people spam finishers on him, ending with Sheamus Brogue Kicking him through the second rope, meaning he's still in the match. Cesaro eliminates Jinder Mahal before he teams up with Sheamus to eliminate Darren Young. Strowman comes back and eliminates Curtis Axel. Titus O'Neil & Goldust get tossed out before Cesaro tosses Sheamus out. Strowman then tosses Cesaro out, followed by Neville, leaving only him and Sami Zayn. Zayn tries but fails to knock Strowman off his feet before Strowman mows through him. Strowman tries to throw him out, but Zayn tries to pull him out via the Benoit-Royal Rumble 2004 spot. He can't, and Strowman eliminates him.
  • Emmalina is still premiering soon.
  • Backstage, Big E is dressed as Kama Mustafa, Xavier Woods is dressed as Papa Shango, and Kofi Kingston is dressed as the Godfather. Kofi says they are the captains of the Team RAW's Tag Team...Team before mocking the SmackDown tag teams (except American Alpha, who Woods says he can't think of anything bad to say about them)
  • Rich Swann, Lince Dorado, and Cedric Alexander vs Drew Gulak, Tony Nese, and Ariya Daivari-Dorado & Daivari start with Dorado hitting a springboard crossbody and a spinning heel kick. Swann tags in before quickly tagging in Alexander. Daivari forces Alexander back to his team's corner, but Alexander runs through Gulak & Nese until a distraction allows Nese to send Alexander to the outside and wheelbarrow slam him into the barricade. The heels continue to beat down Alexander until he back body drops Gulak. Swann gets the hot tag and runs wild on Nese, hitting a rolling thunder splash, but the other heels break up the pinfall. Alexander & Dorado take out Gulak & Daivari with dives before Swann hits the Rich Kick for the win. Fine match, nothing special. Just a lot of quick, exciting spots.
  • Outcomes Charlotte. She says she made history by herself last night by winning the first ever women's Hell in a Cell match. She then goes onto to warn Nikki Bella to not get in her way at Survivor Series or she'll put her on the shelf like she did last year. She then runs down the rest of the women on SmackDown's roster before saying that Bayley is the weak link of Team RAW. She tells Bayley to come out, so she does. Bayley puts over Charlotte & Sasha Banks for main eventing a WWE pay-per-view before congratulating Charlotte on winning the title. Charlotte puts her down by saying she's actually achieving what Bayley is dreaming. Bayley says Charlotte has become a jerk and says she'd never be a champion like her. Charlotte calls her a glorified fan and calls Bayley the weakest link again. Bayley says everyone is tired of hearing Charlotte talk, so Charlotte has her face Nia Jax tonight. Jesus, where the hell has she been? It feels like she's been gone for a while.
  • Bayley vs Nia Jax-Nia out muscles Bayley at the beginning of the match, eventually hitting a shoulder breaker. Nia batters Bayley for the majority of the match before locking in a bear hug. Bayley counters and locks in a guillotine and lands on her feet off a suplex. Bayley gets Nia off her feet after a few dropkicks and a bulldog, but Nia comes back and tries to hit a second rope splash. Bayley springs up and goes for a Belly-to-Bayley, but Nia blocks it and throws Bayley over the top rope. Nia gets Bayley back in the ring and hits a Samoan Drop for the win. Good match, told a good story.
  • Sheamus & Cesaro vs The Shining Stars-Primo almost gets a flash pin on Sheamus before Sheamus hits a rolling senton followed by a double stomp by Cesaro. Cesaro goes for the Cesaro Swing on Primo, but Primo avoids and eventually takes control. The Shining Stars double team Cesaro. Eventually, Sheamus gets the hot tag and submits Epico with the Cloverleaf.
  • The Golden Truth go to a haunted house. That is all.
  • Backstage, Chris Jericho talks about his match with Roman Reigns tonight. Owens says Jericho will win the United States Championship and take it back to Canada.
  • Roman Reigns (c) vs Chris Jericho-United States Championship-Reigns dominates to start until Jericho hits a dropkick. Jericho goes to the top rope and hits a diving crossbody for a near fall, but Reigns comes back with a straight right hand. Reigns clotheslines Jericho to the outside and beats him down until Owens throws him into the ring post before the commercial break. We come back to Jericho working over Reigns. Reigns counters a bulldog attempt and throws Jericho into the corner before running wild. Reigns hits the ten clotheslines in the corner before hitting a big boot for a near fall. Reigns catches Jericho off a flying nothing with a punch and hits the drive by kick before hitting a Samoan drop for a near fall. Reigns wanks his fist and calls for the Superman Punch, but Jericho dodges. Reigns avoids the Walls of Jericho and gets his knees up for the Lionsault. Reigns wanks his fist again, but Jericho avoids the Superman Punch again. Reigns blocks the Codebreaker, but Jericho is able to lock in the Walls of Jericho. Reigns fights out and is able to hit a sit out powerbomb for a near fall. Reigns calls for the Spear, but Owens distracts him, allowing Jericho to dump Reigns over the top rope, only to eat a Superman Punch from the apron. Reigns hits the spear, but Owens runs in and causes a DQ. Jeri-KO hits the Pop-Up Codebreaker on Reigns, only for Seth Rollins to run out. He takes out Owens with two suicide dives and Jericho with a diving knee before superkicking Jericho. He goes for the Pedigree, but Owens pulls Jericho to safety. Rollins & Reigns stare eachother down to end the show.

