My Thoughts on RAW (5/29/17): Just Top Guy Things

  • We kick off RAW with MizTV. Miz says him & Maryse are feeling good because this Sunday, he gets his hands on Dean Ambrose. He calls Ambrose a lying, backstabbing, cheating thief who stole his Intercontinental Championship. He reiterates that if Ambrose gets disqualified at Extreme Rules, then Miz wins the title before bringing out his guests tonight, Sheamus & Cesaro. Miz says they deserve to be champions more than anyone else...except for him. He says the Hardys stole their spotlight before Sheamus says the fans turned their backs on them when the Hardys came back. He calls the Hardys a new toy, which he & Cesaro will break and win the RAW Tag Team Championships. Miz says that all three of them are victimized by the fans before saying that he'll revitalize the Intercontinental Championship when he wins it back at Extreme Rules. He is interrupted by Dean Ambrose, who tells them all to shut their mouths. Miz points out that there three of them and one of him, but Ambrose brings out the Hardy Boyz. Miz ducks out of the ring as the babyfaces boot Sheamus & Cesaro from the ring.
  • The Miz, Sheamus, and Cesaro vs Dean Ambrose & The Hardy Boyz-We come back from commercial break to Hardys hitting a fist drop/leg drop combo on Cesaro for a near fall. Matt follows up with a double axe handle, but Cesaro is able to take control with an uppercut. Miz tags in to stomp away at Hardy before Sheamus tags in to beat down Hardy in the corner. The heels control the match, during which Sheamus starts the Ten Beats of the Bodhran, only to stop when the fans count along, tagging in Cesaro to clothesline Hardy back into the ring. Hardy creates space by hitting a back body drop and tags in Ambrose. Ambrose runs through the heels and almost hits Dirty Deeds on Cesaro, but Cesaro blocks it and tags in Sheamus. This doesn't halt Ambrose, who hits a swinging neckbreaker on Sheamus. Ambrose goes to the top rope, but a distraction from Miz allows Sheamus to hit a step up knee to knock Ambrose to the outside before the commercial break. We come back to Miz kicking away at Ambrose Daniel Bryan-style. Ambrose counters the last one and gets a near fall off a roll up, but Miz comes back with a big boot for a near fall. Miz tags in Cesaro, but Ambrose dodges a running uppercut in the corner, sending Cesaro over the top rope to the outside. Ambrose tries to make the tag, but Miz yanks the Hardys off the apron. Sheamus tags in for White Noise for a near fall. Sheamus goes to the top rope for another White Noise, but Ambrose fights out and hits a diving elbow. Cesaro tags in to stop the hot tag, but Ambrose quickly hits the Lunatic Lariat and tags in Jeff Hardy. Hardy runs through the Miz, hitting an inverted atomic drop, a double leg drop, and a basement dropkick. Hardy goes for the Twist of Fate, but Miz blocks it, pushing Jeff into a tag from Matt. The Hardys hit Poetry in Motion before Matt hits the Side Effect, but Sheamus breaks up the fall. Jeff takes out Sheamus with a Twist of Fate before Cesaro catches him with a running uppercut. Ambrose takes out Cesaro with Dirty Deeds before taking out Sheamus with a suicide dive. Miz then proceeds to sh*t the bed, selling a kick way to early before rotating for the Twist of Fate for a swinging neckbreaker. Jeff hits the Swanton Bomb for the three and the win. Pretty enjoyable match until the end, which was a bit sloppy.
  • We cut to the commentators, where Corey Graves is looking at his phone before blowing off a question from Michael Cole and walking to the back. After a commercial break, we see Kurt Angle reading Graves' phone. Angle says something about "being a disgrace & an embarrassment to the WWE" and something that will "besmirch his status as an Olympic gold medalist." Angle asks Graves how he got the message, but Graves just says people tell him things. Angle says that if whatever was on the phone is true, it would ruin him.
  • Elias Samson vs Zac Evans-You could hear a pin drop during this match. Actually, it was worse than that, you could hear a feather drop. Anyway, the Drifter squashes Evans, or as the Internet Wrestling Database calls him, "Unknown Male Wrestler."
Samson finishes Evans off with a rolling cutter for the three.
  • Back to the commentators, where Corey Graves returns to the table.
