RAW vs Nitro #2 (9/18/95)

Welcome back to RAW vs Nitro! Last time, Nitro got the win from me. Let's see if the same happens this time. This is RAW vs Nitro #2!

RAW

  • 1-2-3 Kid vs Razor Ramon-We kick off with the match that got set up last week between Razor Ramon & the 1-2-3 Kid. Heelishly, the 1-2-3 Kid rushes Razor as he gets in the ring, kicking him a bunch before kicking Razor out of the ring. Razor re-enters the ring, catches 1-2-3 Kid off a crossbody attempt, taking him to the top rope, and hitting a top rope fallaway slam for a near fall. Razor manhandles the Kid before punching him straight out of the ring. The Kid goes for a tilt-a-whirl arm drag, but Razor blocks it and hits a chokeslam for a near fall. The Kid manages to send Razor out of the ring and hits a slingshot dropkick to the outside. The Kid hits a heel kick back in the ring but hooks Razor's foot on the rope while making the pin. The Kid locks in a sleeper hold, and Razor eventually fights out and hits a side suplex. Razor rolls through the Kid before accidentally shoving the Kid into the referee. That's the second week in a row where a Razor Ramon match had a ref bump. And just like last week, outcomes Dean Douglas, who hits a splash on Razor. The Kid & the referee both crawl back into the ring and the Kid makes the cover for the win. Fine little match, nothing special.
  • We get a "Report Card" segment with Dean Douglas. Douglas gives the 1-2-3 Kid a D for dumb for thinking he actually beat Razor Ramon tonight. He also gives Razor an E for elevate, because that's what he's trying to do by going up against Dean Douglas. Finally, he gives himself an A and says he'll beat Razor at In Your House.
  • Tatanka & Kama Mustafa with Ted Dibiase vs Savio Vega & Bob Holly-Oh boy, it's Sparky Plug! Bob Holly's terrible gimmick before he became Hardcore Holly. Vega & Tatanka kick off, with Vega hitting a hip toss & a dropkick. Kama runs in, only to get a hip toss & a dropkick of his own. Kama & Holly tag in and the two go back and forth before Holly hits two arm drags. Vega tags in, but Kama takes control with a forearm and brings him back to the Million Dollar Corporation's corner. Tatanka tags in and dodges a roundhouse kick before leaving the ring. He wanders over to Holly and the two start arguing, with the referee leaving the ring to stop them for some reason. This allows Kama to blindside and beat down Vega. Holly returns to the ring and starts beating down Kama before the referee makes him go back to his corner. This distraction allows both Tatanka & Kama to beat down Vega, hitting a double gut-wrench slam. Tatanka baits Holly into distracting the referee again, allowing the heels to do more double teaming. Kama tags in and does the same thing, allowing more double teaming as the commentators rail on Holly for being a dumbass. After a double clothesline spot, Holly gets the hot tag and runs wild on Kama. Holly hits a missile dropkick and makes the cover, but Tatanka breaks it up. Vega & Tatanka fight to the outside before Kama catches a diving Holly for a sloppy looking power slam for the win. Lame match, not very exciting.
  • We get a backstage promo from Razor Ramon. He says he's going to carve Dean Douglas up at In Your House.
  • Jean Pierre LaFitte vs Brian Walsh-Jean Pierre LaFitte is a pirate. That is all. During the match, they have Bret Hart on the phone. He says he takes pride in his fans and he doesn't like that LaFitte has stolen stuff from Hart's fans. LaFitte dominates the match and finishes off Walsh with a senton bomb called the Cannonball.
  • Men on a Mission vs Yokozuna & Owen Hart with Jim Cornette & Mr. Fuji-Hart & Mo start with Mo hitting an uppercut. Hart stops a charging Mo with his feet and clothesline Mo but gets caught with a powerslam. Mo tags in Mabel and Mabel slams Hart. Hart dodges a corner splash, but Mabel pushes him off when he goes for the 10 punches in the corner. Men on a Mission continue to beat down Hart until he tosses Mo over the top rope and tags in Yokozuna. He calls for Mabel to get in the ring, but the referee stops Mabel because Mo is still the legal man. Yokozuna proceeds to beat down Mo before a commercial break. We come back to both Hart & Mo trying for a spinning heel kick at the same time. Yokozuna & Mabel both tag in and brawl before Mabel takes Yokozuna down with a jumping clothesline. Mabel gorilla press slams Hart and throws him onto Yokozuna before calling for Mo. However, Hart blindsides Mo, allowing his team to take advantage. Hart hits a missile dropkick for a near fall followed by a neckbreaker before going to the top rope. Mo meets him up there and hits a superplex, but Yokozuna breaks up the pin. Yokozuna boots Mabel the ring before Hart locks in a drop toe hold on Mo, allowing Yokozuna to hit a leg drop for the win. Boring match, not much to talk about.
  • We get a backstage promo from Shawn Michaels & Diesel. Michaels says Hart & Cornette have been spreading lies and that he & Diesel will become Tag Team Champions at In Your House. Diesel talks about returning to his hometown for In Your House and says he & Michaels are going to win the titles.
  • Back in the ring, Vince McMahon interviews Camp Cornette. Jim Cornette hypes up the triple header at In Your House before running down Michaels & Diesel for breaking up the last time they were a tag time. He says Hart & Yokozuna are a better team than Michaels & Diesel and implies that Michaels or Diesel will save their own title over their partner's. Hart & Yokozuna will still be champions after In Your House and one of them will be either the Intercontinental Champion or WWF Champion.
That's it for RAW! Onto Nitro!
But first, a little recap of Fall Brawl 1995 that would happen the night before this episode took place.
  • Johnny B. Bad defeated Brian Pillman to become the #1 contender to the United States Championship
  • Diamond Dallas Page defeated the Ultimate Warrior rip-off The Renegade for the Television Championship
  • Harlem Heat defeated Bunkhouse Buck & Dick Slater for the Tag Team Championships
  • Arn Anderson defeated Ric Flair after a distraction from Brian Pillman
  • And finally, Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Sting, and Lex Luger defeated the Dungeon of Doom in a WarGames match after Hogan submitted the Zodiac with a lazy camel clutch (aka, the Steiner Recliner). As a result of winning, Hogan got five minutes in the cage with Kevin Sullivan, but some interrupted the beat down. Who was it, you might ask...WELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL IT'S THE BIG SHOW! Yes, the Giant, aka the Big Show entered the cage and snapped Hogan's neck.
Now onto Nitro

