My Thoughts on RAW (4/24/17): Garbage Day!

  • We kick off the show with Chris Jericho's Highlight Reel. Jericho says this will be the last Highlight Reel on Monday Night RAW after he beats Kevin Owens for the United States Championship and moves to SmackDown LIVE. He says no matter where he is, the Friends of Jericho will cheer him on, man. He says he got the best guest he could for the final Highlight Reel on RAW...himself! He says he'll get his revenge on Owens and calls him the hemorrhoid of America before the Miz & Maryse come out. He says RAW is no longer Jericho and RAW is all about them, the It Couple. Jericho tells them to watch...............................................IT, couple! Miz says the Highlight Reel has been canceled and has been replaced by MizTV. Miz gets the crew to change the set and raise the JeriTron 6000. Before the Miz can start, Dean Ambrose comes out. He says Jericho is right; the Miz is a stupid idiot. Miz says Jericho never called him that, but Jericho says he was thinking it. Ambrose says you can't just take over someone else's talk show...and then proceeds to take over the talk show. He gets the crew to set up the Ambrose Asylum. Ambrose says he's rooting for Jericho at Payback despite their differences in the past and gives him a gift...a new light up jacket!
Well, it's really just a sport coat with Christmas tree lights, but it's the thought that counts. Miz calls the jacket hideous and says Ambrose devalues the Intercontinental Championship by holding it. Miz says he should be receiving gifts from the entire roster, so Ambrose gives him something...Dirty Deeds. Jericho then puts Maryse on the List of Jericho.
  • Sheamus with Cesaro vs Matt Hardy with Jeff Hardy-Hardy almost gets a quick win off a roll up before Sheamus floors Hardy wth a shoulder block. The two block each other's hip tosses before Hardy hits a neckbreaker. Hardy follows up with three leg drops for a near fall before the two counter each other's moves. Sheamus goes for White Noise on the apron, but Hardy fights out and hits the Side Effect on the apron before the commercial break. We come back to Sheamus working over Hardy with a side headlock. Sheamus performs Ten Beats of the Bodhran before hitting a diving shoulder tackle for a near fall. Hardy avoids White Noise and sends Sheamus into the turnbuckle before hitting a tornado DDT. Hardy rams Sheamus head into the turnbuckles before hitting a bulldog. Hardy follows up with a second rope elbow drop for a near fall before calling for the Twist of Fate. Sheamus avoids it and hits a high knee that sends Hardy out of the ring. Outside the ring, Hardy blocks a clothesline off the apron and goes for the Twist of Fate, but Sheamus counters it and hits a rolling senton on the outside. Jeff Hardy checks on Matt, but Sheamus shoves him out of the way and throws Matt back in the ring. Jeff hops up on the apron before Cesaro pulls him down. However, the distraction is enough for Matt to hit the Twist of Fate on Sheamus for the win. Pretty decent match. Afterward, the teams argue, but end up shaking hands.
  • Kurt Angle is talking on the phone before Miz hangs it up. He says Jericho & Ambrose ruining MizTV is unacceptable and asks what Angle is going to do about it. Angle tells Miz to find a partner to face Jericho & Ambrose tonight. Maryse yells at him in French before leaving,
  • Neville & TJ Perkins vs Gentleman Jack Gallagher & Austin Aries-Aries & Gallagher take the fight right to Neville & Perkins before the bell and toss them out of the ring before the commercial break. We come back to Perkins hitting a basement dropkick on Gallagher for a near fall. Neville tags in and slaps on a headlock before Gallagher is able to break free and tags in Aries. Aries runs wild on the heels, hitting a gutbuster, an STO, and a Pendulum Elbow on Perkins before hitting a slingshot senton bomb on Neville. Aries sends Neville out of the ring before hitting a neckbreaker between the ropes on Perkins and a suicide dive onto both of them. Back in the ring, Aries locks in the Last Chancery on Perkins, but Neville breaks up the submission. Gallagher & Neville trade strikes before Gallagher headbutts Neville. Perkins tries to kick Gallagher, but Gallagher catches his foot and spins him right into a forearm by Aries. Aries hits another discus forearm for the win. Fine little match.