  • Backstage, we see Samoa Joe watching the WWE 24 special on Finn Balor. Charly Caruso comes over and asks him how he prepares for a triple threat match. He says he's watching the special to analyze how to better hurt Balor. He says Balor has a heart that can't be matched, but his body can be broken, and he's broken it before. He shifts focus to Bray Wyatt, only for Wyatt to appear on the little screen.
All I see, know. He says he's the devil Joe doesn't know, but he knows Joe. He says he sees the future, where the beast runs wild over civilization. He says he is only one who can defeat the beast and he will not turn away from this fight. He says Joe, Balor, and the others will give into their fears and run.
  • Finn Balor vs Samoa Joe vs Bray Wyatt-Bray Wyatt quickly rolls out of the ring, leaving Balor & Joe to duke it out. The two go back and forth before Balor throws Joe out of the ring, where Joe throws Wyatt into the ring. Balor & Wyatt go back and forth before Joe re-enters the match. Joe throws some knees at Balor before tossing him out of the ring. Joe turns his attention to Wyatt, but Balor re-enters the ring. Balor beats Joe down to the corner, only for Wyatt to toss him out of the ring. Balor re-enters and the three go back and forth before Wyatt hits a crossbody block on Balor. Wyatt sets up Balor on the top rope, but Joe tosses Wyatt out of the ring. Joe goes for a superplex on Balor, only for Wyatt to run back in for the Tower of Doom. Wyatt goes for Sister Abigail on Balor, but Joe runs in the locks in the Coquina Clutch on Wyatt. Balor breaks it up with a big boot before kicking both men out of the ring. Balor follows with the somersault plancha before the commercial break. We come back to Joe striking away at Balor in the corner. Joe & Wyatt double team Balor, cutting off all of Balor's comeback attempts. Wyatt eventually turns on Joe, catching him with a clothesline while holding Balor down for a senton. Wyatt goes for an Uranage, but Balor counters it and hits a Pele Kick. Balor runs through Wyatt and hits a dropkick, only to get clotheslined by Joe, who follows up with a corner splash and enziguri on Wyatt. Balor sends both men out of the ring before catching Joe with a soccer kick off the apron and dropkicks Wyatt into the barricade. Balor follows up with another one on Joe. Back in the ring, Balor chops Joe in the corners until Joe hits a corner STO. Joe locks in the Coquina Clutch, but Balor walks up the corner and flips over before hitting a double stomp. Wyatt sneaks in and goes for Sister Abigail, but Balor avoids, takes down Wyatt and hits a double stomp. Balor goes for the Sling Blade on Joe, but Joe counters it and hits a belly-to-belly suplex. Wyatt manages to hit Sister Abigail on Joe, only for Balor to come in and hit a Sling Blade on Wyatt. Balor follows up by dropkicking Wyatt into the corner before connecting with the Coup de Grace. However, Joe runs in, tosses Balor through the turnbuckle and into the ring post before covering Wyatt for the win. Good match.
  • Mike Rome interviews Seth Rollins. He says he's more familiar with Roman Reigns than anyone else on the roster before talking about their history. He says they go to war every time they step in a ring together before saying that he owns Reigns. He says tonight, he sends a message that at Extreme Rules, he'll change the course of history.
  • Rich Swann with Sasha Banks vs Noam Dar with Alicia Fox-Dar goes after Swann before the bell. The two go back and forth before Dar uppercuts Swann. Dar works over Swann's arm until Swann fights back, hits a spin kick and a 450 leg drop for a near fall. Swann goes to the top rope, but Fox hops up on the apron to distract him. Sasha takes care of her, allowing Swann to hit the Phoenix Splash for the three and the win. After the match, Swann & Sasha dance.
  • Charly Caruso interviews The Revival. Scott Dawson says that once Dash Wilder's jaw heals and they'll be back in action. Charly brings up that Enzo Amore was attacked last week and that Dash & Dawson were seen in the background during an interview with Sasha Banks. Dawson says they were at RAW, they were just doing top guy things. They say they wouldn't waste their time with Enzo Amore before leaving. Corey Graves that Big Cass has definitely seen that footage, but doesn't elaborate when Booker T asks him to. After showing a clip from 205 Live, Big Cass comes out and confronts Graves, telling him he better not be insinuating that he attacked Enzo. Graves clarifies that he assumes Cass is investigating the attack himself, and Cass says he is before shaking Graves' hand. Big Cass is totally going to turn on Enzo Amore.