Worst in the World: The Last Rites Match-TNA Destination X 2007

(Special thanks to an anonymous user for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) An often discussed aspect of professional wrestling is the backstage politicking of Hulk Hogan. Throughout his career as a major attraction in wrestling, Hogan's philosophy has always been to protect Hulk Hogan...OK, sometimes he'd help Ed Leslie, but most of the time it was to protect Hulk Hogan. Because of that philosophy and Hogan's influence as a top guy, there have been multiple instances where a company's booking and other wrestlers have suffered as a result. Would having Mr. Perfect win the 1990 Royal Rumble made sense and could have elevated a rising star and potentially created a new main event player? Yes, but that would require Hogan to not win, and that doesn't work for Hogan, so he wins the Rumble even though he doesn't need elevating. Would booking Randy Orton to beat Hogan at SummerSlam 20

Worst in the World: The Gimmick Battle Royal-WrestleMania X-Seven

(Special thanks to Frost for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) WrestleMania X-Seven. Heavily considered the not just the best WrestleMania, but the greatest wrestling show of all time, WrestleMania X-Seven took place during the hottest period in the WWF's history, and features just about every one of the hottest acts in wrestling at the time. An undercard featuring the likes of Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, William Regal, Kane, and the Big Show. One of the biggest female stars in the history of wrestling in Chyna. A killer TLC match between the Dudley Boyz, the Hardy Boyz, and Edge & Christian. A wild brawl between The Undertaker and Triple H. A massive main event between Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock. Hell, even the father vs son Street Fight between Vince & Shane McMahon. It's a star-studded affair. However, there's one match that sticks out like

Worst in the World: D-Generation X vs Brothers of Destruction-Crown Jewel

This match didn't need to happen. After Triple H and the Undertaker had one of the most brutally bad matches of 2018 at Super Show-Down not even a month earlier, nobody wanted to see them try to wrestle again. Also, nobody wanted to see Shawn Michaels come out of retirement after his fantastic sendoff in 2010, especially for a match like this. But here we are, Triple H & Shawn Michaels facing The Undertaker & Kane in 2018. The combined ages of these four at the time is 206. That's a number you'd expect to see from a match at Heroes of Wrestling. And anyone can come up with their own reason as to why this match is happening, but that would just be ignoring the actual reason. For those of you who don't know, Crown Jewel was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. That might not seem like important information, but you can't really discuss this match without mentioning it. Despite the numerous reasons that running shows in Saudi Arabia is morally wrong (their abuse

Worst in the World: Nia Jax's Worst Matches

Click the link here to vote in the poll and help decide the next edition of the Worst in the World. Nia Jax's first run with the WWE can really only be described as hard to watch. Sure, she had a few stand-out matches, most notably (and surprisingly) her match with Ronda Rousey at Money in the Bank, and an underrated gem with Bayley at NXT TakeOver: London, but those were always outshined by her most infamous matches and moments. She's since returned to WWE and, for the most part, seems to have improved a bit, but the reputation she got from her initial run is gonna be hard to shake off. This week, I'll be looking at some of Jax's worst matches. These include just flat-out bad matches, and matches that have become infamous examples of her reckless in-ring work. Match #1: vs Charlotte Flair-April 10th, 2017 Raw The first match we'll be looking at is from the April 10, 2017 episode of Monday Night Raw, when Nia took on Charlotte Flair. The two had been on the losing e

Worst in the World: Carmella vs Asuka: How to Destroy an Aura

Throughout the entire history of the WWE, we've never seen, and probably will never see again, a woman booked as strong as Asuka was to start her run. Coming into WWE in 2015 with over a decade of experience wrestling in her native Japan as Kana, Asuka was immediately treated like a huge deal. Hell, even from the first time we saw her on a WWE broadcast, she was seated in the crowd of NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn next to two Hall of Famers in Ric Flair & Sgt. Slaughter. Officially debuting in October 2015, Asuka would go her entire NXT career, nearly two full years, without being pinned or submitted. She was booked so strong, in fact, that instead of dropping the NXT Women's Championship in what would be her last match in NXT at the time to Ember Moon (even after sustaining an injury), an act that is almost always the case for champions leaving NXT for the main roster, Asuka retained and later vacated the title, keeping her streak intact. For a company that is more than willing t