  • Braun Strowman vs Kalisto in a Dumpster match-Before the match, Strowman calls the fans trash and stuffing Kalisto in the dumpster will be like stuffing every one of them in there, too. Cut to backstage, where Kurt Angle asks Kalisto, who is sporting a sweet new Great Muta/Darth Maul mask if he still wants to go through with this. He says he was treated like garbage and if doesn't fight for his pride, then he doesn't deserve to fight for anything. Kalisto uses his quickness to kick Strowman, but it has little effect. Strowman tries to throw Kalisto in the dumpster, but he hangs onto the ropes and hits a springboard missile dropkick. Kalisto follows up with a Blockbuster, but Strowman catches him and tosses him across the ring. Strowman steps on Kalisto before trying to throw him into the dumpster. Kalisto manages to turn it around and tries to pull Strowman into the dumpster Chris Benoit-style, but Strowman powers out and throws him across the ring. Strowman splashes Kalisto in the corner before clubbing him down to the mat. Strowman tries to throw Kalisto into the dumpster, but Kalisto hangs onto the ropes. Strowman steps onto the apron and tries to gorilla press Kalisto into the dumpster, but Kalisto escapes it and dropkicks Strowman's legs out from under him, causing him to land feet-first in the dumpster and win the match. I'm pretty sure you have to close the lid to win a dumpster match (like every other container-based match), but alright. After the match, Strowman beats the piss out of Kalisto before tossing him in the dumpster. Strowman pushes the dumpster up to the stage with obvious intentions. Despite officials & referees trying to stop him, Strowman shoves the dumpster off the edge of the stage. After a commercial break, Kalisto gets freed from the dumpster and stretchered off and into an ambulance. Sadly, Strowman doesn't flip this one.
  • Dana Brooke vs Alicia Fox-Right off the bat, Fox hits a Northern Lights suplex for a near fall. Psychology, what's that? Suddenly, Emma comes down to the ring as Dana runs wild, hitting a gut wrench slam, but gets her cartwheel splash blocked by Fox's knees. Dana avoids the scissor kick and hits a Samoan Driver for the win. After the match, Emma hugs Dana and leaves.
  • Charly Caruso interviews Samoa Joe, Karl Anderson, and Luke Gallows. Joe says the strategy is to strike first & annihilate quickly. Anderson says Joe has taught them no ways to kick ass and calls Enzo Amore a butt nugget. Joe says he's going to break Rollins at Payback for what he did to Triple H & Stephanie McMahon.
  • Enzo A-NOPE! As Enzo & Cass make their entrance, Anderson, Gallows, and Joe pop up out of the crowd and attack them. Joe pulls Cass over the barricade and beats him down there as Gallows & Anderson hit the Magic Killer on Enzo outside the ring. Rollins comes down to help, but he gets beaten down until Big Cass comes back. After a commercial break, Kurt Angle comes out and says Enzo can't compete, so he brings out a replacement partner...and it's a major upgrade.
  • Big Cass, Seth Rollins, and Finn Balor vs Samoa Joe, Luke Gallows, and Karl Anderson-The heels attack Rollins & Cass during Balor's entrance before Balor runs down to even the odds. The six men brawl before the match starts with Cass & Gallows. Cass beats down Gallows in the corner before hitting a Stinger Splash and a fallaway slam. Rollins tags in for a diving punch before tagging in Balor for a dropkick. Gallows is able to make a tag to Anderson, who gets a basement dropkick for his troubles. Joe tags in, who hits a corner STO on Balor. Anderson tags in and locks in an armbar. Balor fights to his feet and tries to make a tag, but Anderson pulls him into a backbreaker for a near fall. Gallows tags in and beats down Balor in the corner before applying a key lock. Balor fights out but gets sidewalk slammed by Gallows. Gallows boots Cass off the apron before going for an elbow drop, but Balor dodges it and makes the hot tag to Rollins. Rollins hits a Blockbuster on Anderson followed by a Sling Blade. Cass takes out Gallows with a big boot before Rollins tosses Anderson into Joe outside the ring and hits a suicide dive onto both of them. Balor takes out Joe with a dropkick as Rollins sets up for the Pedigree. However, opts against it and instead hits a wristlock into a high knee (Kenny Omega's V-Trigger) for the win. Fine match, nothing special.