  • Kalisto vs Titus O'Neil with Apollo Crews-Before the match, we get a picture-in-picture promo where Titus says in this match, he's going to show Crews his athleticism & charisma, the latter of which Titus says Crews needs. I mean...he's not wrong. Kalisto starts off with a handspring kick before dropkicking Titus in the corner. Kalisto quickly goes for the Salida del Sol, but Titus blocks it. Kalisto goes for a body scissor victory roll, but Titus sits down on it and pins Kalisto while pulling the tights.
  • And now...Bayley, This is Your Life...God help us all. Now, WWE has tried to bust out another "This Is Your Life" every 5-7 years for some reason, and it never works. This isn't any better. Alexa Bliss comes down to the ring and calls Bayley a human sock puppet. She doubts that Bayley could even bring herself to use a kendo stick, which is hanging off a pole in the ring. Someone's never seen the Edge & Christian Show That Totally Reeks of Awesomeness. The crowd is already done with this, giving it an instant "What" chant. Alexa holds up a doll and says Bayley still plays with dolls. She holds up a trophy that Bayley won for sportsmanship. She goes over to Bayley's yearbook, where she was voted "Most Likely to Apologize." And if you aren't already done with this segment, we have people from Bayley's past!...please don't leave, I need the ad revenue. Alexa goes over to Bayley's old teacher Mrs. Flapper, who says Bayley had to go to school with her dad or else she would cry. Then we get Bayley's old friend Tracy, so says Bayley was a pushover who would do people's homework and take the blame for things, and never wanted to hang out with her because, and she actually says this, Bayley wanted to stay home and watch wrestling. You understand that right. All of these are supposed to be embarrassing. The fact that she plays with dolls, that she sucks at sports, that she cried without her dad. Also, it's supposed to be embarrassing that she LIKES WRESTLING. This is a PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING COMPANY using their PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING SHOW telling us that PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING is lame. I'm insulted. I feel insulted. And finally, we get Bayley's ex-boyfriend Phil. He says Bayley always brought her dad on dates with him and that he almost kissed her dad on accident. The crowd is chanting "DELETE" at this moment. Phil then says he only dated Bayley to try to get close to Tracy. Tracy says she always liked Phil too, and they kiss. What is happening? Booker T says this is hard to watch. I can't disagree. Bayley finally comes out to end this disgrace of a segment. Bayley attacks Alexa and hits a back suplex before pointing at the kendo stick on the pole. However, when Bayley goes to get it, Alexa yanks her down onto the ropes. Alexa then grabs a kendo stick from under the table in the ring and hits Bayley with it. God...horrible. That was one of the worst segments of wrestling I've ever seen. I feel so bad for Bliss especially. You can tell she's trying to get this to work and she has a couple of good lines, but overall this was a pile of sh*t.
  • Backstage, Enzo Amore got beat up again. Big Cass says it was the Revival, but Angle says he saw the Revival leaving the building. Cass doesn't believe him and says it's the Revival and that he's not leaving Enzo's side again. Big Cass is definitely turning on Enzo Amore.