Nitro

  • Before the show starts, Mongo drops a legendary line: "Get Grandma out of the bathroom, because if you ain't here, you're getting a bum steer." WOW! I don't even know what to say to that.
  • We then go to the back where Kevin Sullivan & The Giant pop out of an ambulance. Sullivan calls Giant the one true immortal before Giant says he's made Hulk Hogan melt like putty in his hands three times now before saying that he is the one true immortal. Mean Gene says the Giant's father Andre the Giant would be disappointed by what the Giant is doing, but the Giant says Andre would be by his side fighting against Hogan if he were alive.
  • The American Males vs The Blue Bloods-AMERICAN MALES. AMERICAN MALES. AMERICAN MALES. AMERICAN MALES. The American Males, Marcus Alexander Bagwell (the future Buff Bagwell) and Scotty Riggs, accompanied by their hilariously bad entrance music take on the Blue Bloods, Steven Regal & Bobby Eaton...except NOPE! Harlem Heat, Booker T & Stevie Ray, ambush the Blue Bloods at the entrance way. Booker grabs the mic and says the Blue Bloods shouldn't have been there in the first place. He says that Harlem Heat are the Tag Team Champions and they're going to prove it by giving the American Males a title match right now. Why would they do that? Why would they put their titles on the line when they don't have to? Stupid idiots...Also, Mongo said "Get Grandma out of the bathroom" again when the American Males came out. What is this company even?
  • Harlem Heat (c) with Sister Sherri vs The American Males for the Tag Team Championships-The two teams brawl to start before they just kind of stop. Ray & Riggs start off in the ring before the Males hit a double dropkick. Bagwell tags in, only to eat a sidewalk slam. Booker tags in, takes Bagwell down with a shoulder tackle, and catches Bagwell off a leapfrog for a power slam. Bagwell dodges a leg drop and tags in Riggs, but after a kick to the back from Ray, Booker hits the scissor kick. If you want to know who the worker of Harlem Heat is, just watch how boring the match gets when Stevie Ray tags in compared to when Booker T is in. Booker hits a big wheel kick for a near fall before Harlem Heat continues to work over Riggs. Riggs is able to avoid a corner splash from Booker and Bagwell gets the hot tag. Bagwell runs wild on both members of Harlem Heat before Ray bats away a dropkick. Sherri hops up on the ring apron to hit Bagwell, but outcomes the slightly racist gimmick Col. Rob Parker. He sweeps Sherri off her feet and carries her to the back. That probably needs some more explanation. Despite their tag teams feuding, these two are in a relationship. With Sherri gone, Booker tries for a pumphandle slam, but Bagwell counters it and turns it into a crossbody for the win! New Tag Team Champions the American Males! Fine little match, nothing special.
  • Mean Gene brings out Ric Flair for an interview. Flair says Arn Anderson broke the code by bringing Brian Pillman into their feud. He says he'll chop Brian Pillman so hard tonight that Boomer Esiason will feel it Long Island and that he'll find Anderson and kick his ass.
  • Paul Orndorff vs Johnny B Badd-Oh my God, Orndorff's entrance music...incredible. Or should I say...WONDERFUL! What might be even better though is the segment that Orndorff had where he re-became Mr. Wonderful. After a loss to Randy Savage on WCW Worldwide, Orndorff was beating himself up backstage until he was approached by GARY SPIVEY!? OF THE PYSHIC COMPANIONS NETWORK?! Spivey told him that people call him Mr. Wonderul, and he knows he's wonderful too. They also repeat everything like three times. It's great, you have to watch it. Anyways, onto the actual match. Orndorff starts off with a dropkick to Badd's knee and beats down on Badd in the