  • Alexa Bliss is out for a promo. She says the women of RAW love to talk about what they want & their dreams. She says she didn't come to talk, she came to win, and she'll become the RAW Women's Champion at Payback. Outcomes Bayley, who says she knows Alexa is making fun of her because she's the kind of girl who talks behind people's backs. Bayley says she's not all talk and works her butt off (her words) to keep this championship. She says she'll stop at nothing to retain at Payback in her hometown. Alexa gets happy that she gets to humiliate Bayley in her hometown before calling Bayley a sheltered child. She mocks her childish persona, asking if she's ever even kissed a boy. Ask Aaron Solow, he probably knows the answer. Sasha Banks comes out, prompting Alexa to mock Bayley for always needing Sasha to have her back, asking if she puts little notes in when she packs her lunch and if she drives her to school. Sasha says  Bayley will shut her up & show her up at Payback. Sasha Banks is turning on Bayley so hard if it isn't obvious already. She adds that she's going to shut up Alexa right now, but Alexa says she's going to Kurt Angle right now to have the match canceled because Sasha is unhinged and she doesn't feel safe around her. Sasha responds by clocking her. Alexa Bliss killed it in this segment. She's light years ahead of everyone else in the character department.
  • Alexa Bliss vs Sasha Banks-Bayley has taken a seat at commentary for this match. Sasha takes the fight right to Alexa, but Alexa takes control and stomps on Sasha for a near fall. Sasha dodges a double knee drop and runs wild on Alexa before hitting the hanging double knee drop for a near fall. Sasha goes for the Bank Statement, but Alexa quickly gets to the ropes. Alexa rolls out of the ring and opts to take the countout loss. Bayley leaves the commentary table and tries to take Alexa back to the ring, but Alexa gets away from her. However, Alexa runs back when Bayley turns her back and hits her from behind. Sasha chases Alexa off before checking on Bayley.
  • In the locker room, Dean Ambrose asks Jericho to put the past behind them. He also asks Jericho to take him off the List of Jericho. Jericho says nobody gets taken off the list, and Ambrose still owes him $15,000 for destroying his jacket and powerbombing him into a pile of thumbtacks in the Ambrose Asylum. Ambrose apologizes, even though it was really cool (that was a lie and reminds him of the new jacket. Jericho agrees and takes Ambrose off the list, only to put him back on when Ambrose walks away.
  • Charly Caruso tries to interview Heath Slater & Curtis Axel before the Miz & Maryse show up. He asks them both to be his tag partner tonight. Slater says he's already got a tag partner and Miz calls Axel a moron. Maryse says neither of them will make it in Hollywood, so Rhyno offers her a cracker. Maryse slaps the crackers out of Rhyno's hand. His reaction is hilarious.
After that, a production guy hands Miz a note
  • Apollo Crews vs Curt Hawkins-Apollo Crews comes out to complete silence. I really just could not bother with this match. Crews wins with a spin-out powerbomb. After the match, Titus O'Neil comes out, raises Crews' hand and takes a selfie with him as Crews looks confused.
  • Backstage, Kurt Angle & Austin Aries are talking about "an interesting idea" that Angle says he'll get back to Aries on. Aries gives him a banana before walking off. The Miz & Maryse appear before Angle asks if he found a tag team partner. Miz says he did as the Drifter drifts by playing his guitar. Don't worry it's not the Drifter. Angle tells him Miz is going to need some luck tonight. Miz says he doesn't need it.
  • Dean Ambrose & Chris Jericho vs The Miz & ? with Maryse-Before the match, the Miz says Ambrose & Jericho are in deep trouble. He brings out his partner...nobody. Miz tries again...nobody. Miz tries to walk out on the match, but Angle comes out and says Miz has to compete tonight, making this a handicap match. Jericho & Ambrose double team the Miz & control the match until Miz uses Maryse as a human shield on the outside, allowing him to hit a big boot on Ambrose. Miz throws Ambrose around ringside before rolling him back in the ring for a near fall. Miz controls the match until Ambrose hits the Lunatic Lariat. Jericho gets the hot tag and runs wild on Miz, hitting a diving double axe handle, a bulldog, and the Lionsault. Miz is able to block the Codebreaker, but catches a dropkick and rolls out of the ring. Miz decides to walk out of the match, but Ambrose catches up to him and brawls with him on the stage. Ambrose tears apart the announce table and goes for Dirty Deeds on the table, only for the lights to go out and Bray Wyatt shows up. Wyatt hits Sister Abigail on Ambrose into the minitron. Jericho runs over to help, but he gets double teamed by Miz & Wyatt. Back in the ring, Jericho hits a Codebreaker on Miz but gets a Sister Abigail from Wyatt. Wyatt poses over Jericho before Miz tries to celebrate with him. This earns Miz a Sister Abigail of his own.