  • Austin Aries & Gentleman Jack Gallagher vs TJ Perkins & Neville-Oh look, a totally original match that we've never seen before. And certainly a match that we haven't seen multiple times over the last few months. Aries & Perkins start with Perkins dabbing in Aries' face. Aries kicks him in the gut before tagging in Gallagher for a headbutt. Gallagher & Perkins trade holds before Gallagher hits a body scissor takeover. Perkins manages to get Gallagher to his corner and tags in Neville, only for Gallagher to hit a dropkick. Gallagher follows up with a snapmare takeover before tagging in Aries. Neville quickly leaves the ring before the commercial break. We come back to Neville ramming Gallagher into the corner. The heels control the match until Gallagher connects with a headbutt on Perkins. Aries gets the hot tag and runs through Neville, striking away before dodging an enziguri and hitting a shin breaker followed by an overhead suplex for a near fall. Aries goes for the Last Chancery, but Neville avoids. Aries goes for the Discus Fivearm, but Perkins stops him. Gallagher takes care of Perkins before Aries back body drops Neville onto Perkins & Gallagher and hits a suicide dive onto Neville & Perkins. Back in the ring, Aries goes for a missile dropkick, but Neville dodges it. Neville goes for the Phoenix Splash, but Aries avoids that and locks in the Last Chancery for the submission win. Fine match, nothing special.
  • Mike Rome interviews Roman Reigns. He says he doesn't care about his & Seth Rollins history and that nobody owns him. He says tonight he proves why he's the big dog and why it's his yard.
  • Charly Caruso tries to interview Neville after his loss, but he just storms off.
  • It's a Shattered Dreams production. Goldust quotes Psycho before saying it takes a lot to reach the breaking point. He says he's back in the director's chair and that R-Truth wouldn't let him shine and held him back. He says Truth wanted the spotlight to himself and he will put an end to their story and the ending won't be happy or sad, it will be golden. Goldust says the golden age is back, only for the screen to cut to "A Truth Be Told" production. Truth cuts a promo the same way Goldust did, quoting Pulp Fiction before saying that he took inspiration from movie characters like Shaft & Jules Winnfield, and just like them, he's a bad mother-SHUT YOUR MOUTH...that's what he said. He says he's going to get Goldust and he'll strike him down with great vengeance and furious anger.
  • Seth Rollins vs Roman Reigns-The two go back and forth to start before Rollins hits a standing moonsault for a near fall. Reigns rolls out of the ring, re-entering for more back and forth action. Rollins avoids a Samoan Drop, but Reigns catches him with a straight right. Rollins rolls out of the ring, where Reigns follows him out and tosses him into the barricade.before drive by dropkicking Rollins ribs first into the ring post. Back in the ring, Rollins goes for the spear, but Rollins gets a knee up to block it. Rollins follows up by clotheslining Reigns out of the ring and taking him out with a plancha before the commercial break. We come back to Reigns throwing Rollins into the barricade. Back in the ring, Reigns throws Rollins into the corner hard before clotheslining him in the corner. Reigns hits a big boot before calling for the Superman Punch. Rollins counters it with a superkick before hitting a corner STO and a Sling Blade. Rollins follows up with two forearms in the corner, but his ribs give out when he tries for a suplex. Rollins dropkicks Reigns out of the ring before hitting a suicide dive. Back in the ring, Rollins goes for the springboard high knee, but Reigns catches him with a Superman Punch for a near fall. Reigns goes for the spear again, but Rollins counters it with a roll up. Reigns kicks out, only for Rollins to hit a superkick for a near fall. Rollins goes to the top rope, but Reigns meets him there. Reigns goes for a Samoan Drop off the top rope, but Rollins avoids it and hits the Buckle Bomb, only for Reigns to come right out of it with a Superman Punch, leaving both men down. Rollins & Reigns both roll out of the ring, where Reigns goes for a spear on the outside, only for Rollins to side-step it and toss Reigns into the steel steps. Back in the ring, Rollins hits a Blockbuster for a near fall before hitting a frog splash for another near fall. Rollins tries for a Phoenix Splash, but Reigns dodges it. Rollins blocks another spear with his knee and hits an enziguri before going for the Rain-Trigger (until it gets a new name, that's what I'm calling it.) However, Reigns avoids the knee on the pull back and rebounds with a spear for the win. Really good match, worthy of being the main event of the show.