corner. Badd comes back with a hip toss and a powerslam followed by a double ax handle, but Orndorff gets his feet up and counters before the commercial break. We come back to Badd dodging a top rope splash from Orndorff. Badd punches Orndorff out of the ring, where Orndorff checks himself in his little mirror. Amazing. Badd does a sh*tty 619-fake out before hitting a slingshot crossbody. Back in the ring, Badd hits a double ax handle for a near fall before escaping a piledriver attempt. Badd hits two piledrivers and goes for a piledriver of his own. Orndorff flips Badd over his head and sits down on the roll up attempt for the win. Another fine little match, nothing special though. Bonus points though for playing Orndorff's entrance music. But I will say, it makes no sense to have Badd lose the night after becoming #1 Contender to a title. Stupid idiots...
  • On the set of Baywatch (no seriously), Randy Savage is lifting weights before being attacked by Kevin Sullivan in a track suit. At the beach. Sullivan chokes him with the weights and throws sand in his face before being pulled off by Ric Flair in full ring gear. At the beach.
  • Mean Gene brings out Randy Savage for an interview. He says he'll destroy Kevin Sullivan himself and says nobody is stronger than Hulk Hogan. He still thinks that Lex Luger is a bad guy after he got hit by Luger during WarGames at Fall Brawl. Mean Gene says a lot of people said Luger's shot was accidental, but Savage doesn't buy it. He also adds that the Dungeon of Doom might have three new members; Luger, Sting, and Jimmy Hart. He is two-thirds right. Luger runs down and says Savage is jealous of Luger and says Savage secretly wants to be WCW World Heavyweight Champion. Savage says he does want to be WCW World Heavyweight Champion. Luger says he's in WCW to play with the big boys, so Savage challenges him to a match. Luger & Savage stare eachother down before a commercial break.
  • We get a replay of another hilarious segment from Fall Brawl. Hulk Hogan is being interviewed by Mean Gene on his motorcycle when the Giant shows up...WITH A MONSTER TRUCK! He runs over Hogan's motorcycle before Hogan yells at him.
  • Brian Pillman vs Ric Flair-Despite being a full-on heel now and arguing with fans, Pillman still comes out to his very babyface entrance music "Blondes Have More Fun". Not very fitting. Flair comes down to the ring all serious, no grandstanding in his entrance. Flair takes control early on, chopping Pillman around the ring before tossing him out of the ring. Flair takes it to Pillman on the outside, diving from the top rope for a double ax handle and goes back to chops. Back in the ring, Pillman pulls Flair down onto the ropes, but Flair keeps control with a clothesline. Flair goes to the top rope, but Pillman catches him with a dropkick. Pillman makes the cover with his feet on the ropes, but the referee catches him. Pillman takes Flair out of the ring and the two brawl at ringside, with Flair dropping Pillman face first on the guard rail. Pillman goes for a sunset flip back in the ring, but Flair blocks it and punches Pillman. Flair goes to the top rope again, but Pillman meets him there and throws him down. Pillman goes to the top rope, but Flair dodges a splash and goes for a figure-four. Pillman school boys Flair for a near fall they both go down on a double shoulder tackle. The two exchange chops before Flair hits a side suplex and locks in the figure-four for the submission win. Good match, best of the show. After the match, Flair says that next Monday he'll kick Arn Anderson's ass.
And that's about it. Once again I'm giving the win to Nitro. The matches were more exciting and there were a lot of funny/laughably bad moments, unlike RAW, which felt pretty bland. Give the point to Nitro.