Worst in the World: The Last Rites Match-TNA Destination X 2007

(Special thanks to an anonymous user for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) An often discussed aspect of professional wrestling is the backstage politicking of Hulk Hogan. Throughout his career as a major attraction in wrestling, Hogan's philosophy has always been to protect Hulk Hogan...OK, sometimes he'd help Ed Leslie, but most of the time it was to protect Hulk Hogan. Because of that philosophy and Hogan's influence as a top guy, there have been multiple instances where a company's booking and other wrestlers have suffered as a result. Would having Mr. Perfect win the 1990 Royal Rumble made sense and could have elevated a rising star and potentially created a new main event player? Yes, but that would require Hogan to not win, and that doesn't work for Hogan, so he wins the Rumble even though he doesn't need elevating. Would booking Randy Orton to beat Hogan at SummerSlam 20

Worst in the World: The Gimmick Battle Royal-WrestleMania X-Seven

(Special thanks to Frost for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) WrestleMania X-Seven. Heavily considered the not just the best WrestleMania, but the greatest wrestling show of all time, WrestleMania X-Seven took place during the hottest period in the WWF's history, and features just about every one of the hottest acts in wrestling at the time. An undercard featuring the likes of Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, William Regal, Kane, and the Big Show. One of the biggest female stars in the history of wrestling in Chyna. A killer TLC match between the Dudley Boyz, the Hardy Boyz, and Edge & Christian. A wild brawl between The Undertaker and Triple H. A massive main event between Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock. Hell, even the father vs son Street Fight between Vince & Shane McMahon. It's a star-studded affair. However, there's one match that sticks out like

Worst in the World: D-Generation X vs Brothers of Destruction-Crown Jewel

This match didn't need to happen. After Triple H and the Undertaker had one of the most brutally bad matches of 2018 at Super Show-Down not even a month earlier, nobody wanted to see them try to wrestle again. Also, nobody wanted to see Shawn Michaels come out of retirement after his fantastic sendoff in 2010, especially for a match like this. But here we are, Triple H & Shawn Michaels facing The Undertaker & Kane in 2018. The combined ages of these four at the time is 206. That's a number you'd expect to see from a match at Heroes of Wrestling. And anyone can come up with their own reason as to why this match is happening, but that would just be ignoring the actual reason. For those of you who don't know, Crown Jewel was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. That might not seem like important information, but you can't really discuss this match without mentioning it. Despite the numerous reasons that running shows in Saudi Arabia is morally wrong (their abuse

Worst in the World: Nia Jax's Worst Matches

Click the link here to vote in the poll and help decide the next edition of the Worst in the World. Nia Jax's first run with the WWE can really only be described as hard to watch. Sure, she had a few stand-out matches, most notably (and surprisingly) her match with Ronda Rousey at Money in the Bank, and an underrated gem with Bayley at NXT TakeOver: London, but those were always outshined by her most infamous matches and moments. She's since returned to WWE and, for the most part, seems to have improved a bit, but the reputation she got from her initial run is gonna be hard to shake off. This week, I'll be looking at some of Jax's worst matches. These include just flat-out bad matches, and matches that have become infamous examples of her reckless in-ring work. Match #1: vs Charlotte Flair-April 10th, 2017 Raw The first match we'll be looking at is from the April 10, 2017 episode of Monday Night Raw, when Nia took on Charlotte Flair. The two had been on the losing e

Worst in the World: Carmella vs Asuka: How to Destroy an Aura

Throughout the entire history of the WWE, we've never seen, and probably will never see again, a woman booked as strong as Asuka was to start her run. Coming into WWE in 2015 with over a decade of experience wrestling in her native Japan as Kana, Asuka was immediately treated like a huge deal. Hell, even from the first time we saw her on a WWE broadcast, she was seated in the crowd of NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn next to two Hall of Famers in Ric Flair & Sgt. Slaughter. Officially debuting in October 2015, Asuka would go her entire NXT career, nearly two full years, without being pinned or submitted. She was booked so strong, in fact, that instead of dropping the NXT Women's Championship in what would be her last match in NXT at the time to Ember Moon (even after sustaining an injury), an act that is almost always the case for champions leaving NXT for the main roster, Asuka retained and later vacated the title, keeping her streak intact. For a company that is more than willing t