Worst in the World: The Last Rites Match-TNA Destination X 2007

(Special thanks to an anonymous user for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) An often discussed aspect of professional wrestling is the backstage politicking of Hulk Hogan. Throughout his career as a major attraction in wrestling, Hogan's philosophy has always been to protect Hulk Hogan...OK, sometimes he'd help Ed Leslie, but most of the time it was to protect Hulk Hogan. Because of that philosophy and Hogan's influence as a top guy, there have been multiple instances where a company's booking and other wrestlers have suffered as a result. Would having Mr. Perfect win the 1990 Royal Rumble made sense and could have elevated a rising star and potentially created a new main event player? Yes, but that would require Hogan to not win, and that doesn't work for Hogan, so he wins the Rumble even though he doesn't need elevating. Would booking Randy Orton to beat Hogan at SummerSlam 20

Worst in the World: The Gimmick Battle Royal-WrestleMania X-Seven

(Special thanks to Frost for suggesting this match. If you'd like to see a match covered on the Worst in the World, leave a comment down below.) WrestleMania X-Seven. Heavily considered the not just the best WrestleMania, but the greatest wrestling show of all time, WrestleMania X-Seven took place during the hottest period in the WWF's history, and features just about every one of the hottest acts in wrestling at the time. An undercard featuring the likes of Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, William Regal, Kane, and the Big Show. One of the biggest female stars in the history of wrestling in Chyna. A killer TLC match between the Dudley Boyz, the Hardy Boyz, and Edge & Christian. A wild brawl between The Undertaker and Triple H. A massive main event between Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock. Hell, even the father vs son Street Fight between Vince & Shane McMahon. It's a star-studded affair. However, there's one match that sticks out like

Worst in the World: D-Generation X vs Brothers of Destruction-Crown Jewel

This match didn't need to happen. After Triple H and the Undertaker had one of the most brutally bad matches of 2018 at Super Show-Down not even a month earlier, nobody wanted to see them try to wrestle again. Also, nobody wanted to see Shawn Michaels come out of retirement after his fantastic sendoff in 2010, especially for a match like this. But here we are, Triple H & Shawn Michaels facing The Undertaker & Kane in 2018. The combined ages of these four at the time is 206. That's a number you'd expect to see from a match at Heroes of Wrestling. And anyone can come up with their own reason as to why this match is happening, but that would just be ignoring the actual reason. For those of you who don't know, Crown Jewel was held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. That might not seem like important information, but you can't really discuss this match without mentioning it. Despite the numerous reasons that running shows in Saudi Arabia is morally wrong (their abuse

Worst in the World: Nia Jax's Worst Matches

Click the link here to vote in the poll and help decide the next edition of the Worst in the World. Nia Jax's first run with the WWE can really only be described as hard to watch. Sure, she had a few stand-out matches, most notably (and surprisingly) her match with Ronda Rousey at Money in the Bank, and an underrated gem with Bayley at NXT TakeOver: London, but those were always outshined by her most infamous matches and moments. She's since returned to WWE and, for the most part, seems to have improved a bit, but the reputation she got from her initial run is gonna be hard to shake off. This week, I'll be looking at some of Jax's worst matches. These include just flat-out bad matches, and matches that have become infamous examples of her reckless in-ring work. Match #1: vs Charlotte Flair-April 10th, 2017 Raw The first match we'll be looking at is from the April 10, 2017 episode of Monday Night Raw, when Nia took on Charlotte Flair. The two had been on the losing e

Worst in the World: Carmella vs Asuka: How to Destroy an Aura

Throughout the entire history of the WWE, we've never seen, and probably will never see again, a woman booked as strong as Asuka was to start her run. Coming into WWE in 2015 with over a decade of experience wrestling in her native Japan as Kana, Asuka was immediately treated like a huge deal. Hell, even from the first time we saw her on a WWE broadcast, she was seated in the crowd of NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn next to two Hall of Famers in Ric Flair & Sgt. Slaughter. Officially debuting in October 2015, Asuka would go her entire NXT career, nearly two full years, without being pinned or submitted. She was booked so strong, in fact, that instead of dropping the NXT Women's Championship in what would be her last match in NXT at the time to Ember Moon (even after sustaining an injury), an act that is almost always the case for champions leaving NXT for the main roster, Asuka retained and later vacated the title, keeping her streak intact. For a company that is more than willing t