Worst in the World: The Last Rites Match-TNA Destination X 2007

(Special thanks to an anonymous user for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) An often discussed aspect of professional wrestling is the backstage politicking of Hulk Hogan. Throughout his career as a major attraction in wrestling, Hogan's philosophy has always been to protect Hulk Hogan...OK, sometimes he'd help Ed Leslie, but most of the time it was to protect Hulk Hogan. Because of that philosophy and Hogan's influence as a top guy, there have been multiple instances where a company's booking and other wrestlers have suffered as a result. Would having Mr. Perfect win the 1990 Royal Rumble made sense and could have elevated a rising star and potentially created a new main event player? Yes, but that would require Hogan to not win, and that doesn't work for Hogan, so he wins the Rumble even though he doesn't need elevating. Would booking Randy Orton to beat Hogan at SummerSlam 20

Worst in the World: The Gimmick Battle Royal-WrestleMania X-Seven

(Special thanks to Frost for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) WrestleMania X-Seven. Heavily considered the not just the best WrestleMania, but the greatest wrestling show of all time, WrestleMania X-Seven took place during the hottest period in the WWF's history, and features just about every one of the hottest acts in wrestling at the time. An undercard featuring the likes of Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, William Regal, Kane, and the Big Show. One of the biggest female stars in the history of wrestling in Chyna. A killer TLC match between the Dudley Boyz, the Hardy Boyz, and Edge & Christian. A wild brawl between The Undertaker and Triple H. A massive main event between Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock. Hell, even the father vs son Street Fight between Vince & Shane McMahon. It's a star-studded affair. However, there's one match that sticks out like

Worst in the World: D-Generation X vs Brothers of Destruction-Crown Jewel

This match didn't need to happen. After Triple H and the Undertaker had one of the most brutally bad matches of 2018 at Super Show-Down not even a month earlier, nobody wanted to see them try to wrestle again. Also, nobody wanted to see Shawn Michaels come out of retirement after his fantastic sendoff in 2010, especially for a match like this. But here we are, Triple H & Shawn Michaels facing The Undertaker & Kane in 2018. The combined ages of these four at the time is 206. That's a number you'd expect to see from a match at Heroes of Wrestling. And anyone can come up with their own reason as to why this match is happening, but that would just be ignoring the actual reason. For those of you who don't know, Crown Jewel was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. That might not seem like important information, but you can't really discuss this match without mentioning it. Despite the numerous reasons that running shows in Saudi Arabia is morally wrong (their abuse

Worst in the World: Nia Jax's Worst Matches

Click the link here to vote in the poll and help decide the next edition of the Worst in the World. Nia Jax's first run with the WWE can really only be described as hard to watch. Sure, she had a few stand-out matches, most notably (and surprisingly) her match with Ronda Rousey at Money in the Bank, and an underrated gem with Bayley at NXT TakeOver: London, but those were always outshined by her most infamous matches and moments. She's since returned to WWE and, for the most part, seems to have improved a bit, but the reputation she got from her initial run is gonna be hard to shake off. This week, I'll be looking at some of Jax's worst matches. These include just flat-out bad matches, and matches that have become infamous examples of her reckless in-ring work. Match #1: vs Charlotte Flair-April 10th, 2017 Raw The first match we'll be looking at is from the April 10, 2017 episode of Monday Night Raw, when Nia took on Charlotte Flair. The two had been on the losing e

Worst in the World: Carmella vs Asuka: How to Destroy an Aura

Throughout the entire history of the WWE, we've never seen, and probably will never see again, a woman booked as strong as Asuka was to start her run. Coming into WWE in 2015 with over a decade of experience wrestling in her native Japan as Kana, Asuka was immediately treated like a huge deal. Hell, even from the first time we saw her on a WWE broadcast, she was seated in the crowd of NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn next to two Hall of Famers in Ric Flair & Sgt. Slaughter. Officially debuting in October 2015, Asuka would go her entire NXT career, nearly two full years, without being pinned or submitted. She was booked so strong, in fact, that instead of dropping the NXT Women's Championship in what would be her last match in NXT at the time to Ember Moon (even after sustaining an injury), an act that is almost always the case for champions leaving NXT for the main roster, Asuka retained and later vacated the title, keeping her streak intact. For a company that is more than willing t
