Well...it's been a while. I've been really busy every Tuesday for like the past month, so I haven't been able to write a review for SmackDown for a long time now. But finally, I'm not busy and can get back to work. Let's get into my thoughts on SmackDown's special 900th episode.
- We kick off the show with Shane McMahon & Daniel Bryan. They welcome everyone to the 900th episode of SmackDown before hyping up the returns of Edge & The Undertaker. Shane then announces that the show will kick off with Dolph Ziggler vs The Miz for the Intercontinental Championship.
- Just a quick side note, why are there four commentators now? Seriously, three is already too many, especially when two of those commentators aren't good at their jobs. Also, Tom Phillips looks so awkward sitting at the corner of the announce table like he just pulled up a random chair and sat there. How about they just get rid of the one who contributes nothing to the show and replace him with Tom. And we all know which one I'm talking about...
- Dolph Ziggler (c) vs The Miz for the Intercontinental Championship-The two go back and forth to start, countering everything they throw at each other with a few near falls off of rollups before the commercial break. We come back to Ziggler countering a double ax handle from Miz with a dropkick. Miz hits a neckbreaker for a near fall before working over Ziggler's legs. Ziggler dodges the Awesome Clothesline in the corner before Ziggler runs wild, blocking a neckbreaker from the Miz and hitting one of his own. Ziggler reverses a powerbomb with a rollup for a near fall before Miz gets a rollup with his feet on the ropes. The referee catches him and he & Miz argue before Ziggler hits a Famouser for a near fall before another commercial break. We come back to Ziggler getting a near fall off a rollup. Miz blocks a Zig Zag before mocking Daniel Bryan with the Yes Kicks. Ziggler avoids the last one but eats a running knee strike followed by a Skull Crushing Finale for a near fall. The two trade reversals before Ziggler hits a Zig Zag and makes the pin, but Miz gets his foot on the rope. Ziggler calls for the superkick, but the Spirit Squad interferes, allowing Miz to lock in the Figure-Four, but Ziggler gets to the ropes. Ziggler gets a rollup near the ropes, but Maryse pushes the cradle over, allowing Miz to get the pin, the win, and the championship. New Intercontinental Champion the Miz! Good match. They've had better, but this was fine.
- Backstage, Alexa Bliss argues with Daniel Bryan that she had her foot on the ropes when she lost to Becky Lynch last week. Bryan tells her the referee's decision is final before Natalya comes in with her whistle. Natalya...straight up...quotes CHUMBAWAMBA! She tells Alexa that when you get knocked down, you get back up again because nothings gonna ever keep you down. Alexa calls out Natalya for quoting Chumbawamba and leaves. Natalya says she doesn't know what Chumbawamba is. She's my favorite now.
- Kalisto vs Oney Lorcan-Yeah, NXT's Oney Lorcan, aka Biff Busick, aka the Man with the dumbest wrestling name I've ever seen is making his main roster debut. I guess this is what he meant by "going back to his roots" on NXT a few months ago. Lorcan charges Kalisto in the corner with an uppercut, hits another uppercut to Kalisto's back, and suplexes him for a near fall. Kalisto comes back but botches a springboard. This is what happens when you hang out with Sin Cara for too long. before eventually hitting a Salida del Sol. Poor Kalisto.
- Backstage, the tag teams competing for Team SmackDown get a pep talk from a king. King Booker! He is interrupted by Breezango dressed as police officers. What did I miss in the last month? They give people tickets before giving Booker a puffy shirt. Booker tells him that you have to dress like a champion and not a pirate before blowing his nose into the shirt. Breezango leaves as the other teams chant Booker's name.
- Nikki Bella vs Carmella-The two have a long lock up before Carmella shoves Nikki. Nikki chases Carmella around ringside before hitting a single knee facebreaker, a suplex, and a dropkick. Carmella blocks a baseball slide before and hits a draping neckbreaker off the apron before slamming Nikki's head into the ground. Carmella continues to target Nikki's neck before getting a near fall off a superkick. Carmella locks in a sleeper hold, but Nikki escapes, only to collapse. Carmella continues to beat down on Nikki until Nikki avoids a Bronco Buster. Out of the crowd comes Charlotte from RAW. She takes a seat in the crowd before the commercial break. We come back to Nikki Bella hitting an Alabama Slam. She follows up with a corner enziguri that sends Carmella out of the ring. At ringside, Nikki hits Charlotte with a forearm and brings her into the ring. The two fight before the rest of team RAW run in and attack Nikki. Carmella tries to help, but she gets easily overtaken. The rest of team SmackDown comes down and the teams brawl. Nia Jax dominates most of team SmackDown until Becky Lynch dodges a spear that sends her through the time keeper's area. Naomi hits a dive to the outside to take out the rest of team RAW.
- The Usos, American Alpha, The Hype Bros, and Breezango vs The Ascension, The Vaudevillians, The Headbangers, and The Spirit Squad-Team SmackDown obviously runs through every member of the other team until Viktor turns the tides against Zack Ryder (of course). Gable eventually gets the hot tag, blocks a Stage Dive from the Headbangers and hits a top rope superplex on Mosh. Everyone gets their spots in before American Alpha hits Grand Amplitude for the win.
- It's time for the Cutting Edge! I love how they only bring out Tony Chimel to introduce Edge. Edge says that he helped make this show and he has a lot of interest in the 5-on-5 RAW vs SmackDown match. He brings out the members of Team SmackDown before shaking James Ellsworth's hand. Ellsworth asks to do a five-second pose, but AJ Styles interrupts them, saying that the five-second pose is stupid. Styles tells Edge to ask the only member of SmackDown that matters a question, so Edge asks Randy Orton a question. He asks him what's going on with him & the Wyatt Family, but Bray says that the Randy Orton he knew is dead, and he much more dangerous know. Shane McMahon says that everyone on the team has to get on the same page for Survivor Series. Styles says Ambrose caused the brawl on RAW last night and Ambrose says that after Survivor Series he'll take his title back at TLC. Styles teases whether or not he'll play ball at Survivor Series before...GONG! THE UNDERTAKER COMES OUT! Taker stares down Shane before saying that he's the best man to be the commissioner of SmackDown. He says that WrestleMania will no longer define who he is and that he's back. He also says that he was born at Survivor Series and that SmackDown has always been his home. He also says that they should not fear failure, but they will if they fear him. He says that RAW better rest...in...peace...to close the show.
